The best things to have for an ATV/Quad is a light duty winch, like those at Canadian Tire or Bass Pro, as well as traction plates. You'd never get stuck again!

Taras it's safer to have the straps closer to the ground so it doesn't strain the tree as much and hooking the strap would be better on a tow hook than the cable
You can tie a rope on a tree and put the other end around your drive tire, so when the tire spins it starts wrapping around the tire, pulling you forward.
I've seen people using these straps to compress their springs while working with suspension struts while a decent pair of cheap spring compressors cost about 20 bucks a pair :O
