Reminds me of a great waiter we came across in Barcelona. We were having the lunch menu and a dessert was included, so we asked what he would recommend. "Well, definitely none of the cakes because they're all frozen. The crema catalana, personally I wouldn't, I mean it's not thaaat bad but no, don't recommend it. The cheese with honey is usually great but today, no. We also have pudding but you don't want that." .... "So, what about some fruit?" "Ah yes, good idea. Let's see.... not the watermelon though. Also not the pineapple. We have fruit salad but that's a big no no. Maybe the pears but I can't really recommend them... definitely not the strawberries... you know what? An apple. An apple would be good." "Ok thanks, we'll just have a coffee" 😄
That reminds me of when I worked in customer support in Denmark where I got a call from a customer. The customer spoke Swedish to me (or so I thought) so I asked if we could speak in English as I didnt understand Swedish. There was silence for a moment followed by "I am from Norway". Not embarassing at all...
As a Mexican I can tell that none of the meals shown in the pictures of Don Taco seemed Mexican. Also, a Mexican restaurant without hot sauces??? Man, the tacos, the soup and that other thing they served you was awful. Although, Stefano service was great. Very kind.
I cringe at most of the so called Mexican restaurants outside of Mexico. The worst I have ever had was in Australia and in Costa Rica. Although nowadays you can find good and authentic Mexican food in some parts of the USA. The best Oaxacan food I have had outside of Oaxaca was in Los Ángeles, CA!

I think it's pretty common in the US for waiters to introduce themselves (so that's where he might have got the idea of doing that from) but they're definitely not always as courteous and kind as Stefan

