- Thailand, Bangkok: I took the train that goes from Bangkok to Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Nong Khai, it was a crazy but fun experience!
The train was the Express 9075 and I bought the ticket on thairailwayticket.comb for 329 baht, around $10.

Unfortunately it will be a very long time before we can travel to Thailand again. I am from Denmark, and not in the near future can we fly to Thailand. Let alone Thailand opening up its borders. Pure tragedy.
I have taken trains from Hualampong so many times over nearly 25 years. Always loved thai trains. This brings back memories. Good memories.

It is a good train ride. When I was growing in Udon Thani (During the Vietnam war) we used to take this non-air-conditioned 2nd or 3rd class train from BKK (Hua Lamphong) to Udon. It was fun.

you are lucky to travel in special train that only have in covid19 only and it now out of service.Also it a very fast train stop at only Super Major station

The trains in Thailand are what they are....a cheap and safe method to travel. They are there to provide a transportation choice for the not-so-well-off travelers. If one wants more comfort and quicker travel, pay more for the aircon VIP bus or fly.

That's luxury compared to the 213 Baht overnight third class with green bench seats, and metal shutters rather than windows.

If I had to poop I would never be able to get up from that position. I would have to call for help and that would be embarrassing to say the least! The Karst mountains are beautiful! Everything at the train station and in the city is so clean but you never see many people cleaning. Thank you for sharing your adventures. You are eating healthy and losing weight. Seems less stress in your life. Good for you.
I thought this was a very interesting video! As for spending $10 or $8, I definitely would have gone as you did, and spend the extra $2. I’ve never been on a train in my life, so I had nothing to compare this train too, so for me, it looked like a lot of fun. However, seven hours of that kind of fun is probably not as enjoyable as I’m imagining. Guess I’ll try for something more modern for my first train trip! Hopefully the breeze through the windows was enough to keep you cool. Great scenery at times, and of course, the poverty when you were leaving Bangkok. Great to see you so enthused about hitting the road once again!

I rode the train from Bangkok to Surat Thani in July of 1988... Back then when you used the toilet it dropped right through the hole onto the tracks!! Looks like a fun trip!!

@@MichelePonte Depends on the weather whether AC is better than fan. Around 1990 I travelled all the way from Surithani to Chang Mai via BKK Great fun and a real party atmosphere. Check out my channel when you have time.
Its an epic train ride. I have done it. You see so much and the Windows are open.You see so much and when the train go so slow its even better views. I did The third class. It cost 12 baht for foreigner and 10 baht for Thai. 😀 Keep it going. Love to follow your adeventure. 💗

180 baht from BBK to khon kaen 3rd class windows are normally open so air con not required it is an experience but often take the train

The best way to do it is take the 3rd class train Bangkok to korat as it's only 50 bhat and takes 5 hours.
Stay the night in korat. then get the 3rd class train korat too khon kaen for only 38 bhat. Total 88 bhat.

I always get my re-entry from Laos too but take a shuttle taxi cheap back to Bangkok from Nong Khai

I rode the 7 am train to Chonburi. It was interesting when I did it way back in 2002. I took 3rd class and the seat was really hard just like you showed. So second or better if your backside wants comfort. I think it took 3 hours back then.

5.24 Bangkok is the New Central station which will open in next 2 years, then next 5 years with High speed train connecting to Korat and Pattaya. Hualumpong station going to be closed in another 2_3 years.
What did you write on the form for purpose of travel? I may take this train soon. Keep it up Michele
There is no form, Bob. You can mode around that area with zero quarantine restrictions, that’s why I went there
There is a very comfortable sleeper service to Nong Khai, and you save on a hotel room.

I took the Khon Kane - Nong Khai leg of that train, 3rd class, in the mid-90s. At that time the seats were wooden.

@@MichelePonte Oh I left out the good part. I was traveling with my Thai wife and our 4 year-old son. Got an earful the entire length of the trip. I was a struggling graduate student at the time so had to count pennies. But she's a trooper, and a keeper, and we are still together after 30 years.
FLY BKK to Khon Kaen ... less than 1 hour in the air. 2110THB.. £50 ....
The train was 10$, but 8 hours 🙂

Bizarre social distancing on the train - why would the seat next to the window be blocked & make you sit next the the isle?! The isle seats should all be blocked and the window seats be used!
Because it’s the max distance you can get between the heads of the people, but anyway, I’m curious to see how it can be applied to airplanes
The train is for slow life my friend , I am going to Udon too but i will be flying . My vacation in Thailand coming this May 2022 will be short . Train is good for a short journey. There should be a new train 🚂 from BKK to Nong Khai

Yes the trains are so slow. But is like south easter. Europe. I went to Hua Hin. From Bangkok was like 6 hours but was actually 8 hours.

@@MichelePonte Woooaw.... Yeah, I looked at google maps and from Bangkok to Khon Kaen its FLAT! No mountains. It is surprising for me that it is so flat. I do not know Thailand but I imagined it more mountainous around the center of the country. Now I know that there is a big huge plain there, not very entertaining to travel by train 👍

1st class at the moment is not available, so next time all the way to the 3rd class!

For southern & northern or any overnight route, I suggest to take 2nd class w/ac and sleeping bed and u can choose for upper or lower bed with a small difference price. During covid, may be noone pre-booked for first & second class so they do not arrange the car for those classes.
Not as fast and comfortable as Trenitalia or Italo but a nice experience nevertheless hehe

Flights are so cheap there. Bkk to Chiang Mai by plane, 1 hour, is just a few dollars more than the bus. 12-14 hours. I am not abuse person.
