      idk about no haters. I wanted to use it, but between the older kernel and Cinnamon desktop it was not suitable for gaming for me. Fedora solves both problems without much of a usability hit.

    Actually, on my hardware LMDE 6 is noticeably faster and snappier than the classic Mint 21.3.
    Could it be due to the newer kernel at LMDE 6?

    • @AverageNerdTalks
      @AverageNerdTalks  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I could be wrong but I believe LMDE uses kernel 6.1? The Edge ISO for Mint uses 6.5 so if you tried Mint Edge, then it probably wasn't the kernel. Default Mint uses 5.15 which is terribly old so that could be the reason for performance issues.
      In general though, I've found LMDE to be faster than classic Mint. But, I would still be wary of recommending it to new users.

    • @Belsen85
      @Belsen85 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AverageNerdTalks yes, I used the 5.15 version Mint.

      I have LM 21.3. ON my brand new ultra modern PC I had to change from 5.15 series kernels to 6.1 series (current is 6.1.0-1036-oem) and it all works damn well.... plug and play. ON my prehistoric PC (Pentium) the 5.15 series works well. Using the older kernel on the modern PC, some of the comm's didn't work. I think Linux Mint now has an EDGE download for modern PC's..... I got into this before that was available, which is why I had to manually do the kernel change/upgrade. Both PC's work well and are snappy in response. So, Check your kernel. Upgrade the kernel or re-install using EDGE... whatever feels good. I believe that LMDE 6 uses the 6.1 or 6.5 series kernel.... but I am unsure.

    Nice presentation. I use Linux Mint (along with some other distros) but still use Windows to a large extent. Of all the Linux distributions including Ubuntu, I've found Linux Mint to be the most straightforward and user-friendly of them all. A distribution that just works and requires the least amount of maintenance. The developers have done an excellent job in my opinion. I wasn't aware of the Cinnamon (Edge ISO) Edition. I don't have the latest hardware but I like that it contains the latest kernel.

    I used Fedora for over 20 years. For the last two, I've run Mint. Why? Because I got tired of Fedora nuking itself with updates and doing radical things every so often that completely breaks stuff for the end user. I did my fair share of IT work but recently with the adoption of Wayland, it became untenable for me to use and I don't recommend it anymore. Mint was a nice, refreshing approach that focuses on functionality and stability first. That approach is working well and over 2 years later I'm on the same installation. I've successfully upgraded from 20.3 all the way through the current 21.3. I do a wide variety of tasks. Everything from Spreadsheets to advanced low latency audio production and gaming. Mint has enabled me to do all of that. Without the controversy and instability that most other distros tend to have when doing that. Sure, there may be "feature rich" distros out there, but good luck keeping them running without issues for more than 6 months. Mint is one of the few distros that I've used that has done that. All the while accepting my customizations and modifications for my tasks.

    I'd subscribe, but you're at 420 subs, and I don't want to be the one that ruins that.

      I Have partitioned my hard drive. I run Windows and Linux from the same drive. 1 drive, 2 O/S's... no problem. This is common. Search the internet for more info.
      One big important rule... if you are putting windows on it, install it first, then install other O/S's. IF you are putting a few Linux O/S's on a disk, it doesn't matter. You can install them in any order.
