Hey everyone! I just wanted to give an update on how the game is going. The developers have (re)added the ability to try all the characters in training mode. Which is a step in the right direction for the game. Although having all the characters in Local play isn't on the table yet. They have also added the ability to passively gain Battlepass Xp after every game, which I didn't know wasn't already a thing, but is also another step in the right direction, hopefully lessens the grind a bit. I hope the developers will keep working to make this game better. But I do fear that by the time they do, it'll be too late. The peak daily player count on steam is still going down by the day and I hope it stabilizes soon because some people do really like this game. But in the end a dead game benefits no one.
@DerrylHopkins just throw yourself off the stage 3 times immediatly and hopefully get 5xp about every 30 seconds, that way it only takes three hours to level up one tier in the battle pass via playing the game! How gracious of the devs for giving us this quick, fun, and easy way to level the battle pass!
Nobody forces you to pay, nobody forces you to buy all character, clickbaiter. Is Super Smash Bros free? No, so shut up. Smash doesn't have to pay for all the people playing for free.
And people thought smash $5 per characters was a lot but with smash you get a character, a stage, and music or tripple the price you get one character in multiversus
Back in my day, you got everything for $50 MSRP. Funny how pre-planned content that is charged is considered a good value when you could had all of that included before launch.
Smash is also $70 while MV is free… also have to buy garbage hardware to play it lol. So ill stick with multiversus. U only need one or 2 characters anyways.
@@Sc0musiqsmash is $100 with all DLC while being an actually fun and well balanced game, multiversus is horribly balanced and acts as either a 300 hour grind-fest or upwards of $300 to skip the grind and just buy all the characters. i'll stick with smash.
@@_j4y.mp4the way they approach the game barely changed compared to the beta so not likely Update: now they're saying that there's a bug that adds an option to buy lifes on pve, despite it being mentioned in the description of a difficulty, having a fully built ui and being translated to every language they support, it is probably going to get worse
Someone on Reddit did the math on this. If you wanted to use the fighter currency you get from character progression to unlock a character, you’d have to max out SIX characters just to unlock ONE
that’s not the only place u get the currency tho, i got all characters in beta but i unlocked joker in like 5 days using char progression and the challenges. i’ve paid $15-$20 on this game in the beta and i don’t plan on spending another penny, so far lmao the monetization is pretty much on par with brawlhalla. ik were all blaming WB for this but the f2p model sucks for fighting games, they just don’t make enough and they inevitably turn greedy, seems like mvs came out the gate that way though.
Brawlhalla is definitely not as greedy as this weapon skins emotes and banners are universal between different characters and earning gold doesn't take long @@hovis_esports

