could only have been better if after the small talk YOU guys suggested to take THEM to the same bar. They would have pissed their pants! Or maybe have become aggressive at the point.
@@charlesmendez4686 It was the local government actually, the mayor is against the country government there. Just wanted to mention before anyone would think that Orbán did something good. He didn't, Soproni did.
This is actually becoming a big news piece in Hungary with many major news portals covering your story. The mayor of the district reported the place to both the Police and the tax authorities. Even the CEO of the official marketing agency of the city of Budapest made a video thanking you. He also went to the bar and put large stickers on the window telling visitors to stay away from this place. You are making actual difference my man! Update: The place closed down permanently. The mayor reported on his FB that the bar is already off the local registry. The Police investigation is still underway though, the whole story is dealt with as a big public embarrassment for the city.
One thing that bothers me about this story is. is the fact that prices were on the menu? If thats the case.. i dont really think you can blame anyone. if you know the prices.. then you can say no at any minute and leave. And yes sure the girls try to get you to order a lot.. but thats not the first time this stuff happens. If you know agree to it. then thats on you. Unless ofcourse they charge you ten fold of what you expected.. and it wasnt shown anywhere beforehand
Thank you guys for this video. I am not proud that these scams are happening in my country. On the other hand: IF SOMEONE IS GOING TO VISIT BUDAPEST, OR HUNGARY, BE AWARE THAT YOU CAN PAY WITH CARD IN EVERY CAFE, IN EVERY RESTAURANT. BECAUSE THESE PLACES ARE OBLIGED BY THE LAW TO PROVIDE A BANK TERMINAL. So if the waiter does not want to accept card, just call the police.
As a Hungarian I'll do my best to report the place since everyone have to accept credit cards and the cash registers have to report all the payments online. Also the largest travel site linked the video so authorities might have to go to work
He’ll make it there, viewership goes up exponentially as TH-camrs channels thrive. He’s a hilarious guy with some great & funny friends, and no shortage of depressing, backwards, third world shit to visit/poke fun at 😂🤣👍👏👏👏
@@Elatenl it is in respects to the type of content he does make. Youd expect a dude like this to have like 4 mil subs or smth by now with how much of a banger his vids always are
This is a scam that apparently happens in Japan too or something very similar, where you have friendly people on the street, target tourists and encourage them to a buy that massively overcharges and they follow you to the ATM or even drug you or steal from you. Abroad in Japan did a video on it after one of his viewers got caught about by it and lost a lot of money. So I think it's worth being vigilant of this kind of thing regardless of where you are in the world.
Yes it’s a very common scam that is prevalent in East Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and China and others. SerpantZA from ADVChina spoke of similar scams in Beijing.
It also happened to me in Beijing. I payed like 150€ for a bottle of wine I ordered with a local guy who wanted to talk and spend a nice moment with a stranger (me) in a bar he chose. I paid in Yuan so time to realize the overprizing bottle.. it was too late. A good lesson for me 👍
It pays to be prudent, though. These scammers may be protected by undesirable people, usually syndicates, that will not appreciate you poking your nose into their business. You don't want to get into serious trouble with these thugs over several hundred bucks. Best to stay away from shady parts of the city if you are a tourist. It's not worth the trouble.
A bit of insight for you guys: - They drink fast because they use a straw in the (empty) coke bottle/can to spit out the alcohol - The lady with the Duck lips IS the (co-)owner but lies about it - Above facts are enough reason to ignore the bill and walk away. If they threaten with police, start calling them yourself and you will see how fast they adjust the bill. Nice channel, guys! Keep up the good work 😊👍🏼
@@andreixrt9866 there is no problem for this place to be a legitimate business, just as any other bar, so you'll have to pay and they actually can call the police.
Not to mention running a closed bar that only opens for women who bring tourists. They all know. The story of someone owning it who is not there could be very true so they can always avoid liability. A friend of the owner runs the bar and encourages women, multiple couples of women, to pick up tourists and bring them there and they'll get paid later.
That bartender was 100 percent in on the scam. She keeps the door locked, serves rounds without them being ordered, blurts out the owner is in Israel, & sees this happening every day. Total scammer.
