Oxford Street became popular because of the night market - street vendors selling food for those enjoying the city at night. Some stores have been added and major businesses are moving there but it is just a night market. Now, a lot of nightclubs and restaurants are within the vicinity but not on Oxford Street. Think of it like Liverpool Street in the UK or 125th Street Harlem. Famous but not for it's beauty.

What a beautiful street. Looks like streets in Europe and North America. Hope Cameroon can learn from Accra to help in the embellissement of some of its cities.
I think Ghana is a victim of its own positive advocacy. It’s so gentrified out there. But there are no matching infrastructure to back it up. There is no way an Oxford street shouldn’t be dualised with walk ways and green area. Africa love🌍
It’s a reflection of poverty of ideas of our leaders. Oxford street needs a boulevard and that’s it. I ll prioritize this(and many narrow Accra streets) to a pokuase interchange, my opinion. Africa Love🌍
I hope from today, Zimbabweans, after watching this video will learn to appreciate and be proud of cities. Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, Kwekwe, Vic Falls are really developed cities, clean and beautiful. We should learn to appreciate what we have, just like how Ghanaians are proud of their cities.
Oxford Street is famous for its night market, nightclubs and street vendors. The comparison to Harare should be made with Airport City, Cantonments, Ridge, East Legon, Ringway Estates.
@@NanaKNOwusu Thanks for the educating me there. So the places you highlighted are they like surbubs within the city of Accra or there are cities/towns on their own? If these are surbubs, which surbubs in Harare would be the equivalent to the Ones you mentioned. My point to Zimbabweans was that if you hear them bashing their cities, you would think that maybe the cities have been damaged and now look like war destroyed Syrian cities like Allepo. A lot of people in Africa actually think that Zim cities are are probably the worst in Africa when in actual fact there are amongst the best on the content, and this is because Zimbabweans themselves do lead in the bashing and coupled with negative publicity from some news channels, citizens of the world have made to believe that Zimbabwe is in the stone ages

Honestly opinion, if I was to live in Ghana it would be Tema,(a bit boring but silent and cool, amazing roads and stable electricity), Kenya would be naivasha(Nakuru), water, hippos, hiking, AT what are your thoughts?
One thing that i have seen is that whilst there is new buildings coming up with modern glass facades, there has not been investments on that road to accomodate these new buildings. A 10 storey building will obviously attract tenants that do business with a lot of clients. The tenants will need parking, their clients will also need parking, so for me that street is way too narrow and does not have enough parking bays to match how the kind of traffic it attracts. And once you have 5 buildings for instances that are 5 storeys or more in that street, you will get congestion. I hope in future, the city will relocate those vending stores/tents/tuckshops and some of the older buildings on the other side of the road and then expand the road to accomodate 1. Side walks for pedestrians 2. parking bays 3. filter lanes for traffic turning to the left (to avoid disrupting flow of traffic going straight ahead). Serious sacrifices must made and some building must be let go. Accra has such a big reputation which must be matched by world class city layout (order, organization). Another thing to consider aswell, is the size of the buildings on the streets, the nature of businesses to operate there. From the description of the street, this is like the WALL STREET of Accra, the financial district of the city. Not every kind of business an operate in that street. Serious zoning by laws must put in place and enforced.
@@erolireuben1661 We are talking about what we see. They are multi storey buildings in those 10 minutes of video and across the road there are vending stores. I'm not putting down that street, but rather pointing what it is I think can improve the functionality and appeal of that street in general. If you choose to view my comments as "Africans got issues" its entirely up to you. Is it not a fact that expanding the road to my make it 2 lanes either way, adding filter lanes and parking bays, would improve traffic flow? Is this the suggestion you are defining as "African got issues"? If it is, well good luck for you for not having "African got issues". And here is wishing Ghana all the success in future

@@saheedaileru6850 I did major in urban planning at collage and part I take particular interest in urban planning in particular. I have some case studies that I have followed of urban renewal projects around the world. I applaud a lot of projects on our continent and some of them just a little bit extra to make them at par with other projects elsewhere in the world. For me Urban renewal is now a passion. Africa has the benefit of being able to do brand new projects "the correct way" because we are not as heavily burdened with old, expensive infrastructure from centuries past (like European cities), we have the benefit of implementing new trends NOW. Look at Dubai, everything they have done is NEW, TRENDY because they are coming from a point not having anything (ZERO point to nearly ZERO), same as us hear in Africa. Lets use those cities as Case studies and do "Future proof cities" that are designed with projected growths of 50 years into the future. I have noticed we do the NOW in a lot of our projects

