Have you encountered any of these scams? Let us know in the comments below! If you're looking for just settings to change, I recommend starting at 8:55.
I have received the NY Tollsby mail scam, more than a few times. I never followed through because I know my EZ Pass is automatic and I generally don't reply to anyone asking for money.
It's not just apple phones that get these scams. I work in aged care and I've met so many elderly people that have fallen for these scams in one form or another, it's really sad. I advise them to never tap on a link in an SMS from someone they don't know personally. Even if they do know them, give them a call to make sure they actually sent the Text and the link.
Another reason I never answer calls from "Unknown Numbers" is I got sick of answering calls and the person on the other end would just hang up. I looked into it and found that it's very possible these calls were just to check if the number was actually active in someone's phone. They'd compile a list of active phones and sell them to marketers.
Every bedside in aged care has old fashioned phone and what they get is a scam calls. It is just disgusting and neither facility nor phone companies take actions because they are all partner into it directly or indirectly.
The FTC does NOTHING! I've reported the family phones and all of us continue to get unwanted calls. These were reported to the FTC "years" ago!!!! I've actually submitted the request at least two times.
This is a very easy fix. The US congress should pass a law allowing a person or an organization to collect money if a person or an organization can identify and prove to the court that the originator of a robocall (even if they spoofing the phone numbers). If this law is passed, phone companies such as ATT, Verizon, etc... and highly technical individual can make millions and hence the scam and robocalls will not survive the heavy collecting fines/fees ang cease their operation.
@@UserName-q8r-m9h I’m not sure what you mean. I’m intrigued, but your grammar leaves me in the lurch. You left your primary thought dangling in the wind. (2nd sentence.). Please clarify.
@@UTubeQu1che551 Currently, if you receive continuous spam/robocalls and even if you have a technical skill and can identify the operator of the spam/robocall, there is nothing you can do but block them and notify relevant authorities. There should be a new law that 1) requires phone companies when requested by an individual to disclose and turn over all technical data traces of the spam/robocall 2) specifies a scientific mechanism to identify the spam/robocall in front of the court of law and allow individual to sue the operator of the spam/robocall for violation, fines, and restitution. You may never receive another spam/robocall again for the reason that phone companies will use this new law to sue and collect money left and right from these operator of the spam/robocall.
These spam calls are absolutely maddening, I get like 10-15 a day. Blocking the numbers doesn't help, they just spoof another number and keep calling. And yes I know about silencing unknown callers but that still doesn't stop them from showing up as missed calls, so I still have 10-15 missed call notifications every day. I swear I'm about to just not have a phone anymore.
I just had a scam yesterday from some I don't know asking for me to pay them one dollare through pay pal. Didn't fall for and have put in a scam complaint to pay pal. Thanks for your great info.
My wife's garbage iPhone gets 25-35 spam calls a day now since we moved. None from where we live but all over the country. Pretty much every state. Getting tired of deleting the garbage as well and marking it as spam.
Over in the UK at the moment we are suffering from people ringing from an 0843 or sometimes 0845 number twice and then hanging up. It’s a nuisance more than anything. Also getting people ringing my secondary phone from all over the UK and also Ireland. I know it’s a scam because I haven’t given anybody the number. I have used the temporary solution at the moment of turning off my voicemail and silencing unknown numbers.
You can delete the blocked numbers, but then the numbers you deleted are no longer blocked. I have hundreds of numbers blocked. No harm in keeping them blocked.
I remember a 'woman' on a dating site who apparently bought and sold things. 'She' messaged me to say she was stuck in customs here in the UK and needed me to send her money so that she could get her items back and sell them so she'd be able to repay me. I didn't believe it so told her my uncle worked in customs so let me know which office she was stuck in and I'd see if he could help out. Needless to say I never heard anything back
All the phone companies could stop 90% with the flip of a switch, literally. The reason they won’t is because some people still pay by the minute for cell phone usage and every time they say hello to a junk call “cha-ching” that company makes a few cents. And with a half a million junk calls a minute that adds up.
Not me lol 🤣🤣🤣 its so fuckin obvious that these scams are scams like the postal delivery text scam or the fake text scam saying did u make this charge with your credit card its all fuckin obvious and i dunno how people still fall for all these bullshit scams 🤣🤣🤣 scams started happening in the year 2015 and its 2024 like come on get with the fuckin program and stop getting scammed 🤣🤣🤣
I'm afraid I have to disagree. All it takes is basic common sense to avoid being scammed. The very fact that religion still plays a part in people's lives proves there is no lack of gullible people in the world.
My phone used to do a good job keeping this sort of thing at bay, but lately I have been receiving several every day and some of them are very believable. The most recent was an appt reminder from a Doctor that I am going to on Monday. I received 2 reminders. One from a number out of state and one from a local number. I’m not sure if one is a scam or not, but I didn’t click on the links in either message just to be safe. It’s very frustrating because you never know if you’re ignoring a legitimate message. 🤬
Thanks for all of the great videos and information! I have used several of your tips and seen some improvement in a whole bunch of areas to include scams and spam.
1. How would they get your telephone number? Tolls are pay by plate which means they mail you a bill they don’t have you phone number. If you have a pass just go to the app and check if you need to add money 4. Nothing is free. 5. If you didn’t request a reset ignore 10. Again, how did they get your phone number? Turn on do not disturb but allow contacts. This doesn’t stop them from leaving a message so if it is a good call just add them to contacts and return call. 90% of spammers won’t leave a message.
Most of these setting I do not have on my iPhone. Like the voicemail or the message separation options. Didn’t realise our phones in the UK are not the same as the ones back home I. The states. 😢
I’ve heard of phishing attacks taking advantage of Apple's password reset feature. I’ve also recently had problems with my device wanting my phone to update carrier settings, always after a data wipe…how are criminals able to manipulate phone carrier and apple code to attack devices?
Thank you for your help with all things iPhone. I get these texts and callers all the time, especially about not paying tolls. I live in the Australian outback with only dodgy satellite internet when the skies are clear and haven’t driven on a toll road in 25 years. I’d be happy to drive on sealed road instead of gravel/dirt! So they didn’t fool me. But thanks to you I also never click on links friends have sent either because they’re not safety savvy. It really annoys them but tough luck! Several have been scammed. I can only hope I don’t.
Can someone tell me how the scammers get their hands on the money, what are the banks doing in all this. I can hardly spend my own money without gouing through hoops down at the bank, how do these guys get around all the banking rules we have to abide by.
I got a call yrs ago. Didn't recognize the number. I answered (figured I'd have some fun) and the guy started asking me personal questions. The longer I kept him talking his accent went away. I had him so worked up that he hung up on me. Then I called FTC and reported him. 🤣🤣
Sometimes you don’t have a choice, but to enter a phone number because they want to send you an authentication code. Some websites do not offer an alternative method for authentication such as banks, for example.

I got the same toll scam message, and I almost fell for it. for maybe 1 second.
When you google Apple support the first number that comes up is a scam number
Apple needs to stop them.
You don’t need to google, Apple has a app for support.
