  • I walk through all the steps to load an operating system on an Orange Pi Zero and connect to it over a local network. This process will let you run Debian or Ubuntu on your Orange Pi at a more affordable price point than the Raspberry Pi models.
    What you need:
    Ethernet cable
Micro SD card (8gb is sufficient)
    Micro USB cable
    USB power supply
Access to your router's admin page (DHCP server) to get the IP of the Orange Pi on your network after you connect it
    Steps:
    1. Download the zip of the image file for Orange Pi: www.armbian.co...
    2. Extract the zip of the file (7-zip on Windows)
    3. Format a Micro SD card with FAT32
    4. Use a tool like Win32DiskImager: sourceforge.ne... to write the contents of the .img file to the Micro SD card
    5. Plug the Micro SD card into the Orange Pi
    6. Plug micro USB cable into the Pi
    7. Connect the micro USB to power
    8. Connect the ethernet cable to your router or switch
    9. Open the router's home page, tplinkwifi.net/ (this may differ based on your router's brand)
    10. Get the IP of the orangepi (should show up by name)
    11. Download PuTTY for Windows - open up a connection to the IP address: root@[IP address]
    12. Go through log on prompts to complete set up
    13. ping google.com to make sure internet to external resources is successful.

I imagine that you can ssh it via wifi after ethernet connection. With all the bot scalpers buying up the raspberry pi its nice having an alternative. The bot scalpers really ruined the raspberry pi.

Curious if it is fast enough for Klipper and Octoprint. Have seen that the "2" version is adequate.
Also curious if independent developers have figured out the proprietary UEFI boot sequence, and are able to customize OS releases.
Would hate to be stuck with Xunlong's OS images, only as long as they care to release them.

    Great video.
Quick question: Why choose Armbian instead of the OrangePi official Linux images?

    I have a question.
After I unpack image onto sd card , and put card into pi ,
can I just hook up the HDMI for some video and boot into Ubuntu to finish
the setup. I never been good with headless commands without a graphics
    server .

Orangepi works better than raspi in my experience, it starts as a 'clone' product but I have less problem coming from it compare to raspi.
My board (OrangePi Lite) with Armbian 21.08.06 Focal as my MySQL data server for my little app from 2019 (minus 3 year in the store house) still running very well today.

Do you know if there is a way to install a pure OS? The images on the Orange PI Ubuntu Server and Debian Server website come with a lot of stuff installed.

In case anybody was wondering for future installers. When he mentions to test by pinging google. Note, the way to stop pinging it CTRL + C.
