As someone who played football for a bit my recommendation is don't. Unless you have a realistic chance of making it pro then I get it that is a lot of money to turn down, especially if you grew up poor. Everybody I know has some sort of life long injury unless they were a kicker. I still occasionally see flashes of light 20 years later. I consider myself lucky. I am not in pain.
