I find it ironic that the one of the only planets that’s said to contain life is called scythe. A weapon commonly associated with the grim reaper, the symbol of death.
The planet El'Leh used to have life but when that dumbass Dr. Carpenter opened that portal to Khyvin, it brought whatever lived on Khyvin onto El'Leh and killed everyone, though the creatures might still be there but it's doubtful because of environmental differences. Also, Carthanc used to be the civilized planet until the Carthancian Apocalypse happened and some of them managed to escape to Scythe!
It’s kinda funny that our way of combat in this game is typically ‘non-violent’. We’re using burgers to fight our opponents, not picking up weapons (or crafting those bombs to fight either come to think of it). The stimulation was originally designed as a means to remove the need yo use for violence. Seems interesting there isn’t a conventional way to fight inside it.

So, we got an evil corporation doing things they shouldn't and ended up dooming humanity with their Hubris. Why does it always have to be a giant evil company in horror games? Is it because of Resident Evil? Is it because they started the trend?
Good question. It would seem that there is a tendency for companies to become corrupt the larger they get, especially when they become corporations. There is so much power involved. That is why monopolies had to be dealt with back in the day. There are modern corporations that are basically new types of monopolies now. I know there are people that talk about how some tech companies have more power than countries. Maybe the trend in fiction is there because of artists observing reality.
Cuz it's typically more realistic for a group of individuals with power to do corrupt world-ending shit than some random shmoe living in their parents' basement or something?
Its harder for an evil mom and pop business to get to this level. Plus you can only accomplish so much with a single local establishment and a few teenagers that work part-time.
This game can easily be turned into a successful horror film. The only thing is that they may have to change Scythe to Earth, since it would confuse the audience.
unless your aiming for an "inception" or "total recall" situation where the ending may or may not just be part of the simulation. after all, the simulation is supposed to have a "trauma based climax" and that happened when we tried to break out.
1:26 I like this design of the burger mascot better then the final/modern one that's in the sequel. Looks more cute/approachable so seeing it turned dark and scary would it more unnerving but the current/modern one is already kind of unnerving which is no difference to some real life fast food mascots but I guess that's just my anthro animal appreciator bias talking.
@@DM-Oz There was another that showed that Happy Heifer design along with the rest of the Barnyard Buds in that style that was shown in this video but I have seemed to have lost track of it.

I don't know if you bring this up but I discovered it on my own but in the flashback in the resort, there's posters on the walls including those of missing people attached with subject names. E7 is one of them... and it was a five year old child, implying that E7 was the missing boy. So when they said that they've kidnapped him for years, they really meant _YEARS!_ It also proves that what we see in Barn wasn't his first experience.
Hey, I know you've just finished a spooky game, but I was honestly hoping you could play Paranormal HK. I don't know why, but learning the history of this games universe makes me think of Oddworld. I think it might just be the corporate despotism and dystopia, along with the level of lore of an alternate world
I really wanna learn more about toe and happy, very interesting video though! The game is very creepy but after learning about it, definably one of my favorite horror games! You always amaze me on how you can explain the story so simple almost like you created the game. Keep up the amazing work and I hope I can see more scary adventures!
You actually got your Happy's lore backwards. It was supposed to be more graphic and then was forced to be family friendly. After the original run, it went back to the PTSD nightmare that it was supposed to be, going back and forth from there. They were originally drawings from war notebooks done in the trenches, not school notebooks.
