Lads, I adore your channel, I'm not a toy collector perse (yet), but you lads seem such nice guys, and as an 80s kid, the nostalgia is so comforting! Keep it up chaps!
This is one of the most wonderful productions I have stumbled on on YT! Production value being outstanding aside, the three of you have captured something pretty amazing. Gen-X nostalgia is somewhat unique. Almost the last pure era of physical toys at the whim of true designers and artists. The 'breaky' bits come from the production teams realizing their vision."You want that specific blue, or that shiny metallic? Let me ring up BASF and get their latest!" You folks get this. The wonder, though, comes from the shared experience this tour gives everyone who did not grow up in each of the countries you visited while very much so including yourselves in this feeling! That mix of world-wide 'canon' with items that are just a little shifted, or even completely absent, from our local toys exposes a shared, clearly gestalt, lineage myself, and many others, weren't aware of. I have a personal connection to many of the keystone toys of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and Aughts here in the US through my work with my father as a commercial photographer. Milton Bradley is a hometown company and a client of his until the end of their local HQ. This continued for many years after Hasbro's purchase, right until they bugged out for RI leaving only Cartamundi as a shell of their former self. At one point or another, every MB game was in his studio, often in prototype form for packaging or Toy Fair here in Feb, for three decades. To this day, after producing work for, and attending NY Toy Fair many years, i still feel a certain stress in January although I am no longer in the field. Early on, when LEGO had created their first NA Marketing Group, he was their contract photographer, I still have pieces in my kid's LEGO of my LEGO from the artwork he shot... It is very likely that the "Spirit of St. Louis" pieces I have in a bin were on the US box. Not a boast, but purely a strange happenstance. Up until they closed their CT headquarters, friends of ours were their exclusive creative group. Now they are not. Sadly. My long-winded point is this. My little part of the world just happened to be the origin for many of the timeless classics, and by pure coincidence of birth I was in the middle of it for many years... To see both it's world spanning influence, and the absolute absence in regions is amazing. It has expanded my thoughts a bit deeper than just toys. The idea of Nostalgia for an unshared past is something else! Thank you for this, I look forward to the next journey!
Another little note... The fact that you feature toys spanning every genre, blurring the definitions of 'boy' vs. 'girl' toys is pretty excellent too. A quality toy, or an awesome crappy toy, is a toy regardless of who the marketing group cooked it up for!
Gav definitely has a fondness and knowledge for girls toys and the more unusual items, balances the team out well. I don't see a lot of women vintage toy collectors on TH-cam but i assume the nostalgia bug penetrates their sensible / adult mindset every once in a while lol.
Seeing Joe's face with the Blackstar Castle reminded me of getting a 'sealed' Japanese G1 Black Zarak in the early 00s, taking him out of the polystyrene and his gold foot stayed in the box! Absolutely gutting.

Who doesn’t love a bonus episode. I am impressed you saved all of these and wow what great items! I think Nono from Ulysses and the Starfleet XBomber figures would get my vote for best pick up although I do love the Black Hole items as i love micronauts magnetic figures, it’s great to see another line using the same mechanism. I may have to add those to my wish list. Thanks again for another great series 👏
I agree that MAC display should be sold as a whole piece Perhaps one day you'll tell us what you saw in that basement you couldn't show on camera I bet it was some real holy grail stuff too
Amazing Amazing cool stuff only came across this channel this week and me and the other half are hooked ! We also collect toys and retro gaming ( small video on our channel ) keep up the good work guys wow mega wow !!
37:50 We got these dragons for Christmas in the late 80s. I think they were flea market purchases even back then. Man, we looooved them! Still got them somewhere.
It’s probably already been said, but the Nono is a bubblegum toy. He splits apart at the waist and there used to be a piece of bubblegum in the middle. I remember buying one in Spain in the 80’s
I loved Mobile Action Command when I was a lad. Those are amazing! Those Dragon Flyz were banned in the US. Stupid children kept shooting them at each other causing injuries. Yeah Blackstar Ice Castles are notorious for shattering in the box.
Great series Guys! Love the squeaky pig! It's the sort of thing I'd normally not look twice at...until I heard the squeak, and then I'd want it, just 'cos! Used to have a couple of Eagles, the Commander with the weird bowl shaped helmet that just used to rest on top of his head and slip to one side and look stupid. But not as stupid as he looked with a blob of Blu tack on top of his head to hold it on... also had that crude Capture Copter thing they did which I got complete from a jumble sale in the 80s. Gone now.🎶Dunno where, dunno when...🎶 And DON'T diss mr Dean! He's connected...never mess with somebody who has a Gay King And a May Zinger on speed dial!🤭 Dragon Flyz looked rubbish at the time. It seemed a lot of money to pay for something that you Knew you'd use once and send it flying up onto a neighbours roof to be lost forever...still, it'd be company for the Action Man Parachutist who ended up there about 6 years earlier. I had horrible neighbours. Or was I a horrible kid? Come to your own conclusions... As for the Kryptonite rock, they got away with selling 'Pet rocks' in the 70s. Some people will buy Anything, won't they...Joe? That Magna Maximillian looks interesting, looks like it could be made to mix and match with the Micronauts Magna figures! Baron Maximillian Karza! It has a ring to it, don't you think? S.T.A.R.R. Force Commander! Right, that's enough. Genuinely sorry about the Ice Castle, a real pity but sort of to be expected. The Kenner Death Star was robust in comparison! Great series, a lot of fun! Cheers, Guys!😁👍👍👍🍻

Shame about the black star castle and with dust on it probably was on display at somepoint. I need to come to see your shop and do a tour of it and see what I can find for my collection.
I have enjoyed watching every episode of Series 1 and 2 this week so thanks to the 3 of you for making these films.......one question though, if you were importing those toys I presume you would have to pay duty so when you brought them over on the ferry were they not inspected by French custom officers ?
Were Blackstar toys ever released in the UK. I'm the right age to remember it 9 years old in 83 I don't remember the cartoon and it is the sort of thing I loved at that age and definitely wouldn't have forgotten.
@@leicestervintagetoyshop were they widely distributed?
