- The great first movement of Paul Mealor's four part Stabat Mater for choir and orchestra, here sung by the Tenebrae choir directed by Nigel Short. This movement is a capella.
From the Decca records album A Tender Light (which I strongly suggest you purchase), available on Amazon and in stores.
Needless to say I own nothing of this music, etc.
It's very refreshing to find a composer that values a strong bass line. Russian choral music especially, has modulated my taste down about 3 octaves. Now, so many more overtones to enjoy!
Mealor loves those Bass 2's!
That bass.
Introspective and deep music
This is nothing less than exquisite perfection ! Everyone one involved should feel very proud !
When I am listening to the bass line , i understand I am merely a a baryton
Or bass 3's in this case. My choir is singing this right now, really tight harmonies in the bass line. Lowest note is Bb1.
Bb1 is something like "standard" in Mealor's pieces :) I love those notes, however it depends from the day if I can sign it like a charm or it is a challenge :)
Someone wrote that earlier - yes, it is very frustrating how few composer use real basses. Most pieces are usually written for baritones and rather for those higher ones :(
Beautiful. Wonderful work from the basses. Peacock and Savage I believe?
Only saw this now! Peacock and Will Gaunt at least.
Peacock and Savage for sure. Perhaps also Jimmy Holliday, who is one of their strong low basses.
I just discovered this beautiful Russian- sounding piece, a month or 2 ago, but have listened to it many times since. IMO it ranks right up there with Lauridson's "o Magnum Mysterium, though the TH-cam views may not reflect that.
Lauridsen. Yes Lauridsen is mesmerizing also.
Très très beau . Merci .
What a excellent video. Thanks for the work you put into it! Keep it up :) :)
Absolutely beautiful and moving music. Where is the Church, which is equally beautiful?
Yes, where is this church?
This is the Basilica of St. Louis in St. Louis, MO.

Anyone know what these lyrics are?