You guys seriously think the server didn’t know about this? She just turned on a “fool” mode on. She was the one who said you need to pay 210 euros, opened a restaurant which was closed and etc. Obviously she’s with them. Anyway, good job detectives 🕵️♂️ 👏
As a Hungarian, it was so funny hearing the people and the girls in the background talking $hit about you guys and cursing. Thank you for the nice, and funny video!
Peter, you always surprise me after every upload. I can't believe you every single time make a better and higher quality video and I can say every time that this is your best video ever. and this is. The Hungarian songs were absolutely fitting, I couldn't stop laughing at the escort webpage and when you said "Fuck Lajos" seriously at the end that was hilarious. and this whole spy action was better than a Netflix movie. I can't choose what's my favourite series from you because you can do anything, make a comedy video or climb Mount Kilimanjaro in record time, your content is always a banger. I know you will keep up this amazing work. Man, I can't wait for your Latin American series, love you from Hungary!
The conversation you had with the girls when you met them for the first time on the street was not small talk at all. They asked you questions that can provide them a lot of good information in order to scam you guys, such as: Do you speak Hungarian?
Many Slovakian people can understand Hungarian language. That is the reason they asked, not because it helps for scamming them. And the girls never said anything suspicious, I understand Hungarian, so they suspected they (the guys) might understand them, so the girls never said anything about scamming.
@@veghbela OFC they dont gonna say anything like that, they arent stupid. This is the same if you work in the streets doing something like recolecting founds for ONG. They dont gonna tell you "btw, maybe in some months the amount you are giving its gonna rise".
not to mention that they call them "mark". A mark is the target you will scam, not some person she was supposedly meeting. Its more about telling the person on the other side of the line that they are working now.
@@veghbela Slovakians don't understand Hungarian. Hungarian is not a slaw language, contrary to languages as Slovakian, Czech or Russian. Hungarian and slaw languages don't have any similarities.
@@veghbela of course they would not say they are scamming guys or say anything that would elude to them doing anything that is not above board, why would a scammer do that? dont make yourself a victim by believing everything you see and hear, read between the lines and body language, not every girl (and guys as well) likes you for your charm and accent.
They asked me the same question, if I can speak Hungarian. It happened to me in 2019, but when they invited me into the bar, I asked to sit downstairs near the door. When they wanted to order drinks, I told them everyone pays for themselves then they got upset. I wanted to take a photo with them, but they refused and kicked me out of the bar.
20:42 I try to translate Xd "Én szeretném, ha kifizetnéd" means "I would like you to pay (the drinks)" 20:46 "Najó nem akarom" means " Well I dont want this." 20:49 "Szeretném ha fizetnél" means "I want you to pay" (little bit agressive tone) 21:06 "Jöjjön mert szeretném ha fizetnél" means "Just come inside, i want you to pay" 21:35 "Jó, Engem ez nem érdekel, menj be fizesd ki" means "Well, I really don't care just go inside and pay for the drinks." 22:29 "Hallod! Gyere hagyjad ezek zoknik" 😅 "Hey! Come, just let them (pay&go) they are socks (socks refer to mentaly disable in hungarian)
Your transcripts are incorrect. 20:40 "Én szeretném kifizetni. Na jó, én nem akarok... Jó, oké. Excuse me, ki szeretném fizetni a... én, amit... Szeretném." "I'd like to pay. Alright, I don't want this. Well, okay. Excuse me, I would like to pay for what I... I'd like to. 21:05 "Elnézést, jöjjön be, ki szeretném fizetni az én részemet." "Excuse me, would you come in, I'd like to pay my share." 21:35 "Jó, engem ez nem érdekel. Menj be, fizesd ki a te részed, légyszi! Menjél be, fizesd ki a részed, és utána menjünk." "OK, I don't care. Please go back in and pay your share. Just go in, pay your share, and then let's go." 22:29 she clearly says "Hallod, gyere, hagyjad légyszi!" "Hey listen, come and leave (it/them) please." No zokni, not even a fél pár. The girls were afraid that these guys were going to call the police, so they backed off and "paid" (probably just pretended to pay) for their share of drinks. That is why the guys had to pay only the half of the total amount eventually.
