I was really touched by the note the protagonist leaves talking about how the player urges her onwards. It's rare for a game to make me feel like we really impacted somebody so personally and deeply. Well done by the developer.
Not to mention Vivo means "in a living being" or "in something alive". So "Lost in Vivo" literally means "Lost in a living being", which fits in cleanly with most of this theory.
Vivo means alive in Spanish, which makes the title much better, people here say he's alive, está vivo, did that example to let you understand it better. Living means viviendo, but living being would be, ser vivo, which is also a good translation

I think the nightmare ending is also a representation of the character going too far into their therapy journey, breaking them mentally. The murky environment(so-called heaven) is now no different from the manhole(hell) they came out of. This journey has only shown our character the worst, making them believe that there isn't or won't be a good ending(an end to their suffering/trauma). edit: too deep as in she couldn't mentally handle her fears thus instead of coming out of the journey as a changed person she returns the same as before, suffering from the same traumas. It doesn't matter how deep she went already because if she isn't mentally prepared for it, that is what will break her.
Personally, I see the Nightmare ending in a thematical sense as the protagonist misinterpreting the lessons learned from her therapy (possibly due to not approaching it from a mindset of hope, but self-loathing desperation) and coming out more paranoid, cynical and hateful. Imo, it′d be weird for the game to spread the message that "it can be hard and horrifying, but delving into your mind, facing your fears and finding hope despite your inner demons is important and will lead to a better life in the end," and then say "but don′t delve TOO deep!" would be kinda contradictory to the message, seeing how deep the protagonist went already.
Very interesting interpretation that does work with what is provided in the nightmare ending. I do agree with that perhaps the journey of confronting the personal turn the "heaven" and "hell" of the protagonist essentially the same. However, I do think that it coincides with the protagonist embracing the "worst" of herself, that the fears, monsters and the "hell" that once was thought as worst and need to be eliminate (overcome) had become the "heaven" or the good the protagonist is seeking for at the end of the tunnel. The sacrifice to summon bayogota, in this case, serves 2 purposes as: 1. to connect the mythology or world building from the first game to this game by the same developer but also 2. to show the descend of the protagonist into cult, rituals, and taboo of actions (symbolise by the protagnoist willingness to sacrifice a child skull or figuratively a child after overcoming the trauma of her malnuture her child/fetus, perhaps she feel that death of her baby as a sacrifice with this new found thinking as a conclusion at the end of the journey?). Differ from the other bad endings where the inability to overcome her fears ends with bleak and sadness of the scenery still viewing what's in the sewers / her worst monsters as terrifying and horrible, she now embraces the darkness no longer just staying but more so merging with the darkness. Probably the protagonist will go on a killing spree after the nightmare ending as indicating by the text that show up that membranes drip from the sky and suffocate the landscape. (perhaps the killing blinds the surroundings and the protagonist no longer could go back into the sewer to the good end) At the end, this is just an interpretation as the game is present the message as more symbolic than literal, so take it with a grain of salt.
I like how when you say claustrophobic you show footage of a monster giant head and arms first is following the player into the small room in order to scare the viewer.
The toxic lover(s) and loss of child traumas hit WAY too close to home, but it warmed my heart to hear you discuss them calmly like that, and as part of her healing process, and that it’s symbolically hard to get to the point of acceptance. Keep up the good work Mike!