thats not the problem. why is garbage monetization STILL alive? because people are getting too comfortable with it. what once was harmful is now the norm, people end up wanting the "free daily" shit and its not going to stop until you cant play the game you already own without paying for extra shit that should come with the game already.. we already are at that point lol
You say “once beautiful” like the game devolved somehow. The only thing that’s happened is characters being locked behind a paywall. As terrible as that is, you have to remember that this game is essentially free, WB needs to make some money somehow, providing shortcuts to your favorite characters is an easy way to do it. Not like Paywalls haven’t been used in games like this. Smash has an online paywall that you have to get a subscription for just to play online. Getting the points to get your characters isn’t as tedious as you might think either, I earned all the currency I needed to buy Joker in my 1st hour of playing. Easier to win games in this than smash fr.
I'm in highschool atm, and while I'm not the biggesy fan of looney tunes, a good amount of my classes know about them (altough it might just be a regional thing ngl).
MVS deleted all your gold coins from the Beta. Coins you saved to unlock new characters that would come later or anything else coins could get you. This is the biggest scandal of all.
Exactly why I uninstalled the game again after redownloading it, had nearly like.. The same amount of gold required to buy the fred avatar which was 50k coins and it was all gone. Yeah nope lol rip MV, I enjoyed the beta but this "final" release ain't it chief
Agree!! It is so frustrating! And don't understand why companies still doesn't understand that if you treat your players like this then they will make less money compared to if they where more giving......
@@avej99It's actually got more to do with the type of audience it aims for. Nintendo has a very established fandom that focuses a lot on platforming and party games, and let's be honest, you ain't buying a Nintendo console to play brawlhalla, you want to play Mario and stuff, and Smash's got plenty of the most recognizable characters in Nintendo's consoles. Only people interested in this kind of party platformer fighting game are groups of friends trying to have fun, Smash fans wanting to check it out and fighting game enthusiasts wanting to see if it's worth it, and all of them will just move on to other stuff eventually
Warner Bros has desperately wanted a successful live service game for so long and I feel like they just don't get it. MK1 got huge backlash and the hype for that game is basically gone at this point, Kill the Justice League has zero players in it, and now Multiversus is probably going to flop too. It's like a good game is about to be made and WB Games has to stick their grubby hand into it to screw it all up just to suck a few more dollars out of its player base
It’s almost like live service is a terrible model unless you are exactly a multiplayer only shooter that is allows over a decade of updates and cars and then not even because you let the servers die gecsgse of bots
@@jmurray1110 I was about to say Warframe but even that game eventually added like two gigantic open world zones and vehicles for said open zone and specific missions. Still, you can still use the market in that game to find the most demanded grindable material, sell it and actualy buy some of the strong stuff with that currency. Now that I think about it, that really sounds like an MMOARPG version of TF2.
@@jmurray1110@jmurray1110 theres also MMORPGs and fall guys, live service can work for other genres but basically every live service fighting game has been a failure
You said my thoughts exactly. I REALLY wanna love this game, it's a platform fighter where the characters are designed and treated on a level equivalent to Smash with so much heart and care put into them, but all these issues drag it down so much to the point that it saddens me deeply. And as of right now I only play to complete missions so I can unlock some of the content you gain from it before logging off again. I don't feel incentivized to keep playing afterward as I do with Smash, or Fraymakers, or any other platform fighter which is a first for me because I love platform fighters. It makes me wish Multiversus was a full paid-for experience rather than a free-to-play live service game.
I KNOW SAME. I love platform fighters and 2d fighters, but the excessive grind and abundance of micro-transactions is keeping me from playing Multiversus. Cause realistically (and coming from a causal perspective) why would I, as a customer play a "free" game only to have majority of the games content locked behind grinding/pay walls when i can just pick up Ultimate, SF6, Tekken, KOF or etc. and have everything available for a singular purchase.
Multiversus is a tragic game to me because it does SO much right. You can tell the devs really love working on it and it has so much gameplay creativity. It has some of the most inspired and unique movesets I have EVER seen in a fighting game. But it is bogged down a lot by shitty decisions made by the suits who ultimately control it.
Zack Synder wasn’t the best for the DCEU though. He’s more suited for making cinematic shots and action scenes for movies than directing as he doesn’t understand DC characters like Superman or Batman at all. He made the movies needlessly edgy and convoluted (BVS and MOS).
@@Dennyscop that's what they saying. Those movies didn't have to be terrible, Warner Bros stepped in and basically scrambled the plot of multiple movies for some reason. Batman V. Superman and Suicide Squad are the biggest culprits of this.
I genuinely dont know how companies don't understand this by now: It does not matter how many microtransactions you stuff into it, a good free game will always beat a bad free game in every single aspect.
Simple: their brains can't comprehend a revenue outcome beyond just a few months in the future. Any longer, and their brains turn to mush and think it's not worth their time.
what you said is very true, the game does not feel like a game worth playing, as a new player with about 15 hours in the game,l love learning the new combos and mechanics, but I feel as though there is literally nothing to do besides grind the rifts and try to unlock new characters. The game feels very nice and smooth, but the paywall and time you need to invest into the game is insane.Someone did the math and said it takes 938 hours to fully unlock all characters as a f2p.Also the rifts are BS,the gem levels take way too long to get up and the skill gap between new players and people who grind out fighting games and the beta just dominate, basically giving no time for improvement for new players unless they practice unrealistic scenarios with AI or play rifts to practice combos.
I’m honestly just waiting for ranked to come out to see if I have a reason to keep playing, game is fun but holy crap you’re not gonna have a good time if you’re just a casual player wanting to play with mates who are possibly also new too with limited characters and repetitive PvE modes. Free to play IPs either very greedy or grindy and this is both unfortunately
and then there are also sadly the idiots who dismiss all these criticism and claiming "oh people just want to unlock everything day 1, they just have no patience". also let me just tell ya something, you cash cows, there is a difference between "wanting to give money to support a game" and "having to give money to be able to play a game". Not to mention that a lot of people also have other interests than just playing one single game for a long time and throwing all their money on that alone
