She has always been inspiring to me from the time I saw her as Princess Leia as a little girl, up into my early adulthood battling my own personal problems and finding solace in her books. Miss you Carrie, and forever thankful for everything you've done
I love her smile and her little laugh. Carrie, come back...and bring your mother with you. You are sooo missed. I had no idea how much the loss of the both of you would sadden me.
Wow! This episode is like the cusp of the young Carrie from Star Wars and the older Carrie before she passed. You can see both Carries in her here. But I love Carrie Fisher sooooo much. She was amazing in Drop Dead Fred, The 'Burbs, Blues Brothers... the list is endless. Her best scene though, was her beating the imaginary Fred in the hallway from Drop Dead Fred.
mental illness leading to drug abuse ..then medications to control the illness....a true testament to her strength and resilience that we had her charm and wit for as long as we did...and proof that she was more then her face....ASS
Witty, smart, funny, beautiful, cute, very likeable, humble, sweet, competent and so damn honest - this is how I would describe Carrie Fisher. R.I.P. Princess Leia
When I was younger and had a crush on Carrie, I thought it was her physical beauty that got me. Now that I look back on old interviews like this, I realize it was her intellect and wit that captured me. Hard to explain or understand how one can miss someone so much that he or she has never met. My first love was a princess.
She did, and according to Mark Hamill, she always was like that, although you can't deny she was way more poised and reserved in her interviews from 1977-83. For that reason, I like crass loudmouthed older Carrie much better. :P
@Philip Kerr Well, her and Katie Couric are about the same age, and one went downhill fast. I feel bad for her, cause she had to choose between being sane and fat.
Funny her mentioning Disneyworld. My brother in law worked there about this time period, mid to late 90's. He said there was a Star Wars event there and Carrie was there with her daughter Billie who was a little girl at the time. There was a autograph session and hundreds of fans waiting for the chance to meet Carrie and get that autograph. Carrie told the Disneyworld representative who was "babysitting" her, that at a certain time, no matter how many people were still in line, she wanted to leave so that she and her daughter could go enjoy the park. Which would be about 3 to 4 hours of autographs. When that time approached, the Disney rep. didn't keep her end of the bargain and looking at the hundreds of people still in line, didn't let Carrie know that the time to leave was there. Eventually the rep had to take a cigarette break or whatever and left Carrie and daughter, with a worker. The rep told the worker that under no circumstances, let Carrie leave with this number of fans still waiting to see her. He was also told, "Do NOT let her know what time it is. Take your wrist watch off." After a little while later, Carrie asked the worker to bring the session to an end and inform the people still in line. The worker nearly panicked because of what he'd been told by his supervisor and requested that she stay a while longer. Carrie agreed. More time went by, Billie had been fidgeting and Carrie was done. She looked at the worker and said, "PLEASE, let me go." The worker told my brother in law that when he looked into Carrie's eyes and heard that voice plead to be set free, he wanted to cry. He got her out of there in about a minute. She went on her way to enjoy the park with Billie. A while later the supervisor came back from her break (AHEM...) and was furious that the worker let her go. My brother in law knew the guy that got in trouble pretty well. He got his ass seriously chewed. My brother in law had seen Carrie up close while she was signing autographs and said she was really nice and VERY pretty in person.
Carrie has her mom's great legs & petite figure i.e. she came from good looking people. That she ended-up so caustically funny is all on her. RIP my dear.
I'm all for Carrie. I do see at the start her fear and her decline. Watching her Star Wars job application she did the part so well and perfect and confident. Many things took her down and things got worse. Be good to everyone.
So she predicted the publishing of her journal and her death being connected, only the other way round. Also she didn't die in an elevator accident but drowned in moonlight, strangled by her bra.
@@irisfryer6531 She honestly admitted to relapses,e.g.,the famously public one about the codeine during her relationship with Brian Lourd. And another time she talked about the dental work. In another interview she talked about not taking to sobriety. So, I am recollecting 3 admissions just from You Tube interviews. Todd Fisher knew. Also, she said they put her to sleep for each of her ECT protocols which means a sedation and those could have been problematic for her sobriety.
She was always attractive and funny as he'll. I really miss her wit and creativity ... and the way the men she worked with looked around nervously when she started talking. 🤣😂
I think Carrie was the most brilliant actor of diversions. She only answered what she wanted and did that brilliantly. The rest she answered brilliantly and nobody could fault her but they had a good, warm laugh instead. It is impossible to not love such a woman, isn't it? Carrie, R.I.P !!!
Make no doubt she superficially is one of the most beautiful women. I'm not one for brown hair brown eyes. But she ticks all the boxes and is stunning. Sooo good looking back in the day. And a cool person.
Take the make up off Megan and Carrie would leave her for dead. Pity you have to dress like a Tramp for some to think that's good looking/sexy Tom Miller
Wow -- this must've been before she gained some weight; Carrie looks great in this. She was such a great comedienne. I will always love you Carrie Fisher ... our feisty Princess Leia and your mother Debbie Reynolds too, ... our unsinkable Molly Brown; may your adorable, talented, and peculiar souls find peace, warmth -- and a place to entertain, within God's loving embrace.
God, that's depressing. While everyone was watching the show that night, Kurt's body was just lying there in that room, not to be discovered for three days.
@1:53 "I could write just really embarassing journal stuff that I know when I probably get killed in an elevator accident my mother would publish this stuff." Well, she already published one before her death!

But now, I didn't mention that I don't find Carrie to be an unattractive person in terms of her self being. Of course, Carrie Fisher the person is a wonderful person, especially as by the 2000's (I don't know why exactly, but though she was who she is today, in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, she is significantly more restrained than what she would be in the 2000's and 2010's. Not sure why, maybe she just started to really not give a crap after that point, but what I am referring to is evident if you compare her interviews in the 80's and 90's to the interviews of more recent times). I think that she is a great person, and her physical appearance is, of course, not all about what made Carrie Fisher a great woman. All I was referring to in my original comment was in reply about what she looked like later in life, and just because I don't consider her physically attractive anymore, doesn't mean I hold any negative grudges towards her. That would be silly, as all people age naturally, and, though circumstances might be different depending on what you do in your youth, it is to be expected that this happens to every person on the planet.

Carrie looked so attractive in that video.
Reminds me a little of Jessica Savitch here. And Jessica was very beautiful.
Jessica was also a frequent guest on Letterman's NBC show.
Not all that frequent; just three times. I uploaded them here:

One of her best looking appearances.

It's unbelievable how much some people change in their appearance.
so pretty here
Is it normal for a voice to change so much when someone gets older? Her latest interviews have a much deeper, and scratchy voice.
That is hormonal. Happens to all ladies as oestrogen sink in the system.
+teachertimm
Carrie always had a lower voice register than most American ladies. Her training in England may have taught her to speak more slowly & improved her diction.
But sustained excessive alcohol consumption always comes with a lot of vomiting. Vocal chords get damaged.
Age had nothing to do with it, over forty years of vomiting on a regular basis did.
What happened to Carrie's voice isn't normal. Her voice sounded fine until only a couple of years ago. I think it's because of dentures.
I wonder if the electroshock therapies have anything to do with it as well
The biggest contributing factor to the deepening of her voice as she aged was her frequent smoking. The lungs and vocal folds deteriorate from the years of tar build up and other toxins.:(
