I had a very small cheap set of markers before (they were a really weird selection of colors but they worked). I wanted to get copics and then I realized how expensive they are. and this Christmas I got a set of Ohuhu’s and I love them and now I need to learn how to use them better! wow I really like that bianyo set, didn't realize you could do that with the lid.... I used to be a fan of the copics (on clearance of course) but realized that figuring out how to refill them with the right homemade color was a HUGE pain so when it comes to markers, as long as they come in lots of colors and have a brush tip then the cheaper the better!
Lately I've been feeling overwhelmed so just resorting to simple adult coloring books while watching movies -- and the occasional popcorn binge. :P Starting to feel better tho, and watching your channel gives me the itch to get creative with other supplies, so yay, thanks Lindsay! 💦🌼💦🌼

I was so pleased with these nibs, usually if a brush marker is under $5 it will have the fiber nibs that fray and not the good nibs like Copic, for $1.80 a marker you can't beat it and now more people can afford these better markers.

Hi Lindsay, I just came across this video of yours, you’re such a good teacher. Remember I asked you about Studio 71 markers. I looked into the Bianyo, didn’t find too many reviews about them. What is your opinion, are they better than the Studio 71? Ohuhu came back with the brush tip,but still 48. I still haven’t decided, but I am inclined towards the Art-n-fly because they are not too expensive, and they have refills and replace the tips. I believe you said you’re not familiar with those? Its a small company and new, just a few years old, a boutique type, they have good quality products. Maybe you would take a look at them. Thank you for your tutorials, they are very helpful 😊

about the marker tips that fray like the blender you showed, not sure if it's the quality of the fibre or the ink but I bought the Michaels brand of alcohol marker a few years ago and the tips went like that in just a few uses... like less than a month!!! I was NOT happy and frankly haven't bought any since which was too bad at the time as the ink was very nice but the tips were awful. Back then there weren't many cheaper brush markers available, now we are spoiled with choice!! Now I have heard that a few places used these types including Blick and they quickly changed them due to these issues but I don't know for sure. I haven't had that happen with any others like the ohuhu, sanjoki, or others like that and I do have a few now.

Hi, Lindsay! I'm planning on buying the Sanjoki brush markers as you suggested as my starter set, but I am lacking many colors. I would like to have a full range of browns from light, mid, and dark for nature and animals. I would also like some pretty colors for flowers with gradients, and true greens and blues for nature. I like Aquamarines and teals for sea animals and scenes, but find that so many marker sets have expanded their range of teals so much that many blues and greens, as well as other colors seem to be sacrificed to make room for them all. Because this video is 4 years old, I am hoping that you have done a recent review of the Bianyo markers so I can see if they can help me fill in some of the blanks in my colors. I am really glad that you did this informative video, see comment below, and that there is a part 2. I am off to watch that right now! Thank you for all your hard work in providing extra tips that many teachers and reviewers seem to overlook. Thank goodness we can always count on you to fill in the blanks!

Hi Debby, My printer is fickle with cardstock but the marker paper worked great, just be sure to print on the right side. As for card size coloring pages I think that Crafter's companion makes pads of marker paper coloring cards. They were released a couple of years ago but I found some on Amazon: amzn.to/2KX0GXJ I think Hot Off the Press might have had some too. Simon Says Stamp makes images on watercolor paper for cards, many designs here: shrsl.com/1kley I have used these water watercolor brush pens and they blend great! I have not tried the crafters companion pads tho.

Hi Lindsay! Please don't apologize for the length of this information packed video. I actually had to stop it quite a few times so that I could keep up with you in my note taking! Some of us out here don't know much at all, and every bit of information you give us is greatly appreciated. I thought marker paper had to be very thick like the paper in the marker coloring book that I just bought from Colorit. I wondered how I would get paper like that through my printer, even though it is supposed to take up to 90 lbs, and a width of 8 1/2" x 11 inches. I would like to use colored pencils over my markers after they dried. Would the sharp pencils rip paper as thin as the Bianyo Marker paper? Several people sent me free pictures to color with markers, and I am very grateful. Should I print them all on paper as thin as Bianyo's Marker paper? What would you print them on, please? I think the card stock you showed would be too small for a full-sized coloring page. Can you help? Thank you so much for your excellent teaching and beautiful artwork. Dee

It's personal preference. If you like blending a 80# blending cardstick is good. If you want to conserve ink use a thin marker paper

@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you for the response. I was really asking about is there any possibility of breathing in anything toxic. Since then, in doing a bit of research on using alcohol ink pens online I have discovered that you should not use them if you are pregnant, and you should wear surgical gloves (because everything that goes onto your skin goes into your body), a quality mask (not those do-nothing masks they had everyone wearing for covid), and if your eyes are sensitive to wear eye protection if you are going to use them regularly. Several kinds of alcohol solvents are used, depending on the manufacturer, so it is good to know the actual contents of the inks. If not likely to take the above precautions, they should at least be used in a well-ventilated area. Possible side effects are not pretty.

Question: I am a single mom and don't have a lot of money to toss around trying to find decent alcohol markers that blend decently. So I would love to get your opinion of out of the markers out there that are in the"more affordable" category. Which would you recommend? I was looking on Amazon and saw so many different brands. So I decided to come see if you had any videos reviewing alcohol markers because I trust your actually looking out for us as your subscribers. I mean it is in the name of your channel! LOL The Frugal crafter! =) But I noticed you actually have quite a few reviews of several different brands of alcohol markers! Sighhhh...... So I figured I would just ask you your opinion! Thank you! Anyone else reading this have any suggestions too I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

    • @thefrugalcrafter

There are a lot of affordable options these days. First of all do you really want a brush tip or will a bullet/chisel do? Most of them Bullet chisel versions are similar quality and price. I have used and recommend Bainyo, ohuhu, arrtx, and arteza. Look at the marker shapes and see if you have a preference on the barrel shape or case they come in. I recommend starting with an 80 market set which will cost around $40 but often there are coupons (I am posting a video tomorrow with a 20% off coupon for any bianyo markers set if you want to check back.)
If you want a brush/chisel market you need to be careful because some brush nibs are flexible and nice and others fray badly. The ones that tend to fray are usually cheaper. The affordable brush nib markers are Bianyo, artnfly and blick studio. In sets these run about $2 per marker or less. There are others that run about $1 but they will fray before you have used up the marker. The exception is the ohuhu brush marker because you can reverse the nib for a fresh tip if it happens and get a good life from it. The blick and artnfly are refillable so it will save you money overtime.

I love that you like to make things super clear when explaining things, but if I were to edit this video, only about 8-10 minutes of it is good, relevant, well-delivered knowledge. The other 11-9 minutes of it can just be edited out.. you’re very smart and I want you