I really don't think the lab part is reality, it seems to be a representation of the fear of the hospital, with possible malpractice themes. The nightmare ending could be a reference to falling into either psychosis, or being vulnerable to cult indoctrination, as cults target those who are vulnerable and exploit their trauma and/or isolation.
Agree (hospital-lab theory). There's a big issue with people with mental illnesses refusing to accept they're sick/that they need help and it does seem to be what is represented there
@@SiffrinISAT Honestly cant blame anyone for thinking like that. My Uncle was best buddys with a guy who was in the army. It seems something bad happened there to him. Years later he was taken to a mental hospital. He came out as what my uncle called a "living vegetable". He said he lost all his personality and joy. He was just functioning for work.
Fun fact: in the Nezumi Testing logo, the "N" in Nezumi and "esting" in testing are underlined, if you put both of the underlined sections together, it spells "Nesting". This is most likely to show the "nesting" of the monsters in the labs we go through in the game.
Just to add on, "nezumi" is "rat/mouse" in Japanese. Makes it seem like a pun on both the rat test subjects, and for "rat's nest", a place that's excessively complicated and disorderly, much like the goings on in the area (or the protag's mental state.)
What if the brains comments are actually from the protagonist’s ex? That would explain why it sounds male in voice and constantly berates the protagonist. Also what if the thing that only attacks when you’re not looking from the lab (forgot the name) represents how the protagonist views random people, perfectly docile when she sees them but then they become violent monsters and attack her (probably stemming from her fear of what others think about her)
This game really hits home for me I used to be in her same situation and I’ve overcome it but still the thoughts and words of what others said still lingers cause of the strong emotion that spewed out with said words 💜
This game reminds me of EMDR therapy for PTSD. You have to confront your feelings, triggers and emotions and then it gets replaced with stronger bonds, acceptance and better memories. It’s really tough work and a few people I know weren’t able to finish it. Sometimes if you’re not able to complete it it can leave you worse for wear but if you’re willing to work on yourself you will see progress.
I have an interesting question: does anyone else feel like the voice of protag's brain is actually the voice of her toxic ex? The tone and the choice wording/phrasing ("I know you better than anyone, and I know you're weak/You'll come right back") sounds an awful lot like him to me
Perhaps it could be that the gaslighting of the boyfriend to the protagonist has been so ingrained that it plays out like a radio from her brain, so yeah could be.
I think you misinterpreted the notes. Our protagonist, meant to be a husk for the player, is still gender neutral. The notes belong to the ghost girl (AKA Jane Exspiravit) according to the wiki. As we see in the gallery, her as the enemy and the white silhouette are the same. If the patient endured HER own trauma, it's because they're living the vivo of everyone. And Jane, decided to save them by blocking the train because they teached her to accept herself. Also, the 'orbs of light' are considered 'ghosts'.
@@AggressiveSpaghetti Actually, the creator did confirm it in an interview that he haved with a fan of the game, you'r not the one leaving the notes, but the one meeting with someone that was in a similar situation as you, and that you weren't alone through all the pain and problems during all the game.
Great analysis, although I can't help but notice that you didn't really find a way to integrate the whole laboratory part into the psyche of the protagonist, either. Perhaps it really is separate and a real occurrence. Or perhaps we're still missing something.
Make sure to cover Lunacid as well. It’s made by the same developer. None of the tapes are connected to the main story at all besides tape 1, the developer confirmed so. I always thought the ghost girl was the one writing the notes.
Even though I knew nothing about this game prior to watching this, I still enjoyed this video so much! I love all your story explained videos, some of them have even become my comfort videos haha!!
The ruger .22 target pistol is such an oddly specific choice, I feel it has to represent something, but I’ve no idea what. Was is just the lowest caliber pistol the dev could find, so they could make it deal low damage? I don’t know, but it’s super strange to me.
I mean, the only other firearm you have is a anti-riot shotgun with salt-rock shells. I think Kira just didn't want the player to have too much firepower. Perhaps it could represent how weak the protagonist feels against her own fears
The Ruger Standard (the model is mostly the Mark 2) is a super common pistol. It being in .22 long is just because it’s a super SUPER common round. If you wanna take everything as allegory it’s possible it represents the player owning a firearm, perhaps for self defense due to whatever incident they’ve suffered. but being unsure and unfamiliar with it and causing it to jam on the few times they practice with it, leading them to view it as “damaged.” The riot shotgun might indicate past experiences with protesting and police reactions.
I remember when the game was about the story of someome who had to find it's lost dog and the idea that the dog was just something from it's own imagination, didn't expect it to get this dark
Actually the notes were left by Jane not the protagonist, Jane is the one who had an eating disorder and choose to end her own life after her boyfriend left her.
Wow.. Hits home, so much- Especially the body positivity part, I’ve always hated a certain area of my body, not going to say what part, and it just hit me hard. Also, paranoia/ schizophrenia area is quite a hard-hitter. Just the first note shown that got me.
