    I have a friend who lives in a small town in Utah. One of the counselors in the bishopric would tell his wife everything that went on with the bishop such as people confessing sins etc... Soon the whole town knew and no one went to talk with the bishop anymore.

    I think someone that greets new move-ins is a great idea and helps make sure that they are feeling welcome and helped when We moved into our Ward. I had seven kids at the time. Ages 15 to 3 months old including twins that were two and we had a man in the ward that had just passed away and the relief society seemed to be focused on helping the wife and when they came to visit me I had to stop them to say that I could use some help because they didn't offer me anything. They just came in to say hi. So I think a calling like that is great because sometimes the presidency is stretched pretty thin

    I don't have all the details. I would like to believe that the Bishop was working in good faith. But, I also know that there are activists within the church. In the end, it comes down to the intent of the heart. If the Bishop was acting with the intent to support feminism, then there is a serious problem. The purpose to undermine the role of the priesthood is destructive.
    Again, I don't know the details. I hope this was done in good faith.

    I tend to agree with you on most things, Troy, and this as well. If this is being done by revelation through higher leadership, then go for it, but if it’s being done for other reasons like political reasons, then I cannot get behind it. If it’s true the bishop was released and leadership rearranged, then that says a lot about what is going on there. It’s an interesting discussion for sure but I’m on the side of taking direction from the Lord on things like this.

    My goodness, this should not be controversial. Here's my experience:
    Years ago, the bishopric called me as the ward typist. This wasn't an auxiliary position, but as an assistant to the bishopric. I met with new members, families of newly blessed babies and baptized children to ensure their certificates were completed accurately and typed neatly. When completed, I presented them to the family for review and on their approval, to the bishop for signature and recording. I also prepared the ward bulletin and other programs. Sisters do similar recording preparation work in the temples. Sisters also assist with sealing cancellation requests. In each case, sisters assist the priesthood. Sometimes this required conversation and sensitivity, such as the time a new member knew only one parent's name or had two parents with male names.

      You’re right. Your calling does seem totally normal.
      The problem as I see it is this movement for women to “be seen”. We’re already “seen”. Those who agitate for this are doing it for other purposes. They perceive that sitting on the stand - as one example- conveys power or status and they want that. That is what I find foolish and wrongheaded. Seeking position for “equality” or status is the opposite of what any calling in the church is about. They’re just envious of what they perceive as “inequality “. Being equal isn’t being the same.

Our daughter was very insistent at times when she has needed help and then we have gone back and forth with her trying to be in tune and good listeners to her and making sure that she knew that no matter what was put in her head, that her foundational truths were that she is a daughter of God and and our daughter and we love her soooo much and that nothing would ever change that. Well I guess I don’t understand why that bishop didn’t just say to the relief society president to call someone for that position? A relief society president has the authority to call people to positions with the bishops approval. She can call what is called an add hock position which is temporary and that’s without his ok. So why would the bishop say that her position was an assistant to himself and not the relief society organization? Strange. … 🤔Sounds as if they are trying to pacify some one with liberal ideals. Not acceptable!

  • @JG-cx4fs
    @JG-cx4fs 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Does that inherently mean those women are now directly working off the priesthood line? With the same rights and authority from Jesus Christ? When they are set apart, how is their calling stated? Are they given certain priesthood rights? Is it just an advisor?
    And I didn’t know that structurally, bishops or otherwise we’re allowed to deviate from the structure of the church. That’s why we have the bishops Council advisory booked so that there’s an equal understanding of how things are run throughout the global church.
    Our church in Ohio once put Christmas lights up. It was beautiful, the church office let us know that wasn’t acceptable. Which is fine.

    • @JG-cx4fs
      @JG-cx4fs 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@scubed8671 I do understand that in the temple, women are giving special authority for that. But I would say it depends on how this calling is received.
      An advisor, if that covers the needs of the Ward.. then OK.
      If this is some activist role trying to advocate for giving the women the priesthood, then not only are we splitting hairs, it could be divisive in long-term, not healthy.

    I don't understand why advisors would be needed. Both the RS and EQ presidents (and their counselors) are now responsible for the general membership of the ward, with the exception of worthiness issues, welfare, general callings, etc. If additional advisors were really needed, it would be those two auxiliaries. And if that were the case, it wouldn't just be women called.
    The bishop's main responsibility is to the youth. If additional advisors were needed for the Bishop, it would be to help with the youth. But again, any additional advisors (outside of his counselors and auxiliary leaders) would need to be both male and female.
    I couldn't find anything in the Handbook, which makes me suspicious of all of this.

It also referred to her private conversations with Joseph Smith regarding the society.
      In December 1867, when President Young issued his first public call for the reorganization of local Relief Societies, many Latter-day Saints were unfamiliar with the organization. Young assigned Snow “to assist the Bishops in organizing Branches of the Society in their respective Wards,”3 a responsibility that apparently included a mandate to provide women and their bishops essential information about the organization’s structure and purposes. Snow thus met with many local Relief Societies and wrote letters to others explaining the structure and purposes of the organization.4 Beginning in 1868, as she traveled from ward to ward to establish the Relief Society, she carried the original Nauvoo minute book with her and often read from it to emphasize the organization’s foundations and to provide guidance regarding how it should be organized and what it might accomplish.”
