    This will be the newest addition to the Metal Fabrication shop here at ManCrafting. I'm still waiting on mine, but I found out that one of the Langmuir Personal CNC Plasma Tables went to a customer just a short drive from me,. I contacted Travis and was able to go see the same set up that I'll have in a few short weeks. In this video we talk about the process of creating a file for cutting out parts. Sending the File and finally cutting the file. You get to see the CNC software as Travis works though the process. This video was filmed about 3 weeks ago, and do to my MAC locking up since I never have moved my files to an external drive, I couldn't do anything on it. That done, I'm ready to roll. I would like to mention that Andy the other half of ManCrafting happens to be a Gwinnett County Police Officer. Yesterday afternoon as I was finishing this edit, we found out that an officer in his precinct was shot and killed as he approached a suspicious vehicle. This happened less than a mile from my business and about 2 1/2 miles from my home. My condolences to all of the officers at GCPD many of which are personal friends. The officer Antwan Toney will be missed. Stay safe Officers.

    My Thoughts (and I'd hope they'd carry weight):
    1) That arrow thing is stupid and likely to lead to mistakes on small parts, color coding is much better (it may do that, I didn't see it)
    2) Don't trust the "nozzle diameter" given, do tests on kerf widths, they will be different at different speeds and on smaller parts they're wider.
    3) Smoothing makes G code files larger as it is describing a curve via a lot of little lines, the cut speed itself will hardly be affected
    4) Lead ins and outs need to be experimented with, different machines like rounded lead ins, some like perpendicular lead ins
    5) when doing no offset cuts, make your dwell/pierce time as low as you can get away with on your machine. the pierce will create a larger hole at the start if left too long.
    6) You should be able to manually set your lead in position to deal with small parts
    7) using the tab functionality in mach 3 you can do manual cuts if you turn down the speed and manually fire the torch. Good for cutting material down, doing straight lines, or removing scrap.
    8) I cut most sheets at around .028 height offset, but I use drag tips so it doesn't matter if I contact the material for whatever reason.
    9) his consumables look worn down, that's a common cause of the excessive sparks and dross on the top of the sheet.
    10) run your water right up to the bottom of the sheet, I have a 1/8" air gap, helps to cool thinner parts.
    11) it is hard to make filming a CNC table interesting
    12) that one sided arm makes me nervous, but I'm not totally against it, just looks like a major source of wobble at higher speeds.
    12) Have fun

    What a great machine and it's fantastic to have someone sit with you and show you all the little things to look for. We have a small CNC that we hardly ever use because we can't figure out the software. Thanks for reposting this one, I guess you figured out that we couldn't hear the first one.👍

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which CNC do you have and what software are you using? This is my 3rd CNC tool. Once you start figuring it out they are amazing tools. I wouldn't say for the one off project, but if you want to make 20 or 30 of something, or if it's a project you just can't make any other way. It would be tough to accurately cut this sign in steel by hand.

      We have the CNC Piranha Fx by New Wave Automation and are using the VCarve software. It's our first time using the software and we really don't know how to navigate the through it.

      I don’t have V-Carve, but I don’t think it’s much different than Aspire which i do have, and is made by the same company. Check Javi’s Woodshop he does some training on using V-Carve.

    Small correction, smoothing actually makes the code SHORTER by replacing a bunch of small line segments with single arcs. If your machine runs fine without it, fine. If you notice the torch movement seeming stutter-y then enable smoothing and give it a shot.
    At my school we had to turn smoothing on as often as possible because our machines had small block look ahead, meaning they could only look at like 50 lines ahead of the current line. When cutting parts like the one in the video that could be an issue because the process of converting from image to vector for import to CAD typically turns the lines into a million tiny lines or splines instead of actual arcs.

    Great video! Just got mine a few days ago. BTW, on the smoothing checkbox, that often confuses people. Checking the box will actually reduce the size of your G-code by reducing the points it has to calculate, and will make the machine travel more smoothly by reducing the times the head has to accelerate/decelerate. For example, it might try to substitute an arc for a highly faceted side, if it can within the tolerances specified. Because the plasma keeps firing at the same amps whether it is traveling or stopped, fewer stops/slow-downs mean more consistent parts due to more consistent curf width, and a smaller heat affected zone. Thanks for filming this, I'd love to see more. Ciao, Marco.

      Well, I had this idea I could save some time making the new instrument panel for my airplane. Last one I did took five days and five setups to cut on with my mini-mill. th-cam.com/video/pgZZJIK2QrU/w-d-xo.html I did three versions of it, and I wanted to do the 4th one with less pain, plus I figured it would come useful in a ton of other projects. I'm still not sure if I will be able to cut the screw holes due to their tiny size, but as long as I can mark them, I can go back to it later with a drill and still be faster than with the mini-mill.