Hey man. Hope you're doing ok. I hate to hear this sort of thing. I myself have and do suffer from disphoria, and it's something no one should ever feel, I believe. Take care of yourself, and stay safe. You're amazing.
The laboratory name can also be read as a "Rat's nest". if you look closely, the N in "nezumi" and ESTING in "testing" are underscored, if we combine the 2 we read NESTING, and also, Nezumi means Rat in japanese, so I guess that's what the developers were going with there
Dr Piccinini is very likely meant as a reference too, to Patricia Piccinini, who makes some very interesting grotesque artworks of animal-like creatures with human-like skin.
This is why I like this channel, shb isn't one of those tubers who says their version of a theory is fact. My personal interpretation is the story was about the ghost girl and we the player are a manifestation of sorts of her and we're helping her move on.
If you check credits and scroll down, you can see a name "Mr. Kravin" as a Dog Handler, If you didn't know, Mr Kravin is a youtuber who played a lot of horror games and the Dog is in fact Mr Kravin Pet Corgi, Also there's the mersus tapes DLC which is made by Mr. Kravin himself if i guessed it right
Petition for Mike to review _"The Hex"_ next. It's another game made by Daniel Mullins and is supposedly in The Same Canon as Inscryption. I would love to see your interpretation and possibly even gameplay of it.
personally, i think the labs symbolized how she felt as if her partner was her "savior", given that sotiris means "salvation" and she felt as if her partner was her savior since they made her feel good about herself for once, and then the monsters represent their abusive nature towards her. and i think as far as the eyes go, since she was let out when she found them, that could be her realization, or her partner seeing they dont love her, and the false ending could be her feeling of escape leaving when said partner left her.
The notes in the subway are not from the protagonist I actually believe every single note is not from the protagonist. but in the subway it’s from a ghost girl that killed herself on the train and that’s why you heard that scream. and she thought the baby that she had was a parasite so she killed herself and that ghost girl is what chases you in the subway.
I remember playing a version of this in front chat with three friends and among other things of playing games with close friends you can imagine the dumb stuff we did with it, one including running down a pipe screaming “are you winning son!?” And pointing out that the we’re not looking for our dinner, rather we just found it and went, you’re name is dinner
This is all reminding me of when my friends tried to get me over my fears I did get over a few but the rest of them got worse I am no longer friends with them anymore because they use to make fun of it :/ ( this video is good by the way and sorry for the personal things )
I’m so sorry :( I’m glad your no longer friends with them because they don’t sound like true friends. I hope your better now and find people that accept you :) 💗💗💗
You’re stronger than you know. It’s also natural to end up parting ways during different times of your life especially while young and you’re figuring out who you are. Sometimes people just grow apart as you are going on entirely new paths .I am sure you are going to get through this. It’s so hard when you lose friends, but it’s going to get so much better for you when you find the right people. Your old social circle doesn’t sound like people you wanna surround yourself with or true friends. True friends lift you up , not push you down . Good things are coming if they’re not already here for you. Take care of yourself. :) xo
For the lab portion of the game I thought that it could do with the trauma of having to trial medications to help the protagonist with their health. A lot of mentally ill people, especially those with harsher mental illnesses, often talk about how hard it is to find a good medication specifically tailored to them with little to no side effects. You even mentioned in your Fran Bow video how they were treating her as a lab rat with different types of meds, just throwing them at Fran and seeing if anything stuck. The only way this possible theory gets debunked is because of the monsters and reference to GL Labs. GL Labs being responsible for some of the monsters in Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion is proof that Dr. Picinini wasn't just one mad scientist who happened to work in conjunction with GL Labs, meaning his monster isn't just some one-off. This, in my opinion, means that the lab section is more likely something more than symbolism. There's possibly only one other theory to explain this: Everything in Vivo Exposure Therapy is real. The protagonist is, in fact, facing REAL dangers. I don't believe it was mentioned anywhere that this was a simulation therapy for the protagonist. Though there are some plotholes for this as well, I believe it makes a bit more sense in reference to the lab section. I believe GL Labs regularly creates abominations and just does about anything they want with them. Perhaps they extended into medicine as well as psychiatry to find more use for their monsters. I believe when Vivo Exposure Therapy is offered to someone, it's offered under the guise of a simulation treatment, when it is actually real. I don't believe the protagonist was meant to find the labs, much less come to know to much about Bayagototh. There is one damning piece of evidence against this though, at that is the Maggoty Coffin reffering to the other sections being about other people. Still though, I think it's an interesting theory to play with
The trial medications theory is one I can agree with. I’m still fighting my battle with that personally, it’s rough and it sucks. But it’s gonna get there, I hope if you’re going through it too it’s getting easier for you 💛
@@EmmyLayton I'm sorry youre going through that, I hope you can find a medication that helps soon, or balance and stability at the very least. You deserve to thrive, not just mentally but in all facets of life ❤

