In my opinion, jet boots are well-designed because when I come across them, I feel an immediate rush of excitement and enjoyment that lasts throughout the entire mission. If they were nerfed too much, they would fail to evoke the positive reaction they currently do. Additionally, their rarity adds to their appeal, as frequent appearances would diminish the sense of excitement, allowing it to last longer.
The fact you enjoying the item isn't equal that this item is well-designed. Jet boots make a whole system of movement, where every class has his own way to done with obstacles, just useless, so you can fly around, without need to even remember about your platforms of zipline. They are still pretty useful, but missions with boots just loss a lot of gameplay situations related to movement. Playing with them may be easier or more comfortable, but this is doesn't mean, this is good gamedev decision. Especially, if we will remember, how they rework hoverboots, adding to the game jet ones seems even more absurd.
@@dukeofhollow5541The fact some classes have better movement than others can get a bit annoying sometimes, I see nothing wrong with adding an item that only spawns on like 10% of missions that gives all classes a boost in movement.
@@dukeofhollow5541 On a PVE game like deep rock you have to consider three main things (imo) to make a well balanced item, overall strenght, avaliability and fun factor, now lets break that down on jet boots They are strong, rare to find and fun to use, which is a good balance, as fun corelates to how often you find yourself having it in your mission, Its a rare pay off that benefits you with MORE gameplay options during your missions. Now lets say everyone agrees boots are too overpowered and need to be toned down, its pay off is much lower and a lot less engaging to encounter in a mission, so now you need to balance it out accoridingly, but increasing fun factor isnt a thing, so you increase spawn rate, suddenly its a common unfun non engaging item that you still only have the chance to find... I feel like the current balance and design of jet boots is near perfect its fun and strong enough but also doesnt completely replace your traversal tool and to compensate its a rare find, of the near 50 missions i did after season 4 ive found 2 jet boots so far, thats a 5% chance to find them per match...
The only change I'd like to see in Stingtails is a size increase. Keep their stats, and everything else intact. I just want them to have about the same size (if not maybe a bit smaller) as Praetorians. They should be visible in the middle of a swarm.
I’d say if it’s gonna be bigger then buff it’s health while also giving it a major weakness. The grabby tail thing. You know how you shoot the head of an exploder, it doesn’t go boom. Same thing but shoot the grabby tail arm thing off, it loses its ability to grab, but then uses it to stab you like a scorpion. It’ll have greater melee range than the other bugs but a lot less health if not killed already.
It’s hard to hold GSG to a game standard when their monetization model is top tier, half the reason I supported this game so hard is because they don’t scalp the players real money. Hard to judge a game when certain other games are dropping $30 necromancer skins on release
Yup, I don't understand how some people can feel so entitled they start complaining over free content for a game they bought one time. The devs keep adding so much value to the game, I feel kinda guilty sometimes. Most greedy devs would've locked the extra contents behind paid dlc; I'm planning to pay for supporter packs to show my support
I partially disagree with that, the reason being is that I don't believe we should compare a good game to bad games. We should compare it to it's past self and see where it is going. Truth be told season 3 was clearly a downgrade to season 2, but season 4 is very good so far, they even fixed the framedrops on PS4 which was a *massive* step up. Point being: don't justify being hostile to people critical of the seasons by comparing DRG to games with *criminal* monetization. DRG is not a saint or anything for not ripping you off - that's just what it should be like.
Well yes, but when the developers suddenly switch the development around from being full of plentiful long-term content through updates to a slow drip-feed of content via a seasonal system, you should probably expect some people to get a bit upset considering that the game's standards for development dropped significantly. And the game's monetization model really has nothing to do with the content inside of it unless if you can pay for content, which you cannot do in this game, so that's a bit irrelevant; I wouldn't simply praise a game for being completely free while the standards for development are low, nor would I praise a game for it having high standards for development with lots of pay 2 win and fomo garbage packed inside. There's a good mixture between the two, and I'd prefer something int he middle with an okay-ish monetization model and some okay-ish development rather than something that lacks both. This isn't to say that Deep Rock Galactic fits into any of these categories; I'd say it has a good monetization model and an okay development cycle, but if you compare the new development after the seasonal updates to that of the development before, it again is not nearly as good. Deep Rock Galactic simply had the good development beforehand to push it where it is now, and the amount of content already provided over that period makes up for the more relaxed period of development that we're faced with now, but I do still believe the devs should at least address how development is changing and their motives behind it instead of leaving some fans to feel upset or even betrayed at the developers' slower pace and the confusing direction.