I think like he tried to say the word like normally or often. Basically is kinda rude right. And this thing happens to me everytime because it's not my first language. Try to put a word and it doesn't really express what I want to say 😂😂
People like Stefano are the reason I would go back to a restaurant. He is such a charming person and PPPeter being such an honest and nice person to him, made me smile. The most important people in a restaurant isn't the customer, its the employees. If you treat your employees amazingly great and pay them accordingly, they will mostly reflect it on their performance. And no, its not by giving them a pizza Friday. I see this pattern in so many places where the employees just stop caring about what they do in their job, and believe it or not, this attitude spreads with the rest of the employees. Sadly, not everyone is Stefano, who even if they aren't having a good time, they give their best as possible. I used to work as a waiter in a restaurant for 2 years and on my last year, the manager left the job to pursue his career. The thing is that an employee that worked there for 8 years, took the position. That new manager was an asshole. Treated the employees AND customers like shit. Like I was dumbfounded on why the boss didn't fire him. Until I found out he is his friend. Like come on, even if he is his friend he shouldn't be letting that happen. I had to quit because manager was treating me like shit for helping other waiters to the point that I started crying in the parking lot. All of my tables where going great and all of them have been attended before I go help for a few seconds other waiters. 2 months later, a college from there told me that on the week that I left the place, many of the old employees quit on the spot. I was paid $4 per hours and the tips was shared and I had to work 60 hours per week only to get from $400 to $500 per week. At the same time I had to study in university. Was insanely stressing and I couldn't get a job else where, but no matter what I treated the customers as best as I could. 3 years later, I was on the plaza with some friends and I couldn't believe that some random lady was complaining with one of her friends about how bad the workplace was and she brings up the name of the restaurant. I couldn't believe that after 3 years the same guy was managing that place. Most of the employees are new. After 1 month that I had quit that place I got into a new restaurant. That new restaurant that I started working on was a blessing. The owner was always a charm and very open. The waiters always helped each other even if the tips wasn't shared. The owner which is the Chef would be making some random dishes that she might add to the menu and gives us a taste to see what we think of it. Mostly were fantastic. And that never happened to me on the last job that I hated, like you almost never saw the owner and it was only if something special was happening on the restaurant. On the new place I was paid $8 per hour, that is a lot for a waiter from where I live. I only had to work from Thursday to Sunday at 5:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. That is 20 hours per week and I managed to make $500 to $700 in just those 4 days because the flow of tips was very great. Even if she is nice, if a customer treats any of her employees badly or abuse of their service, she will leave the kitchen and ask whats going on. If the customer gets on her nerves and starts to make a scene, she will gladly tell them to fuck off and to leave the place. Only a few times that happened and you seriously have to be a piece of shit to get that. I'm not saying that she was perfect, but I would surely work there again if needed. What I saw is that even if your prices are high and you pay your employees greatly, if everyone in the place is having a spectacular time, everyone will want to come back and that is the best mindset. She even treated us with some drinks or deserts according to our performance. Nobody wanted to leave the place, even me. After 3 years I had to sadly leave to pursue my profession and she was the first boss in my whole life that actually gave me a hug before I left. I know that this was long, but I think that by sharing my experience, it might give others a new view on how to manage your workplace and this applies to any job, not just restaurants. So, the whole “Cinnamon and Orange” with tequila thing is a German thing. Americans generally do tequila with salt and a lime. Interestingly, Mexicans typically just drink their tequila straight up, without any such silliness. Of course, that’s easier with better tequila that what you encountered in Moldova. 😉 🌵
We drink tequila with salt and lime as well in Germany. Never heard of tequila with cinnamon and orange. But a good tequila doesn’t need any additional ingredient.
Mexicans dont really drink blanco or golden Tequila at all. At best they wash there genitals with it or use it as hand sanatizer. Mexicans have soooo tasty Tequila: The long aged Anejo or Reposado type. You easily drink it like a good rum or Whisky. Pure of course. Never as a shot or in Cocktail.
@@timtropicc2675 I am not a huge tequila drinker but the ones I’ve tried in our regular Kneipe were served with lime and salt. Tried a few others and I had them pure. Ofc there is a difference of price between 2 to 10 euros for a shot 😅. So I tend to think that the quality ones don’t need anything extra. They already had a distinct special flavour on their own. I agree with that, but I can see why foreigners don't make the distinction. Romanian and Russian can't be more different as languages but due to centuries of occupation, the Moldovan accent began to sound so much the like the Russian one. Even I as a Romanian from Muntenia, although I understand what they're saying, it takes me half a second to process it because it sounds funny.
Most Moldovan speak Russian and the older generation from Romania speaks Russian as well, I've got to know many Romanians that spoke Russian and didn't meet any Moldovan that did not speak Russian.

"Brazilian sangria"? This is fu..ng insane. As a Brazilian I wonder where that came from (sangria is not so popular here and mostly available only in spanish restaurants). But when you have paella in a mexican restaurant anything should be possible. If Stefano becomes a local celebrity maybe Don Taco will get finally better. As a Mexican, I found this hilarious. The food was like a parody of Mexican cuisine. The menu was utterly insane. How do you mess up a taco that much? But the most ‘offensive’ thing was them being stingy on the sauce. Any restaurant in Mexico will give you Tabasco, Valentina and a green sauce bottle freely.

I live in the Bronx, NY and have never been to any part of Europe in my whole life but I still highly enjoy watching Peter and Vlad travel throughout the many countries in Europe to enjoy some cuisine or to check out and review the many shite hotels that Europe has to offer! :-)

Don Taco's concept is that is it half Mexican and half Romanian. That's why you could find both cuisines on the menu. There was a Don Taco once in Bucharest as well but it closed down... And a few more small things: I have no idea how it is in other countries but you seemed surprised that there are restaurants in malls. That's not uncommon in our countries. Mămăligă, if you didn't already know, is a traditional dish in Romania and Moldova. I love that Stefano recommended it. Lovely video as always!

it was easy for Romanians to adopt the Slavic "Da" because they were surrounded by Slavs and the original Romanian word was something from the Latin "Ita" which sounds similar in a conversation

As a Mexican (born and raised and I live in Mexico), I can tell that this food looks like Tex Mex or some fake Mexican food. It´s expected because I guess that the ingredients are hard to find. Saludos desde México.

