    These new athletes are so ungrateful, and one of the many reasons Rich was so great not just winning but he grew the sport. He brought exposure not just to himself but would let CrossFit use him to make CrossFit bigger. Maybe some of these ungrateful people should go around bringing recognition to CrossFit and be a part of making it bigger, instead of complaining it's not bigger without helping. You hit the nail on the head with this Andrew 👏

    There’s a guy that goes to the same gym as me, he’s got a wife and three kids he runs his own landscaping business and has a couple of employees. He works hard, he’s a good father and husband. Basically he’s just a good dude. Him and his wife are people I look up to and they don’t even know it. After watching the whole video I can say with confidence that this woman DOES NOT know what CrossFit is. She has been training what she loves doing from CrossFit and has decided to believe that THAT is actually CrossFit. She has used CrossFit to built up her fanbase, which is fine. But why do CrossFit give her a spotlight her when you can clearly see there are other women athletes who love CrossFit and could push the Sport part of CrossFit forwards? OH, and she confuses "for quality" with "movement standards". Please...She has no idea and I feel sorry that NO ONE in her life has told her this. Honestly it’s the VARIETY of skills and events that should be the beauty of CrossFit. As a fairly thin, 5’11 woman, when I was new to the sport I felt like my short, muscular friends had every advantage in things like Olympic lifts, kettlebells, handstand push-ups, squats, etc. I still think shorter, stockier women have a bit of an advantage in the sport, but I have my few favorite things that I excel at (running, box jumps, rowing, wall balls, bike). But for the rest I cheer on my friends, recognize their hard work, and try to keep improving on those skills even if I don’t have as much of a physical advantage. I COULD just ignore or complain about the things I’m not as good at and cherry pick the things I am good at, but that misses the point of CrossFit entirely. I was excited to see a 5k (4.5k lol) at the games this year because it not only gives taller, lankier athletes a chance to shine, but it challenges the ones who have less of an advantage to show that a height difference isn’t going to stop them from pushing themselves to excel at every aspect of their sport. If she channeled some of her negative energy into actually doing better at the things she spends all of her time complaining about, she’d probably be a lot more successful, well-rounded athlete overall.

    Anyways, regarding the professionalism of the sport, I keep thinking of GG expressing over and over that the sport is not (and never was?) profitable. We just hope as crossfit lovers that the net impact of the games is positive for the affiliates, but it’s hard to professionalize a sport (as if it isn’t already) when the host company doesn’t turn a profit on running the season.

    She was right. Greg Glassman's changes to the 2019 CrossFit season were the vision to take the professional side of the sport to the next 5 levels. It created a year long season to be followed by the fans and to be targeted by the pro athletes. Gave an avenue to create a month to month income based on doing CrossFit. Gave big events the chance to become bigger and create brands and create fan bases. Created a strategy element for athletes to apply to get to the games and for fans to talk about and analyze. The excitement for the community around the final couple events of the year before the games where certain athletes may have not qualified yet would be like the hype around NFL playoffs. Make the open super relevant because it is where the whole world comes together and make it 5 events over 5 weeks where affiliate owners can do it with their members in every box and every person can do it in their garage and where top 10 make the games and remaining games athletes comes from the sanctional events was genius. The programming for the sanctionals DID NEED to by done in conjunction with the games programming team though to make it 1 step better. Going back to the open, quarterfinals, semifinals was a brutal decision that stalls the growth of the sport.

    • @zachphillips8892
      @zachphillips8892 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree to a point. The Sanctionals were a GREAT idea. It was something I think a lot of us were calling for. I think the execution of just flipping everything on it's head made for a confusing and low-quality season. The fact they just started randomly adding Sanctionals and no one knew which one was which was horrible. That and so many people made the Games the Sanctionals were giving the 7th place person a Games spot made it very hard to follow. I think they should have 5 Sanctionals (or so), and you HAVE TO WIN to get a spot. If Mat Fraser came back and won them all, sucks for everyone else. Gotta make it through the Open!

    What she doesn't understand is that the CrossFit games are slanted in favor of the heavy lifters, not the lighter faster athletes. The female CrossFit athletes would be competitive on the championship levels of Olympic lifting. Sure they wouldn't necessarily win, but they would be competitive. They would not be competitive at the regional level of running at any distance (let alone the championship level). The fact the games pulled back a little from just heavy lifting events is a good thing. In fact I would argue that they need to do more if they really want a balanced athlete. Right now it has become who can lift the heaviest and also do a little gymnastics and some cardio.

One of the stronger females that made the games a few times, used that to start growing a brand and following, fails to make the games and will prob end up just building a brand outside of competition. I get it that Brooke had a back injury that was effectively comp career ending but I’m not sure that it would have mattered, I think her projection was the same either way.
