    Nothing will compare to the 2010-2014 era. CrossFit had everything they needed to succeed, the diehard fanbase, the talent and product, the corporate backing and funding, the media and outreach, and lifelong customers. How can you mess this up? All they needed to do was keep doing what they were doing with the media team, the games, and respecting the affiliates, maybe push for bigger sponsors and corporate backing for funding. Literally a well-oiled machine that was taken down and dismantled one piece at a time, to the point where we are here now.

    It also helps the fan experience when media people don't buy seats and have a dedicated area. Being at Rogue and having photographers sit in front with their massive camera gear, trying to get the best angle which usually included standing up, etc. made it hard to see and unfair because we bought those tickets to be there and have a decent view. Very few of them looked back and said oh sorry.

      That's a great point, and one of the reasons it's better for everyone to not have a ton of media members in the stands.

      Now imagine them with no designated area... meaning they now right on top of you with their camera gear. Not only that media sells the sport. No media - no coverage - no growth and eventually no Crossfit Events

    Things like CBS, ESPN, etc are antiquated entertainment models. It may not seem "fair", but access should be given to athletes with bigger followings. That's how you grow a niche sport. Look at the explosion of sports like Strongman and Armwrestling over the last couple of years. Guys like Brian Shaw, Eddie Hall and Devon Laratt have single handedly made their respective sports explode simply because of the reach of social media. There are much, much bigger events with much, much bigger prize pools popping up all the time now in those sports because a few business savvy entrepreneurs figured it out. That is the world we live in now.

    CrossFit games vs CrossFit Methodology - Many get lost in the games, but community aspect is in the methodology. Every sport needs its gladiators and spectators. I get what Scott is saying about the Mayhem being a team and having “teams” get access but the thing is at this point crossfit doesn’t have those kind of teams and so if they did allow that then they would have to allow that for every crossfit gym in the world or every individual who now has their own TH-cam channel (which is a growing number) because those athletes could point to mayhem and say well their team has access why can’t my team have access. I just thing it would create a bigger problem than already exists. If you went that team route you’d have to have a formal certain number of teams which I’m not sure how that would effect the community side of things

    • @CFProjectMayhem
      @CFProjectMayhem  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Team = training camp and media members allotted is determined by percentage of athletes participating? Just a quick thought. There's definitely a working solution that isn't what was said on here probably, but also isn't what's in place.

    I think they chose to tell media there would be minimal to no media options after ticket sales sold out because they knew that media outlets like mayhem or prvn or hwpo, etc would buy up the tickets and then fans would have less available seats to purchase. I think CrossFit hq knows what they are doing

    • @CFProjectMayhem
      @CFProjectMayhem  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Let's say every training camp large & small purchased 1-2 tickets each...looking at 10-20 seats sold to those outlets max. If their argument was there would be less seats available to purchase it doesn't hold much water. If they want to eliminate media members in the crowd of fans, that could be solved with policy rather than the way it was done. Either way it's not an optimal situation

    The goal for CrossFit isn’t “fairness” it should be how to best grow the sport. You do that by getting as many eyes as possible on your “main event” the games. You need to give the people who get the most views access, fairness be damned.

    Do ya’ll think that “The Games” brings people into affiliates? I don’t know how much it costs CF to run the Games but if it doesn’t bring people into the affiliates and the affiliates are the big contributors into the money CF gets then why spend the money to run The Games? I’m wondering if HQ is thinking about cutting costs and if The Games isn’t just too big of an expense.

    • @CFProjectMayhem
      @CFProjectMayhem  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Our thought is that is brings people to affiliates the same way professional sports brings kids to youth sports. That being said, it's up to CrossFit to make that decision for their company based on the data they have.

    • @nicholassellers816
      @nicholassellers816 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CFProjectMayhem I’ll give a little pushback here because I don’t think professional sports is what gets kids playing sports, their parents put them in the sports or their friends play and the experiences keep them playing and watching. A few examples here, I’ve had an affiliate since 2012 and I can count on my hands the number of members who came in and said it was because they watched the CF Games. Oly lifting grew in popularity in the last decade because CF had people doing the SN and CJ so until people did the lifts they had no interest in watching them. Maybe this is a chicken or the egg thing here but the genesis of the sports fan is not from the viewing but from the participation in the sport. Do you know anyone who started playing golf because they watched it on TV or is it because they played with friends first. Just a difference of opinion not trying to hate but I’d like to hear what you think of my reply. I personally think focusing on the transformations of the unhealthy person resonates much better with the general population than focusing on the top 1%. That’s probably why “Killing the Fat Man” is more popular than any other and I’d say even all of the CF behind the scenes. I hope this message isn’t received negatively I’m a huge fan.