The standards are abysmal, I agree, I’m disappointed that it’s come to it. Think of how low the bar is right now though, every game that’s been coming out has been a robbery, some have been flat releasing and then day 2 apologizing about poor quality and lack of content. No refunds, just a sorry. I will praise a game for staying accessible while trying to stay relevant, because free stuff doesn’t exactly generate income. It’s sadly no longer a binge game for me, but it’s still worth keeping in the rotation
I developed a strategy for both the septic spreader and stingtail which is just "I see I rush" which has worked wonders for me (I have been mauled to death many times doing this)
Personally. I play Scout. And I dont get to play often, even less so with my friends. But that one time I found the Jetboots. I was ecstatic. It was so cool to see how much trouble I could get into, or out of with the combo of my jetboots, and grappling hook. Hell, I used JetBoots, the perk Hoverboots, and my grappling hook, to mine out some much needed nitra that saved my bacon and got me out of that mission alive. I think the boots are fun. And work well, and DONT destroy the balance, because, Well, SCOUT can USE them too
I'll preface by saying that while I do agree Steam review system is stupid (binary reviews leave no place for nuance), belittling people for disagreeing with your views is... questionable at best, and downright malicious at worst. Anyway... Your reasonning that because the game is free, players with playtimes in the thousands cannot leave a negative review is flawed. First because no game is perfect, whether it's free or not, and second because it's precisely these people who have, in my opinion, the most objective view on the matter. Because, during that time, they saw the game change and evolve, they've been there long enough to see the paint peeling off and notice the underlying issues that have yet to be fixed, even though they alerted the devs about them. The players you mentioned aren't leaving negative reviews because of season 4 exclusively, but because of a general state of weariness, in the face of GSG developers' ignorance of the problems brought to their attention. Onto the "lack of new content" now. While I'd be tempted to agree, I'm also aware that Season 1 might have set the bar a tad too high for expectations, with new weapons, new enemies and an entirely new mission. And, to be honest, I don't expect future seasons to have as much content any time soon. I think the devs are perfectly able to make new weapons/tools that'd feel different and fun enough to have a distinct identity, but them not doing so isn't the reason behind the complaints (not to mention they have said multiple times on stream that they wouldn't add new weapons before a long time). The two new enemies are great, although I do wish GSG stuck to their guns a little more and didn't nerf them to the ground (fixing the occasional warping abilities of Stingtail would've been enough). But, I can't possibly fathom it took GSG so long to develop them. Same goes for Harold, whose AI is basically a Huuli hoarder with diarhea (it also has other issues I'll mention later when I get to the subject of Rockpox) and the new rockpox enemies, who are just color swapped variants with boosted stats. As for weapons changes, everything took place during the two weeks of Experimental Branch preceding the release of S4. And Jet boots are a remnant of old code, easily reworked. At most, it probably would've taken roughly 4 months for them to produce the entirety of S4 content. So yes, one reason people are complaining is because what we got in S4 is definitely lacking, considering it took 8 months to release. Another reason people are disappointed with S4 is because it reiterates something that already sparked conflict before, namely forcing concepts and game mechanics upon players. Season 2 was more robots, Season 4 is more rockpox. And while it sounds good in concept, the execution leaves much to be desired. While you could ignore most if not all seasonal objectives in S3, rockpox swarms and corruptors are now part of all missions, making an already tedious task of dealing with said enemies even more of a hassle, on top of shutting down all player agency in how they want to play the game (since only a few select weapons are able to deal with rockpox bugs efficiently, it restricts your build choice as a result). As a matter of fact, it's not just the lack of content that's frustrating, but rather how what we got was handled, AND knowing they had time to address long standing issues and yet opted against it, for some unknown reason. What's frustrating is having to put up with lag, crashes, freezes and other issues that have been piling up steadily over the past years or more. Most veterans don't want more content, they want more of what we already have: a polished core gameplay, free of software errors. And as to bugs being hard to find, again there are people in the community who dedicated their entire playtime to finding, recording and reporting them, for free. And yet none of the devs at GSG seems to acknowledge these people. So, again, people are not leaving negative reviews on DRG's steam page just because "they're disappointed with Season 4", they're leaving negative reviews because they're disappointed with the devs handling of the game as of the last 2 years. I am That Goddamn Scout™, I have 2403.8 hours of playtime on DRG. And while I love the game, I'm concerned about its future, especially if GSG continues to ignore those who have supported them from the start...
