I am going to have to try a faster strip next time out. I am old and lazy so I am sure I will have to remember to strip quickly! These Sea Trout techniques seem to work on Colorado as bass well. Robert why don’t you try a Rapala Husky Jerk once in while just to see what happens? They cast far and have rattle chamber that makes noise. Go for it…..I hope you are not a purest fly angler. Ok….but I like to see you get um on flies also. Just kidding. ha de!
planning a cast tonight in scotlands kintyre peninsula near carradale . fishing has been tricky . fish jump clear of the water but do not take my fly . i can tempt the small fish to take but the big jumpers ignore my fly , any tips for hard to tempt fish ? sea trout fishing on the coast is a new thing here in scotland but it is getting more mainstream , your videos are a great inspiration ! thanks for sharing your experience EDIT , i went out for a cast , the water was rougher and it was raining hard . i put on a grey spey shrimp first on its own and got nothing then added a fluorescent pink weighted furry goat hair thing on the point and missed one small fish that jumped clean out of the water on the take . i recast in the spot i missed the small fish only for a trout 3 lb or so to take the pink goat hair fly . managed to land it and it was brilliant ! ... my top tip , make your own random unique fly out and give it a bash !
Sea Trout fishing on the coast in Scotland is not a new thing, been going on since i can remember, had my first one in the sea 40 years ago and knew plenty older guys back then that had been fishing for them many years before.
Thank you so much Great video i start with fly Fishing after watching your vedios but iam just casting on grass i reach to 18 m i hope to be beter but I can se you not casting so far is that true ? And when you think i can try in water ?and Robert is it in Denmark or in sweden?
You would think that under such conditions fly fishing with its more surreptitious or subtle presentation would win out over other methods which create more disturbance.Oh, well, doggedness wins regardless of tackle used.👍
Not necessarily, the fly line itself creates a visual you don't get with a thin mono/flourocarbon and getting it to land quietly 100% of the time is not easy as can be seen in the video. Some of these fish will also be easier to catch as they appear to be still thin post spawn. Here in Scotland in many areas if you line a fish or make casts with a lot of water disturbance the fish will move on or completely ignore the fly. I used to fish a local river many years ago that received a lot of angling pressure where the best method was 8oz breaking strain line, a size 26 hook ,light stick float rod with 2lb main line. A LOT harder to land decent fish on that set up than any fly/lure outfit but even then the fish were hard to catch.
I've seen a lot of your feelings don't you think your flies are dressed too long that's why you're having so many false strikes when they are what you call nibbling on the fly the tail is to long at least that is my experience in fishing Atlantic salmon and true sea trout or brook trout and brownies
Perserverence wins the day, great video, thanks for taking the time to make it.
Also a great video with so much content and tips for seatrout fishing 😍👍
"they are here". fistbump
Äntligen! Som jag har väntat!
Thanks for sharing Robert. Must be tough to keep making videos regularly when you are guiding daily. Love your passion and excitement. Great watch.

We don't have those near Toronto, although steelhead and salmon are in the Great Lakes and can be approached this way. Absolutely lovely fish!
Awesome video!!
Flyfishing is all about catching fish on a fly and being connected to a greater level of consciousness. What do you think?