exactly i can understand the fear of criticizing in fear of the game failing, but without pointing these problems the game will have the same future of its beta.
you just said "people want to unlock everything day 1" in different words. Also the game is literally free so you don't have to pay anything to play the game........
@@matthewaiken9624I'm going to fucking say it. Buying a game and not having a shitty battle pass system is objectively better than treating AAA titles like fucking mobile games
To sum up this game in one update the grind for character levels has gotten so horribly bad that it’s almost incomparable. The only comparison I have is I had an easier time getting Shaggy and Harley to level 6 than I did getting Velma and the Joker to level 4 and 2 by a significant margin
If a free2play game wants to lock gameplay changing content behind an unreasonable pay/grind wall, at least let me buy all of it in a bundle at a cost that's comparable to just purchasing a similar game. If a free2play game can't at least do that, I no longer have the patience to put up with it.
Gotta leave a comment about your thoughts on the missed party potential. I believe most platform fighters, especially the crossover types, should be fun to play with others in a single room. In the beta, I don’t think characters were as unfair to unlock, but bots just weren’t a thing in Local Play. If you wanted to play 2v2 or Free-for-All (the latter of which strangely hasn’t returned), then you were out of luck unless you had four players. While it was nice of the devs to let us keep access to Local Play after the beta shut down, the lack of bots problem still persisted. Now, here we are with the relaunch. I played the beta to the point of unlocking every character that was released in it, so I already had them all back at relaunch. When my brother and I checked Local and found out they had added bots, we were ecstatic because we could finally play 2v2 together! This was exciting to me for a while, until I learned about the bullshit that new players have to go through to unlock characters, as you and many others have stated. That’s already a massive problem on its own, but combine this with the facts that locked characters aren’t available in local play when THEY FINALLY FIXED THE MODE BY ADDING BOTS….It’s not consumer friendly, to say the least. I want tons of people to enjoy this game, and new players should not be punished just because they didn’t play the beta.
@@evan2623 they do to fan games not mods lmao they may sue but they cant stop thousand of people still modding regardless in multiversus they just added anti modding stuff
Rifts wouldn't be that bad if the game didn't require you to complete them a billion times to finish Agent Smith event and then 500 million times more to unlock the rest of the rewards. If you calculate how much you need to play vs bots that are either complete doo doo boring or so unfair they will infinite you unless you find a cheese strategy for them... it's kind of ridiculous. Even if you have A LOT of time to do all of that. This is a fighting game so obviously it should push you more towards the ACTUAL game modes - 1v1 and 2v2. But it looks like the rewards you can unlock are 50/50 or actually even more rewards are given from rifts which is supposed to be a side activity. Also one very bad thing is you get BP exp from dailies and events but you don't get anything other than character exp for playing games. If you join late or you had too much school/work or you couldn't play because the servers are sausage water right now, you can't spend more time to grind BP, you are timelocked. And the only reason to play PvP is "because it's fun". I was looking forward to support this game but right now - when it's playable like for 20% of the time and characters are as badly balanced as in the beta (what the fuck were they doing for the past 1 year) it's not worth it. People are discovering infinite combos (here we go again) not even a week after the release, I think PFG didn't play their game because those combos were easy to notice.
bro the lead dev Tony literally released a tweet explaining that you won't need to grind rifts so heavy, there are going to be a ton of rifts that come out throughout the season.. if you want agent smith early then yeah you may have to grind and pay to win.. but just relax and play the easy and medium modes for all the rifts that come out and you will still be able to get him it will just take a few weeks longer. So just pace yourself.
@@TheGamerEnthusiast98 There's going to be more than 6 rifts? Because right now you can see I think 6 so 6x5 difficulties would be exactly 30 bosses to do the whole Agent Smith event.
1. Give players BP xp and fighter currency for Just Playing the game. Each mission provies around 300 - 750 xp. Give players 10-25 of each per match. 2. Allow players to test out characters and skins in the training mode. (Personally i believe they didn't do this because of how the layout is. It seems to be the exact same as the store, but they could easily have an option even from the store that's "try character") 3. Nerf Taz. No reason needed. (I appreciate your honesty at the beginning lol) 4. Stop making events such a grind fest. The Power Pledge drive was only open for 3 Days. 31st it started, it wasn't retroactive, and it ended on the 3rd of June. It wasn't available on the 4th. 5. ADD A REMAINING TIMER ON EVENTS AND OTHER THINGS SO WE KNOW WHEN WE'RE GETTING SCREWED.
The worst thing about this game in my opinion doesn’t even have to do with the lag. It’s the fact that they start you off after the tutorial by forcing you to go and do rifts, they don’t explain to you how to navigate the menu, and parts of the daily missions are a grind to do not because of the grind of doing them just by itself, but that the XP it gives is minimum to none. And don’t get me started on the fighter level ups. After level one, they take forever to do witch is understandable, but when actually online matches don’t give you XP towards anything unless you complete daily, weekly, or event missions, it start to become annoying. The game mechanics are fun and I do enjoy the match’s I end up in though, it’s just those aspects will not get people to play as much. Especially the children that they are targeting, that don’t have money to shell out to make the XP grind go faster. But what’s sad, is that I want this game to do so well because out of any AAA fighter that isn’t Smash, Mortal Kombat, or Street Fighter, it has the most good going for it in the beta, and the team behind the game is very passionate about their fighter as well, enough to take away a fighter that’s overpowered to balance it out and work on bug patches as quickly as they possibly. Not to mention giving beta players battle pass season 1, and giving new players a chance to unlock rare skins, and a brand new character as well.
Alpha tester here. Been playing this game since December 2021. I still think the game is a blast at its core as somebody who just wants to play matches Im having a great time with it. The character designs and movesets and fantastic, so it's exciting to see who will join the roster next. I think the line I'm drawing for myself though is that I am not touching Rifts mode. I get absolutely nothing out of fighting computers and grinding this unfun overcomplicated mode for 15 hours to unlock loot sounds like straight work. I'll continue to play matches and have a great time with it, but also recognize that I already have all the characters I want and can't imagine a new player seeing the roster of characters they can't play and being motivated to grind for them.