    • @Craig-pk5cc
      @Craig-pk5cc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      2023 was perfect...for us. Doesn't mean it was a good solution for all parties. Trying to look at the situation from all angles not just what is good for our purposes. As to your earlier point, if you don't think anyone is let near the 'product' of the major sports you can just look at social media & TH-cam and see that they do allow a multitude of outlets the access they need.

    • @12dailydosesofstuff
      @12dailydosesofstuff 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CFProjectMayhem look, i'm with ya but the major outlets that are allowed access to the NFL "games" for example pay BILLIONS to get that acesss. and they still are only allowed to use NFLs films with consent for any game related material. News outlets locally aren't using anything other than highlights and the behind the scenes stuff is all team granted access w major money changing hands to allow it. the nfl and the 4 majors are cash cows. Crossfit is not. they would benefit from letting you guys run wild, for free. it is never gonna be popular enough to justify charging media groups for access especially when in the grand scheme, nobody watches other than once a year. You all should be there promoting your people. But if you think anyone other than an NFL employee gets near the field w a camera on game day, you're misunderstood.

    At 27:30-28 minutes (regarding why you should have to pay) I think there’s a point being missed. We are forgetting that CrossFit created an event that people are interested in. The very fact they created that event is what gives you an opportunity to create content so you can then make money off of your content that you created. But you wouldn’t be able to create that content if CrossFit didn’t create the event/brand. (at great expense.) in fact, there would be no Rich Froning podcast or any reason for me to be viewing this if it weren’t for the CrossFit brand.

    • @CFProjectMayhem
      @CFProjectMayhem  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The fact is that CrossFit has created the games and this is a discussion on what the best options are moving forward. Another fact is that we (and other platforms like ours) are promoting & trying to help push the sport and methodology forward, as you would say, at great expense. We’re searching for a better solution to a complicated problem.

      @@CFProjectMayhem Understood, and I agree. I was referring to the question of why people would have to pay to function in that content creation/media role. I think this is a good discussion.

      @@CFProjectMayhem another function of paying to be involved is that it will weed out those who may be less serious or professional about their content and it’s quality.

      Even if the content you create promotes the CrossFit brand and the sport, CrossFit still has to be careful to protect the brand. And if your content was designed to harm the brand, they wouldn’t let you near the event at all. It’s definitely a mutual relationship. CrossFit invests money to create the event. You invest money to create content and promote the event. Ultimately, hopefully everybody benefits.

      Also, remember, the more you help the brand/sport grow, the more you benefit, and the larger your audience becomes. A rising tide lifts all boats.

    Sound mixer or whatever the guys role is behind the camera. It’s not that hard to understand why the CrossFit Games made the decision that it made regarding media restrictions. Stop comparing CrossFit to other sports media teams. Especially NFL. Other sports have this flexibility due to the amount of revenue being poured into the sport. Unless a billionaire decides to sponsor the CrossFit Games these media restrictions will continue.

    Very valid points. But, don't forget that CrossFit is a business. CrossFit as a business is hurting for cash. Charging media is another way for them to generate revenue. Secondly, you brought up the Chiefs and other professional organizations having their own media. You're talking about multi-billion dollar franchises that have endless spending to pay media that promotes their own brand. CrossFit no longer has that. Hence why the sport is on the decline. While these videos do help promote CrossFit, media in the CrossFit space are competing for views on their own channels to generate revenue. Otherwise, most of these "camps" wouldn't be relevant nor would they be able to fund their own media teams. CrossFit doesn't see any of that revenue. Ergo, they're losing out on money. While I whole heartidly believe that this is wrong, there is some validity to the changes. PS... I promise I didn't vote for Biden.

    Froning thinks that CrossFit revolves around him, where in fact CrossFit made him and he needs to be thankful for that. Its about community, not him.
