Garen and Ellie, what do you think about making a cute growth chart with one of those pieces of cedar. You could get Shay or Bree to do some art on it, and then hang it on the wall and watch Azalea grow!

OMG I'm on the edge of my seat whenever you use the table saw. Please make and use a push stick, stand to the side of the work never inline, and never ever reach beyond the blade! Saw kickback is dangerous and happens in the blink of an eye. It's especially likely when using the rip fence. You guys always have fresh material and I look forward to every Friday but I never want to hear, "This week... Garen rushes to the ER in a tourniquet!"
The bench came out great, the wood has such a lovely red tone and it looks sturdy enough that Azalea could one day take it to her college dorm.
The bench Looks Great .... I can still smell the Cedar ... mmmm. Can't wait to see the bedroom when it is completed. So nice to see Mom and Dad having a trip with family going down Memory Lane. Love the way Grandma laughed when telling the mouse story 🤣😂😅. Take your time, it is precious.
The bairn's eyes are marble blue. It's rare & bonnie. It means they pop! Think Monet colours. It's a very Celtic trait.
I love the rustic country theme Ellie and Garen have incorporated in the furniture they've made for their home. All the furniture pieces they've made are just stunning. Glad to see Shelly with her mom and brothers. Azalea is just the cutest.

Garden and Ellie, that bench is AWESOME!!! I love how you think about what you want then produce it! Somebody’s teething huh? Everything is being gnawed on! She’s so sweet! It’ll be good to see mom and dad back home but I’m glad they had the time to be with grandma. I’m sure appreciated everybody rallying and turning something sad into something very happy! That’s the true definition of “family”. And that’s why I love you!💕 See you Monday!

You are the BEST children EVER!!! Even if u only have time for a few beautiful plants (your mom loves plants) ... fresh coat of paint on the walls, all new bedding, fresh curtains, a cozy rug to step on when mom puts her toes down on the floor after a good night's sleep, custom piece of BREE art on the wall, a custom piece of pallet wood hanger (Ellie) to hang mom and dad's ( handmade by Shea ... cozy new house coats) on, a new soft as soft can be pillow and blanket for mom to cuddle and cry into, a bed tray w flowers and her favorite beverage and snack on it. ...and a new soft as soft can be pair of horseshoes...a door she can gently close to have a space of her own to ...just be alone w God as He comforts her.
By the way ...."all things are possible w God" believing with you 🙏 that you and friends and neighbors can finish updating mom and dads bedroom/bathroom ❤ before she gets home 🏡

Fantastic bench and coat/hat rack Garen and Ellie. That cedar looked marvelous when you were done. Bree and Bryson, good start on the folks bedroom remodel. After seeing their room compared to the rest of the home it definitely needs a make over and you guys are the ones to make it work. Take care and have a great weekend.

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire video this week - EVERYBODY at home were sooo busy! Such a blessing seeing y'all working together to remodel your Dad & Mom's bedroom. I could see the love y'all have for your parents. It was so good to see Shelley, her Mom and family enjoying each other and having a nice time together. This area of Minnesota is beautiful. I have always loved barns. Garen & Ellie, you have certainly made your house a home and lovingly place within it some very creative pieces. Little Sweetheart, as always, is the "star" and the "show"! Azalea is gorgeous as always and she seems very happy for a kid who appears to be madly teething. Everything was going in her mouth, lol! The furniture for your house looks awesome, Garen and Ellie. It's especially great that you could recycle so much pallet wood. The cedar tops are lovely too :)
About the polyurethane, use fine fine grit sandpaper in-between layers, and do 3 layers. If you think it was much better with the 2nd layer, try a 3rd layer.........your welcome. Smile
garen and ellie think about adding a coat of that sealer on the live edge of the shelf so the cedar will pop. things are looking good at both places.
That shelf is absolutely gorgeous!...and the one for hats and coats...very creative and love the live edge on it. I am sorry for your loss but happy for the reunion and the sharing of memories, The adorable, wee little lassie seems like she looks much like her grandpa and auntie. Such a lovely, kind family all of you.🥰👍❣️💕

Shelley, my mom was born and raised on a farm near Grand Forks, ND. We would drive from Seattle to Grandma’s farm every other summer. Her driveway looked exactly like your grandparents! All my parents and grandparents are gone now and I cherish my memories. Sending you all so much love and blessings. May your memories bring you peace. ❤️❤️

For over 35 years I have done genealogy and the Minnesota trip was special. First so sorry for your lost. The comments of running, playing and the old barn what fun. What touched me as I have thought the very same thoughts is taking time to consider the times and views that would have been way back in time. Emotional for sure and how special the memories of family members that came before.

