  • Lisa Niemi Swayze, the widow of beloved actor Patrick Swayze, reflects on their loving marriage her work with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and moving on with new love. “It doesn’t conflict with the love I still have for Patrick. Just because somebody’s gone doesn’t mean you fall out of love,” she says.

I never cry when a celebrity dies, but when Patrick Swayze died, I'll admit I teared up. He was the best in the 80s and 90s and all of us that were kids during that time have fond memories of Swayze and all the wonderful movies he has been in. I'm glad that Lisa found a new love. She is a beautiful person in and out and I wish her all the happiness in the world.

I like the way Lisa described how you never stop loving your husband, even though they're not physically here anymore. I could never envision being married again, but when you're only in your 50's, you're still young. Four years after losing my precious husband, God had a different plan, so I married again. I felt guilty for a while, like I was betraying him, but like Lisa said, it doesn't take anything away from the love you had with him.💗

Never forget the first time I saw him as the oldest brother ‘Darry’ to ‘Pony Boy’ in S.E. Hinton’s ‘The Outsiders’ 🌟 What a breakthrough role for him and what a great cast 💖 I read all three of the books as a youngster, so it was awesome to see those poignant coming of age themes brought to life to well by the late Mr. Swayze, Tom Cruise, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, Emilio Estevez, Leif Garrett, Rob Lowe , Ralph Macchio et al ~ Yet it was his role as Orry Main in ‘North and South’ adapted from the John Jakes novels, however, that was his most powerful role in my opinion.

One of the volunteers was able to speak with his people within about 10 minutes on the phone. I think volunteer ended up speaking with Patrick Swayze's mother but the funniest thing was minute-by-minute you'd see all the women organization inching up to the guy on the telephone just to see if he was able to get Patrick Swayze to show up. When we had his funeral on a Sat and on Monday everything closed down. I went home to an empty house after the funeral and spent the next 2 years alone only talking to people on the phone. My 48 year old cousin was in the hospital with COVID last December. While there, he was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic cancer that had already spread to his liver. Less than 2 weeks later, he was gone. Prior to his hospital stay, the only symptom he had was a stomachache at Thanksgiving which he, of course, chalked up to overeating. It was only while in hospital when his abdomen began to fill with fluid that he was diagnosed and went downhill quickly. My poor aunt and uncle were still trying to wrap their heads around losing their older son unexpectedly in an accident, they then learned their second son was terminally ill. Such horrific disease. Its great to see Lisa continuing to raise awareness.

In the 80's I used to be told all the time that I resembled Patrick. I never really saw it BUT even strangers would stop me and tell me that often...I followed him because of that compliment and was crushed when he died.
I am now turning the age that Patrick was when he passed in May. 57 years old.
Lisa, I am so glad that you found love again and continue to honor your late husband. He is missed!

I remember him from his gymnastic days when he was young. We used to watch him do the rings (iron cross) and vault routines. He was amazingly talented even then. We all called him “Buddy”. He was a few years my senior so we didn’t go to school together. His mother owned a fabulous dance studio. They were very prominent in our Houston community.

He was an amazing actor who brought so many beautiful characters to life in every incredible film he was ever in. I'm happy she was able to find love again many people never seem to recover the ability to love again after such a great loss. I pray a cure is found and that the directional of medical science will become only more impassioned to see people live full happy healthy lives.

Her brother, my uncle, passed away a few years later from the same thing. There’s so so much work to be done to find better diagnostics and treatment for this insidious killer.

Unfortunate end for a talented man like Patrick Swayze. Money raised should not be given to Cancer Research but to the families of the cancer victims. Their are costs associated with the care of cancer patients and only covered by the families. Over the years too much money has been raised for Cancer Research. There is no malice or contempt here but the old saying,"Too much money too much time nothing to show for it."
