Southern Indiana reclaimated strip pits have produced many Bluegill above the 12"-1lb mark for me. I heard Rice Lake in Canada was a monster gill factory back in the 90s, but never got the chance to fish it. Reelfoot Lake had big Crappies and Gill, but on a major decline. Dale Hollow on the Kentucky side was always a go to for huge Red Ear Sunfish.
I will always have a rod over the side of the boat, drifting or not! I caught my biggest bluegill ever (10.75") that way! Thought I had a huge carp on, it fought so hard!
12.75" Deep Creek Lk MD 12.75" Private pond, MD My home lake is actually a heavily recreated reservoir of 3,900ac. But between having moderate depths, a very small watershed area, a complex morphometry, and extensive SAV, it supports a tremendous forage base in the form of Daphnia. Consequently, all of the panfish species found here, can and do reach trophy proportions. The 'trouble' is, their focus on free-drifting plankton makes for generally very fussy, selective feeders, but any day of the year that you can LOCATE a group of BGL or PSD, if you remain persistent, if using finesse presentations, you should expect to meet or clear the 10" mark. That said, DCL's much-deserved nickname is "The Reluctant Dragon", as its wide variety of species are abundant, but moody. It serves up many slices of 'humble pie'. When the bite is 'on', well... it's worth having been blanked at least as many times.
Green waters=fertile waters=big fish (usually). That's a formula! Looks like there's some good ones for the future in that lake. Healthy looking!
Wisconsin, Walworth county.. I was 8 years old I caught a gill just shy of 12. Mom measured it.
Last month I caught 2 10's in norther Wisconsin.
Soome nice bluegill, I see the lake has a slight algae bloom. Reminds me of devils lake in Jackson county
