    Hello, at the beginning of the video, you remove the insulation material from the floor panel. With a hammer and chisel. Put some dry ice on the base plate. The coating freezes so hard that it separates from the sheet metal. All you need is a spatula. Try it out,

    You Guys love a good Disaster (so do we)😂😅
    I also love Retropower and have seen them really grow and they've put a lot of time into their business getting their setup just right.
    Nat and Callum have installed a Media blast room, where they used a Shipping container with a closed loop blower to circulate crushed glass which they blast the cars with. Apparently this is a better Media than Sand, as Sand can be to coarse and damage the surface than needed!
    Perhaps this might be worth the investment as more and more disasters appear 😊

    Biggest problem with the blast pots is normally lack of air volume you need a huge amount bigger compressor needed or another receiver to give you the volume and hopefully then the compressor won't trip out due to over working yes had a few problems myself in the past 😂

    • @andrewballantine
      @andrewballantine ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is really worth hiring a trainable hydrovane. That will give the required volume of air and will get the job done in double quick time. My nephew says it’s the only way to sand blast, but it is really messy.

    • @thomasscott199

      Agreed with all the comments above I was advised when I started to get the biggest compressor I could get hold of that ..A..I could afford and B could be powered at my property on 240v . Once this is sorted the only 2 other issues are damp media and an incorrect media valve setting .
      I'm sure a little fettling and chasing will result in a good useful set up

    Pfff.. the emotional strength you have to still go strong after discovering even more disasters is inspiring.
    Question: at around 13:35 why do you use a fabricated part that (unfortunately) wasn't right, as your template, when the real part is still available? Mistake on mistake (or, as the great Philosopher Jeremy Clarkson would say) What could possibly go wrong??
    Thanks to your videos i finally know how some panels are fabricated. Before these vid's i didn't realize how much fabrication is needed to come to make 'just a panel'

    My self I always would use a grinder first then blast what the grinder can't and or on metal that is pitted with rust, Some things to look at 1st you need a really high volume and high pressure compressor with 125 psi minimum, 2nd make sure the air is dry and the sand as well (PLEASE DON'T USE REGULAR SAND, NOT HEALTHY FOR YOUR LUNGS) 3rd you might want to slow down how much sand per air (too much sand at a time will clog), but yeah those pressurized sand blasters can be finicky to set up just right, but once you get it set up they are great, good luck...

  • @deankdx
    @deankdx 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    one of the other channels i follow (xacoupeguy) uses paint stripper before sand blasting, as it needs far less material/pressure and therefore causes less damage to the panel.

    Re blasting, the air pressure and flow rate coming out the nozzle is useless. Seems to me there is a restriction between your compressors receiver and the hose. If you google nozzle size CFM chart it will tell you what CFM, you need for a given Nozzle diameter. The CFM does increase with pressure but you will know what pressure your compressor will provide from the pressure guage. For example if you had a 1/4" nozzle diameter you would need 81CFM at 100psi. The best way to measure nozzle diameter is to insert a drill bit into the nozzle, it tapers towards the front and narrows towards the rear. You can measure nozzle pressure with a hypodermic needle gauge. Looking at the video I doubt you are getting more than 50psi at the nozzle.

    Even though the Cosmo is rare, making it again is crazy. If you removed all the rust at once, there wouldn't be much of the Cosmo left. You build everything from scratch, and many of them are worth building. But I wouldn't do anything to the Cosmo myself other than dismantle it and press in the body. There are other vehicles that are also worth it. But as I know you, the Cosmo will look like new again after your work.

      Dipping complete cars runs to thousands of pounds (££££). I had a quote to dip my Land Rover Series One bulkhead and that was £500. This was some time ago so the prices will have risen with inflation. I think dipping is preferable to sand blasting because it seems impossible to recover all of the sand. The flash rust can be inhibited by adding a chemical to the final rinse, I believe. The recommended procedure is dip to remove all paint, filler, seam sealer and underseal back to bare metal, return to repairer to make good, re-dip to clean and then dip in a electrophoretic coating which seals the metal from rust. The electrophoretic dip gets into every nook and cranny and should prevent rust between spot welded sections.
      In my opinion it should be the best way to preserve a classic car, but it is not cheap. I am still considering doing this for my Land Rover bulkhead when I restore it.
      More info here. www.envirostripgbltd.com/industrial/auto-restoration/e-coat-process/
      I have no interest in this company. I am just providing useful information.

      I’ve used liquid paint removers & liquid anti-rust products but these are low volume retail products.
      I had idea that entire car scale systems existed, because of cost, severe user toxicity risks & environmental disposal challenges.

    Hello what a monster job but I'm sure you will have the skills to beat it into submission.
    Don't know if it's any good to you but there is a channel called 'Notevn' he is restoring three Cosmo's all in similar or even worse condition to yours. He is making a lot of panels from scratch, heappears to have similar resources/tools as yourselves.
    The filming is not as good as yours a bit manic, but might be some use to you. That's if you are interested lol...

    As usual, all undercoating really does is give you an idea as to where the metal that it failed to protect was.