Romanian language is considered one of the romantic languages. It sounds very Italian w a Slavic mix to me . Romanian language is very beautiful and so are the people and country. ❤️ Will be my next vacation destination for sure. I'm a Czech-slovkian -American born in USA , I can understand bits of Czech-Slovak language. My Czech family refused to teach us Czech as child. And told me daily you are. American and only a loud to speech English
Holy hell. I've been to MANY Mexican restaurants in my time, and my god. I've never seen tacos that look like that. What the hell was the filling? It looked like Chitlins with a block of cheese melted on top, in a very burned taco shell. That did NOT look like a "Mexican Taco". It was about as far from a "Mexican Taco" as you could get. And a Mexican restraint with no "Spice", or "Kick", and no hot sauce right there at the table? That would be enough to take away the title of "Mexican food" from ANY place here. The last thing you expect with Mexican food is... bland.
Premade meats/veggies put into one of those hard taco shells from the store with cheese on top, then put in a oven to burn the edges, and that's being kind. In reality it's probably premade and frozen, and they heat them up in the oven. That would explain why they are so burnt as they need to thaw out first.
I lived in Romania and Molodova for many years. I am from Texas and an expert cook of Tex-Mex. I looked all over both countries for ingredients. There are none, and there are no hot peppers, no jalapenos. They have "ardei ute," which are very mild, but they consider hot. Finally I found pinto beans and was able to make refritos. But, no corn chips or tortillas. I loved seeing this video. I was in that "Moll" many times. In their defense, Romanian cuisine is divine.
I'm going to Moldova in less than a month, I'll go to Don Taco and see if they got some hot sauce on the tables yet :D Love your videos PPPeter, from the UK

Low-key got poisoned here - twice - back when i was a kid i was kind of addicted with Mexican food and there wasn't a lot of choice in Chișinău - The only nice "Mexican" place out there is El Paso for sure - it's been open for almost 30 years for a reason

From someone who worked in a authentic Mexican restaurant with Mexicans: tequila is supposed to be drunk without lime or salt. The cinnamon and salt are just for tourists. Also,they used so called hard shell tacos which are actually a tex mex dish and not authentically Mexican as well as the corn and kidney dishes. In Mexico,corn is used to make tortillas and they use frijoles (black beans) instead of kidney beans :)

Most were actually brazilian, or south american foods, they mustve confused spanish speaking and mexican or something.
This is what happens when Moldovans, Rumanians, Bulgarians, Russians and Ukrainians imagine tacos. I'm not surprised they used a lot of cream.

