I think the craziest thing about this episode is when Butters puts up even a minor resistance toward his father, all of a sudden Stephen loses that bass in his voice and has no idea how to respond. The moment that Butters stops being a victim, his bully father loses power over him. Even if it is for silly reasons.
Honestly, after granma scotch was introduced. I feel like Butters' dad emulates how Granma parented him(abusive). Just like how Butters emulates his own dad during the robot cartman episode. "Spanking" the robot when it misbehaved and how Butters mimics the language and attitude of other people around him. You can also see how similar the two are during the casino episode where both Butters and his dad thought about a dog parade to gather funds. Like if Butters were to become a parent, he'd be like his father unless intervention happens while he is still growing up. That or his wife isn't like his mother Linda.
@@AoiFlame02 thats actually a really good observation, never thought about it that way but it makes sense. It happens in real life too, they say most abusers were, themselves, abused. I guess it's Matt and Treys way of saying somebody down that line has to break the cycle, not pass down their own trauma onto their kids. Pretty deep.
I just realised that in the pantry, H is directly above N - chances are the Nestle Quik IS in the right place, Stephen wasn't looking where he grabbed, and just blame Butters over it; I wouldn't be surprised.
This episode actually aired before the first Twilight movie even came out. Of course the books had been out for awhile, but Matt and Trey made a pretty good prediction with how pervasive the vampire fad would get.
Butters the only one not a poser he try to live that life, being in darkness, not eating food and trying to feed on someone else even tho it was all in the mind
exactly! he didn't want to wallow in self-pity like all the other goth kids. he wanted to embrace his inner darkness and use it to make himself stronger so he could stand up to all the mean people in his life lol

In the outtake for Cheech y Chong's "Up In Smoke" instead of Chong pulling out the big joint, Cheech pulled it out. He said he mixed the marijuana with Hamburger Helper, and said "You Get High without the Munchies".
What's that? You say the vamp kids are just posers? I dunno, that might be a bit much... So next goth kids episode is season 17, episode 4, "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers". Yes, that is what it's called.
This was the closest I seen a show have goth vs emo. Wasn’t feeling the kids called vamps though. Maybe cause I never had any vamp kids back in school, but did got emo friends who acted like the vamp kids, especially obsessing on vampires during the Twilight craze before jumping to furries
There's a lot of overlap between the vamp and emo things, and both have been called mall goth and were slightly too interested in Twilight. Evanescence are vamp, Paramore are emo, both were on the soundtrack.
Goths have a weird relationship with Hot Topic. It's sometimes viewed as a cash grab, that appropriates our style for poseurs (although goth doesn't own the aesthetic, and elements were around well before us. Ironically, there is a vampire subculture that popped up before goth in the 70s), and has almost no band shirts for us. But until fairly recently, it was the only place to get makeup and stuff.
You've got to check out an episode where the Goths and Vamp kids team up to fight the emos. There is one part where a certain cameo got me EXPLODING in laughter. I'm not gonna spoil it for you.
When I started watching South Park butter's parents are the worst parents of all time. Like honestly, if you're going to treat your kid like that, why are you even a parent? As a future parent for me, I will always treat my kids with love and respect. Sure if they do something wrong I will talk to them. But I'm not going to deal with butter's dad did because that's just fucking wild.
"per se" == Vamp kid Any time I hear someone say "per se" now, I mentally tag them as a vamp kid. Doesn't matter if they are over 50 years old, vamp kid... :)
I don't really think he grabbed the wrong thing without looking. Stephen seems like the kind of guy to intentionally put hamburger helper in his milk to make a point.
In my school the Goths were kinda hard. They did lots of crazy shit 14 taking parents cars for joy rides. Always had alcohol and weed and cigs. They were the odd cool badass kids. ...Oh and that 90's goth girl is still kryptonite to me.
Being in the scene for a sorta long time, I've found that those are the ones who most often age out. The ones I've watched grow from teens at the all ages nights into people in their 30s are often geeks, music nerds, professional artists, etc.
What I always loved about this episode is how patient the goth kids are. They hate society so much, but they are always willing to take the time to explain to people what they are about and what separates them from vamp kids in this case and emo kids in the next case. They don't even do it for recognition or anything, it's because people keep mistaking them for something they're not, when all they want is to be left the hell alone.
No episode suggestions!?! I'm going to win!! lol ok then Eat, Pray, Queef (poor Butters) or Major Boobage or Make Love, not Warcraft!! Except change those to or's to and's! :D
Stephen: Butters! I told you never to enter Ganon's boss room without silver arrows! You are grounded, mister! Butters: But I thought the game over screen was punishment enough!
What is crazy is, I knew kids like this that actually drank blood. They would squeeze raw hamburger meat into a cup and pass it around. Somehow none of them got sick and once the fad passed, they all quit. Now the few I talk to have normal successful lives. Anyway kids do dumb things.
Steven Stotch is probably the worst parent I’ve ever seen in any media ever, but credit to the writing because they do such a great job at making him surreal and wrong, and Butters can’t do anything about it…
You should really review the South park movie as a 3 parter. It gives a lot of context to a lot of the episodes you already covered. The ending alone makes it worth the watch
