Greybacks were a strain of fish we used to get late season in the river nith annan and some in the tweed but they were real big all over 20 pounds and usually caught fresh they look quite different to an ordinary back end fish but sadly there long gone
Well done, 90% of the people fishing with a sling are unable to let it go when the fish take but you did so props:) I do it another way but the effect is the same. i make a cast and lower the break on the reel until the river pull line from the reel then tighten it click by click until the river cant pull anymore line out. The result is that when i get a take the fish just pull line and by the time i can hook it it has already turned and i hook it in the scissors. I already know how many clicks i want to add to the break when fighting the fish so thats easy no mather the size of the fish. It doesent mather how you do it as long as what you are doing is letting the fish turn before you hook it.
Horses for courses I suppose. I was taught to fish like that but prefer to hold a loop. It feels natural now and I don't feel that urge to strike anymore when I feel the first enquiry of the fish.
13 1/2 lb exactly as per the McLean's weigh net it was landed in. Not that it matters a bit to me but appearances can often be deceptive in life. I'm sorry that it prevented your enjoyment of the video.

Thanks, there were a lot of fish that ran very late on that particular river. Fish were seen running well into November