@@romaniglesias8331 Yeah it literally explains in the game that the doodles were done by a war veteran while in the trenches. However the thing about it starting graphic sounds wrong. But old cartoons weren’t actually for kids anyway, so idk
the amount of passion in this game's stories is INSANE. to have this very deep and complicated story in the medium of a video game is just amazing. I feel like a lot of creator (like myself) should absolutely take some inspiration. I want to make art and animations for video games as a career, and game like this and The Cult of The Lamb are huge inspirations. I absolutely love this game's story and visuals, the low quality in the simulation really emphasizes an uncanny feeling and horror
Not gonna lie, my favourite part of your gameplay was actually when you’re working in the farm and making the burgers and stuff, but only in the burger farm game. The burger barn one was a little mundane no offence
Bruh the scene where the workers die. •Gun shots and screams• 'Wait!' •flesh gets torn off or eaten• 'get it off! No no no!' •gets eaten• Damn sends chills down my spine every time
Awesome video! Quick question: how long was Ryder knocked out/asleep when remembering the event from 5 years earlier? VIC said it was a long time. And also, if it was a very long time, is Toe still alive? Is he still wandering aimlessly? Just asking these questions because I haven’t seen a play through that answers this.
I've not been this excited for a story explain/game explained since FNAF explained also FNAF is only a few day away from releasing security breech horray
My theory is that the workday could represent mental health. The monotonous cycle of the day repeating over and over again can represent how you can feel bored and useless in life, the wave of your own depression getting you stuck in what feels like a never ending cycle of repetition. Maybe V.I.C can represent a loved one or therapist helping you feel better and recover?
Idk why, but I would love to see a sequel of this game. Sort of seeing it like a trilogy in my mind, but to where we have to face happy, one final time
Fun Fact: Obscura can be Obscure if you translate in Portuguese Brazil, Fun Fact2: if you put the game in Portuguese, the translation on Charlie Nest will glitch, what happens: 1. When you get the Helmet at the vents it will turn into German, 2. when you enter the break room the text will turn into The Boss first convesation with you
This looks good. Now can you imagine...an open world version of this? Bouncing between VR and AR and reality, and high end Nation and graphics...and the budget required? Holy crap...order up!

It would be cool if we play in a squeal where we play as someone else in the other simulations and see what monsters were created from that. Graveyard Shift probably has to do with being the one burying bodies or being a mortician there could be zombies in that on Life Saver is definitely being a nurse and the monsters there would rogue patients who have come to life Thrill Seeker is either you are a customer or the owner/employee of the park and the monsters there are robots the park has or mascots as well

Evil corporation doing shady stuff is trope from the beginning of time almost. RE would have adopted it as well.
It's because it's usually corporations doing world ending nonsense in the name of profit, PR, or power.
Idk why it surprises me That his tone and voice sounds so serious in these videos but when it’s gameplay it’s normal
True, i also like that design the most
@@DM-Oz There was another that showed that Happy Heifer design along with the rest of the Barnyard Buds in that style that was shown in this video but I have seemed to have lost track of it.
I agree.
The other designs are way too "dumb" cartoon like for me and the creepy versions are disturbing to watch (the chicken however looks really cool with his evil smile).
Will you be doing a full “Monsters Explained” video like you did with Alice or Dark Deception? I watched the play through and stuff so I understand the context of them within the story, I just find those specific videos interesting.
I love these too! Especially with spookys house!
You're about 9 months too late for that buddy
Honestly, never once did I expect a game like this to have such a deep lore. It's amazing.
Been anxiously waiting for this since you finished the game. I kind of did wish you went more into detail about the assets, but maybe the future.
Thank you for bringing up the whole Scythian Solar System aspect! It's one of my favourite aspects of the Scythe Saga and I feel like not enough people know about it. I always get a kick when we get to learn more information about the other planets, especially the farthest ones!
😊😊😊
You got one tiny piece of information wrong. Maverick Cooper is a free lance reporter not a DJ. While it isn't mentioned here it is mentioned in their other game Cultists & Compounds.
How many games do they have?!
0:00 - Intro
0:29 - Part 1: A Mundane Existence
2:14 - Part 2: Happy Humble History
6:40 - Part 3: Monsterous Discoveries
11:49 - Part 4: Obscura & Paragon
19:39 - Part 5: The Assets
23:43 - Part 6: Escape the Barn

Good
You did an amazing job with this video, Mike!