The sheep in this comment section are embarrassing. These are the people who just bow down and accept this grinding, unfun gameplay and just pay way too much money for cosmetics, whatever in-game resources, or in this case... most of the roster! These people are the reason companies step all over consumers and keep shoving out unfinished products.
Every "Smash Killer" suffers from the same problem... The ENTIRE POINT of Smash Bros, the very reason it was ever conceptualized, is to make fighting games _simple and accessible._ But every single one of these platform fighters likes to go all in on the competitive side of things, having overcomplicated mechanics that are unintuitive and take a ton of work to master. What makes Smash Bros. successful isn't _just_ the iconic fan favorite characters... Its the fact that ANYONE can play it and enjoy it. Its a _casual game_ first and foremost. THAT is what gives Smash Bros. the edge over all these other games. (Of course, then Multiversus also has battle passes, microtransactions, a ton of other crap that bogs down the experience, and honestly terrible connection issues, not to mention the fact that you have to grind just to play a character, making it even less casual friendly).
smash is popular primarily because of the amount of ip coverage it has, don't pretend otherwise. there is nothing that comes close to its roster if characters that will more than likely have someone you have a deep attachment from nostalgia or favorite game series (owning a Nintendo console reinforced this even more, halo fans have an xbox but Nintendo ip you own the system already) then the second part, is that smash as a series, is one of the few Nintendo games that survived from n64 and has a regular release cycle. it Zelda animal crossing, 3D mario mario kart and Pokemon keep releasing so they naturally grow bigger and stay the biggest sellers. idk what you are smoking 😂 accessibility as a fighter is actually a joke considering how easy it is to die without proper muscle memory and character specific knowledge to recover off stage. don't get me started on casuals finding kos by spamming one B move or smash attacks to no avail, most of the time opponent SD's for them😅 and ofcourse items do the heavy lifting here as well. 2d fighters you have health and it ends when you jab them enough anyone can do that.
Bro Smash has literal OHK combos that more technical fighters like Street Fighter 6 don't have. You don't even get to play against certain characters if the player is good.
@@petercottantail7850 "idk what you are smoking" okay you don't have to be snarky about it. 🙄 I never said that it being casual was THE reason it was successful, I said it was a factor in its success. I hate how if you say anything even SLIGHTLY incorrect, people treat you like an idiot.
thats cause the other platform fighters are marketed towards a diff crowd than smash bros. like, the only two i can think of that couldve gone this accessibility route ur talking abt is NASB and MVS, and either way both of those games are still accessible at the casual level. its not rlly abt accessibility, rather the amount of content for casuals, which smash has a wealth of (largely due to the ip coverage but also bc of stuff like offline gamemodes, silly modes, etc). so i dont think the mechanics matter as much in this context esp because casuals dont really care? theyre gonna run and jump and hit regardless, what matters for them is who theyre playing as and what they’re doing (in a gamemode sense). the very first smash bros game was designed with a complicated mechanic that is subjectively unintuitive and hard to master (z canceling). so its not the mechanics that need to be designed around casuals rlly, mostly the content
@lasercraft32 slightly incorrect? Dude you were flat out wrong.. the original and Melee has so many tech moves a casual player would not comprehend. For fucks sake Sakurai added tripping and slipping in brawl because of how competitive smash was and he tried to nerf it. Hell to this day local game shops are STILL holding competitive melee and smash ultimate matches.
I used my currency to buy Tom and Jerry thinking I'd like the fighter but i didn't so I quit the game. I usually don't return to game after missing a battlepass so this game might be dead to me now.
@@roguerex292 i mean.. he could've just looked up a youtube video on how the character plays. I agree that characters should be available in offline modes, or at least in training. But recklessly buying a character without knowing if you'd like the way they play is kind of on you.
Hey man I completely agree with everything you touched on, it really sucks because the beta was such a great foundation and none of this extra shit they doing now was necessary but I blame WB for being greedy af and taking advantage of what they seen as an easy money grab opportunity sucks for us and pfg but this game will never be what it could’ve been
Another great review Trollisms! Unlike XDefiant, I played the beta of this one. I feel like the Smash clones (because let's be honest, that's what they are) would perform better if they worked together. Warner Bros, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network all have decent sized catalogues but there would be a lot more freedom if they built their game together - plus it would be better for the consumer to buy one game for all the characters they love, and hopefully a larger team of developers could make the quality of game they really wanted to.
@@dashieldmasta177 I'm well aware. Difference is, those were made with love, these are corporate cash grabs cashing in on their franchises and the popularity of Smash
1:45 The Looney Tunes Show was an animated sitcom on CN in 2012, and Taz was Bugs' dog in that, so it'd probably be from early childhood, but kids born in '06 should recognize Taz.
Don’t forget about Looney Tunes Cartoons, Space Jam A New Legacy, the two new Looney Tunes movies coming up, and that’s it. Warner Bros doesn’t really do much with their characters anymore.
I'd also like to add that playing the beta significantly reduces the amount of grinding necessary, but people who didn't play the beta are shit outta luck. I still find it scummy that they locked optional rift missions behind owning characters that existed as a daily login reward, including a variant of said character, along with refusing to reveal the Power Pledge drive event until everyone had about a week to play the game online. Naturally leveling up their characters, causing the next level up to come more slowly. If you weren't like me and had a bunch of characters you literally never touched to take from lvl. 0 to lvl. 1 (it only takes one match to tier up a character if they're level 0), you were also shit out of luck.
I’ll be honest unfortunately I fucking despise the physics of this game for some reason, I would love to like it but man. Also 30 FRAMES OF INPUT BUFFERING
I still remember when this game first came out, and everyone was talking about how this free-to-play smash-like by warner bros was actually really fun. All I could think was "alright, what's the catch?" Not at all surprised that this is how the game is like now
This is why I HATE free to play fighting games. One of the only f2p games I enjoy and think is good is Fortnite, because there is no content besides cosmetics that are locked behind a paywall. The problem is is that in most f2p fighting games like multiversus, the characters are locked behind a paywall or horrible grinding. All of the characters don’t need to be free from the start, that’s fine. But when it takes 10s of hours to unlock like a character or two it’s horrible. They should make it like “complete this mission for this character” or “log in daily for this character” (like they did banana guard). They could also have a way to purchase characters but to not make them super expensive. Idk man, this is a good video though.