    Long wait for back orders . Shipping seems to have everyone waiting

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to wait 3-4 months for my original. I bought it on the 2nd round of presales. I bought this one within minutes of the first round of presale. Same thing it took a while. Definitely months. That time is useful for really getting familiar with the design software you chose to use. It’s also a good time to get familiar with CAM as well. So many people buy it and build it never having done that. Then they get frustrated and think it’s the machines fault. It’s not difficult. I should say no one part of the process is that difficult to learn, but expecting to cut a sign or parts with zero experience the day the machine is opened is unrealistic. If you decide to buy one. Take the waiting time and be in a position to use the machine once you set it up. I only say this, because the first one I didn’t take the time. So I had an amazingly capable machine that I struggled to use for a while. Don’t be like me. 🤣

      Cutting Envelope Dimensions: 25.3” (X) x 23.3” (Y) x 3.0" (Z) So It's limited in the project size unless you do like some users and extend the rails and bed. I don't plan on doing that. It couldn't do it as quick for most cuts this is making it couldn't do it at all. Also, one of the benefits is I don't have to be standing over it while it cuts, I have just because it's cool, but it the job is repeated parts that either fall through or sit on the blades I can let it run and be doing another task. But if you are wanting to cut a straight line maybe an angle grinder could be as fast. In my experience, it takes about 60 seconds to cut 20 inches of 3/16 and then you have to keep replacing cutoff wheels. So....

    My question may sound stupid I'm sorry but. I'm very limited financially and a friend of mine see.s to think buying the
    1. $20k plus Lincoln torchmate is so much better then the one you are using
    2. He says that Lincoln claims that since they make the welder , table, software that will have so many less problems and it will be worth spending the more because the other tables such as the one you're talking about he's going to cause all kinds of problems and my question to you is is this true what do you feel about this do you have the experience to tell me that with this table if I learn certain things I won't have the problems or is it a big difference can you tell me your thoughts on this

    • @ManCrafting
      @ManCrafting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I didn’t have the space or budget for the Torchmate. So it wasn’t an option. I bought this first and got my feet wet. This February I moved up to the pro which is able to fit 4ft stock . It also has torch height control which to me was a big upgrade. Considering either system is less than 20% of the cost of a Torchmate there has to be differences. I happen to have a friend that owns a Torchmate. He does a lot of cool stuff with it, but I would say it is anything but trouble free. He’s probably been down more than up. That’s just one person with one table though. I wouldn’t expect that for $20k it would be the norm. That said, go on Instagram and do a hashtag search for #langmuirsystems and see how many people are making amazing things even mass production. Also check my video on the Langmuir Pro. The machine is amazing and still just a 1/4 of the cost. Unless you’re running a Torchmate 8 hours a day 5 days a week I don’t know how the cost difference is going to be justified. My projects have easily paid for the two machines and I sold my original to a friend who is using it.

    Nice video ..if it wasn't bad enough they do not have a z axis or torch height control or that the gantry is only supported from one side .Now you have such bad software..The thought of having to actually go and click and put which way each and every piece is gonna cut in a system that is not dealing with exacts..how in the world are you gonna get anything near accurate with that? I mean by comparison sheetcam allows you to put the kerf comp for your actual cutter as well as cut speeds and cut heights right from the book.. And now for the big thing sheetcam looks at the part and automatically sets the cut height,cut speed,Pierce height,cut order,cut direction,and which side to do the lead in and lead out as well as which side to offset to... On most of the stuff I cut I have over a hundred peirces .with this software needing to go thru several different drop downs for each hole I would literally fall asleep at the computer..Seeing the results of that piece with the Stars would likely be very common with this softwar.This software seems to rely on the customer to do all the thinking instead of having software that does the hard work for you like pretty much every other system out there...

    • @vtec92civic
      @vtec92civic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      George Muzek so the issue is with the software and not the actual plasma right? So could you just purchase a better software to run the plasma and this table with or would that not essentially solve the issue? Only asking as this table seems like a great deal for someone starting up but if I’ve got to go through all of that to make a decent looking piece I think I’ll honestly get lost.

    • @georgemuzek498
      @georgemuzek498 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vtec92civic that software is way off industry standard .. now no z axis is gonna be another big issue get one tip up and the machine will rip itself apart ..plus slow cut speeds mean lots of dross.. .. lots of things to consider

      @vtec92civic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @heathcarman7621
      @heathcarman7621 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The software isnt that complicated...I can design a part and click the the object one time and set the cut direction on every detail and if you dont like using the free software you can always buy sheetcam and use it.This machine just works...You match it up with a Hypertherm and feed it dry air and you can make nice things.This machine is a game changer for the industry and after many sheets of steel and a few tip up crashes its still intact.

      I had mine on order and was excited about the purchase. I found out someone who was nearby had one, so I went out and spent the day learning about it. You're commenting 16 months after I received it and made so much money with it, when they came out with the Pro model I sold the old one and upgraded. I've now had that for 4-5 months and really love it. It's an amazing tool, and until you've owned one, it's hard to express how great it is to have in the shop. th-cam.com/video/HFHLn6aT08k/w-d-xo.html I have at least three more videos on the new one as well, and if you are subscribed you can expect a minimum of a video a month where it will be used in a project. It's a game-changer for me, and as my welding skill improves I will continue to make bigger and better projects with the new Pro version of this machine. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and make a comment.