That's a lot of STORIES for a one game, I'm amazed!
It’s because it’s not from one game. These stories that make up this game comes from about 17 years of work. Story making, albums, games.
@@cannolithearcticfox4405 That's why I said *I'M AMAZED!*
@@cannolithearcticfox4405 A lot of it is all in the single game though! Which is impressive
Man, this game is incredibly bizarre.
This was very well done wrapped everything up thanks mike :) I was wondering about how the creatures were made and now after this I understand :)
Seems like this game was very straight forward lore and story wise. It explained everything
Okay seriously, I can't stop watching this. I am a addict for game lore of any kind and this is my fix.
Glad to see I'm not the only one. Seems like I've been looking this video up at least once each day!
Everytime a new horror game come out he plays it uploads the info about it and I makes my day
I don't know if you bring this up but I discovered it on my own but in the flashback in the resort, there's posters on the walls including those of missing people attached with subject names.
The translation and lip syncing is a little weird, but I really like the ghosts and the stories behind them. I've looked everywhere for an explanation of the ghosts, and no one has done it. This is why you're always my go-to.
SHB Mike: "Grab a happy meal..."
Me: *Pauses video to order Mcdonalds
You, the player: Finding secrets that can change your life, that everything is a lie, that you are an experiment...
The game: The only thing you had to do is to make burgers...IS IT THAT HARD???
BTW nice video, i am a big fan of yours :)
A good handful of major horror gaming channels didn't do this game justice. The back story was so much deeper than was presented in their videos, and I'm glad to have stumbled on this one.
14:06
Same mistake as in the playthrough, the note says "Entrainment" not "Entertainment". I also got it wrong when I first read it but it made no sense so I read it again and got is right then ;)
I never would have thought that demo would end up as this. Really amazing!
I'm a sucker for lore so it was really cool hearing this story.
I'm new to the game, so I'm glad you explained it.
I don't know why, but learning the history of this games universe makes me think of Oddworld. I think it might just be the corporate despotism and dystopia, along with the level of lore of an alternate world
This whole thing feels like it should’ve been a dystopian sci Fi movie about consumerism or something.
I really wanna learn more about toe and happy, very interesting video though! The game is very creepy but after learning about it, definably one of my favorite horror games! You always amaze me on how you can explain the story so simple almost like you created the game. Keep up the amazing work and I hope I can see more scary adventures!
Same
You actually got your Happy's lore backwards. It was supposed to be more graphic and then was forced to be family friendly. After the original run, it went back to the PTSD nightmare that it was supposed to be, going back and forth from there. They were originally drawings from war notebooks done in the trenches, not school notebooks.
I doubt it.
@@romaniglesias8331 Yeah it literally explains in the game that the doodles were done by a war veteran while in the trenches. However the thing about it starting graphic sounds wrong. But old cartoons weren’t actually for kids anyway, so idk
@@romaniglesias8331 you can find the lore in the game. On some of the older panflets I think. You just have to did for the secrets.
the amount of passion in this game's stories is INSANE. to have this very deep and complicated story in the medium of a video game is just amazing.
This is one of those times where the SHB video is more interesting than the actual gameplay
Bruh the scene where the workers die.
•Gun shots and screams• 'Wait!' •flesh gets torn off or eaten•
'get it off! No no no!' •gets eaten•
Damn sends chills down my spine every time
Awesome video!
Toe is most likely still braindead at this point.
So E7's fate was at the end of the prologue game, the Barn, right?
Yes
No, they say in this game that they were moved from the barn to the diner and then to the place we are working at with Toe
This is the one game I’ve actually had a nightmare about
I've not been this excited for a story explain/game explained since FNAF explained also FNAF is only a few day away from releasing security breech horray
Fnaf is cringe and it’s no even good
@@BOOBERRY105 Your opinion, and idk how its cringe but ok
@@Pika782 it’s cringe every way and it’s a stupid horror game for kids
@@BOOBERRY105 that doesn't explain anything but ok-
My theory is that the workday could represent mental health. The monotonous cycle of the day repeating over and over again can represent how you can feel bored and useless in life, the wave of your own depression getting you stuck in what feels like a never ending cycle of repetition. Maybe V.I.C can represent a loved one or therapist helping you feel better and recover?
