    In a real hunting situation a side shot in the ear channel would be a more realistic scenario with the pellet drilling through soft tissue without having to perforate bone, therefore reaching deeper into the brain mass probably resulting in an almost instant kill.

    Great video, man.
    Whenever any of my friends laugh when I tell them I keep air rifles around for home defense, I ask them if I can shoot them in the leg with it...nobody has ever said, “sure!”. The laughing always stops when they see the resulting holes the air guns punch through 2x4’s. A lot of my buddies will allow me to use a taser or pepper spray on them, but none want to get shot with my Benjamin Bulldog. Go figure. 😂

    Squirt a tiny bit of WD40 spray into the air cylinder and try it again,
    If it has the same effect on your GAMO that it did on mine, you will be able to go all the way through the head of the biggest hog and might even be able to go thru the skull and into the brain of the small hog, skull,(placed behind the skull of the big hog), after going completely thru the skull of the large hog...
    I found out by accident when the rifle had sat for a year or more unused and I thought it would be a good idea to lubricate the piston a little before I tried shooting it.
    When I do that the pellet seems to go twice as fast and hit 3 or 4 times as hard; and a little bit of smoke comes out of the barrel like I was shooting a 22 rimfire.

    For anyone still doubting because the "hogs have already been shot" there is now a video on TH-cam of a guy killing a hog at 20 yards with a head shot from a break barrel .177 and it dropped in it's tracks. There's another guy who killed several with a 22cal. So I think it's safe to say at the right distance this is definitely possible. Not really advised on a live hog..but possible. I also saw a video of a guy shooting a 22cal at different skulls from 50 yards (skulls that had not been shot) and it was penetrating everything from raccoon up to black bear skulls every time. The biggest skull was a large cow and it was about 50/50 on either penetrating or cracking the skull depending on where it hit. So yeah..small bore air rifles can definitely kill beyond what most people give them credit for.

  • @ecoovert

    Very interesting video.
    One thing that's perhaps just as important as the depth of the hole, is the diameter of the permanent wound channel. People have survived complete entry and exit shots to the head. In fact, that's not all that uncommon. That's where the 33 foot pounds comes to play. Not only must you penetrate the skull, but you also have to create a significant wound channel. 12.5 foot pounds of energy just probably won't be to accomplish that.
    A 18.14 grain pellet traveling at 880 fps. generating over 30 fpe. just might barely get the job done. Even my Hatsan 125 only generates 32 fpe. with the 18.14 grain JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy pellets. Even those heavy pellets have to be moving at over 890 fps. to achieve that. Now I have gotten those pellets to break the sound barrier while shooting those pellets just after my regular maintenance by putting chamber oil down the chamber. I do this every few hundred shots as recommended. Following this, the first 3 or 4 shots will go super sonic due to dieseling. I have measured nearly 50 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle on those occasions, but you want to limit that to when you do the scheduled maintenance, as doing this often is hard on the pistons in springer's. I will say that until you fire those first few shots after putting those few drops of chamber oil down the chamber, the next shots will go supersonic. No matter how long the gun sets. I suppose I could find some extra heavy Eun Jin .22 Cal, 32.4 Grain pellets to keep the pellets from going supersonic. That would probably be easier on the piston.

    A 177 wadcutter is lethal at 700FPS the duel caliber Beeman is pushing 177 Cal over 1000FPS a little dieseling and we're talking 1300 to 1500 FPS even with 22cal pellets hitting around 1200 to 1400FPS that's going to take down a 400lb hog with a head shot with no problems at all! In a survival situation I'd really would want a 22cal Beeman Duel Cal air rifle for small and big game its amazing what a little oil on the back of a pellet does it makes It just as powerful as a regular 22cal long range bullet believe that because it's a fact!

    In my Benjamin Marauder, the heavy 16 grain Eun Jin (Korean) pellets will penetrate a 2x4 . While I have not taken a hog, I have no doubts it would do fine. Raccoons are easily dispatched with the 10.5 grain Crosman Premiers. My Marauder has a wasteful tune, dropping to 2500 psi after only 10 shots. I get 1080 ft/sec with the Crosman and about 920 with the Eun Jin magnums.