this is my first time hearing about this game, and wow it left me devastated. I've similarly struggled very heavily with bulimia and childhood trauma. It is very nice to see the protagonist make it out in the good ending, kind of gives me hope for myself :'). I haven't fully healed yet, but I'm doing my best to work towards it
As someone who suffered from bulimia for a period of time the symbolism the game used for it and overcoming it hit way to hard. I get seen and understood in a way I didn’t know I needed
damn, so many updates were made to this game. i remember it as going into the sewers to find your doggy, i didn’t realize how much more was added and how deep the story was. Psychological horror games like this, Silent Hill and Alice Madness Returns that have heavy symbolism, weird creatures and a deep story are my absolute favourite. Also really love the little Lovecraftian creature bayagototh, i adore hp lovecraft.
I just wanted to point out that the Ratmen look a lot like this character from Zdzisław Beksiński's painting "crawling death", which also can link to the Black Death with was caused by rats so that just a little detail that I like very much!
I like to think the eyeless man in the start is her dad, and himlosing his eyes are a figure of speech for him losing sight of things, and we hurt him out of fear and hurt him when he's trying to return
Fun fact for all the new viewers Mike has actually briefly covered the ghost girl before on the channel in scariest ghost girl encounters in video games
If you want to play a really scary game, play "you are grounded". That one deals with parental abuse and has one of the most scad (scary sad) moments in a horror game.
Mate, don't use the word 'scad'. It sounds too much like scat, that's gross. Just say scary & sad, you don't gotta smash every single descriptor word together, you ain't gonna come up with the next smad joke
Even tho I didn't have a toxic relationship nor lost a baby, I have thought, and even went on my way to off myself. Please, whoever you are, I know it is hard, therapy isn't a magical pill, but you can help to accept yourself, and learn to cut toxic people out of your live, you will fail, but you can alway get up for yourself . You are worth it
A thought - do you think the name “Brundle” is a reference to the movie “The Fly”? There seems to be a theme of insects in this game and I thought that was fun
I like the references to spookys jumpscare mansion! It's both cool and funny because spookys jumpscare mansion is littered with Easter eggs and references to other classic horror games
I played this game and actually had to stop for 3 years because it felt too close to home for me so when i finally played it again and beat it finally i was straight up sobbing and my boy best friend who had been there the entire time with me to help me through it just sat there and hugged me for hours until i stopped crying over all of it as a child i would throw up whatever food i ate and my mental health got so bad i tried to drive off a bridge once i didnt manage to go through with it but this game brought so much back i thought i got past and when i finally managed to complete the game it really felt like that dark part of me was gone like all of that effort was like healing for me and im truly grateful
Hey Mike, fantastic video as always. A few things: When referring to male or female, the term is “sex.” Gender refers to stereotypes expected of males & females, such as masculinity & femininity respectively. I don’t know if YT would demonetize a video for correctly stating the word “sex.” I’d hope not. Gender is conceptual & has been supplemented as a “polite version” of the term “biological sex,” which is incorrect. Gender is not a substitution for the term sex. They’re very different from one another. Gender denotes the immaterial (the conceptual), & sex is the material (the reality). Hope that makes sense. As well, eating disorders have become a bit more complex in classification in recent years. Anorexia used to be assigned due to amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle), anemia (low iron), practice of starvation, lanugo (fine hair that grows when the body is malnourished), & more. Back then, there was no classification for those who practiced starvation & purging (forceful vomiting). Now we have a classification referred to as Anorexia Purging Subtype. This is likely what the protagonist has as opposed to Bulimia. Bulimia involves binging (eating severe excess of food by thousands of calories) & purging, though of course many bulimics practice starvation. The key is the binging & purging pattern. Many who have eating disorders will shift between behaviors during their life, & could end up diagnosed with different EDs as they go on. Because it’s emphasized that the protagonist starves & purges, & there’s no mention of