    Hey Kyle I read your book in early 2020 and am revisiting your material. I am at a crossroads in my life that I would like your sage advice on(even if I need to pay for it).
    I transitioned out of construction as a full time career (at the age of 26) after about 10 years in the industry in 2017. I went into the field of hypnotherapy because those tools really helped me when I lost 120lbs in 2008 (which Ive kept off). So I started helping people 1 on 1 and had mild financial success... then I got a partner who was already working with clients.
    I guess with my natural charm and sales mentality he let me come aboard to share 50/50 in the company in July 2017. He was not doing that well at the time. I then started my hard knocks marketing education, reading mostly Dan Kennedy books and seeing what worked in my dad’s construction business and emulating it.
    I supported myself in the beginning with small construction jobs I got through referral from customers or my dad who has worked in the industry for decades. In 2018 i stopped working with clients and focused on pre-selling them before bringing them into to consult with my partner (who is very good at what he does).
    By 2019, we built a 6 figure practice(still is) and are the #1 rated in the state for hypnotherapy and we are still pretty niche compared to competitors. I have gone back to our board of hypnotherapy in their annual symposiums and we are literally in the 1% of people there in terms of success (which is extremely scary since I don’t know THAT much about marketing--they are just mostly ignorant of what actually works).
    Even in 2020 due to alot of the prep i did, we had a pretty damn good year, possibly exceeding the sales from 2019. I'm grateful for the education and success--let alone that he gave me the chance to prove myself (no one else did by the way -including my dad).
    I have sold a lot of different things successfully 1 on 1, but I really would like to teach people like my partner, who believe is really changing people's lives everyday, how to market themselves. That inner change is what made the difference for me...coming from a background of obesity and negativity, and i want more people to have it.
    I want to make this coming year (2021) the year I finally sell my share to him and move on. The conundrum is I am bottlenecked in the business because I basically sell on the phone to get them to give me a deposit so they come in. I was told by a top company that trains assistants for business owners that they couldn’t train someone to sell like I do. I have to fundamentally change the sales process If i am going to leave with my 50% share paid out to me and have him still retain the valuable business that he deserves when im gone.
    I have been trying to improve the business to get him fully booked and finally leave ----o the other hand I have been wanting to teach, start a podcast, etc. I have been spending all my free time being kinda regretful that i didn’t go straight into making a personal brand for myself. But i was fearful and inexperienced and i still feel that way alot of the time.
    Like you, I suffer from shiny object syndrome. I want to start earning money in a different way, but not sure if i need to replace myself in this business and then wait to transition into copywriting freelance/podcasting------or start transitioning now so i can be ahead of the curve. I think i will grow bored over the next year focusing solely on the biz im trying to leave, at the same time i dont do multiple things well. Any advice?
    Hopefully this is clear.

    Hey Kyle, an old fan here. I loved some new insights in this video, but don't you think that authority/credibility is a very slow way to the glory? I perfectly understand that it works and that it's long-term, but many people have quick client acquisition methods too. For example, doing analysis of a prospect's copy to impress them or writing a new and better headline/lead. What's your viewpoint on this? How do you compare this slow and long term method with that fast-track method?

      @@QasimAliWriter That might be the most backwards thing I've ever seen. I don't even believe in talent. I write every day. I critique multiple writers every day. All of that is experience that allows me to behave as a "talented" writer would. I have thousands and thousands of references or "experiences" that allow me to understand what to do in every situation. Practice is experience. Experience is practice. You're basically saying a basketball player needs no practice or experience to be great. Only talent matters. But that is just the most ridiculous point of view on earth.

    • @copysquad
      @copysquad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Easy come, easy go. That's just how I see it. Success isn't an event. It's a process. Everybody starts somewhere. Pick any craft, sport, or hobby. You get better with practice and experience. Get as much practice and experience as you can and you will become more credible. The credibility comes from experiences, or practice, which could be clients. I just started somewhere I could create career capital / credibility so I would already be a selector.
      And going back to my very first sentence, I would say my status in this space is now far more concrete and sturdy than many others. And I would say it's because I took the slow consistent path. I have been steady. And I'm hard to knock down now. I don't have to look for work or connections or whatever.
      Even as I build my Copy Squad agency today, each writer only works on one project at a time. So we can do the best work in the business. Faster than anyone else. And yes, it is slower in terms of how many TOTAL projects we can push out. Yes, the money will take longer to come. But we will have unshakable credibility and reputation as the very best copywriting agency in a year or two.
      I don't need a lot to be happy. Especially don't need a lot of money. I don't need flashy things. I can be poor for a while. I am not ashamed to move back in with family if it comes down to it. And that makes me a difficult person to compete with.

    I am just getting started, and there is a real estate company look for either marketing material, landing pages or website marketing content, or all 3 jobs. I have a big interest in homes and real estate and also in writing, but haven't had work experience in it, but I'd love to copywrite for them and know i could be useful to them. What could I pitch to them that would make them want to take a chance on me?

