En el North Sea Jazz Festival 2003... Si alguien tiene el concierto completo o la parte en que tocan "Trance Dance" le agradeceria que me la pasara o la subiera.
What a performance! I love how all the band members still retain a bit of their 80's soul. Chick still has a calculator watch and still sticks with the KX5, Eric has had the same haircut since '85, Weckl retains the mullet, and the music hasn't changed it's only become tighter. Love it!
For those interested, we have the solo trancripton for Eric Marienthals solo taken from this live perfomance on our TH-cam channel, with a downloadable PDF link
i just hope no one on this thread is cutting these guys down. whether u like like the genre or not, what they are doing...in this relaxed manner...smiling...soloing over those changes & improvising at this level....with kicks....is just amazing & beautiful.
Obviously this guy is a heavy weight pro bassist. But still...the pressure of sitting in for John.....with Chick and the band. Wow. I'd be nervous as shit.
haha it's all good. I got all excited when it came up and then it just stopped lol...thanks for the video though. Everyone here does such a great job...and they have so much fun doing it. Incredible music
Very discouraging for me to hear such a performance.))) I mean how much do you have to practice to get there. These guys are flying so hi. Two thumbs up!!!
My sentiments exactly. I'm an amateur guitarist, playing at a respectable level for many years. Decided to change my entire technique the to Gambale method about 25 years ago. It's a wonderful technique...but you can never stop practicing it.
Amazing moment at 2:50. Chick mimics and continues the bass player`s solo. Bass player notices and turns to Chick, probably smiling, but cant see because of the camera angle.
Ezt a nótát leszedtem....megtanultam, de sohasem tudtam zenekarral előadni. Viszont rengeteget tanultam belőle. A bandát 1986 -ban láttam élőben a Sportcsarnokban.Alig tudtam kimenni a csarnokból az előadás végén. Akkor láttam először Eric Marienthalt, John Patituccit, Scott Hendersont és Dave Wackl -t. Ők határozták meg a fusion jazz -hez való viszonyomat ami azóta is viszonyítási alap számomra.
At 1:23 Chick gives a "slight stir in the head" to express the execution of a BEND. Sensational !! His greatest "spasm" was that I noticed fpi at 1:22, and then the BEND. A solo with a level of complexity of this and he barely moves ... Where I saw very little the musician give "ornamental jumps" during the execution !! I think that's fantastic. Ready. I said lol
I'm a guitarist, and have studied Frank's method for over 20 years....and still listen carefully to great sax playing like this and think, "how can I emulate this"? I've watched this solo at least a hundred times and it always amazes me.
i don't want to deny that they are great musicians. but i get very nervous by this kind of music. i can't listen to it for very long. for my ears and brain it's too much to comprehend. does anyone have the same problem with this kind of jazz?
Mike pope is great. I watched a show in the conference room in a hotel with mike, victor Wooten, Steve bailey, mike stern, and Greg bissonnette. It was awesome! Talked to mike out in the parking lot afterwards. He was drinking a bunch of mini bottles lol. Idk if he just had a pocket full of them or what
@Daggerhart: Chick Corea's Elektric Band (Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, Mike Pope, Eric Marienthal, Franck Gambale). Someone put it on bittorent. Search for "Chick Corea Elektric Band - Live at North Sea Jazz 2003", maybe it is still available.
Muito bom.. Um dia quando puder passo o concerto deles de 1991 no Porto onde eles incendiaram o coliseu com este Got A Match!! --------------------------------------------- Very good.. Soon as I have time I'll put here their show on 1991 at Porto Coliseum where their fire up with this Got A Match!!
No, sir, not for a while. I checked Chick's website, doesn't look like there is a planned Elektric Band reunion. Sad, really. The best and most unique fusion band, hands down.
Somehow, you missed the memo, wayyyy back in the late '60's, pal: Fusion is a type of Jazz. It's called Fusion because it's a "fusion" of rock/pop electric instrumentation and styles with the improvisational skills of Jazz. And, if a performance was ever on fire with Jazz's improvisational brilliance, boy, this one is.
Did you even see the post i replied too? This reply is a year old and that post is deleted! I can't remember exactly...but he was bitchin and complaning about weckl somehow, i think he was complaning that Weckl can't play traditional jazz like TW or EJ to name a few! So i replied that this is not really traditional jazz, that's is all! I was not debating that fusion is not jazz or that they don't are related that would be ridiculous! But i'm glad you gave me a free lesson in music history! :)
Just settle your mind, notice how calm these great players are, and tap your toes to the nice straight undercurrent of rhythm -- it's a lot more flowing and relaxed than you're taking it. :)

I just listened to Marienthal's last chorus like a dozen times. I love when this guy really plays.
I'm a guitarist, and have studied Frank's method for over 20 years....and still listen carefully to great sax playing like this and think, "how can I emulate this"? I've watched this solo at least a hundred times and it always amazes me.

...that is mind-boggling...
The guitarists face from 5:06 to 5:10 says it all about Eric's playing! I love this song!
You can get the original studio recording that has this tune on it, it's called "Chick Corea Elektric Band" from 1986. It's on Amazon at least.
Telemachia... You are not alone in that boat brother, there is ALOT of us that feel that way...
Great!!
@Dankma Yeah, i love those subtle musical things!!
Totally agree with you!
Mike Pope on the bass 😎

eric marienthal is a beast!! someone ever just tried to play the theme? it's insane, very difficult fingering... and the solo is awesome!
weckl is unbelievable
excellent
Whoa! The bassist doesn't look at his bass very much. Just a couple of quick glances here and there. Wow!
Yeah, it's a unique jazz fusion type.
I like this song. The main theme is fun to play on the guitar.

the walking Bass 😱
El guitarrista es Frank Gambale, y Eric Marienthal es genial...
I never really got the whole "not clipping your strings" thing like the bassist in this video.
But absolutely amazing song and playing by everyone.
Somehow, you missed the memo, wayyyy back in the late '60's, pal: Fusion is a type of Jazz.

Gotdamn! Sick bass solo. Unbelievable