binging, we could classify her disorder as Anorexia Purging Subtype. Lastly, I agree that the level featuring the black, winged enemy & the beds full of bugs indicates some form of child abuse. When you grow up with abuse, you’re left feeling disconnected from the idea of “home.” That loss of a stable fixture leads to chronic restlessness-nowhere feels safe, & nothing can fix that displacement. Coming to terms with that is often very difficult for adults who have suffered from child abuse & lost the ability to “return to” their childhood home. Perhaps more obvious is the bed & its infestation. I think this frames the bed as a source for the protagonist’s childhood trauma, & may then indicate that she was sexually abused. Thanks for all the time you put into this series & every series. Much appreciated as always!
Psychology major here :) eating disorders aren’t my focus, but I do have some knowledge that I’d like to share. “Compensatory behaviors” also include misusing laxatives, diuretics, and enemas. While self induced vomiting is a fairly common behavior seen with certain eating disorders, it is not necessary for diagnosis. The individual could be misusing laxatives only and that would count as a compensatory behavior. They could also be doing that while simultaneously partaking in self induced vomiting at other times. Not to mention, the behaviors usually change over time. The binge/purge subtype and Bulimia aren’t super different in regards to their diagnostic criteria, but they do have different outcomes. Typically the individual with Anorexia will have a low BMI (tends to get dangerously low) while Bulimia is associated with a high BMI. People with Anorexia usually show more restrictive dietary habits too. Another little thing is that Anorexia Nervosa has a strong genetic risk factor; we see differences in the metabolic system and brain. To summarize, AN and BN (and other eating disorders) can have overlap, but there are parts of the diagnostic criteria and traits that are specific to each.
I like how Nexumi Testing are underlined, well, specifically the letters in them, making the word "Nesting". It was a disturbing and creepy nesting ground for the doctors (or scientists) creation's . Nice.
I wanna point out how the society standard of beauty room is placed on the right while path of accepting is on the left. I think it's really smart that the developers put it that way. In some culture, the right side is the "right" and correct way. Here it is brillantly placed there symbolising that while what the society believes is right, is doesn't mean is the best way.
When you restart the game sometimes you get the terribly spelled out "your in a coma, wake up!" message, which would make more sense overall. While in a coma from an experimental therapy, you spend time trying to overcome your trauma. Leaving the sewers is waking up after this.
if some creature drags my pet into the abyss i will take out a cross knife bible gun shotgun minigun turrent and anything else that can kill someone and go terminator mode
I like the detail at each ending where the manhole you climb towards to escape changes in a way depending on your choice. It symbolizes an eclipse, when you just begin the game then quickly escape back up it shows more than half the manhole covered and it's still foggy, whereas recovering the dog and your characters sanity the manhole revels to be completely open and its sunny as for the Nightmare sequence as you begin leaving the manhole you see the night sky instead. . .
8:04 oh that hurts, im struggling with my eating disorder currently (im slowly eating as im typing) and that just hurts. the “i look at the mirror and nothings changed” is exactly what i say to myself.
Did anyone notice the underlining on Nezumi Testing? I'll be back soon if "Nesting" is something important. Edit: there is a psychology term for "Human Nesting" which references changes in the behavior of women when they get pregnant. And there's tests that show it can be a VERY hard swing. I wonder if it's important to this story.
My headcannon is that all the events that happened in the game actually do happen. A reoccurring theme in the Devs games being the player being at some sort of precipice in their life before being drawn into a supernatural environment. To either succeed or give into the corruption and either die and strengthen the labyrinth or further push for the end of the world.
I do not think that rejecting the beauty standard is actually good for you, but rather accepting the way you are. If you are ugly, you should accept that, the same way you would accept not being smart. You shouldnt lie to yourself, because at some point you are going to realize that your lies about yourself arent real and it is going to hurt. It is clear that some people look less better than other and has nothing to do with society...