    • @kimberlyihekwoaba8607
      @kimberlyihekwoaba8607 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can introduce yourself briefly. Followed by highlighting their needs. Like what you mentioned, the marketing materials and landing pages, website content, etc. Talk about the benefits of hiring your services. And end with asking for them to schedule a call so that you can learn more about their marketing projects, etc.
      I always aim for a discovery call.
      Have a list of questions and do research on the company.
      Discussing price is based on if they have a defined budget. If not, you can tell them that you will take the discussions into consideration and will send pricing list (send 3 options packages customized to their needs).

    Hi Kyle, I’m confused did you make 7 million for yourself before taxes in one year at AF... or did you make AF 7 million before taxes and if so what did you make in your first year at AF profit wise?

    • @copysquad
      @copysquad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Robert, solid questions.
      So the $7.1 million claim comes from the gross sales made on products while at AF. Definitely not my personal income.
      I honestly don't know "profit wise." Generally, copywriters are paid royalties on top-line revenue (net refunds). I have no clue about the numbers much deeper than the top line to be completely honest.

    • @robertdisch4493
      @robertdisch4493 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@copysquad sounds good. I was also wondering about you working remotely for Agora so you can have time for other things such as your book, website, TH-cam marketing and other projects. How does that work exactly? Do you have to “prove yourself” at AF before they allow you to work remote? How long does that take? How much of your time is spent on AF vs your own projects/business now? I think that’s really cool you have that option

    • @copysquad
      @copysquad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@robertdisch4493 Great questions again.
      So, things are way different in the post-pandemic world.
      In my day, you were required to re-locate and work in office. That's how I ended up living in Florida.
      But since I left that company in August of 2019, things have changed a lot.
      I believe now a great deal of the company is remote.
      Also, a lot of the leadership left the company after a pretty rough FTC lawsuit that lasted basically the whole first half 2020.
      I think as far as working on my own projects, I have a couple big picture notes I want to share:
      I used to badly suffer from shiny object syndrome. So I made a deal with myself that I had to work a FULL YEAR of doing NOTHING but copy (every spare minute) before I could ever share "advice" with other people.
      (I first had to know what I was actually talking about -- from real experience!)
      Doing nothing but copy for my full first year is part of the reason I did so well...
      But 90% of my success came from being one of Evaldo's first Jr copywriters. Way back before the 16 Word Sales Letter was even an idea. He absolutely torched my copy every day and helped me skip years and years of the learning curve.
      How much time I spend on this channel / side hustles now: Next to zero.
      I do NOTTTT consider myself a guru.
      I don't think I want to make a living selling courses (But life is crazy, that may change, I don't know).
      I do not consider myself as really even having my own "business" at all.
      For instance, I don't market or advertise my book or paid group. All my traffic is organic.
      If I were to take this more seriously (like a real business), I would employ a lot more direct response principles... ya know, like advertising my products haha.
      Writing copy is far more lucrative than the TH-cam thing (for me at least). I would say that's because there aren't enough capable financial writers and anyone good can make a lot of money. Not just six figures. Many six figures.
      Here's why I bring THAT UP:
      I had shiny object syndrome.
      I made myself write for a full year, no side hustles, and I had solid success.
      After the year, I made the TH-cam, wrote the book... it worked better than I thought. But I could still see it only brought in a FRACTION of what writing copy could bring me.
      Now that I'm more veteran, and if you want to maximize income, I would personally recommend just focus on being "so good they can't ignore you" in copywriting.
      Copywriters can be some of the highest paid people in a business some months...
      Even more than publishers and sometimes the owners!
      Because copywriters get paid TOP LINE revenue, while other players (like owners and publishers) get paid on bottom line figures.
      So it is possible that after expenses a company has a losing month, that could cause owners to go negative, but not the copywriter.
      Copy does give you a lot of freedom, but sometimes the best place to invest that extra time is just getting better at copy!
      Sorry for rambling. Hope some of this is helpful! Happy Thanksgiving!

    • @robertdisch4493
      @robertdisch4493 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@copysquad this is very helpful. What does a below average financial copywriter make roughly? What about an average one or an above average one? Seriously Looking to get into this due to my passion, the demand for writers and the money involved. Promise these are my last questions haha thanks man

    • @copysquad
      @copysquad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@robertdisch4493 I get this question a lot. And if you post this question in a Facebook group you will get absolutely flamed haha.
      First thing to address is the fundamental assumption behind this question - which is usually false...
      When someone asks this, they are often assuming the average to take the shape of a bell curve. And the asker assumes if they fall within the "average" of the bell curve, they can "expect" xyz dollars.
      But the skill of copy actually follows the "power law curve." (quick google search for a visual)
      Taking a power law view, it makes more sense to say the "average" copywriter (that is, more than 50% of them and probably 75%) probably makes between $2 and $1,000 per month.
      As you move along the long tail, toward the one percenters, you'll find a healthy group of journeymen who bring in close to five figures monthly...
      More skilled can make six figures a year and up...
      But the one percenters, they can make seven figures. I would say this, like anything, isn't just down to being "that good."
      They usually have a batch of controls from a healthy career that is always bringing in recurring revenue.
      Plus a special combination of skill, niche specialization, cred / notoriety or some sort of early bird "positioning" within a company that gives them a very fortunate deal.
