oh my gosh! I did this just this week! I applied for a freelance job in Finance and in my email I mentioned you and your accolades. They respond the next day asking for a sample which I'm about to do now! It's a great start as I'm new. I agree with what your saying but this doesnt help anyone who has zero ties or connections to an industry. This is like telling someone to jump from step 0 to step 25. How do you get from step 0 to step 1. I'm considering lying at this point
You've gotta start, first and foremost. Become embedded with the community as a whole and get to know a few names both small and large. I imagine right now that if I wanted to get into fashion industry copywriting I'd be posting on Facebook groups such as The Gary Halbert Copy Club or Cult of Copy to ask who is currently niched into the fashion industry, then I'd contact those people who are and craft an offer where I'd provide services in exchange for information and perhaps even mentorship. From there, you'd develop some experience for clients and a folio of proof, develop more connections within the fashion copywriting niche, and overall have more career capital to hit it off with the big players by name dropping some clients you've worked with and copywriters you do know in the niche as this video is stating.
I found some copywriters on youtube living in thailand before covid. I bought a plane ticket, found them at an event I thought they'd be at and stuck my hand in their face. Now I know successful copywriters. This is more challenging with covid but still possible. I am in mexico now meeting copywriters. The hard part was convincing my boss to take these mini vacations.