Fun fact: Specimen 8 (Deer Lord) makes a cameo in this game. Why? Well, the developer is Akuma Kira, the same dev who made Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion. This game also sheds a bit more light on the lore of Deer Lord. Specifically, it's relation with Bayagototh, a Lovecraftian deity that's basically a face carved into a tree.
A slight thing I noticed is that the underlined part of Nezumi Testing spells out NESTING which is something that happens to creatures when they have children, and nesting instints don't go away if the child dies. Not sure how that's relevant, but it's interesting ig

If you look at the parts that aren't underlined, it says "ezumit" which is actually completely meaningless.
@@Dogman_35 XD
What if the brains comments are actually from the protagonist’s ex? That would explain why it sounds male in voice and constantly berates the protagonist. Also what if the thing that only attacks when you’re not looking from the lab (forgot the name) represents how the protagonist views random people, perfectly docile when she sees them but then they become violent monsters and attack her (probably stemming from her fear of what others think about her)
That makes a lot of sense, I agree!

It's all just theories, fans can't know for sure what is true, it's all speculations
@@AggressiveSpaghetti
Actually, the creator did confirm it in an interview that he haved with a fan of the game, you'r not the one leaving the notes, but the one meeting with someone that was in a similar situation as you, and that you weren't alone through all the pain and problems during all the game.
Well I’m the player and a girl so the player is a girl, mystery solved

I don’t know, but it’s super strange to me.
i mean there are a lot of other low caliber pistols it could have been a Mauser
@@sassas1487 I agree, it’s just the only explanation I could think of.
If you wanna take everything as allegory it’s possible it represents the player owning a firearm, perhaps for self defense due to whatever incident they’ve suffered. but being unsure and unfamiliar with it and causing it to jam on the few times they practice with it, leading them to view it as “damaged.”
The riot shotgun might indicate past experiences with protesting and police reactions.
@@sassas1487 when you say Mauser do you meant the C96? Cause both the proper Mauser and 9mil Luger rounds aren’t exactly low caliber.

As someone who played this game back in January of 2019, I'm amazed at how many things in the game have been updated and added.
Kravin himself if i guessed it right
It took me awhile to realize that the GL Labs in this game was the same in spooky's jumpscare mansion I was so confused why the names were the same
Petition for Mike to review _"The Hex"_ next.
:) xo
I love how you cover games that are new, old, and everything in between
I wasn't fully paying attention to the lab name but it's foreshadowing
Nezumi means rat in Japanese
The second area could relate to capgras syndrome, which makes you think that other people have been replaced by impostors.
Among us?
idk why i just love how gentle and calm his voice is
For the lab portion of the game I thought that it could do with the trauma of having to trial medications to help the protagonist with their health.
There's possibly only one other theory to explain this:
Everything in Vivo Exposure Therapy is real.

Vivo means life in Spanish. This means the title is “lost in life.” This represents how MC is trying to find a way to fix her life and way of thinking, essentially being lost in life.

This game was very well done, your breakdown really makes the games meaning really show.
this is my first time hearing about this game, and wow it left me devastated.
Man it seems like everyone loves Dante's Inferno now-a-days!
No matter how it is depicted, lost in vivo will always be my favourite horror game.
damn, so many updates were made to this game. i remember it as going into the sewers to find your doggy, i didn’t realize how much more was added and how deep the story was. Psychological horror games like this, Silent Hill and Alice Madness Returns that have heavy symbolism, weird creatures and a deep story are my absolute favourite. Also really love the little Lovecraftian creature bayagototh, i adore hp lovecraft.
Today this video is 2 years old.
My thoughts on this is that the sewers might be a specimen like 7 from Spooky's that creates nightmares based on the victims traumas and fears.
It's funny, considering the dev for this game actually made SJM, and you can actually find Specimen 8 in the form of an easter egg within the game.

I like the small detail where the name of the lab has the underlined words "Nesting"

Fun fact for all the new viewers Mike has actually briefly covered the ghost girl before on the channel in scariest ghost girl encounters in video games

By following the loose Dante's Inferno reference, does that essentially make Danny Beatrice?
If you want to play a really scary game, play "you are grounded". That one deals with parental abuse and has one of the most scad (scary sad) moments in a horror game.
Mate, don't use the word 'scad'. It sounds too much like scat, that's gross. Just say scary & sad, you don't gotta smash every single descriptor word together, you ain't gonna come up with the next smad joke
Thanks for the advice.
Even tho I didn't have a toxic relationship nor lost a baby, I have thought, and even went on my way to off myself. You are worth it
A thought - do you think the name “Brundle” is a reference to the movie “The Fly”? There seems to be a theme of insects in this game and I thought that was fun

I would consider this a masterpiece the symbolism & hidden meaning they did so well 🙌💗
Hey Mike, fantastic video as always. A few things:
When referring to male or female, the term is “sex.” Gender refers to stereotypes expected of males & females, such as masculinity & femininity respectively.
I would love it if you played and made more story explained video for games like this

11:59 it also says her name is Jane E. Nice.
When you restart the game sometimes you get the terribly spelled out "your in a coma, wake up!" message, which would make more sense overall. While in a coma from an experimental therapy, you spend time trying to overcome your trauma. Leaving the sewers is waking up after this.

Virgil was Dante’s guide through hell and purgatory. I’m surprised you didn’t mention that considering your other references to the poems.
I like the detail at each ending where the manhole you climb towards to escape changes in a way depending on your choice.
It symbolizes an eclipse, when you just begin the game then quickly escape back up it shows more than half the manhole covered and it's still foggy, whereas recovering the dog and your characters sanity the manhole revels to be completely open and its sunny
as for the Nightmare sequence as you begin leaving the manhole you see the night sky instead. . .
