man, this made me cry alot. English isn't my first language, I used to listen to this song when i was younger a lot because of the melody but didn't get all the words. I always heard how emotional this song is but never understood how deep and emotional it is until I watched it here again with the video after my English is improved and with lyrics being read. Katy writes her songs herself and I am always amazed that I can instand releat to them or understand what she wants to say.

You should listen to the accoustic version too, that one is even more beautiful and heartbreaking in my opinion.
this one always gets me. and the video is super specific, about a relationship and what could have been. but take the song alone for a moment, and think of that other half she sings about, and the "what ifs," and picture it about herself, or yourself, as the one that got away; stuff u didnt do, stuff that u did and regret, as if life passed u by, and all those possibilities of being that one, that got away. yeah, ive just blown ur mind.
