9:58 for me the column shifter is one of their best features. It clears the space near the center console. You don't use it pretty often once you start driving the car, and it is out of the way.

Agreed. However, I don't believe there's a RWD V6 option which is kind of sucky. It'd have been nice to have the RWD option with a bigger engine. In fact, they should dump that I4 and just keep the V6 or go with the I6.
Oddly, the 20 inch rims look super small on this. Maybe it's because of the black wheel arches. For the money, I think I'd go for a higher end GLC since I don't need a third row. Great review as usual!
I don’t know why MB bothers to put a third row in an SUV that small. If customers want a legitimate third row, they should just upgrade to the larger GLS.

4 cyl base engine with 250+ hp, no way it is better than a BMW X5, the X5 has a standard turbo straight 6 with 330+ hp, at least offer 300+ hp if you are going make a turbo 4 for a base price of High 50k range, the x5 looks better, has better interior quality and it drives better, the interior of the GLE has some cheap plastics which is not acceptable for the price
I have an x5 F15, love it to death, but I have to say I've been loving the looks of the GLE 350s and 400, it's alot more wider like hips and makes it look more tough I guess, and I like the shape of the roofline as well, seems like a taller vehicle in general compared to my X5. Only thing I think they should have done is put more power in the engine, even a V8 etc. If it's going to look beefy and semi aggressive with the width and all it needs more power. That's one thing I can say my X5 will go and I do have the M so it's not an exact comparison to the standard GLE but I still think it deserves a bigger engine. I know it being a Mercedes it is luxury first, but still. Just like the 63 etc. In fact if it had a bigger engine, more hp I would consider swapping from the BMW to the Mercedes, and I say that as used to have a Mercedes car so I'm not loyal to any single brand. You get a nice higher model GLE in white without the black plastic wheel trim that's a nice tough looking Mercedes, the wide taller look is awesome 👍
@ Steven A. They do offer the inline six option with more power in the 450, then you get 53 and V8 63 (regular and S) but be prepared to give up an arm and a leg for those, they are mostly seriously overpriced and over-optioned.
Actually looks pretty good. It’s the Front fake vents for Me that turn me away, they should’ve did it a bit different. The 3rd row is mad tight! I didn’t even think it would have one based on its small size.

Well done and informative review. I’m looking into replacing my old ML350 so the GLE350 is a candidate. I’m skeptical about a turbo 4 since my old 103k mile car is just adequate with a normally aspirated 3.5L V6. So, the GLE450 turbo 3.0L inline 6 with the 48V mild hybrid assist comes to mind. Also, I don’t like the plastic fender arches and the spider web, fish scale lower front grill with the swelled catfish whisker cheeks. Overall, I like the GLE. And, the AMG trim package option on non-AMG’s corrects the plastic arch and fish scale face cosmetic mistakes. Thank you.
As much as I support the M-B brand, the direction of their design philosophy, styling, and flow, is too curvy and soft, for my liking. Tad disappointed with this one... 🏁🏁
Plastic cladding is quite a disgusting (maybe not so much) trend that every automaker has started to do. For the GLE, it sucks that they force you to buy the highly priced options to get body colored cladding, quite a distasteful habit that they are all doing, but it is a trend that is here to stay, kinda like the tacked on infotainment screens these days. Whoever started that trend should be banished and banned from the auto industry.
I only watched because it's you Joe!! Entertaining, knowledgeable and informative, no matter what brand or model. I do love the 24" display BUT...For my money, I'll go Cadillac XT4 or XT6. I know the German manufacturer loyalist fans will disagree but opinions, right?

I’ve owned 3 Mercedes over the last 17 years. I loved each one of them great cars, but I hated the service department. They are how should I say this “THIEVES”! The last dealing with them sealed the deal that made me swear to never buy a Mercedes ever again! My wife brought our GLE 2020 in for an inspection service. They told her we needed brakes, front brakes and new rotors for $1,000 and back brakes for $500 (WTF). This was the last straw as Mercedes has charged me ridiculous prices for other work in the past years. I brought the GLE into a local shop the cost around $700 for both front and back no rotors needed. They told me it was expensive because Mercedes charges $200 for the front and $200 for the back pads.
COACH JJ ~ the third row cracks me up, it's like the back seats in my Mini Cooper S = why? why even bother lol. I'd rather opt for just two rows & keep the larger back storage space open. I kinda like the interior & that honking huge dash screen, peppy? that's not too shabby RWD? heck yes. seems like it handles & rides well. good lil SUV for tooling round town. I concur on that fake vent next to the screen = why? lol. Florida drivers remind me of Texas drivers > everyone is going 30 mph over the speed limit & no one uses their turn signals haha. it's like you either keep up with the pace of the highway crowd or get ran off the road lol. Great review Joe! For 64k not worth it....cargo space is small, no USB's in the 3rd row as well as it very tight back there. Question for you wheres the heated and vented seats in the 2nd row? Do love the tech and interior and it certainly drives well but for me definitely not a vehicle l would buy.
Hi could you please tell me how you adjust the lumbar support on the driver seat? I am showing this car to a buyer and he was concerned that the seat was too stiff or the bolster arches and the back cushion was too Hard. I sat in it and noticed the difference from the passenger seat.
To answer your question... and from someone who looked at the GLE vs X5 forever before making a decision: -For the same price you mentioned the X5 I purchased comes with an inline/straight 6 engine vs the GLE's inline 4 -X5 at this price range has x-drive / all-wheel drive -0-60 in X5 is below 5.5 seconds or over 1.1 seconds faster than GLE -X5 has semi fake exhaust pipes whereas the GLE is 100% fake -GLE takes the cake for interior and that is about it

Joe, no comments on the Mojave Silver Metallic Color? By the way, you test drove the same color GLE as my wife's car but this one had the 3rd row seats and different color leather seats than ours. It also had the memory seats for the passenger side which we didn't go for unfortunately. One zone on your review though, you missed giving feedback on the Seat Kinetics feature on the driver's side while driving. That would've been a nice touch. Also did your ride here have Augmented Reality for Navigation as well as heated and cooled cup holders? We have these two features and that could've been more helpful if you covered those.

Mercedes nailed the styling on this SUV! That 2.0t is too weak though. You have to get at least the 450 to get a proper luxury experience

yikes..... $64k for a 4cyl Mercedes!!!! seems a little blasphemous!!!! However, This makes the case that the ML350 with it's v6 and marginally lower price was a better value.. Last, the nintendo switch LCD screen is a bit ridiculous. It works well in the S-Class, not on the ML/GLE

Joe, no comments on the Mojave Silver Metallic Color? By the way, you test drove the same color GLE as my wife's car but this one had the 3rd row seats and different color leather seats than ours. It also had the memory seats for the passenger side which we didn't go for unfortunately.
One zone on your review though, you missed giving feedback on the Seat Kinetics feature on the driver's side while driving. That would've been a nice touch. Also did your ride here have Augmented Reality for Navigation as well as heated and cooled cup holders? We have these two features and that could've been more helpful if you covered those.