      Keith Jurena sounds like you need a pellet that seats and seals better, I highly recommend the Crosman Premier Dome Copper magnum 10.6gr ....alittle pricey but I think they're worth it especially if your gun is shooting the Crosman Premier already. My .22cal Pcp gets up to 25-30 shots compared to standard lead...but before you try anything I'd oil your lead pellets because anything over 950fps can cause issues...oil keeps the pellets cooled and from leading the barrel

      Nothing is wrong with my rifle other than the tune. It is very accurate but a bit over gassed, just like its owner ;) Yes, the shroud baffles get coated in lead dust quickly. The bore never needs cleaning as accuracy doesn't change. I've driven a 12d nail with a magazine of pellets from 25 yards.

Still my gun gave really big bends in the metal, they look like massive pimples on the backside of the metal. I feel convident about killing a big animal with it (brain /neck shot)

    Except the sculls were already shattered from the previous kill shots. Ive killed raccoons with a 177 head shot from 10” but i wouldn’t try it on a hog. You would be better off with a bolt action 22 with CCI quiets and some higher powered rounds for a backup just incase.

    that was a pretty interesting video but it doesn't really prove a thing you have to see what that will do to a hogshead at distance 20 yards or farther away Hogs not going to let you shoot it at point-blank range in the field you needed to see if the pellet would even penetrate that had it 20 yards it might bounce right off

And the way he did it is a long knife straight to the heart. So don't tell me these fucks heads butcher's knows how to kill hog if they have to finish them off and then hang them. You outta choose the right title to impress everyone because this video really sucks. Now you can get Butthurt if you want but that right there what you just said is totally bullshit.

    I don't think the hog is killed on impact with the .177 fired from a brakebarrel air rifle, death will come surely when the .177 pellet enteres the brain, but the hog will die from the injury caused by the .177 pellet not from the impact, in a survival situation sure but let us nut go on and go about killing hogs with some airguns people. We are causing unnecassary suffering. The little .177 pellet does not have enough hydrostatic shock to lay down such large animals. The animal will die from the braine being injured, as the brain will try and restart the system wich we see as kicking around after being shot, the brain sends its signals to the body resulting in spasmic kicking around. The brain starts to panic because something has compromised it, after the brain after some seconds or even minutes does not succeed in restarting the system, the system fails and shuts down with death as a result. So people please take some time to learn about the tools you are using to remove the living soul of an animal from its carcass. You will want to use the right tool for the job.
    It all has to do with respect for your own life, if you want to et something, you don't want the animal to live it last seconds releasing all kinds of toxic stress hormones into its blood resulting in the meat being not that nutricious as it should be. You will ingest that stress, so killing for survival purpose goes a little deeper than just shooting it and watch it die so you can make dinner. God bless you all.

    the term "Point Blank Range " is generally used as you do Improperly.
    PBR is the range at which you can hold dead center on the vital area of your target and be assured the bullet will hit the vital area
    example on a deer with a vital area 8 inches deep if you hold dead center your bullet must not rise any more than 4 inches above line of sight and your maximum range is the range where you bullet drops to 4 inches below line of sight
    a .30-06 sighted in at 250 yards will yield a point blank range of around 300 yards on deer
    Point Blank Range will vary greatly with Weapon and Calibre, Bullet selection and of course your intended target species

    • @STKO2011
      @STKO2011  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mike Tufts point-blank
      [point-blangk]
      adjective
      aimed or fired straight at the mark especially from close range; direct.

    • @Wildwestwrangler
      @Wildwestwrangler 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Tufts what you're describing is the zero not point blank range

    • @miketufts6506
      @miketufts6506 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No Shmidt, the Zero Range is the range at which your group will be centered on your point of aim
      with Point Blank Range your Point of Aim is the center of the Vital area and includes the entire distance over which that hold will place a bullet in the vitals
      the Vital area of a rabbit is an inch or so which limits your mid range trajectory and bullet drop beyond Zero to half an inch or so
      with a Wood Bison [ like the 1 i shot ] with a vital area of about 24 inches your mid range trajectory can be 12 inches higher than point of aim and your bullet can drop 12 inches below point of aim beyond your zero range to set the maximum point blank range
      as i said with a standard cartridge, comparable top a .30-06 or .308 Win, on deer sized game you can get a Point Blank Range of 300 yards with about a 250 yard zero.
      zeroed for 100 yards your point blank range on deer would be about 205 yards
      the 4 most important factors determining Point Blank Range are
      1/ size of your intended game
      2/ the range at which your rifle is zeroed
      3/ Muzzle Velocity of your cartridge and rifle
      4/ Ballistic coefficient of your chosen bullet
