Saving someone's memories with a loved one is definitely something I want to share in. My father has been gone 12 years. Anything I could do to save anything that is great memories with him is well worth it my friend.
Triely amazing how good that truck looks and sounds. Your right, some vehicles just scream out ' I'm worth saving' damn the cost...seems to nice to just let it go into that good night.
That was a 5k price tag upgrade in a flipper's pov. It's was hard work but so much worth it. Just wow! 80's Dodge Ram's have a special place in my heart. In probably almost all of this channel viewers too. Square body who? Hahaha 😂
Sentimental value beats $$$ value hands down everytime. Glad that honest little pickup is getting another chance. It turned out to be much better than I was thinking it could. Good work.
Awesome to see this one! I am currently working on my father in law's '84 D150 Royal SE. Learning a lot from you as my son and I get it road worthy again.
Can't wait to see more of this project! I have an almost identical 86 D150 Royal SE that I've been working on. My lean burn computer is still running though :D I'd like to hear your thoughts about replacing the carb with a 4bbl and what is involved with that project. I did complete the headlight relay upgrade you suggested in past videos though, thank you for your previous videos on the subject. Love the channel, thank you!
I knew you’d get it to run! It’s great that Steven is getting his dad’s truck back in roadworthy condition again. I totally agree with you on the sentimental value of it. I’m currently getting my mom’s 1974 ‘Cuda restored for that reason, it’s been in the family since 1986.
Jamie got to see more of this 1986!! Two July's ago, I purchased a 1986 std cab, 8 ft box!! 360, with 4 barrel. 116k. Runs great!! Basically, rust free! It was rust proofed!! In NW Ohio!! I live in Michigan!! Paid less than $4k. Got a buddy, that a body man, that will be cleaning up the minor rust this winter!! Keep saving those Dodge's!!
My dad was a Ford man and when he checked out 3 years ago I inherited his 05 crown Victoria. It was the only car he kept for any amount of time. I never had any interest in owning a big Ford but I'm thankful every day to have his car. I've grown attached to her and will never sell her. That truck is in remarkable condition after 17 years parked in the woods. I would definitely make her roadworthy and pretty. 78 was the first year for a tilt wheel in a Dodge truck and mine has one. They made a big deal of it but it's still a lousy gm part

As crazy as Mopar car prices have been for the last 20+ years, it's nuts to see the trucks get so little love. Mopar trucks have always had the most style. Good for you for saving this one. Even w/o the backstory, it's a more than worthy project. Living in MN, a rust free 38 year old ANYTHING is a worthy project.
A good friend of mine had an '87 D100 in high school. Was a complete pile with a 318 that couldn't spin them in the rain, a transmission that had no reverse and none of the gear linkage was set up properly, and a body so full of rust the bed bounced going down the road. But it had glass packs under the doors and stripes on the hood and I wanted it enough I tried to buy it from him for $300 before my dad said no way.. I want one. Maybe someday. Speaking of dad owned trucks, I'm glad I never got that Dodge because I wouldn't have been able to bring home the 95 F-150 that my dad owned for a couple of years when I was a kid. It's currently rotting away in my backyard, but the dream is there.
Your sentament about sentamentality hits me where I live mate. I feel exactly the same. There is no hope of ever finding my dad's tin grille Dodges, but that won't stop me from getting one and building it in tribute. Not just for cruises, but for throwing the tn boat in and going fishing now and then. That's worth something. One day I'll be heading to the lake looking out over that irdbath hood, and thinking about him. I'd love to see more of this build. (and 70's trucks of course!) Thanks.
You're awesome Jamie. We bring back old cars & trucks at my uncle's shop. I totally understand what you go through just to get it to turn over no less clean out the 10 plus years of mice nesting in the engine and heating systems
I can't help rather liking it. I had a Dakota I put over 300000 miles on and had 15 years and it does feel sentimental. It runs pretty well considering.
My '74 Dodge D200 club cab has similar story, though it only sat for 10 years before bringing her back to life, still serves well as a work truck! Enjoyed your comments too.
I was lucky enough to get my dad's little black GMC S-15, I put a set of Corvette ralley's on it with the flat 67 caps and it was such a sharp little truck, I was planning on keeping it the rest of my day's but a couple deers at 65 miles per hour decided otherwise. 🤬 Nice old Dodge! Hope with the sentimental value he gets to keep it and enjoy for years to come!👍
I greatly enjoyed the video. There are few if any videos of a guy cranking on a truck for seven minutes and then washing said truck that I would consider entertaining. But you Jamie are an entertainer of the highest order...glad you got it running.
It was awesome to see you get this truck up and running again. I wish I had the last vehicle my father owned before he passed away, which was a 1977 Dodge D100/150 with a cap, 318 V-8, and automatic transmission.