People like Stefano are the reason I would go back to a restaurant. He is such a charming person and PPPeter being such an honest and nice person to him, made me smile.
The most important people in a restaurant isn't the customer, its the employees.
If you treat your employees amazingly great and pay them accordingly, they will mostly reflect it on their performance. And no, its not by giving them a pizza Friday.
I see this pattern in so many places where the employees just stop caring about what they do in their job, and believe it or not, this attitude spreads with the rest of the employees. Sadly, not everyone is Stefano, who even if they aren't having a good time, they give their best as possible.
I used to work as a waiter in a restaurant for 2 years and on my last year, the manager left the job to pursue his career. The thing is that an employee that worked there for 8 years, took the position. That new manager was an asshole. Treated the employees AND customers like shit. Like I was dumbfounded on why the boss didn't fire him. Until I found out he is his friend. Like come on, even if he is his friend he shouldn't be letting that happen. I had to quit because manager was treating me like shit for helping other waiters to the point that I started crying in the parking lot. All of my tables where going great and all of them have been attended before I go help for a few seconds other waiters. 2 months later, a college from there told me that on the week that I left the place, many of the old employees quit on the spot. I was paid $4 per hours and the tips was shared and I had to work 60 hours per week only to get from $400 to $500 per week. At the same time I had to study in university. Was insanely stressing and I couldn't get a job else where, but no matter what I treated the customers as best as I could.
3 years later, I was on the plaza with some friends and I couldn't believe that some random lady was complaining with one of her friends about how bad the workplace was and she brings up the name of the restaurant. I couldn't believe that after 3 years the same guy was managing that place. Most of the employees are new.
After 1 month that I had quit that place I got into a new restaurant. That new restaurant that I started working on was a blessing. The owner was always a charm and very open. The waiters always helped each other even if the tips wasn't shared. The owner which is the Chef would be making some random dishes that she might add to the menu and gives us a taste to see what we think of it. Mostly were fantastic. And that never happened to me on the last job that I hated, like you almost never saw the owner and it was only if something special was happening on the restaurant.
On the new place I was paid $8 per hour, that is a lot for a waiter from where I live. I only had to work from Thursday to Sunday at 5:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. That is 20 hours per week and I managed to make $500 to $700 in just those 4 days because the flow of tips was very great.
Even if she is nice, if a customer treats any of her employees badly or abuse of their service, she will leave the kitchen and ask whats going on. If the customer gets on her nerves and starts to make a scene, she will gladly tell them to fuck off and to leave the place. Only a few times that happened and you seriously have to be a piece of shit to get that. I'm not saying that she was perfect, but I would surely work there again if needed.
What I saw is that even if your prices are high and you pay your employees greatly, if everyone in the place is having a spectacular time, everyone will want to come back and that is the best mindset.
She even treated us with some drinks or deserts according to our performance. Nobody wanted to leave the place, even me.
After 3 years I had to sadly leave to pursue my profession and she was the first boss in my whole life that actually gave me a hug before I left.
I know that this was long, but I think that by sharing my experience, it might give others a new view on how to manage your workplace and this applies to any job, not just restaurants.

So, the whole “Cinnamon and Orange” with tequila thing is a German thing. Americans generally do tequila with salt and a lime. Interestingly, Mexicans typically just drink their tequila straight up, without any such silliness. Of course, that’s easier with better tequila that what you encountered in Moldova. 😉 🌵
We drink tequila with salt and lime as well in Germany. Never heard of tequila with cinnamon and orange. But a good tequila doesn’t need any additional ingredient.
Probably the usual shxx tequila , so it does not matter much ;-)
Mexicans dont really drink blanco or golden Tequila at all. At best they wash there genitals with it or use it as hand sanatizer. Mexicans have soooo tasty Tequila: The long aged Anejo or Reposado type. You easily drink it like a good rum or Whisky. Pure of course. Never as a shot or in Cocktail.

@@timtropicc2675 I am not a huge tequila drinker but the ones I’ve tried in our regular Kneipe were served with lime and salt. Tried a few others and I had them pure. Ofc there is a difference of price between 2 to 10 euros for a shot 😅. So I tend to think that the quality ones don’t need anything extra. They already had a distinct special flavour on their own. I agree with that, but I can see why foreigners don't make the distinction.
Romanian and Russian can't be more different as languages but due to centuries of occupation, the Moldovan accent began to sound so much the like the Russian one. Even I as a Romanian from Muntenia, although I understand what they're saying, it takes me half a second to process it because it sounds funny.

Most Moldovan speak Russian and the older generation from Romania speaks Russian as well, I've got to know many Romanians that spoke Russian and didn't meet any Moldovan that did not speak Russian.

"Brazilian sangria"? This is fu..ng insane. As a Brazilian I wonder where that came from (sangria is not so popular here and mostly available only in spanish restaurants). But when you have paella in a mexican restaurant anything should be possible. If Stefano becomes a local celebrity maybe Don Taco will get finally better. As a Mexican, I found this hilarious. The food was like a parody of Mexican cuisine. The menu was utterly insane. How do you mess up a taco that much? But the most ‘offensive’ thing was them being stingy on the sauce. Any restaurant in Mexico will give you Tabasco, Valentina and a green sauce bottle freely.

