I just heard this song a week ago. This is one of the most amazing songs I’ve ever heard. The production is amazing. The instrumentation is impeccable. It sends chills through my body. Music is transcendent.
Welcome to the discography of Dave Mathews Band! It seems nobody can deny how perfect this song is. I first heard about DMB as a little kid in the 90s. When I was slightly older, maybe 11, I got to pick out a CD at Best Buy and knew it had to be DMB. A kindly fellow shopper helped me make the best choice and when I first heard this song way back then, it was instantly a favorite. My daughter feels the same way, too.
I know she liked this song, idk if she loved as much as I do but my sister died of breast cancer way too young and this song makes me bawl my eyes out every time I hear it, but I always feel close to her when I listen.
S H I sure did... everytime I saw them I was always focused on Leroi carter and Boyd. All three were amazing to see and the fact they were all on the same stage... brilliant! I’ll never forget 12/1/98, check it out if you don’t know. What a show and collection of talent all on stage that night
Bro, I’m 21 it’s 2023 and I didn’t skip a single second of this song the first time I watched it. While I can barely get through a 20 sec tik tok. This is one of the best performances I’ve heard from a band and live. Thank you Dave Matthews band.
I've seen them twice.. both amazing... but not like this. They were really in sync on this show. Freaking killed it, and they knew it! I hope all who attended know how lucky they were to see such cohesive GREATNESS this nite❤
other people don't get it but for me, this song... this live version of #41... puts me in a place where there is absolutely nothing wrong with the world and regardless of who's next to me, we both feel better that the other one is there.
Amen, it's only a magical place Dave fans know about. It's a Dave thing ( DMB has helped me though, the best and worst of times. I am 49, I seen Dmb over 50 times roped me in from the start. Only band ever, to hit every nerve one can imagine. Only band, that every song means something to someone. Can't think of any band, that has so much passion in their music. Eddie from Pearl, my be the closest. Alice and Chains, before Lane other then that it's a long shot. Dmb best band, in my heart ever.
Still can’t believe Leroi is gone. What a sweet sweet sound. My 12 yr old is learning the saxophone and he needed to do a project on a famous sax player. I told him about Leroi and he was blown away.
Playing this at the cemetery grave site for my dearly departed fiance who passed away on August 19th, 2022. She turned me on to the hole Dave Matthews experience, and we want to many of his shows. Makes you rest in peace. She lives in my heart forever.
I grew up obsessed with DMB. I can play every song of his on the guitar and almost nothing else. I spent nearly 20 years in prison starting in 2002 and this music is one of the few positive things of my life before prison that has stayed with me.
I agree. just listened to #41 live at Wrigley. still love DMB now even with all the changes. but this was the essence of DMB. Dave’s voice still had the smoothness to it. just the 5 of them flowing on stage. They were at top form here.
I just heard this song in 2024 for the first time. Maybe the most beautiful song ever written/performed. This song touches all the saddest tones of suffering in our human existence---feelings of betrayal and of loss that we experience in life. Yet all at the same time watching these comrades perform together shows you the beauty and hope of humanity :)
That's pretty much sums up how I feel about it. Especially the line: why won't you ever be glad? it melts into wonder 💜💜💜 welcome to the dancing Nancy's!
Am I the only one the never wants that sax solo to end! It's pure bliss! The crescendo at the end of the solo where the violin and drum tempo picks up to match the solo is just magical!
I think Jeff has done a great job playing with DMB but I still havnt seen them live since Leroi left this world. He was so much of the soul of this band for me.
I am 70 years old and have lived through the best times of Rock n Roll history, this song in my opinion is ones of the greatest copulation of genres I have ever heard. Wish I could have been there
This is a perfect example of why it’s so important for artists to play actual instruments. Music is dynamic and imperfect. That’s what makes it so appealing. DMB is a mix of amazing artists who are the very best at their craft. Going to a DMB concert is a life changing experience. The energy in the air is palpable and the diversity in the crowd is beautiful. It’s a party that everyone is invited to and all collectively take part in.
Seeing DMB from like 98-02 while in college was absolutely the best time to be alive. So many amazing memories with friends and about 15-20 epic shows I saw over those years. Just absolutely amazing and seeing this again for the first time in probably 15 years, just flooded me with such amazing memories. Anyone that doesn’t enjoy live music, are literally wasting their lives
Yes! DMB was the soundtrack to my college life! He and Tim actually played a show at my little KY college. I don’t remember ever being so excited for anything in my life. Seeing Dave live has always been such an amazing, soul renewing experience. I’ll see him any chance I can get.
Agree. I was lucky to live in Richmond and see them as they went from Trax to the Flood Zone, Brown’s Island and Dave live at SBC and then on to national audiences. Really didn’t understand at the time what a wonderful moment in time it was but so appreciative now.
