I’m so happy you covered this game Jirard. The House of the Dead games have given me so much enjoyment over the years, but even I must admit there’s something truly special about 2. The combination of fun action and over the top cheesiness makes it such a great title, and with it also came Goldman, a bargain bin villain who could give the great Albert Wesker a run for his money with delightfully cringey dialogue and dialed up to 11 megalomania. I can’t wait to see what you cover next on the channel.

Are you sure? I distinctly remember seeing the year 1998 in the intro of the Sega Dreamcast port. I haven't played HOTD2 in a very, very long time but I have owned it since the day it launched on the Dreamcast 9/9/99. That was an amazing time to be alive. It was a 200 dollar console that could punch so far above its weight class it was ridiculous. It ran toe-to-toe with the best gaming PC's of the time...at least for the first 6 months.
Both my roommate and I (first time living without parents) each bought Sega Dreamcasts the day it launched. We wound up buying 10 games that first day (5 each) and only had two duplicates *Soul Caliber and NFL2K. We each picked up 3 controllers as well which worked great as we threw a huge party that night that ended up consuming the entire weekend.
Addendum- You might be wondering- Why would you buy two of the same game for the same household long before that became a requirement? He preordered his Dreamcast from EB and I from Toy's R' Us. We both picked them up after work...in hindsight I should have rang his cell and coordinated things a bit better but it did enable everyone to enjoy both 2K and Soul Caliber a lot more than if we only had one of each (8 playing NFL 2K at once and 4 playing Soul Caliber at once). Yes, it was damn cool and something I have replicated in my home today on a much grander scale with my fiancee who is a gamer like me.

I was hyped to get this on Dreamcast and I tried really hard to like it, but Sega never released an official light gun, and none of the 3rd party ones ever came close to being accurate enough for me to get any further than the first few stages. This was the experience of every Dreamcast owner I knew at the time and have known since. The first thing anyone says when House of the Dead 2 gets mentioned is how the light guns were all so bad you couldn't play the game once it started requiring accuracy.

The Magician Boss theme song, at some period of time, was me, my brother and my cousins theme song for our Nokia cellphone (we recorded it and used it as ringtone). Such a badass theme song!

If you don't mind me saying so Jirard, you rock the buzzed head/full beard look.
As for the game, definitely one of my favourites too. Always stocked to find an arcade machine of this, particularly in sega's Playdium where on some days you could get a pass that was infinite credits for a flat rate for the night. Good times. Especially since it meant you could dual wield if the machine wasn't busy, always a treat.

You know, up until this video I hadn't seen any footage of the Wii version. It's surprising how much worse than the Dreamcast version it looks! Textures are blurrier, the game's colors aren't as sharp... But the game still holds every ounce of its charm. It's amazing, isn't it?
Fantastic video!! I loved it! Thank you for sharing your story with us!

Jirard, my dad also had heart surgery when I was a kid. Its terrifying. One of the earliest memoires I have of my dad (who also hated video games) was playing a random zombie horror game that we got from Block Buster.

If I remember correctly HOTD2 takes place in 1998. It was released in 1998 for the Sega Dreamcast in Japan and here in the US on 9/9/99. I know about the latter date as it was one of the many games my roommate and I purchased the day the Dreamcast dropped. That was a fun day which led us both to call into work and invite a boatload of people to our apartment for some epic Dreamcast playing. It turned into a 3 day weekend for us and was well worth it.
Since we each bought our own Dreamcast we had both setup in the living room. 8 controllers, 10 games between us, with only two duplicates (Soul Caliber and NFL2K) it was a blast. We mostly ran 4 man NFL2K matches and Soul Caliber tourneys all night with some HOTD2 scattered in there for good measure.

House of the Dead gave me nightmares bout 18 years ago. House of the Dead 2 only re-enforced them. Now *God where have these gone!?* House of the Dead will forever be a classic in the same vain as The Room 👌

I desperately want to see _The Room of the Dead,_ with the main characters being filled by the cast of _The Room._
"The chaos in the city is increasing!"
      "A-hhhhhhha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha. What a story!"

Loved playing the arcade version of this at the movie theatre, got the Japanese version of the first game on my Saturn. And got the remaster of the first game on switch, one of my most hyped releases of the year. Would love to see a remaster of HOTD2 to fallow up.

The formula is simple: SEGA + Zombies = Comedy Gold.
My personal favorite HotD2 moment was the very first time I re-encountered Magician Type 0, and realized they also brought back his (excellent top-grade S-tier) boss theme. I didn't know it was possible to be happy in THAT way before then.