My primary disappointment is that the Season 4 Missions did not, in fact, guarantee you had to face and beat the new boss, presumably via a rigged spawn chance for at least one of the 'infestation' missions. *That* would have been neat, and ensured everyone got to face at least one while cutting their teeth on the new season. Also, perhaps, an increased chance of them spawning in Lithophane Outbreak missions or something. So you can go looking for them if you fancy the content today, you know? But... that's about it. Oh, I wouldn't mind if Stingtails were a bit bigger, too. They feel like they should be closer to a Praetorian level threat than a Glyphid Guard, but maybe that's just me.
Im really hoping they add a Rockpox mission in Season 5 even if the event had nothing to do with Rockpox. One of my favorite things about the rival savotage mission is that if you ever want to fight more rival tech stuff you can always just look for that mission. It helps to keep the old content still relevant and I really dont want to see Rockpox just vanish with Season 5 other than the occasional contagion spike warning...
Make it so that you have to track down and destroy 2 fully grown contagion spikes by calling down an industrial cleaner pod, set up a pipe from it to the spike and activate it to have it pump the spike full of cleansing chemicals while defending the pod. Then after both are destroyed you can crack open the core spike in the boss room and it releases a rock pox dreadnaught, and whenever you take a 3rd of it's health of it changes phase and the central spike releases something to help it, randomizing it from 3 different choices. Those being "release a cluster of rock pox spitters", "release several rock pox goo bombers", or "extend arms that throws out rock pox exploders that start to detonate when they impact"😉
The vibe I'm getting from this video and your comments is that you personally don't care weither or not the updates are good and if they're worth the wait times. The whole "I'm okay with them making changes, good or bad" mindset is NOT healthy if you want the game you love and enjoy to grow, or hell even for your own enjoyment of the game. Weither you want to admit it or not, DRG is on a downwards spiral in terms of both update frequency and their quality. Before seasons were rolled out, updates were added into the game right after they were finished. Updates were also alot more frequent and things that needed to be tweaked would be patched out quickly, with some exceptions *cough* gk2. Nowadays though, if we want any meaningful changes to something we'll have to wait 6-7 months just for the subata to finally get some updates to be slightly better than it was before. Or some changes to overclocks that could've been added in during season 3's lifespan in a quick hotfix. My point being that the pacing of modern updates feels sluggish and the content within them aren't worth the wait. The 2 new bugs are cool and I really enjoy the new challenge they bring to the game and jetboots are awesome to use both for traversal and combat, but those are probably the biggest additions season 4 has to offer since they can spawn on any mission type and modifier, but otherwise we have a mini boss which is also cool but locked to 1 modifier and depentant on rng to even see, rockpox rekins of enemies that all make clouds (not fun), again, weapon/overclock reworks that could've been added in a hotfix, and another performance pass to bloat up the cargo crates even more. All of these when you divide them are minor additions to the game, and we have to make them last for the next 6-7 months???
I absolutely adore this argument that if a person has played 1000 hours in the game, they have no right to leave a negative review. If someone has experience with the game, and especially has actively contributed to the games' community, if this kind of person leaves a negative review, that means they have a solid reason to. If I apply your own logic, then you have no right to judge any reviewers either, because you played the game for so long, which means you are definitely, 100% biased and your own opinion doesn't count.
There is a difference between giving feedback and leaving a negative review. If I’ve eaten at a restaurant 100 times and enjoyed it 99 of the 100 then leave a 1 star review cause I got 1 meal that wasn’t satisfactory, that 1 star review Is not fair to the restaurant. If a an update is not to your liking tell the devs in a way that doesn’t say that the game is bad as a whole
I suppose you do not exactly understand the issue there, which is completely fine, yet if an update takes this long to make, and it comes out so lackluster, it shows that either the developers can't do the satisfactory amount of content (which, you know, you can hire more people to do so), or they do not care. Negative reviews are the feedback that you need to rely on to see what is wrong with your game. Sure, some people do not include arguments, or do not bother to get constructive, yet if S4 is the trend that the game sets for itself, it's a pretty grim future for DRG. Remember, the true fans of the game are always going to be the harshest critics, not because they want the game to fail, but because they want to show how much they appreciate it.