Holy f*** this gave me goosebumps. Seeing the guy shred on the violin was amazing. Then you get the saxophone, I just lost it. Amazing and a new fan of DMB!
Glad u joined! Play this on youtube and other DMB songs. Cheese . grapes amd crackers. With your speacial one.... Nd she will never forget how amazing u are
Been listening to them my whole life bc of my mom (I’m 26) but never watched this before … holy shit, I’m so jealous of older ppl they had it so good with live performances
We're all afraid of the uncertainty, especially now. Love someone, and try to do good each day. RIP Leroy. Can't wait till i can go to a DMB concert and we can ALL get back to some normalcy of some type. Stay well!
And now that Joe “You know, the thing” Biden has won and the tech giants have officially initiated their total domination of public speech in America - You should be scared. This is unprecedented and terrifying. God help the USA 🇺🇸
Hands down the best sax solo. My heart bleeds Leroi. No one can play the musical colors he paints. The crescendo in this is amazing and deserves all the highest praises.
Yesssss!! They are meant to be experienced live...I've seen hundreds of shows ,big and small and none of them (even by bands I adore) come close to a DMB show
I saw DMB live for the first time at Fiddlers Green last October. They played this song. Now i am totally HOOKED! gonna see them as many times as I can afford this year. Already have primo seats for the Denver shows in September.
I heard it randomly in the club by local band yesterday, found it by lyrics , and I’m just obsessed with it. It’s a masterpiece. This live version is just so good that I can listen to it all day long. ❤ pure love
Things changed when Roi passed on. I’m a hometown DMB fan since 91. I love them all the same today, but man that soprano and tenor sax held it together❤️💚🖤
I forget how incredible Listener Supported was. These cats in their prime with the whole band. Just gold. RIP To the GrooGrux. Big whiskey in the sky brotha.
I had forgotten too, I played the hell outta these cds and have probably watched the DVD 100+ times. Me and my high school girlfriend used to go in my bedroom and put this dvd on pretty loud because....well, you get the rest lol
it literally blows my mind that this album is 24 years old! Listener Supported was the first DMB album I owned and 24 years later it still hits the same, if not better!
Anyone who has NOT SEEN DMB LIVE-please add them to your bucket list!! Late 1990’s to early 2000,I saw DMB several times, with any show at Red Rocks,Co, the best place to see them.
This is my favorite version of this song! I drove home from college to catch this show on PBS in the middle of the week because I couldn’t get reception on my TV in my apartment. My parents thought I was nuts. I stood there in the middle of my living room dancing around like I was at the show! I enjoyed every second. I forget just how magical the original band was together. RIP LeRoi! I wish Boyd was still part of the band! His sound is unique and I miss in this song, Lie in Our Graves and the Stone the most! I understand and support the band’s decision, but I still miss it!!! Can’t wait for this summer tour! I have tickets to 5 shows😍🥰
I am too one of my favorite songs he’s ever made! Saw him live in noblesville in 1995? I think it was right when under the table and dreaming had just started getting radio play and he refused to play satellite cause he was sick of hearing it all the time!
Everything I've ever loved about different kinds of music; combined into one amazing band. My older brother used to try to get me to listen to this years back when I was using. Needless to say I'm sober now and this is the best music I've honestly ever heard.
Me as well, but buzzed or not,I’ll listen to this piece several times a week and share it for all to hear. The absolute best performance in all aspects that I’ve ever heard in my lifetime. I can’t get enough of it especially with the drummer who’s always ready to keep everyone pushing it to their absolute limits and how they feed off each other’s absolute perfect playing . I can’t say enough about it! It’s enough that I actually tear up watching them interact with each other and feed of each, and let one another know that they are each totally impressing the other🤘🏻👌✌️⚡️✨❤️❤️💯
But let me say,Congratulations on your sobriety,I know that I better find it soon. Be well good sir! And keep on rocking and moving forward in positive direction!🤘🏻
Older sister died a couple years ago, don’t even know if this was her favorite song but she loved DMB for a time. Full grown man and want to cry like a little girl every time I listen to this. Miss her so much. This helps bring back the memories.
Yeah man, my dad died when I was young but this was his favorite band and I just remember jamming in the car with him to it.. moms favorite band too.. can’t imagine what listening to them is going to have me feeling in 30 years or so..
my mom loves this band so much it’s funny. But because I love her so much as well I made my sports numbers all 41 just so she’s reminded every time she watches me play
F Man, Miss you ROI. Beautiful 70 degree March day in Seattle-still in Awe of you and this performance 3/16/24
I just heard this song a week ago. This is one of the most amazing songs I’ve ever heard. The production is amazing. The instrumentation is impeccable. It sends chills through my body. Music is transcendent.
My all time fav dmb song 💯
Amen.
It’s my favorite