That worst reviewed restaurant had one of the best reviewed servers. Stefano, if you are watching, you will do better by working in the hotel industry, especially if it is an international chain. I think they pay better too.

I've eaten at some upmarket restaurants in my time and honestly Stefan matches the level of service with attention and friendliness of the service staff in those. He's a terrific waiter and obviously a good guy. Wish him all the best

Don Taco's concept is that is it half Mexican and half Romanian. That's why you could find both cuisines on the menu. There was a Don Taco once in Bucharest as well but it closed down...
And a few more small things:
I have no idea how it is in other countries but you seemed surprised that there are restaurants in malls. That's not uncommon in our countries.
Mămăligă, if you didn't already know, is a traditional dish in Romania and Moldova. I love that Stefano recommended it.

As someone who works in the service industry, I could never understand why people give servers attitude over something out of their control. But you guys were still good to Stefano because you understand that.
As a Mexican (born and raised and I live in Mexico), I can tell that this food looks like Tex Mex or some fake Mexican food. It´s expected because I guess that the ingredients are hard to find. Saludos desde México.

Romanian language is considered one of the romantic languages. It sounds very Italian w a Slavic mix to me . Romanian language is very beautiful and so are the people and country. ❤️ Will be my next vacation destination for sure. I'm a Czech-slovkian -American born in USA , I can understand bits of Czech-Slovak language. My Czech family refused to teach us Czech as child. And told me daily you are. American and only a loud to speech English

Holy hell. I've been to MANY Mexican restaurants in my time, and my god. I've never seen tacos that look like that. What the hell was the filling? It looked like Chitlins with a block of cheese melted on top, in a very burned taco shell. That did NOT look like a "Mexican Taco". It was about as far from a "Mexican Taco" as you could get. And a Mexican restraint with no "Spice", or "Kick", and no hot sauce right there at the table? That would be enough to take away the title of "Mexican food" from ANY place here. The last thing you expect with Mexican food is... bland.
Taco Bell hasn't even made a concoction as bad as that "taco"
Premade meats/veggies put into one of those hard taco shells from the store with cheese on top, then put in a oven to burn the edges, and that's being kind. In reality it's probably premade and frozen, and they heat them up in the oven. That would explain why they are so burnt as they need to thaw out first.
That's Moldova... 99.9% of population has never been to Mexico...and chefs working in the mitchen never tried real mexican food.
I lived in Romania and Molodova for many years. I am from Texas and an expert cook of Tex-Mex. I looked all over both countries for ingredients. There are none, and there are no hot peppers, no jalapenos. They have "ardei ute," which are very mild, but they consider hot. Finally I found pinto beans and was able to make refritos. But, no corn chips or tortillas. I loved seeing this video. I was in that "Moll" many times. In their defense, Romanian cuisine is divine.

YES, you should have mixed everything in the "mămăliga" dish. The cheese with the mămăliga and the egg(s). That alone should have been delicious.
We don't usually put eggs only cream mămăligă and cheese but only some type of cheese

Low-key got poisoned here - twice - back when i was a kid i was kind of addicted with Mexican food and there wasn't a lot of choice in Chișinău - The only nice "Mexican" place out there is El Paso for sure - it's been open for almost 30 years for a reason

As an American, I have never heard of using cinnamon and orange with gold tequila. I am intrigued. We use salt and lime with all tequilas.

From someone who worked in a authentic Mexican restaurant with Mexicans: tequila is supposed to be drunk without lime or salt. The cinnamon and salt are just for tourists. Also,they used so called hard shell tacos which are actually a tex mex dish and not authentically Mexican as well as the corn and kidney dishes. In Mexico,corn is used to make tortillas and they use frijoles (black beans) instead of kidney beans :)