We need a T-shirt that says "Chipmunk House Nut Bits Removal Service". I seem to have this curse wherein every car I sell runs in to some sort of tragedy. My Honda that I built in high school got run out of oil and blowed up. My Swinger absolutely vanished. My Lebaron completely vanished. My New Yorker had her 440 removed and the rest of the car destroyed. My Valiant had a partial restoration began, abandoned and then parted out. My Daytona seems to have suffered some sort of problem - the dude who bought it recently contacted me saying it won't run anymore.... and my old man's '80 GMC 4x4 Steppy had a restoration started, then a divorce happened and as of last report - it's a collection of parts and oxide that only resembles a truck.
My dad was diagnosed with a slow growing cancer last year and then we almost lost him to heart failure. He had a double valve replacement. I'm thankful everyday that he's still here. He gave me my love of Mopars and my daily driver is his old 2003 Dakota. I think I'll hang on to it for a while.

That was an amazing resurrection! Going from stuck and full of moss and gunk to running pretty well and looking not half bad, that's a win. I actually like it, it would be great just as a beater truck to do trucky things when needed.
Jamie! You are the Man! Ive got a 89 W150 with a tilt column and a burnt/molten electrical plug on an, that i was not able to find online. Now that i looked for a GM Style Tiltet column Plug, i think i might sort that out! Thank you so much! Greetings from a German Fan. Tom
I'm crazy enough to do this kinda project.. I just need a garage and tools.. I got endless amount of time and will to fix anything lol Winters are long and dark here at north
I had an 86 dodge van with a 318 and being a carpenter it made me a lot of money and the best part anytime I had to work on the motor I was inside love the dog house
That's a neat truck and an impressive re-awakening! Its nice to see one in such decent condition overall. I still miss my 1990 W250 Club Cab Long Bed, silver over grey, 360 and OD automatic. My daily driver for more than 12 years. No way to keep it once we got another vehicle. We inherited many things to remember our parents by, just not their cars. If I could get one back one it would be the 1969 Custom Suburban that was Mom's daily driver, school car, our vacation car all over the western US... But I'd take my Dad's last truck, a '77 GMC dually, even though its a glorified chevy (gag).
Was never a Dodge fan til I found your channel. I enjoy the content especially truck stuff 😎😁 hope to see more on this truck eventually I'd like to find a old Dodge camper special 70s model and put my truck camper on it
Good going on that truck’s viability . A friend of mine used to own and drive a 1985 Dodge with 318 -2bbl. With Automatic,he drove that thing for years.
Would any electric car be the same as this truck after 17 years in the woods? What is sustainability again? Is there a Dead Tesla Garage channel? Thanks for sharing, Jamie.
My pops 85 d250 360 4bbl truck went to a good home where I visit it from time to time. It was in similar shape, the new owner is slowly but surely restifying it. My 86 D150 is rusting in pieces somewhere.
I love this channel! I have the same kind of truck that's been sitting for about 5 years with the same exact issues. Only I bought a running 1966 273 and a disassembled 318 off of marketplace and planning to make the best engine that I can out of a combination of them. As mine was seized Beyond any hope among other issues. I've actually thought about going back to the points distributor as well😁👍
Awesome! Points solve the problem pretty easily. And there is definitely a level of satisfaction in deleting a computer in favor of the simplest mechanical device that trigger a spark imaginable. Thank you! And good luck with your project.
I really like this truck. With a few tidys, I'd drive it and enjoy it. It's kinda like the 300. Not worth a lot in dollars, but cool in its own right. It's totally worth saving.
Just subscribed to your channel. Happy to see an 80’s Dodge truck video. I bought an 87 D150 in May. It has taken me some time to figure things out as this is my first Dodge pickup. I replaced the standard carb with a Holley 2300 style carb and a Mr Gasket adapter plate. I also just discovered the ignition system you described. I would love to swap out the distributor for a more traditional style. The idle is all over the road. I assume it’s the brain box in the fender. Anyway, l liked the video. Hope to see more.
My 84 B350 had sat around 7 years when I got it, it had one cylinder not contributing for a little while but it eventually came back. I replaced everything but the brake pedal and none of the methods worked to get all the air out but driving it for a few days did the trick. I thought I had an oddball steering column because of the GM ignition switch, it has tilt. The blue smoke reminded me of my old 1997 B3500 cargo van with just short of 300,000 miles on the Magnum 5.9.
I'm new to your channel and found you because of my battles with a 1977 Dodge 400 motorhome. I hate Mopars right now but I love your channel! Hey look a crazy person. He's probably looking at you saying the same thing.