When I saw a currency that could only be earned by earning other items, therefore encouraging constant impulse buying and repeat spending I just wrote the game off. I’m tired of the content begging for my time. I want games that are just inherently enjoyable and don’t do this scummy shit. I gotta keep saying it but, don’t buy characters in this game, just buy a whole game; Hades, Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, Dead Cells. For further comparison, brawlhalla, a game that has 55ish characters, all with different signatures, makes you pay 5 bucks for unlocking a character. But if you want, you can pay 25 bucks and unlock ALL of them. And all the ones that will be released.
I feel like you make the game's currencies sound more complicated than they actually are. I'm very bad at fighting games, but im okay at Multiversus, and I'm rather new to the game to begin with. And I personally understood the game rather quickly within a few days. The missions you do are usually general, like play 5 pvp matches, so you'd be doing them alongside just playing the game. The events also have a similar thing of just also giving you extra stuff while you play the game normally. I never got mixed up with the gems in the Rifts mode since the game made that very clear and i didn't really have to remember that until the game showed me, and you don't change your crystals constantly anyway. I personally also disagree with the "slow" progression in the game. The tweet that calculated the time it took to get characters didn't take into account the insane amount of fighter currency the events give away which I owe to me being on my way to get my 4th character this week. Maybe I'm somehow luckier than others? Idk. I do heavily agree on the Rifts mode's challenges though. I end up never retrying one again just because I don't want to do a single mission on them.
As someone born in the last 18 years, me and my family did watch Looney tunes but that’s cause we only had the basic channels and Looney Tunes was basically always on
If this was a full priced $60 game with a full roster from the start with some hidden unlockable ones it would be such an easy buy. Soon as I heard this was a “free” to play game I immediately checked out
I remember back in the glory days of multiversus when modding was a thing, then on Halloween they DMCA’d the Gamebanana page because we made cooler free skins then Warner Bros. I will forever miss you Ceno0 Heavy over Superman…..
I just want to say just because but I think this is mostly Warner Brothers fault because this they want money and they don’t know now to do it so they just make games a grind while also making it boring
Why in the hell can't I just pay 60$ for a game and just get dlc characters ffs. This ruins how I wanna play it, with my friends at my house. I am not willing to completely shill out for greed. I would happily pay for a skin once in a while but not being able to play as any character locally is the deal breaker
I was really happy to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing crashes with the PVP mode. Since we're both Aussies, d'you think its an issue with the Australian servers?
No no no, I am firm in America. I have a wired connection 2 ft from my router and still deal with constant stutters, desync, complete disconnections etc. This game is just poorly made. You want to see something even more interesting with this game brother? Try watching a youtube video at the same time you run the game, you will be amazed at how shit a 30gb game can run
If they weren't so clumsy with the release, had more big name characters like Harry Potter or Ben 10 at launch, and weren't stupidly greedy then this game would have done better. 16-32 characters at launch with skins to buy would have been very reasonable
When I saw your thumbnail I thought "he hasn't played counterstrike" but to be honest you brought up some good points, IMO the new UI is worse and I liked the old one a lot more. The new one feels low quality like a mobile game, it also feels like fortnite somehow and it doesn't do either job well. I also agree with what you said about rifts, it sucks atm. and just isn't fun. Im currently making a video on my experience since I love the game and want it to be better, I talk about my thoughts considering i played the beta and loved it, and mention things i miss from the beta that should be brought back. (not to advertise cause i think its scummy, but il be uploading it sometime this week, check it out if you're interested in my thoughts) Im generally very competitive in plat fighters and took Multiversus very seriously and fell in love with the game in the beta, but I'm not happy with it in its current form.
For reference, I unlocked both Stripe and Joker with a total of 9000 character tokens in the first week, which amounted to a bit over 20 hours of gameplay. Some of which were acquired with the events and beginner challenges
The big problem I have with this game over something like smash Brothers is that all of this feels so soulless in the end. Yeah smash Brothers is a property battle game but at least Nintendo helped create all of the franchises in the original smash Brothers. This just feels like "we bought a bunch of shit so let's make our properties fight each other."
The game died the first time because of the terrible hit boxes and server issues. This release is so much worse. I loved the game so much, but now it crashes or desyncs every other match and combos that should hit just don't. I give it a month before it dies again unless they fix their shit.
Thanks for putting every complaint I had about this game out there! I got MultiVersus to play it with my mates on discord, but due to the awful business practices and other issues this game has I barely even want to touch it, as of now. WB had a decently fun game on their hands during the open beta, and then did nothing but devolve it during the one year of maintenance
In the beta of the game, you could try locked characters , and when the game was offline, you could play all characters with anyone playing with you but now you can't do any of those idk why but I think it's just the unreal engine 4 to unreal engine 5 switch up made the game worse and they maybe are working on it overall I like the game but there is a few problems here and there, also good video left a like on it ❤❤
I am really sad... I loved the beta. It was so much fun, although, admittedly, I stopped playing before they added some of the more busted characters. Like, I heard Spike and Marvin were pretty egregiously powerful. But I thought the rerelease would be just as fun, so let them iron out the kinks... I already unlocked everyone I wanted on the beta. But the horror that would befall me. All the stuff I earned? Gone. All the fun gameplay? Gone. And now my internet is worse, but even if it wasn't... Still probably couldn't play what I agree is the most fun mode 2v2 pvp. And gameplay wise... They basically doubled everyone but the Iron Giant's size and did make the game a bit floatier and sluggish, and I hardly play any other fighters. But that really only bothers me when I am grinding Rifts.
I only played multiversus to play with my non gamer girlfriend and sister, because they liked the simple gameplay an cartoony characters, thats the ONLY REASON i ever played it in the first place, if i can have all the characters in local play, heck if i cant even have them for a reasonable price, ill just not play the game. The fuck were they thinking
I seriously don't know why in the world no one has thought to add Daffy Duck. I mean come on it's like a slap in the face to fans of Looney Tunes and the WB brand as a whole at this point. Also, I need Dexter, Courage and Harry Potter characters. How did we get Arya before freaking Harry Potter?
Wasn't Multiverses the game that had the stale mechanic? Where if you spammed the move got weaker ? Because Bannana Guard only used side special and it would be nice for spammers to get punished
As soon as I saw the menu and shop layouts, I immediately knew that this was going to be mobile gaming levels of abusive monetisation. And, yeah, the further through the video I got, the more that was confirmed.
The thing with smash is that there isnt a currency besides buying spirits or costumes. You get 70 something free characters and like 10 dlc fighters. 70 different characters?! Not to mention over 50 unique stages and hundreds of music tracks
I enjoy the gameplay a ton so I only play 1v1. I sometimes play 2v2 to feel that sense of comradery, although most matches are rather messy. Also tried the Rifts for a bit cuz I thought it was going to be a fun roguelike mode, but it was just boring and tedious. As long as I don't have to play the game for a year to unlock a single character, and the battle passes give me some nice looking skins from time to time, I'm satisfied. Hope it succeeds cuz I've been struggling to find a multiplayer game I enjoy for more than a month for years at this point.
I was a beta player and I unlocked most of the characters already (i have everyone but Adam and Joker) but I agree this is ridiculous and the game feels like such a downgrade now..
They could've made a hybrid, by keeping it free to play but offering a paid version for $60 with all characters and then offering each subsequent for 5 dollars, and maybe cutting in half the grind fest that this game is. I played on the release of the beta and it was really fun, coming from smash was a pleasant surprise, but indeed the over monetization will probably kill this great game before it even has a chance to shine.
This game should've never been free to play. It should've stood on its own merits and strong characters. Every character needed some type of grab move, certain people like Supes, Jason, and Iron giant need super armor. Your special attacks shouldn't have cooldown times, and there should've been some items, food and ish. Is this copying Smash? Damn right it is why would you not wanna copy one of the most successful games to date?
You’re on the right track, but I disagree with that copying smash. The roster, physics, extra modes, 2v2 focus, and whatever else they decide to add would stand out on its own. It feels different from smash mechanically, so adding some of the same quality of life improvements would simply be good
The game is soooo fun, idc what people say about the movement, but MAN the amount of grinding added and the prices of the skins and characters is soooo ridiculous. The devs seem to be working on fixing things and listening, so i have faith they can bounce back
the game isnt even that good. additionally, the writing was on the wall from the very start about how aggressive the monetization would be. its 100% not a game to invest time and especially money into.
I just wish the game rewarded the player for, well, playing. You barely get any of the currency for unlocking fighters unless there's a challenge or you're lucky and the next tier on the also grindy Battle Pass has a good amount of them. I played the game back on Alpha, and when Beta rolled out, I kinda just felt unmotivated to play now that all the stuff I got from the Alpha was gone, so I didn't unlock any characters whatsoever. Came back now since I have friends to play the game with, but I'm stuck so far with Jason, Finn, Banana Guard and Bugs, all of which I thankfully enjoy, and whatever else the game lets me use for a limited time, but I'd like the abillity to have more of a choice and not be stuck with 4 god damn characters.
Based on your pin comment and the fact they said the buying extra life is a "bug", it is very very clear that they carefully crafted multiple schemes but for each scheme they added a "failsafe" a "fix" of some sorts, so that when they get backlash it appears they react quickly, but even an overworked guy on overtime cannot fix fundamental systems of the game in matters of days. There must have been a pre-made solution beforehand to immediately use.
It’s fun in the fact that just hopping into a game is fun but when you want to grind for rewards that’s when it gets a bit iffy cause it feels like your not making progress and u have to pump money into the game if you want anything!!
I’m a shaggy main don’t hate me they let me start off with that character at the start and I just played him and never thought about changing and I became really good with him then when I tried using other characters I got smoked 😂😂😂so I just stuck with shaggy
(commenting without reference to video, as some things overlap with what is said in video) Warner Bros started pissing me off with everything they had did with Shadows of War (patent, lootboxes) When I first played multiversus in beta (after they fixed major bugs, the hitboxes, etc), I really enjoyed it. I could easily see the $10-$20 skins and I was like "that is WAY too much for just a skin". They started then utilizing the skins in events to give progress, and I was like "I see where this is going" Fast forward to now, the rifts requiring specific cosmetics that aren't available to get for free means you legitimately cannot complete those rifts without paying money here and there, unless the cosmetics HAPPEN to be available elsewhere. Adding additional 2 currencies, massively reducing any progress worth per game played, and even the event that requires you to play every single potential day or miss out on the grand reward - it just indicated there is no respect for player time. The rifts also having the gems/perks level up in types, and then having their progress seemingly depend on challenge progress and/or potentially cosmetic/fighter locked challenges- it guides you to the cash shop for what I would say is pay to win progress. I have no clue if rifts will go away over time, like a kind of FOMO, but I wouldn't put it past em at this point. Also I hate how they redesigned the UI. Selecting characters kinda felt fine before, was nice to look at, characters were sorted into type groups, but now you just look at a bland screen before actually selecting a character, instead of some some kind of background. The current issues of gameplay might be gameplay issues, but it's not nearly as fun to play as before, as it feels like there is baked in lag and extended timers.
I mean this game had the opportunity to come out guns blazing and return with a bang…it tripped and fell HARD. And before yall come in here and try to defend it, here’s the problem: THE BETA was not like this in any way, shape or form. Grinding was THERE, but it wasn’t as bad as it is now. The story mode is complete dogshit, whether you like it or not. And the gameplay is so. Much. SLOWER. This wasn’t the game PFG hyped up for so long, you can tell there is so much wrong with this release it’s sad to say it was in a better place a YEAR ago than it is now. And trust me when I say I wanted this to be so very much good, because I LOVED the beta. And while this can all get “fixed”, it should’ve been that way at LAUNCH. They had a YEAR to fix all the problems
I bought Marvin for my second character and I regretted it, now I have 260 fighter currency and now have to grind to get a character I actually am good with
I played a lot with my friend during the beta and we had a lot of fun, the “floatyness” and air centered combat was really fun and made it feel different enough from smash (if you aren’t playing puff anyway) But eventually we got bored of it and moved on because of the way you unlock characters and the amount of stuff you get to unlock them was always kinda meh at best, it was really sad to feel bored over this game
The Battle Pass XP per match is 10 for a win and 5 for a loss. Each level in the Battle Pass requires 2,000 XP. It doesn't help the grind! :(
@DerrylHopkins just throw yourself off the stage 3 times immediatly and hopefully get 5xp about every 30 seconds, that way it only takes three hours to level up one tier in the battle pass via playing the game! How gracious of the devs for giving us this quick, fun, and easy way to level the battle pass!
I love loonytoons
Nobody forces you to pay, nobody forces you to buy all character, clickbaiter. Is Super Smash Bros free? No, so shut up. Smash doesn't have to pay for all the people playing for free.
The only thing that matters is if it's pay to win, something clickbaiters like to ignore.

