Absolutely loved this episode. It was great listening to Rob kinda reflect on himself 20 years ago but my absolute favorite moment of the entire podcast was when Mary and Maggie were basically saying "Yeah! Were you just like... holding onto jokes until the camera crew came around? Like you weren't even talking to your tribe most of the time! It was just comments to the camera like you were trying to be funny for TV." and Rob just kinda giggles and goes "Yeah"
I was so rooting for Rob to go all the way in this one because he was working harder than anyone and pulling off some alliance flip flops that had just never been done. It still amazes me that the episode after he orchestrated the Alex blindside that he was still able to convince Heidi and Jenna who to vote for while they were so pissed at him.
What I loved about Rob’s game was how he, even though he had a strong alliance already, kept Matt and Butch close to him so that if he ever needed to blindside his alliance, which he had to, he could easily bring them along. This is what gave him the power and ultimately made his the deciding factor in most votes.
As someone who watched 1-40 in the pandemic, this season literally saved the show for me. I barely got through 1-4 and quit halfway through 5. If if wasn't for this season being so fun and modern, I don't think I'd have watched further
Funny thing is Rob's strategy is based off of Danielle Reyes BB3. It's quite amazing how well it worked here and made this season seem ahead of it's time. However, I really think it's still a better BB strategy since it's so fluid with playing all sides which is far more valuable when any side can win the power versus a simple majority vote like Survivor.
I might be in the minority but I would personally only have one of there seasons in the top 10 and it's the one most people would say is there 3rd favorite of the bunch.
@@The_FilmRoom no I think its good but for me it's not top 10. The premerge is awesome but the post merge is such a slog it's essentially a pagonging with the captain of sports squeezed in the middle there and Russell running around saying he's controlling the game and he's the best of all time every episode until he gets roasted at FTC it gets tiring after a point. I like Sandra she's a great winner in my eyes and I was rooting for her but the season as a whole is good but not top 10 for me.
@Raheem Fielder-Bey I know I'm in the minority I tend to have some opinions that go against the grain of the average survivor fan like I wouldn't put Micronesia in my top 20 where Panama and Tocantins are in my top 5 and I'm much higher on WA then the rest of the fanbase.
Watched survivor for the first time over the pandemic and immediately fell in love with this season upon my first watch and deciding between this , China , or Micronesia as my favorite season and Amazon is still #1
I had this season ranked #12. For me, the main thing that holds this season out of my top 10 is the pre-merge because it's quite predictable for who goes early on, even though the people on the show are entertaining throughout. I thought the whole idea of men vs. women considering the Amazon women was a thing in that region was a great idea throughout. In my opinion, the Mixer reward challenge is something that should be brought back because it's just a fun challenge in general. Once we hit the merge, people like Rob, Heidi, Deena, or Alex really help make this season enjoyable. Rob's confessionals are probably some of the best ones you'll ever have on the show. From Deena through Christy, each vote is really solid, but then it slows down a bit as you get to the end. Jenna was a solid winner for this season, but I feel like Rob or Heidi would've probably made it even better for me. Overall, this season is fun, exciting, and has it's moments. Jenna and Heidi taking off their clothes for peanut butter, Butch and the excessive firewood, as well as Matthew sharpening the machete. This season is definitely fantastic and is definitely worth being around the top 10, but for me, a few slower moments for the season early and late keep it just outside for me.
I love the stripping for PB and chocolate scene, not because it's tantalizing but because Jenna is like "strip Heidi, we said we'd do it, strip!!!! >:|" and Heidi is like "oh, okay, yeah, okay, I guess", it feels like a comedy sketch
I like the pre-merge. Plenty of stuff happens, and it’s a build to the merge. The seasons that are rough are ones where the pre-merge is the better half. I’m definitely more of an old school fan, as my top 9 seasons are 1-7, 9-10. It was never the same show after that. Those first five years were magic. Amazon, Marquesas, PI make up my top three in some order.
@@michaelfeeney6108 Glad you liked it. However that was the season that made me quit survivor. While I appreciate Brian's game today, kinda, it was just a boring mean season. It existed, all I can say. But im happy there are fans of the season.
@@matthewh7085 I guess I’d just take it over whatever the show has become today. To your point, if I had to rank the first ten seasons, it would be very low.
@58:00 this was what tv/media showed and what was not only accepted but encouraged unfortunately. Thankfully we have come a long way in a short time and we continue to grow and learn as humans…. Well some of us. Ngl kinda annoying to hear Maggie be going on and on about some of the comments made 20 years ago. I’m not defending the comments or behavior however I wish people that were old enough to have remembered and understood what it was like at the time season 6 was recorded were the majority on this panel. Clearly you couldn’t be like that now but she comes off kind of “Better than” imo I usually really like her and her perspective though. 😊
I agree. Talk about beating a dead horse, she wouldn't shut up about it. Calling it rampant sexism is a bit ridiculous considering the theme of the season was to divide them by gender. Of course, the producers were going to focus on that element.
WaW definitely had some good moments, but I think it’s overrated. I really don’t like the Edge of Extinction twist. I like seeing past winners not leave the game entirely, but the advantages of being voted out early just seem unfair.
The best Rob joke is the spears one... I cannot believe I am just watching survivor now despite being a RHAP fan for years with BB content. Rob literally made this season.
I was so excited to listen to this podcast, for so many years now I just never knew why Jenna won the season. Unfortunately after listening to this entire five hour podcast I am still at a loss as to why Jenna won?! Rob, you never explained why everybody voted for Jenna, this season is truly the most confusing winner to me. Matt was hard-working, caring, considerate, loyal, I don’t understand why people didn’t vote for him to win over Jenna. Jenna was from what I saw rude, spoiled, stuck up, lazy at camp, she definitely ranks the lowest out of all the winners of Survivor I believe. It’s true Rob should have one overall, but with Jenna and Matt in the final two it should have been Matt, it probably would’ve been my favorite season if he would’ve won over Jenna.
To me, the reason seemed to be: The people actually there and voting didn't really like Matt, or at least not as much as Jenna - they thought he was crazy and creepy. He was a goat. And I say this as someone who also loved Matt when I watched the season for the first time, and was rooting for him during Final Tribal Council - but the way the audience feels about the person they see on screen is not always the same as the way the players feel about them while actually spending that game time with them, and from what I understand, Matt just didn't fit in with the others or was as liked as much as Jenna. That's my take anyway.

I love Matt and I feel he gets a bad wrap a lot of times. He wasn't an excellent survivor strategist but I don't think people should have called him creepy.
