  • Science is our best tool to learn objective truth. But to do so, scientists must not be afraid to fail. How does a debunked discovery prove the value, and intrigue, of science? Join TED speaker and renowned blogger Phil Plait for answers. Phil Plait is an astronomer and science communicator. He wrote and hosted "Crash Course Astronomy", which has over 33 million views on TH-cam, and was the head science writer for the first season of "Bill Nye Saves the World" on Netflix. He is the author of three books, as well as the blog "Bad Astronomy" where he evangelizes science with joy and passion. He has lived in Colorado for more than a decade with his wife and daughter (and an increasingly four-legged menagerie of horses and goats). His first TEDxBoulder talk was “How to Defend the Earth from Asteroids”, and he knows that science needs to be daring to search for truth… including acknowledging missteps along the way. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Bravo! Companies are hiring experienced people that won´t fail so they won´t lose money. That means never find new ways to solve a problem or to see it with a new set of eyes. I agree it is painful to find out one is wrong, and to accept it is for courageous people.

Like science seeks to understand the universe and there is more to discover. What is not known or seen for now isn’t necessary non-existent.

To sum up what Phil Plait said here:

Every result is a result. Even if the result is that nothing happened.