@@tvs9978 You missed my point and the question after. My point was if I had my way I could have named ( the vlogger introduced Oxford Street as the busiest and most famous) the most famous street in Accrra after its greatest son. My question was is Ghana following the trend of some other African countries cities like Nairobi and Addid Ababa naming its cities after our great leaders. I dont know and that is why I am asking. The little I have seen of Accrra the street are named after flowers and western names
@@andeyo1 lol I didn't answer that question because it's a rather poorly thought one so I didn't think it dignified an answer. Of course, there are streets named after African heroes in Ghana. Do you really think the leaders across the ages wouldn't do that? It goes without saying. Just because you've seen 3-5 streets with flower or generic names doesn't mean that all the streets are like that. It's like me seeing a video of a slum in a city and thinking all parts of a country look like that. At some point, we have to start using common sense when we consume images in the media. There are streets named after Patrice Lumumba, Amilcar Cabral, former President Mills, etc and FYI the busiest streets in a city vary from decade to decade. Back in the day, the street named after Kwame Nkrumah was the largest and busiest because that was the city centre. The city centre has shifted three times since the 60s so Kwame Nkrumah Avenue is no longer the busiest street. The city authorities are not going to rename streets every decade to match business activity on a street

I understand we all always want to defend our countries. Nigerians should understand that Ghana/ Nigeria would push each other vis versa because in the West they’re the best(and Anglophone) it’s not like East Africa where you have over 4 speaking English. So, Ghana can only reach its potential if she works with Nigeria because it doesn’t matter how we sugarcoat it, in East Africa Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania is still more developed than Ghana in fact small Rwanda is flexing muscles as well. I personally complained about the small roads and sidewalks, Lagos is like that for the most part but understand we don’t consider Lagos a role model in terms of structure, only A go, Ego(money)😀
In all these countries the division of wealth is the issue. A small but extremely rich upper class, relatively small middle class and large % living in poverty, where middle class is ideally the largest group. Health care accessibility for all is what makes a country truly developed.
You sound like a nigerian by the way you compare those east-African countries to Ghana. Fact is with the exception of small parts in South-Africa no African country can really brag about an acceptable/significant standard of development.
@@romanaabo3664 I know. I've made a similar comment about such childish comparisons. Ghanaians and Nigerians have no business comparing one country to the other. Oxford Street became popular because of the night market - street vendors selling food for those enjoying the city at night. Great content I love it 🇳🇬❤🇬🇭
One thing that i have seen is that whilst there is new buildings coming up with modern glass facades, there has not been investments on that road to accomodate these new buildings.
We Africans got issues, how do you judge a whole city based on a 10 minutes video clip?
@@erolireuben1661 Apparently if this is touted as tourist attraction whenever in Ghana. Says alot about the city in general
Wow! Definitely impressed with your well thoughts out plan for this street, a probable solution I think will not only improve the functionality but also dd to the overall beauty of the street. Pardon my curiosity, did you major in Urban and regional planning?

Do you really imagine that there's no street in Accra named after Nkrumah?
This is one of the things that remain from colonisation, I think. Im Ivorian and i'm sick of hearing french names given to the streets of Abidjan.

They don't even share borders both are surrounded by French speaking countries. So this might have just started as banter between these two nations online coz they can't easily argue or have banter with the French speakers.
There's two French speaking countries between Nigeria and Ghana.
Even the street interviews I did some would say they don't like Nigerians but at that point they were playing with their Nigerian friends.
@@AFRICANTIGRESS You're doing great job 👏 👍 Your work is balanced giving travelers a more accurate insight about the cities. He's suggesting you engage in deceptive practices. No country is perfect not even the US- If you doubt me fly to Southern United States, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, West Virginia, South Carolina, certain part of Ohio these are all farm states with run down houses and desolate towns.
Then, take a flight to their Mega Cities NYC, LA, DC, Chicago and see tons of drug addicts and homeless folks lining streets and sleeping in subway trains with their trash. This is America oo. At least African hasn't reach to that level.
There's no perfection anywhere.
To be honest and fairness , this oxford street could easily be matched with surulere, ojuelegba axis
I'm still waiting... I CAN'T wait anymore😴😴