Someone on Reddit did the math on this. If you wanted to use the fighter currency you get from character progression to unlock a character, you’d have to max out SIX characters just to unlock ONE
Yeah and it feels like it to unlocked joker and black Adam pretty quickly but fighter 3 progress is like molasses
that’s not the only place u get the currency tho, i got all characters in beta but i unlocked joker in like 5 days using char progression and the challenges. i’ve paid $15-$20 on this game in the beta and i don’t plan on spending another penny, so far lmao the monetization is pretty much on par with brawlhalla. ik were all blaming WB for this but the f2p model sucks for fighting games, they just don’t make enough and they inevitably turn greedy, seems like mvs came out the gate that way though.

thats not the problem. why is garbage monetization STILL alive? because people are getting too comfortable with it. what once was harmful is now the norm, people end up wanting the "free daily" shit and its not going to stop until you cant play the game you already own without paying for extra shit that should come with the game already.. we already are at that point lol
Such a shame what this game has become. It's like a greedy businessman stuck their dirty fingers into a once beautiful, lovingly crafted pie.
It's a WB product alright
Was bound to happen, its WB.
It really does feel like they had a good core game and then the monetization team came in and said "how do we squeeze more dollars out of this?"

But it is bogged down a lot by shitty decisions made by the suits who ultimately control it.
it's actually really really sad. hopefully the game devs can be hired elsewhere where their talents can shine.
Leave it to Warner Bros to fuck up something that was foolproof and already had a built-in audience. It's Zack Snyder's DCEU, all over again.
Fr this could’ve been a actual smash bros rival but they screwed it
Zack Synder wasn’t the best for the DCEU though. He’s more suited for making cinematic shots and action scenes for movies than directing as he doesn’t understand DC characters like Superman or Batman at all. He made the movies needlessly edgy and convoluted (BVS and MOS).
Zack Snyder's DCEU fucking blows though, those movies are garbage