It makes more sense when the story is explained.
I was wondering for this game story and BAM
u just slapped it right on on TH-cam with what I want!
FINALLY A HHBF AKA HAPPY'S HUMBLE BURGER FARM
STORY EXPLAINED YEEEEEEEES
I've been waiting ever since I saw the part with Charlie the Chicken to see a story explained video of this game. finally!
0:23 lol I was eating a McDonald's happy meal
:[
Am I the only one who thinks their should be a movie adaptation of this?
23:59
This giving me outlast vibes.
The journalist
The whistle-blower
The capture
The terror
When a game where you make burgers actually turns out to be about intergalactic wars, mind control, false realities and government coverups
E7 sounds so damn happy when talking about escaping, I haven’t finished watching yet, but I get the feeling he’s dead
Boy this is ALOT Deeper than I thought I figured it was just a fast food joint that's haunted no more no less
“Child murderer who becomes fused with an animatronic and an entity”
Wonder where I’ve heard that before……..
thanks for doing an explain video on this! it was easy to digest with so much secrets & lore behind the game!
Idk why, but I would love to see a sequel of this game. Sort of seeing it like a trilogy in my mind, but to where we have to face happy, one final time
To basically save humanity and as well as spreading the truth about both obscura and paragon

Fun Fact: Obscura can be Obscure if you translate in Portuguese Brazil,
Fun Fact2: if you put the game in Portuguese, the translation on Charlie Nest will glitch, what happens: 1. When you get the Helmet at the vents it will turn into German, 2. when you enter the break room the text will turn into The Boss first convesation with you
"I'm loosing my memories" That fact Toe sounds so causal when taking about how he's loosening his memories made me laugh my ass off.
What makes this so eerie is that stuff like this is happening right now. Televisions, phones, marketing. They are all forms of mind control.
This looks good. Now can you imagine...an open world version of this? Bouncing between VR and AR and reality, and high end Nation and graphics...and the budget required? Holy crap...order up!
I watched a TH-camr called Skorpi play this too, its a pretty cool game! Very strange one though lol. But the effort put into the game amazes me. From the manual book to the tapes and hidden notes everywhere, this is definitely a game to remember!
I love how Toe has an Australian accent, us Aussies really get sucked into loopy shit hey.
hey SHB mike I love your videos so much They help me understand horror games I don’t understand and I’m very grateful for you doing that Which is why I love your Channel I just wanted to say I hope you have a merry good Christmas!
27:57 You can actually hide in the bottom lockers in this scene. Felt a little underwhelming after hiding in them expecting a fight when all I had to do was walk outside and beat the game since I wanted *more*
I'm so glad you went through all this, bravo btw that seems like a ton of stuff, and for playing the full game since nobody else really has or at least I haven't seen anyone do it
Is it only me that feels bad to the original creators of Happy and co, they just wanted to make people happy, but their characters became monsters
Thank you for making this video! On my play through I’d had lost some of the information about the entities so this was a great dive into the lore I needed!
It would be cool if we play in a squeal where we play as someone else in the other simulations and see what monsters were created from that.
Graveyard Shift probably has to do with being the one burying bodies or being a mortician there could be zombies in that on
Life Saver is definitely being a nurse and the monsters there would rogue patients who have come to life
Thrill Seeker is either you are a customer or the owner/employee of the park and the monsters there are robots the park has or mascots as well
Tex : Family friendly
Chuck : Adult friendly
The twins : Family friendly
Had anyone tried to put the helmet on toe to see what happens? Is it possible?
Love your videos man your a great person keep up the good work and keep going and do what you’re doing
