They actually split that part of the manga into two separate episodes/arcs in the anime, the Dungeon Dice Monsters arc and the Bandit Keith duel.

TL;DR - Saban Entertainment bought the rights, ignored the Japanese episode scripts, and wrote their own instead. They even shout-out this fact during the main theme song.
Yep 4kids dropped GX before it's final season. Low ratings, high dubbing cost, the season being quite dark, and wanting to just get to GX and its card releases. They said they would get back to it after they finished 5Ds but they never did, mostly because they got sued by TV Tokyo and dissolved as a buisness. And yeah that guy did have an exodia deck, it was actually pretty competent for Yugioh anime standards, although he was actually using counterfeit cards, and Yugi had the one card that could counter his strategy as usual.
Exodia is kinda complicated in practice. If you have all five pieces in your hand at ANY time, you win. But making a deck around it is hard. Because that means that 1/8 of your deck is useless. And if you draw any of the pieces before having all 5 then that is one less useful card in your hand. So the only decks that can use exodia are ftk (first turn kill) decks and those get banned pretty quick. Because who wins becomes a coinflip in tournaments and thats not fun.

Don´t feel to bad missing some of the references. At the time I watched this back in the day I did not know what "The cake is a lie" was from. I thought people made memes and jokes at Super Mario 64 about Peach at the end promesing Mario cake but becuse we never see it people made "the cake is a lie" joke out of it.