what you said is very true, the game does not feel like a game worth playing, as a new player with about 15 hours in the game,l love learning the new combos and mechanics, but I feel as though there is literally nothing to do besides grind the rifts and try to unlock new characters.
Its worth playing stfu
I’m honestly just waiting for ranked to come out to see if I have a reason to keep playing, game is fun but holy crap you’re not gonna have a good time if you’re just a casual player wanting to play with mates who are possibly also new too with limited characters and repetitive PvE modes. Free to play IPs either very greedy or grindy and this is both unfortunately
The character unlock system in multiverses exudes the vibe of “You need 80 hours to unlock Vader? WHAT??????”
and then there are also sadly the idiots who dismiss all these criticism and claiming "oh people just want to unlock everything day 1, they just have no patience".
also let me just tell ya something, you cash cows, there is a difference between "wanting to give money to support a game" and "having to give money to be able to play a game". Not to mention that a lot of people also have other interests than just playing one single game for a long time and throwing all their money on that alone
exactly i can understand the fear of criticizing in fear of the game failing, but without pointing these problems the game will have the same future of its beta.

To sum up this game in one update the grind for character levels has gotten so horribly bad that it’s almost incomparable.

Perhaps if they made a single player campaign more like Smash Bros Brawl.

(Of course, then Multiversus also has battle passes, microtransactions, a ton of other crap that bogs down the experience, and honestly terrible connection issues, not to mention the fact that you have to grind just to play a character, making it even less casual friendly).
smash is popular primarily because of the amount of ip coverage it has, don't pretend otherwise. there is nothing that comes close to its roster if characters that will more than likely have someone you have a deep attachment from nostalgia or favorite game series (owning a Nintendo console reinforced this even more, halo fans have an xbox but Nintendo ip you own the system already)
then the second part, is that smash as a series, is one of the few Nintendo games that survived from n64 and has a regular release cycle. it Zelda animal crossing, 3D mario mario kart and Pokemon keep releasing so they naturally grow bigger and stay the biggest sellers.
idk what you are smoking 😂
accessibility as a fighter is actually a joke considering how easy it is to die without proper muscle memory and character specific knowledge to recover off stage. don't get me started on casuals finding kos by spamming one B move or smash attacks to no avail, most of the time opponent SD's for them😅 and ofcourse items do the heavy lifting here as well.
I never said that it being casual was THE reason it was successful, I said it was a factor in its success.