Glad you enjoyed your project Garen, but you've developed DANGEROUS table saw habits! BE BRIGHT or BE BLOODY tough love, BASIC Shop Safety: NEVER PULL wood through your table saw.😱 Always push from behind the blade. I lost the tip of my right index finger and nearly lost my thumb when I got careless one day🤕, a few weeks before I was supposed to score my first movie (yikes). Had to play 9 fingered to write the music. (full orchestra) Painful and difficult. So many lose digits from unsafe tool technique each year, there's now an EXPENSIVE table saw, Saw Stop (safer but can't afford it). You are NOT "indestructable". You have a wife and child. People are watching you work!! 🚑
Oh my word I agree!! It stresses me out watching him run the pieces of wood through the table saw without a push rod. Garen,If you can make furniture you can make a push rod to save your hands from danger!!

and also no ear and breath protection. both (Garen and Elli) handle sandingdust and the chemical thingy from the paintings without protection. but where shoould the learn it? dad is doing it the same way - see Bryson is also doing the same :( . good lord. take care of you and your family (even if you have no spouse, you have siblings and parents!)
I, too, was thinking the same exact thing!... Safety really is the first thing you have in mind when you work the with any equipment... And I saw some unsafe habits from both of you, guys... My heart jumped out of my chest so many times, it's not even funny lolol...

All that blue sky and green landscape! After all the fires and resulting ash in the air that turns the sky unnatural colors, it's a shock to see blue and green again.
I really love to see Garen and Ellie working and building together. I mean, it seems like everyone in the family works together well. But I just think about myself and my husband and how great it would be to build things together if we had the time/space/opportunity. We've worked together on projects before (mostly making video games before kids/work overtook our lives) and it was really fun and rewarding. So it's great to see a young couple starting their marriage really being a team.

I dont usually post advice but Garen should really bone up on his table saw safety. A good push stick will hold the board down and allow you to safely push it through.

It's never easy to lose a parent no matter how old you are or what age they may have been. I hope you are doing ok? I'm taking it day by day, I hope you are also doing the same? Y'all did it again! Fantastic video, fantastic projects, fantastic skills! Hey Mom! I grew up in Minnesota and now live in the great northwest (Oregon). Small world, we also share having recently lost our fathers. Mine passed May 5th, Cinco De Mayo, and I remember telling you how my daughter died in her sleep eleven days later. I don't think I mentioned I had to put both of my dogs down in July. And we finally heard from the coroner, nothing showed on toxicology to go along with the big goose egg the autopsy laid. They are about to check genetics for possible hereditary heart arrhythmias. If that's it, it means my other four kids could be at risk.I'm sorry! I keep doing this to you! I turn a perfectly wonderful video into a so story. It was her twenty first birthday Wednesday and it's brought everything right to the surface. I love you all and simply adore Azalea! She's one of the prettiest babies I've seen! 💙💚💜💛

The story of a mouse behind the fridge reminds me of something. At one point in my childhood home, we had a mouse/rat problem. My dad found a rat in the laundry room, grabbed a pair of grill tongs, and tried to catch it. I could hear things being shoved around as he tried to get it, and eventually he came out of the laundry room, victorious, a rat in his tongs. He threw it out the back door as soon as he could.

That area you visited looks very familiar; I used to have a 🐐 farm in southwest Minnesota near a town called Pipestone. I’ve since moved to the forests of the north and find I enjoy this half of the state more. I think it’s wonderful that you made such a trip to honor your ancestors and family history. I’ve done the same, visiting the North Dakota homestead my great grandparents settled on from Norway. Amazing to think about what they went through.
I love how ellie and garret try to use every part of a peice of wood that they can for their house and im happy that we finally got a peak at the master bedroom and your all trying to fix it up for yoir parents, dod they know you were going to takle their room or was it a surprise?

You should put 1-2 coats of poly on that small piece of live edge on the coat/hat rack. It’ll look amazing above the bench.

Exciting going to minnesota as that is my home state too. They are blessed to have 4 wonderful adult kids. So nice of some of them to remodel their master bedroom while they are on their trip.
