This was so helpful. Just bought a set of SLX brakes but the website didn't say they weren't fully assembled. I've done bleeds before, but never installed hoses before, so hopefully your video will help me to minimize my screw-ups when installing! Thank you!
Nicely done, thorough without all the extra Jibber-jabber....Thanks! I constructed my first replacement front brake line yesterday with one of those barb presses. Handy to have and cheap!
Nice! These have reach adjustment as well. Only difference is XT has a free stroke adjust as well, but I’ve heard it doesn’t work too well, I opted to try SLX
@@TheBikeSauce Engineering-wise, the master cylinders are identical to XT. Take out the blank cap with a pair of circlip pliers and put a screw in there. I put gold ones in mine because it looks awesome, and if you don't like it, you're wrong. Can't remember the thread size sorry. Don't know how well they work, I just like how they look.
Wondering why you have to take out the olive? Is this step in the manual? Thanks for the decent, easy to follow video. I have to finish the same brakes the next days. Hope it will go as smoothly as in your video 😊
Love how easy Shimano make this stuff! I really think I can do a full oil change in about the same time it took me to swap a brake cable. Now if I‘d only had this nice video back when I started… 😉
For the bleed is better remove brake pads and push the piston back , insert che the bleed block to lock the pistons. Connect the Shimano funnel with oil and press lever . When you don't see air bubble , remove the funnel with oil , remove the bleed block , reinstall the brake pads and done.
You mentioned being able to use the preinstalled barb on the new hose if you don't want to shorten the line. I noticed the barb has a film over the end to keep the fluid in. Does this film need to be removed first?
@@kmdem Yes, I just used my fingernail to make sure the barb didn’t get nicked. The film was well attached so it took some work but it came off cleanly.
Im new to mountain biking but i just picked up a bike that has these on it. What are the little thumbscrews on the lever for? Thanks and hopefully thats not a dumb question 😂
Happy new bike day! They set the lever position in or out (it’s called ‘reach adjustment’). There’s no right or wrong position; set it where it feels comfortable and where the lever isn’t pulling all the way to the handlebars
Great, detailed explanation, thanks! The "olive" is called a ferrule. I turn my bike upside down and pump the brakes too. This is why I take mine to the bike shop... so I don't have to buy $100 in tools to do a $20 job 🙂
totally wrong dude, You don't need to remove the bolt or olive from the lever, they are left in there intentionally and the cable just sits directly in (after cutting). The other error is the cable is not prefitted with a barb. The thing that's in the cable is a plug simply to stop the mineral oil leaking and this must be removed before attaching to the lever. On the cable just below the sealing plug is a small marking which indicates the minimum amount of cable that MUST BE REMOVED before inserting the supplied barb
😆 removing the olive and nut is a personal preference to make sure the barbed hose sits fully in the lever. Neither correct nor incorrect. Of course the cap on the uncut hose isn’t a barb; we ended up shortening the hose anyway. Why are you an angry biker? Bikes are supposed to be fun 😀
Just what I needed. The manual is now ONLY online and even then didn’t have any fitting instructions! Thanks
Yes. Online like youtube video 🤣

Perfect video, wish TH-cam was more like this! No BS, clear and instructive - Well done!
I've watched tons of how to vids on TH-cam, on dozens of topics. That was as good as I've seen. Great job, keep it up.
🙏🙏🙏 thx!

One of the best videos i've seen to show how this is done correctly.
Everything is perfectly explained! Great and easy to watch video! 👏 Thanks for the information
This is the best video I’ve seen in this by far man! Thank you
4:15 Thanks for that…I swore it opened all the way but couldn’t figure it out.
Thank you - this got me successfully thru my first full new brake install.
Díky!
Thank you!!
Fantastic instruction. Didn't miss a thing, and didn't waste our time with extra. Great job!
Thanks so much man, appreciate the procedural walk-through and respect your attention to detail!
Did this for the first time last year. Easy once you know how. Hope the SLX are worth it. I got older XT, soo nice to have reach adjustment. Cheers

@superyamagucci that would be an awesome diy video
Was looking for a tutorial, what a great surprise to see your channel!

One of the best “easy to follow” new brake installation videos. That dedicated brake line cutting tool and barb tool is really nice!
Very detailed but at the same time easy to follow video. You have a thing for educational videos dude.
😆 thx. My day job spilling over into the channel..
Thank you this was the most simple tutorial that I could find
Good video. Nice to get a refresher on these kinds of maintenance tasks.
Great video. Always wondered what the crow's foot was for.

Yeah the "bleeding" he does isn't bleeding at all actually ....
Great job! I could've used this info a year ago. I ended up giving the install to my LBS. But now I can take a Crack at doing it myself.
Not too bad!
That was succinct. Good job!
Very good thanks for saving me a trip to the workshop
very complete and easy to understand HOW TO, thank you
Ty gonna use ur video to install Shimano Saints
Excellent tutorial.Thanks a lot.
Great video, super clear instructions hitting every important point. Thanks!
This was a huge help. Thanks for making the vid 🤟🤙
Nice job on this! Well done video
Great, straight forward video!
Great. Explained everything. Thanks.
Très bien expliqué, compréhensible même en anglais 👍
Does the cable come with oil in it too then?
Great vid! Just what I needed, have a friend that needs this work done and you made it look easy peezy!
Right on, Bob!
Excellent video very informative!
Why not use the same brake hoses?
i hope someone can notice but the banjo bolt in the caliper. can you reposition it to other side?
The 2mm thickness of the SRAM rotor works with the Shimano caliper?
You mentioned being able to use the preinstalled barb on the new hose if you don't want to shorten the line. I noticed the barb has a film over the end to keep the fluid in. Does this film need to be removed first?
Oh I wasn’t aware it had a film on it. It would need to be removed first
@@TheBikeSauce I figured. That’s what I did and it seems to have worked well. Thanks for your videos, by the way. Great stuff!
Hi did you just scratch the film off the barb? Shimano web site did not mention it. Thanks.

How about better way to bleed tektro 4 pistons using by Siskiu T8... Mine very spongy on the lever... Thanks for your reply soon😊

@@TheBikeSauce ok thanks for responding! Just wanted to make sure they weren’t for anything else. 👍
Perfect, thank you!
Would this break system work on a GT aggressor pro?
Sure would
Why the Hell is the seal bursting on the lever when I brake a bit harder??
Dude, I recently tried contacting you via ur site RE: the FS 2.0 blank cartridge… are you gonna sell them?
Great attention to detail! You presented this very well.
Why’d you switch from srsm to shimano? I heard sram has better modulation
I personally don’t like messing with dot fluid, and my sram levers started getting stuck (known issue on sram levers).
@@TheBikeSauceeven on sram code r’s?
Perfect! Thanks
Big thank you
Thanks For Video...Thumb UP

Haha ferrule is the cap that goes on the end of brake and shifter housing.
Why would you need to buy $100 tools to do this job? The only thing really necessary is the $5 plastic funnel and some mineral brake fluid…