They’d also do much better if platform fighters was appreciated as a genre instead of automatically being compared to smash.

Don’t forget about Looney Tunes Cartoons, Space Jam A New Legacy, the two new Looney Tunes movies coming up, and that’s it. Warner Bros doesn’t really do much with their characters anymore.
im 99% sure back in the open beta on release you could test out characters in training
All I could think was "alright, what's the catch?"
Not at all surprised that this is how the game is like now
This is why I HATE free to play fighting games.

If the game is focused around Teens, what kid is going to pay five bucks or grind just to get Marvin the Martian with no knowledge of his moveset? And what the hell is with the like five currencies? Are they trying to confuse people and offer no refunds for mistaken purchases?
When I saw a currency that could only be earned by earning other items, therefore encouraging constant impulse buying and repeat spending I just wrote the game off.
I’m tired of the content begging for my time. I want games that are just inherently enjoyable and don’t do this scummy shit.
I gotta keep saying it but, don’t buy characters in this game, just buy a whole game; Hades, Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, Dead Cells.
Hell, Monster Hunter Rise is on sale right now and it’s $15 with the DLC.
i played in the beta and bought the lowest of the founders packs i believe they're called because i really believed in this game (look how that turned out lol) and i do think its super fun, i have like 10k fighter gems and 12 of these like "fighter voucher" things that instantly unlock a character, and while i could unlock the whole cast i only play like 2 characters so i just sat on them all the way into the full release so i got joker immediately and was like "yay i can play the joker" and had no idea unlocking characters is this big of a deal for other people but i get it, i only play 1 or 2 characters in any fighting game i play and mvs is no exception so i personally didnt see it as an issue, theres a bunch of other little things i encountered on launch day that i was like "wow i got this thing! and this thing! and i can unlock this thing!" and my friend (who also played with me in the beta but didnt spend any money on it) was like "bro i dont have any of that wth" so there is quite a big divide between people who spent money on the game and people who didnt
overall gameplay wise i still very much enjoy it even though its alot slower, i play every couple days and have fun until i get matched up against bugs bunny
in my opinion this games biggest issues are the grinding and the balance

Yeah online only is awful especially when the genre is known as very casual and local play focused
0:12 no. it's not. it's a clone. It would like to appear to look like that
Smash didn’t invent platform fighters dude. The game might suck but it’s not a smash clone
If they weren't so clumsy with the release, had more big name characters like Harry Potter or Ben 10 at launch, and weren't stupidly greedy then this game would have done better. 16-32 characters at launch with skins to buy would have been very reasonable
Harry Potter is a no-go. WB sold the rights to NBC
I literally teared up a little when you started speeding up at 4:15. It was then I realized how many fuckin things you named off 😂😂😂
For reference, I unlocked both Stripe and Joker with a total of 9000 character tokens in the first week, which amounted to a bit over 20 hours of gameplay. Some of which were acquired with the events and beginner challenges
Idk who decided the game should be slower but I have absolutely zero interest now
Yee the whole point of smash and fighting in general is that it quick and tense
The nickelodean one is better in comparison tbh, especially the sequel
I love Jason, he is my main. BUT HE IS SO DANG SLOW, SO BAD THAT FASTER CHARACTERS CAN EASILY OVERPOWER HIM.

Yeah it used to have a large atta j down visual for staled moved
Smash Bros. has had this same mechanic in every game in the series.
As soon as I saw the menu and shop layouts, I immediately knew that this was going to be mobile gaming levels of abusive monetisation. And, yeah, the further through the video I got, the more that was confirmed.
"But it's free"
It ain't, a video game shouldn't be treated like a job for the privilege of unlocking even more tedious work to do
The thing with smash is that there isnt a currency besides buying spirits or costumes. You get 70 something free characters and like 10 dlc fighters. 70 different characters?! Not to mention over 50 unique stages and hundreds of music tracks
Another issue with the tutorial is you can’t button map yet
As an L2 jump button enthusiast it was quite painful
Bad balance, slowed gameplay, absurd input delay, terrible levels..
I want it to be better
i totally forgot this existed lol
but i don't keep up with PvP games, so that might be part of the reason.
the game is basically smash meets fornite

Warner Bros started pissing me off with everything they had did with Shadows of War (patent, lootboxes)
When I first played multiversus in beta (after they fixed major bugs, the hitboxes, etc), I really enjoyed it. I could easily see the $10-$20 skins and I was like "that is WAY too much for just a skin". They started then utilizing the skins in events to give progress, and I was like "I see where this is going"
Fast forward to now, the rifts requiring specific cosmetics that aren't available to get for free means you legitimately cannot complete those rifts without paying money here and there, unless the cosmetics HAPPEN to be available elsewhere.
And before yall come in here and try to defend it, here’s the problem:
THE BETA was not like this in any way, shape or form.
I bought Marvin for my second character and I regretted it, now I have 260 fighter currency and now have to grind to get a character I actually am good with
Same happened to me with Morty
Guess this game is turning into EA? 💀
I played a lot with my friend during the beta and we had a lot of fun, the “floatyness” and air centered combat was really fun and made it feel different enough from smash (if you aren’t playing puff anyway)
But eventually we got bored of it and moved on because of the way you unlock characters and the amount of stuff you get to unlock them was always kinda meh at best, it was really sad to feel bored over this game