Hi Peter! Sorry this has happened to you. I emailed the district's mayor and all 4 deputy mayors about this scam. I hope that the government and the police will immediately stop this scam. Also, the video is excellent; keep up the great work! And for others: Budapest is a great city, don't reconsider visiting it. :)

I was scammed there by too! I recognize the one blonde bigger girl. She was with a different girl. Thank you for exposing this! I tried to report them to the police the day after it happened but they did nothing. I also wrote a review on google warning people.
The server is definitely in on this. She just was a lot calmer and smarter so to not rat herself out. It's obvious all three of them run this bar (that may even be illegal) and share the profits afterwards. PS. Also the husband working as a security is probably a farce as well. It's like she's saying my husband is big and will beat you up so gtfo! 😂
Worked in Budapest in 2007/2008, and these scam restaurants with the exact same scheme already existed back then. Usually girls would chat you up with a map, asking if you know a random place, and then recommend a "nice restaurant2 they came across, and ask if you'd join them for a drink there. Massive red flag that they only asked foreigners for directions, and when I answered in so so but enough Hungarian, they immediately left.
This is one of your best Peter. Proud of y’all’s work and seeing how you guys have improved over the year. Excellent entertainment/unofficial amateur detecting and mythbusting.

The exact same scam happened to my American friends visiting here. 2 girls asked for a lighter from them and then started small talk. Eventually the girls asked if they want to have a few drinks. They took my friends to a shady bar where the bartenders kept bringing out drinks they didn't even order, but they just rolled with it thinking it's kind hospitality. Then they received the bill for 200 000 HUF. When they said they don't have that much cash on them, the girls and 3 guys from the bar forced them to go to an ATM just across the bar entrance and forced them to get the money... When they asked me for help, we went back together immediately. The girls were still there looking for victims and bringing in some guys. When we confronted them, there was of course a big scene and some guys from nearby shops came out, acting sympathetic and asking what's wrong, offering help, acting like they are outraged about the situation. But it eventually turned out they were all in it. Basically the owners of the nearby 3-4 stores were all in this scam. We reported it to the police, but they didn't want to help at all. I am not saying they are in it too, but their behaviour made it quite likely. This was all happening on the fashion street btw.
Okay, Peter. I just found your channel and the videos are so interesting, especially the experiences in those places. I'd love to see more of those in the future. Today I almost spent my entire day watching your videos. AMAZING!
I wouldn’t have paid that money. You were too nice. You could have left without paying. These scammers can’t force you to pay because they can’t call the police or the manager. They also don’t have your personal details to track you. Having said that, well done for this video. I had a good laugh. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
There is noway you csn leave withput payment. If you don’t pay some guys will appear from backround. They can heavily beat you up and police will do nothing. Undortunately
@@streettravelxxi yeah same thing happened to me in Poland. All of a sudden 2 huge guys came from behind the curtains. Luckily I was faster, because I didn't want to pay a hundred euros for 3 drinks 😂
He'll make 3x that from the video. I'd like to think at some point one of these old birds is gonna get their noses broken before the nearby muscle has a chance to respond.
In Hungary, according to some regulations, in bars, restaurants and places like this, they have to accept card, according to the law. Visa or Master Card. So if ever happens this to someone, call the police immediately. And of course the scam is also illegal. So You don't have to pay. BTW good job and respect from Hungary! (Pm me if You want hungarian translation.)
Not neceserally, they have to accept some form of electronic payment, so that means bank transfer too, not just card. But that place is operated illegally for sure.
@@markosz22 Maybe, but I think they have a large scary guy for those cases, who will force you to the ATM. At least that was the case in previous similar scam places.