Speak for yourself
Lerois solo with the saxis amazing
Amen, brother. Amen.

Stopped listening after Leroy passed

Rip leroi literally blew my mind 100000000 times
you have great musical taste my friend. Some bands are timeless. DMB is one of those bands.
I've seen them twice.. both amazing... but not like this. They were really in sync on this show. Freaking killed it, and they knew it! I hope all who attended know how lucky they were to see such cohesive GREATNESS this nite❤
Welcome to life. Spread the word #evolveordissolve
Young man type in jeff Buckley. Lover you should've come over. Live Chicago..
Love this song and version. Take me back to a time when the crowd wasn't full of cell phones. ❤
You got it, thats right
You can’t say enough about Carters brilliance
No words, only goosebumps.. over and over again
other people don't get it but for me, this song... this live version of #41... puts me in a place where there is absolutely nothing wrong with the world and regardless of who's next to me, we both feel better that the other one is there.
Same bro same. This is pure bliss
It's a masterpiece for sure
What an impeccable way to put it, man. Cheers.

You just made me cry. Those notes he produced for us will forever be a gift. RIP Leroi

Such a beautiful song and I just read your beautiful words about your fiancé.Thinking of you
I'm so sorry for your loss💔
I'm so sorry for your loss.
😢💔🙏🏽
Bless y'all Both 💞🕉️
Geez, I'm so sorry, man. I hope you're doing well a year and a half later.
I grew up obsessed with DMB. I can play every song of his on the guitar and almost nothing else. I spent nearly 20 years in prison starting in 2002 and this music is one of the few positive things of my life before prison that has stayed with me.
What did you do 20 years for, my dude?
Post some vidoes on youtube, love to see your learnings and I know I'll be jelous of your DMB guitar mastery..
Probably j-walking, you get more time for petty crimes than murder!
@@richardmash7163 you’re right.
tax evasion, j-walking, selling cigarettes by the piece.
I was hit and run and given that same time frame, short is the life , long is the road.
Best live version of this song. Hands down.

I wonder if you'd say that after hearing the version with Victor Wooten on it. th-cam.com/video/Znqicpn142g/w-d-xo.html
Central Park gets my vote
h.clark absolutely yes - LeRoi wrecks me every time - it’s all just so great
Disagree -- #41 w/ Victor Wooten in Boston, MA circa 2013-2014 is the best
I just heard this song in 2024 for the first time. Maybe the most beautiful song ever written/performed. This song touches all the saddest tones of suffering in our human existence---feelings of betrayal and of loss that we experience in life. Welcome to the party pal
Welcome
Song is a standard
Been in the rotation since early 2000s
That's pretty much sums up how I feel about it. Especially the line: why won't you ever be glad? it melts into wonder 💜💜💜 welcome to the dancing Nancy's!
Amen…lyrics are soul searching
Yes magical!!
by FAR my favourite version of this song!!! The whole set is incredible.
This isn't just music, it's an experience.
I said the very Same thing last weekend at the gorge

Músicos de altíssimo talento , você escuta dia a dia e não enjoa

2025 baby!
The most amazing song I have ever heard!!
If this song doesnt touch your soul ,you dont have one.😊
Am I the only one the never wants that sax solo to end! It's pure bliss! The crescendo at the end of the solo where the violin and drum tempo picks up to match the solo is just magical!
Shit he had a flute solo as well!
Fuckin shit yeah wow
@@Coopyi Right, RIP, Leroy, so so missed...
I think Jeff has done a great job playing with DMB but I still havnt seen them live since Leroi left this world. He was so much of the soul of this band for me.
Definately not the only one. This band is like riding a cool.wave, endlessly 🎷🎺🎸🎻🥁
Best #41 in existence.

@@milessawaya5411 that’s a different setting
It’s all LeRoi
My favorite absolutely hands down. I have a hard time listening to any other version
I am personally responsible for at least 5,000 of these views. Absolute perfection! The best version of the best song.
I prefer the Carnegie Hall version with just TIm and Dave myself.
Right there with you on the view count.
Oh, how long have you been going through this now?
That's pretty cool if true 😅
I’ll do 5001 ;)
every human should have to watch this video atleast once in their life.
Agreed

