iPhone Won't Turn On After Screen Replacement? Here's The Fix!

  • Two Apple experts explain what to do when your iPhone won’t turn on after a screen placement. A lot of the time, this is the result of a botched repair.
However, it could also be a software problem, and it's important to rule that our first. If the software on your iPhone crashed, it may make your iPhone display completely black. Hard reset your iPhone to see if that fixes the problem.
If a hard reset doesn’t work, put your iPhone in DFU mode and try to restore it.

Hard reset on iPhone 8 was necessary for the phone to recognize the newly installed screen. I could tell the device was on because moving the silent button up and down created the vibration affect going to silent usually does. Did a quick up, down, hold lock for about 20 seconds and it reset and screen turned on. Thanks, guys, saved me a trip to the repair guy and my wife was able to be without her phone for less than 12 hours!

Your video helped me! I recently replaced a broken screen on my daughters XR. After the replacement the battery faded away, would not charge and left the phone completely dead. I tries all of the attempts to reboot. You mentioned putting the original part back in. I did that and the phone took a charge. After a full charge, and software update, I put the new screen back in and it all works! The screen company suggested replacement only when the battery is at 20%. This didn’t allow enough battery for the needed software updates after the install. Thanks!

I had great success the first screen I replace but the same day I dropped the phone and broke a ribbon on the new screen. I had to order a new one and this is the one I have power but nothing else not even a charge battery signal will come on. Think I will reseat the cables and see if that will fix it. Thanks alot!😁

Thanks for this great video. I've replaced the screen of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, strictly following the ifixit guide... No issues during repair but the phone was not able to start afterwards. Disconnected everything from logic board again and tried to isolate the problem by connecting one by one (always try to restart in between). It turned out the it doesn't restart only when the OLED connector is attached. Have you ever observed this issue?
Regarding FW I tried everything... DFU repair fails with attached OLED connector. If I disconnect OLED cable it works, but it has no impact (iPhone not turning on with attached OLED cable). Thanks

  • @michaelwest7649

I have replaced at least a dozen screens. I never "test the screen" before re-assembly. It's been months since I replaced a screen and sure enough my next repair is my own iPhone. I've been dragging my feet on this one since December of 2022. Today was the day. I completed the job and felt it went well. Upon testing, I don't have video! The phone does power up because you can take a snapshot of the homescreen and hear the "click". I put the original cracked screen back on and still no video! Panic strikes. "How am I going to get all those QRCodes back?" "It's time to go back to Android!" I say. "But won't you miss AirDrop?" I move my SIM to a spare iPhone just to relax and see if I missed any text messages. I came across your video and the first suggestion on volume UP, volume DOWN, hold the power button saved my bacon. I"m back!! THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I need some expert advice! I recently bought a used iPhone XS Max it was working flawlessly, but me not leaving good alone wanted to see if the battery was the original or a replacement because I wasn’t getting the percentage reading on top of the right hand corner battery 🔋 display. That being said I took the two screws out and using a plastic iPhone pryer I lifted the screen just enough to peek inside, causing no damage whatsoever! I didn’t take the screen completely off I just barely lifted to get a look at the battery. Then assembled it back together and put a new phone case on that was extremely stiff and it got stuck holding the buttons down on both sides for a few minutes until I could get it unstuck. After everything I pushed power to realize it was stuck in the apple 🍎 reboot loop. Nothing is working including volume up/volume down/ power for 20 seconds. I tried leaving it on charger all night, and still nothing. I took it to a local apple certified repair shop today to do a recover or to reset to factory condition and he tried it 3 times on 2 different pc’s using different cords and said this isn’t normal! I left my phone there and now I’m afraid it’s going to be something bad like the logic board is fried! Please someone give me some advice! Can my phone be ruined!???