Hey Peter, I always watch your videos, it's funny and getting better and better :) I'm happy that you made a video in my country, but I'm sorry for those 2 scammers. At 14:52 when you say ok for the champagne one of them says to her friend "you going big" i think so she means that you a jackpot in her scams. I hope you will make more videos here about other bad restaurants where there are no scams, but bad food :) If you need any advice just write me. Keep doing this great job Peter and Vlad :)
Do you think that they are originally from Hungary? Their accent when they speak in English is quite similar to the accent that Ukrainian/Russian speakers have (especially, how they pronunce the letters "w" and "th"). Maybe this is also a feature of some Hungarian speakers when they talk in English, I don't know
@@alejandrocosials I'm pretty sure they are Hungarian. Don't know anything about Ukrainian or Russian accents but their accent most of the time sounds like how you would read these english sentences in Hungarian. (by that I mean only using Hungarian pronunciation without English)

Every local in Budapest knows this place is a scam. It’s been going on for 10 years and nothing has been done. Glad this place is getting the exposure it deserves. Those girls should be arrested
I can’t tell you how much I laughed at the beginning when you said - we are two Slovakian guys. If you don’t know about the SNL Steve Martin & Dan Akroyd skit from the 1970s when they played Czech brothers. “We are two wild & crazy guys” you should definitely check it out 😂😂
Great! I've heard about this method of robbing gullible tourists, but to open the scam bar only for two dupes and then close it right away after they leave! This is the highest level of cynicism. These scammers should be stopped and punished.
14:52 You agreed to get a small champagne, but one of the girls asked the other one in Hungarian if they should order the big one anyways. She then answered something along the lines of "fuck it, just get the small one"
The exact same scam happens in Kathmandu, Nepal. My friends got scammed and they had to pay 300+ USD. Police and owners including the staff, everyone is involved in this.

RESPECT! You are the only TH-camrs I've ever seen who managed to pull the classic Hungary-hungry joke in an acceptable way! :D I knew you are geniuses, guys!
This happens in every major tourist city. I hate to say it, but if anyone's being nice to you out of nowhere, just be weary... I followed these very friendly and talkative people to a seedy nightclub in Roppongi, Japan. We all just had a couple of drinks until we decided we wanted to leave. We were presented a ridiculously massive bill of around 300 Euros. The waiter only wanted cash, and of course my friends and I wouldn't pay. They escorted us to an ATM (couple of Yakuza-looking guys...), but at some point my 2 friends and I just talked in our native language and agreed we would all run in different directions. We managed to run away with them chasing us and we didn't pay anything... Yes, I guess we technically stole a couple of shots, but we saved several hundreds of Euros/dollars and didn't make the swindlers any richer. I ended up hiding under a staircase to some building for 15 minutes trying to contact my friends. I'm glad we all escaped that situation. Then in Beijing, I was photographing the forbidden city, as some very nice Chinese girl started tagging along and telling me all sorts of history about the place. She said she was a tourist herself, from some other city in China, but obviously her main job was hunting for gullible tourists. After a while, she invited me for some drinks at some local "tea house". I smelled it was a scam from a mile away, but I followed her to the establishment anyways and only then told her I was going to leave and not order anything. I did this partially out of curiosity, but also just to waste her time. She got extremely mad and exclaimed I was the scammer, because I didn't want anything after all. Then 2 other people (maybe involved in the scam?) started accusing me of being a scammer and they threatened to call the cops, and things got very heated with 3-4 people screaming at me. Honestly, I felt like I could've landed in a whole heap of trouble if I stayed there for any longer even though I was 100% innocent of anything, so I just bolted the heck outta there. During my travels in Europe I haven't really ran into this scam, but every single place with any sort of tourism going has a booming scam industry operating in the shadows. I'm sure I've just been lucky to avoid it there. I've seen dozens of other scams though... If THEY approach you, usually they have some sort of malicious intent, but if you approach them, the chances are you're going to talk to a trustworthy and nice regular guy no matter where you are. My rule of thumb is to just politely say "no thanks" and walking away no matter what people approach me with. They may say they're in need of help, or they want to give me something, or they may be asking for something, but I'm always going to say no. I have met a couple of people who actually approached me out of nowhere without any ulterior motives, but that's not very common, unfortunately. One of these people was a pretty sketchy-seeming street artist in Paris who sounded and behaved exactly like a scammer, but turned out to be a cool guy after all. He approached me with the basic tourist scam lines like "where are you from?", "ah, Finland, mita kuuluu? Jari Litmanen very good player" and then asked me if I wanted him to paint my portrait. I told him no and he just wished me a good day. Then I just asked him "where can I find some good food around here?" just to gauge his personality, and he actually gave me a perfect response. He told me every single restaurant here is way too expensive -- especially for a street artist -- and he recommended this small little sandwich shop that sold cheap but delicious street food. I went there and got myself a sandwich and thought it was the bomb, so after eating it I ordered another one and took it to the street painter as a gesture of appreciation. He painted me a small picture as a gift, completely free of charge, and I still have it framed on my wall to this day.