Pretty impressive it runs that well and cleaned up pretty well. I had one of those Holley carbs on a 318. It started and idled nice but had a bad dead spot. It had no ported vacuum port. I pulled it apart, cleaned passages and put a kit in it. Still nothing at the advance port or what I assumed was the advance port. Probably due to being a lean burn carb and the computer controlling the timing. Knowing what I no now, I would gone manifold vacuum. I rebuilt the BBD off my other blown up 318 to replace it, constant needle and seat sticking. A reman BBD ran so much better. It did burn a bunch of oil too.
Yes i did enjoy it. I think its great that you are doing this for the owner. And yes you are rt that we just throw things away today. Luckily i got my dads van when he passed in 2010. Its driveable and in good condition. So everytime i drive it i think of him because he drove it. I am a dodge person but is a che che chevy gmc safari 99 with only 100k on it
48:33 throttle cable still listed on RockAuto, one is like $15 the other is $17, they're both 26.75" long, interchange is pretty much all 318/360 80-87 D/W Series trucks and Ramchargers and they even sell the 29.25 inch long Slant Six truck cables (but they cost more because...longer) and the later model 50 inch long TBI engine cables (and, you guessed it, they cost even MORE money)
I prefer to use Kroil. I didn't think you were getting this one running....I am surprised. That thing is 50 lbs lighter since you washed it. Even if I was emotionally attached to that truck I would only do the bare minimum to get it on the road. Keep up the good work.
Saved another from the scrap heap. I couldn't agree more about this disposable society. They claim to be for the environment but refuse to be seen using anything more than a year or two years old.

Yes please! More 86 truck videos.
Blues Brothers refference APPRERCITATED!!!
I love those 1st gens...that topper is sweet too
What a good little truck ,it wants to live needs backyard TLC!
Ahhh, the lean burn! I remember them from the 70s, and in the words of AL Bundy, "Run Fast, Run Far"
Love the Blues Brothers reference!
I had an 86 dodge van with a 318 and being a carpenter it made me a lot of money and the best part anytime I had to work on the motor I was inside love the dog house
Yes! Certain operations on vans are maddening. But carb and ignition work are usually pretty nice.
I enjoy the content especially truck stuff 😎😁 hope to see more on this truck eventually I'd like to find a old Dodge camper special 70s model and put my truck camper on it
Thank you! Yeah, that sounds sweet. I’ll have something like that some day.
Good going on that truck’s viability . A friend of mine used to own and drive a 1985 Dodge with 318 -2bbl. With Automatic,he drove that thing for years.
thank you sir.
dads are bad ass.
That’s awesome Jamie. Seams to run nice to….
Would any electric car be the same as this truck after 17 years in the woods? What is sustainability again? Is there a Dead Tesla Garage channel? Thanks for sharing, Jamie.
Absolutely not… yeah, it’s probably obvious that I’m on your side of thinking on that one. Thanks!
My pops 85 d250 360 4bbl truck went to a good home where I visit it from time to time. It was in similar shape, the new owner is slowly but surely restifying it. My 86 D150 is rusting in pieces somewhere.
That’s a sweet truck. I ought to get around to fixing my grandpas ranger
Jamie, I had 3 square body Fords and a Square Body Suburban. Honestly my 91 D150 is a better truck. These trucks deserve to be saved.
I really like this truck. With a few tidys, I'd drive it and enjoy it. It's kinda like the 300. Not worth a lot in dollars, but cool in its own right. It's totally worth saving.
I definitely agree. I know exactly what I would do with it.
That was quite the transformation!!
I'm having unknown causation flashbacks looking at that interior. Just like my old 87.
Nice Truck!
Jamie, it looks like my first truck. Pulled my hair out, trying to keep it running
I'm new to your channel and found you because of my battles with a 1977 Dodge 400 motorhome. I hate Mopars right now but I love your channel! Hey look a crazy person. He's probably looking at you saying the same thing.
Sometimes I *also* hate Mopars 😅 thank you.
Never knew the GM tilt wheel factoid. Neat to see all the options neither of my poverty-spec trucks have.
We’re on it. Haha.
I hope your back isn't too messed up.
Feeling fine now. Lived to ruin it again another day.
I prefer to use Kroil. I didn't think you were getting this one running....I am surprised. That thing is 50 lbs lighter since you washed it. Even if I was emotionally attached to that truck I would only do the bare minimum to get it on the road. Keep up the good work.
Kroil is *awesome* - and expensive. I keep a can around here just for an occasional smell. There isn’t enough left to actually use.
Great! 😉👍
Blues Brothers reverence. 😊
Just so much red! But! Those pickups are so much fun
You have no idea how hard it is to find rustless trucks where I live.
A lot of GOOVY going on with this truck
Wow that red is gorgeous while wet
That truck is solid
Great truck, and SE stands for special edition equipped with every option
I think I was making a joke about the “Royal SE” model name. Believe it or not, I’m familiar.
Saved another from the scrap heap. I couldn't agree more about this disposable society. They claim to be for the environment but refuse to be seen using anything more than a year or two years old.
