'Magic number 7' - a memorable morning spent chasing spring salmon

If Carlsberg did spring salmon fishing? A day's fishing for Atlantic Salmon for my 50th birthday turned into an unforgettable morning on the River Finn in Co Donegal. Fifty years in the making but worth the wait and memories that will live on for many years to come. Tight lines for 2024, let's hope its a good one!

Well that was amazing! I never thought I'd ever see 7 spring fish caught in one day to one rod in 2024. Must have been some run of fish. Very encouraging and obviously a very healthy river. Very well done!

My switch rod is an evotec cast 11” 5w with a classic 5/8.
I’m using a Mackenzie switch line with it, slightly heavy, but casts like a dream.
Fantastic set up to use.

Anything between 5ft/15ft depending on conditions. The Finn isn’t an overly deep river so I don’t tend to use too heavy a tip unless it’s big water or early cold water

True but they can often be a very good taking places.. lots of theories why but often thought to be because fish can detect the electricity and slows them down and so they can be ‘intercepted’!