Perushommia :D Kinda same in Holland. We were watching a map and then someone politely came to help us... and then asked money and didn't take no for answer. Next time when it happen, we just said that we don't need any help.
Don't know why I read the whole thing, but glad I did. Cool stories. I already knew about the Japanese drinks scam, the same thing happens in Russia with cheap tea that they sell you as gold. The street artist is different, cause it's not really a scam, they usually tell you the price so you are free to deny (I have one myself and definitely worth more than buying some other stupid souvenir). In Italy the most famous ones are black people putting bracelets on you as a gift, then asking for many (and they are very very insistent) or a new one is where they put prints on the floor behind corners in crowded places, so when you step on them, they ask you to buy the print at absurd price (only heard about this one though)

As a bar owner in Budapest, I have mixed feelings about this. First and foremost - one bad apple doesn’t make a rotten fruit basket but you guys know that :) I’m so glad you exposed these pieces of garbage for what they are - but also, Budapest is an amazing city with a ton of honest and friendly/welcoming and fair restos & bars. Hope this one bad example doesn’t discourage anyone from visiting my amazing city ❤
Yeah but Budapest is just becoming a city with scam prices in general. Expensive drinks... IDK know how natives live with that probably they know where to go and where not.
while i aggree not every establishment is scamming people or are dishonest, it is also in your best interest to expose /report these establishments as someone who could loose business yourself as sites like tripadvisor are being used far more often by tourists today (and locals) in making decisions on where to go based on these reviews. glad you are one of the good ones though :)
Just a friendly advice: next time have a sip from the girls' glasses. With high probability, they were drinking water not the so called palinka, i.e. they colluded with the server very closely. This is a method of how to double rip off guests. They looked sober after the drinks anyway, so there's something stinks for sure.
this is actually a very common scam in Japan. Check out Tev - Japon if you speak French or Chris Abroad if you speak English, both have covered dozens of stories of customers who were scammed in the exact same way. Except there, these bars are owned by the yakuza, so if you don't pay, you're in danger

I went to Budapest in 2017 and got scammed by a taxi driver from the main airport. I was trying to count the currency and he was like “ah yes, that’s right, that’s the right amount!” and took some notes from my hand. I was too slow to realise what was going on and I realised he’d probably taken twice as much as the taxi should have cost. I also met another traveller there who got scammed in the train station. Someone claiming to be security approached her and said that because her ticket hadn’t been stamped properly, she had to pay a fine and he marched her to an ATM. Beware, they’re up to all sorts here.
if your dumb enough to let the taxi driver to take the money from your hand instead if not calculating it and giving the right amout...... then u deserve to be scammed

Yeah. Happened to me in Japan

A bit of insight for you guys:
- They drink fast because they use a straw in the (empty) coke bottle/can to spit out the alcohol
- The lady with the Duck lips IS the (co-)owner but lies about it
- Above facts are enough reason to ignore the bill and walk away. If they threaten with police, start calling them yourself and you will see how fast they adjust the bill.

I needed some of this back in my life. Thank you PPPeter.
Probably the best "Worst/best reviewed series" episode ever. This was a complete investigation. Keep it up!
A shame this is going on for years and nothing has been done to shut this place for good. Love Budapest though, gorgeous city.
Please ! Please share more of your reviews ! You guys do a wonderful job and I looove your excellent work !
This is some pretty good - and risky - undercover investigating! Bloody good content.