Seventy and counting. May you enjoy every compilation you come across.🍻🍾
The talent on that stage is staggering
LeRoi will always be a legend
He will always be missed!
That sax solo breaks my heart every time.
The finest performance of the finest song.
One of the greatest performances ever recorded. Musical brilliance.
💯
Yes, yes it was.
Exactly
Bamn
Brings me to tears. Damn I miss the original DMB crew. RIP bother.
It is magical and gives me the chills..
LeRoy!!!!! Viva DMB
Miss you Roi. You still give me chills. R.I.P.
Me too!!
I dont think there will ever be a moment in my life when i dont appreciate how beautiful this song is.
The best tenor saxophone solo ever😢😢😢
Miss U LeRoi
Dmb made some of the greatest music to ever be made on this planet. Thank God for giving us these great musicians
You were amazing Roi.
There is no way I will ever hear this version and not be transported back to amazing memories.
That is so nice to read
George Fleming
I have that same nostalgic attachment to Two Step from their Piedmont Park show in Atlanta.
I wonder how she's doing these days... Amazing girl.
Thank You, J.
Indeed
Good times
No cellphones in sight. What a good time to be alive.
Cellphones aren't all that bad. It's a trinket what you record🤗
...21 years ago... I remember seeing this on PBS and going crazy
But back then, it was people bullshitting and socializing during a great set of Dave songs. It was equally annoying.
Don't know what you got till it's gone ☹😣🤯🤬🤮🤫🤐✌
It was actually pretty shitty
This is a perfect example of why it’s so important for artists to play actual instruments. Music is dynamic and imperfect. That’s what makes it so appealing. Going to a concert in April. Milan Italy. Can’t wait
Beautifully said 💜
Oh LeRoi. It’s so good seeing you. This is one of my favorite Dave songs. Pure chills.
Take me back to this time please. 🙏🏼 We didn’t know how good it was.
Not many songs can get me to vibe for a full 8 minutes, but this I'd listen to on repeat for days
They had no idea at the time what a masterpiece this song is. Just pure talent from the good ole DMB.
This is a masterpiece indeed. I love this live version of this song 💖
Agreed
You see him drop the stick, but you don't HEAR him drop the stick. Always loved that moment. Carter just keeps groovin' along.
As a happily chronic appreciator of music, I must say this group of musicians at this time in history approached the supernatural.
Youre not kidding..

Yes! DMB was the soundtrack to my college life! He and Tim actually played a show at my little KY college. I don’t remember ever being so excited for anything in my life. Seeing Dave live has always been such an amazing, soul renewing experience. I’ll see him any chance I can get.
Yes, yes it was.
Agree. I was lucky to live in Richmond and see them as they went from Trax to the Flood Zone, Brown’s Island and Dave live at SBC and then on to national audiences. Really didn’t understand at the time what a wonderful moment in time it was but so appreciative now.
My love for this song is unexplainable
RIP LE ROI... Brother was legendary.....

Same. I love Strings! 💞
I was at the show. so good. I was 27. Now I'm scared of the uncertainty in this world.
You’ll be fine, but the future won’t.
There were a lot of gorgeous girls at this show, weren't they? Do you recognize any?
We're all afraid of the uncertainty, especially now. Love someone, and try to do good each day. RIP Leroy. Can't wait till i can go to a DMB concert and we can ALL get back to some normalcy of some type. Stay well!

Another great one for LeRoi, the best of what's around Red Rocks! He was incredible!
Agreed.
You said it perfectly.. I can't watch this without tears in my eyes
Everytime I listen to this, I get goosebumps. Leroi was the greatest.

It's amazing how much stamina these guys have for just one song and don't even need a break. Such a insane talent right here.
They just keep going n going. Good thing we never want it to end anyway 😊
Yes, yes it is.
The 7:49 mark kills me, the golden years of DMB.
This must be one of the most magic performances ever. Gets me every. single. time.

You should tell them

The world doesn’t know what it lost when Roi passed away. The fans know.
💔
No one can replace Roi. DMB will never be the same.

He made the band.
Roi was Epsteined. Huge loss to DMB 💔
Dave was the soundtrack to so many good and bad days during my high school and even college years. #41 never gets old.

If you don't have goosebumps at 7:49 you have no soul. That is the definition of climax. 8:35 they let you back down from that wild ride.
For sure.
When Leroi comes back in at 5:18 it all turns to gold.
I can’t imagine a better time to be alive than to listen to this song. The beauty of it is incredible.
That beautiful saxaphone solo at 5:17 is my favorite of all time. Thank you Roi. That was masterful.
Perfection is the only word for this
Exactly! You don't get better DMB then this. The band in it's prime and all original members..
This is unbelievable
Definetly the song I listened the most in my life... Carter is a god and this is the most beautiful solo Leroi ever performed live...
In my Top 5 ever. Amazing song.
Remembering you Leroi...have 20 layers of love for this band.......
this is the most beautiful thing i have heard. Leroy, i miss you everyday, your talent was magic
Funny how such songs transport you to a different time....I love where this one takes me❤❤
Older sister died a couple years ago, don’t even know if this was her favorite song but she loved DMB for a time.
The Dave Mathews band got me threw NTC, and my deployment to Iraq. We had so much good music back then!!!!