Awesome video!
And now let’s be honest: every minute the scam odor gets stronger. I would not say that I lose sympathy to the people getting robbed, but they kind of ask for it.
The only Raid Shadow Legends sponsor ad on youtube that I didn't skip
Vlad's English is getting better and better. Nice work dude!
RESPECT! You are the only TH-camrs I've ever seen who managed to pull the classic Hungary-hungry joke in an acceptable way! :D I knew you are geniuses, guys!
It really wasn't that clever...
Sadly, there are several other places in Budapest, which also try to scam tourists. Váci street has many bars like this one.
Perushommia :D
Kinda same in Holland. We were watching a map and then someone politely came to help us... and then asked money and didn't take no for answer. Next time when it happen, we just said that we don't need any help.
I read it all. 👍
Anything done in the streets of Paris is a redflag especially if they approach you, the best thing to do is approach them not the opposite
Serpentza has a great video on the Beijing "Tea girls" scam. I was unaware scams like this happened in Europe. Good to know. th-cam.com/video/ICsW0J5rGaI/w-d-xo.html
This was more of an undercover operation than a restaurant review.....Just Loved the episode....looking forward for more
As a bar owner in Budapest, I have mixed feelings about this.
Every city has a few bad places & bad people, I'm sure Budapest is a great city & hope to visit there one day. 👍
been here a week and booked another month as Budapest is beautiful.
The most underrated channel on youtube.... He needs to go viral.. His content is different and far better than other vloggers/explorers...
Just a friendly advice: next time have a sip from the girls' glasses. With high probability, they were drinking water not the so called palinka, i.e. they colluded with the server very closely. This is a method of how to double rip off guests. They looked sober after the drinks anyway, so there's something stinks for sure.
That was my suspicion.
this is actually a very common scam in Japan. Check out Tev - Japon if you speak French or Chris Abroad if you speak English, both have covered dozens of stories of customers who were scammed in the exact same way. Except there, these bars are owned by the yakuza, so if you don't pay, you're in danger
Couldn't ask more for a season opener, awesome video. Thank you Peter, we needed this
Never thought of a hidden camera in a car key fob. That’s brilliant. Everyone has keys, no one would suspect it.
Thank you my friend for posting video ❤ w8ing for it from months
OMG... what a shame. I don't know this place, but this is crazy that it can happen in the 21th century EU. But why did you pay? Come on you should have just said let's call the police and the tax authorities.
by the way, your hungarian friends (Tibi atya) shared it with thousands of people . You earned one more subscriber ;)
he got the budget tho
no need to get himself into trouble, just let more people know that this is a scam
Well because most foreigners don't have pleasant exchanges with the minek mentél oda? Police provided they actually speak a language.
There's good reason that every summer German cops have to help out on lake Balaton as local cops can't even communicate why they take action
Guys, im Hungarian and i feel so so sorry about this terrible situation. These "girls" are disgusting and i hope this going to be closed ASAP. I already sent your video to some Hungarian news channel to take a bit of care about these bcs its not fair with tourist. Anyway i laughed a lot, both of u are funny.
Amazing job guys :D Can't wait for new episodes, greeting from Ukrainian Transcarpathia.
what a master piece! the spy thing was incredibly done. thanks for this!
it would be extremely interesting if you'd do more of these videos exposing scams around famous places.
if there's something people like to watch, is scammers getting caught in action!
congratulations for putting up together such great content! i'm a huge fan of yours.
cheers from Brazil!
@Bartosz Brown That has nothing to do with Orban you prick. There were actually way more scammers back in the 2000s under the “opposition”,lmao.
if your dumb enough to let the taxi driver to take the money from your hand instead if not calculating it and giving the right amout...... then u deserve to be scammed
@Bartosz Brown Budapest isn't conservative or even proper Hungary, bro. It's a typical degenerate city.
@Bartosz Brown It has nothing to do with Orban and co. These scams are all over Europe.
...yeah I mean. You don't let someone take nothing out your hands unless you give it to them.
Best video ever! Your channel was so fun, I missed it for years and again I'm back. Gonna binge all the latest videos haha