I can understand your point with the general content, but as a greybeard with 800+ hours, I am growing tired of the regular progression and of the season pass. I dont need any new guns or enemies, but i want a challenge above grinding out cosmetics or praying that I can find a loot crate in a cave. I feel that the game becomes too repetitive (which is why randoweiser helps a lot) int he way of there only being a few things to chase after.
Yeah new enemies are fun and all.. but they just add to the general gameplay loop, and does not stop this feeling of repetitiveness at all (at least to me with having 650 hrs played). Like maybe have fathomless dives? A deep dive that goes infinitely down until you fail or decide to retreat, with supply drop costs scaling with how deep it goes. It doesn't necessarily add something new to the game, but you get challenged. These new enemies are fun for a few days, but I can not say that I'm still riveting on the thought to kill a menace to this day.. yet a challenge like infinite/fathomless dives will always stay fun (at least that sounds a lot of fun to me). That's also the reason why the randoweisser was the highlight of this update, because it keeps the game fresh: new enemies don't do that.
Not every game is meant to be played for 1k hours. I would suggest modded hazard levels for more challenge since only 10% of the player base even plays haz 5. From a utilitarian and business standpoint, the developers can't justify designing their game around the top 1% of players.
@@deadeyedun fair, but there’s such a huge community of DRG graybeards. I’m not just talking about 1000+ hours, once you get to lvl 100 in like 50-100 hours you really don’t have jack shit to do after that than just mindless grinding. I would like something more beyond that
Having new enemies Rockpox variants plus two new disruptors and a new mini boss is not good for keeping it fresh? Plus they've never charged for dlc? And does not keep the game fresh? Sure buds
I was disappointed by s4, just like I was with s3, but I have like... 1300h in this game and I wouldn't be able to give this game a bad review in good faith. The devs have just painted themselves into a corner by focusing too much on fashion customization. While, yeah, funny-dwarf-fashion is definitely a beloved past time of mine, it will never be a reason why anyone plays this game for 1300h. *It's a fucking first person game* Go buy the eight(?) 5 dollar DLC's if you want more fashion at this point. Now if they want to make new weapons they have to make 10< skins for it. They really need to re-prioritize on gameplay. Greybeards have basically been millions of dollar of free advertising for this game due to the amount of recommendation we give it. Don't behave like so many gaming companies and forget who made you.
im on console so I don't have season 4 yet. But regardless of how much content the game has it great, and its basically a free game. Literally since I got it on ps plus. This game is so consumer friendly, and the fact the dev still support it and its the only game they work on is great for its longevity. On sale regularly for like $10 its a steal, and each season is free so i have no complaints.
My problem with season 4 is how buggy it is. In my few days playing it I experienced more bugs, then in a previous year. So far: My microwave gun stopped shooting for no reason, but would still waste ammo. Stingtail launched me at MK5 speed and instakilled me on impact with a ground at least two times. Copying cosmetic loadouts copied my weapon builds as well. Dorreta went from a second refulling stop all the way to the start of the level, and then to the core, making one LONG trip. Half of my builds were scrambled, had wrong weapons/talents selected, or outright deleted. I've been playing since beta, and I can't recall update that would've been worse in terms of quality. That's extra buffling, concidering that this update was rather light on content.
I am soooooo tired of the "dont criticize the update, they are free!!!!1!111" arguement. If gsg are going to continue to put time and resources into developing the game, then I think it's fair to give constructive criticizism on the work that they are doing. Just because it's free doesn't invalidate criticism. Also, I am very concerned that they will continue to add new mini-bosses/events, further making past events rarer and rarer. I rarely see any season 1 events anymore. One last thing, I think that the seasons are becoming too formulaic. Adding new events, new performance pass, new cosmetic tree. With very few variations in content. Once again, I love drg and i will continue to support gsg in their future endeavors. However I am concerned for this game.
@@theboomshroom1865 echobox? Everyone saying that the update is fine and defending keep bringing up the same lazy points. I want the best for this game and gsg.
I think the point Brandino was trying to make mentioning that it’s free was not to invalidate criticisms such as your own (some of which I share) but to call out the people review bombing the game because GSG didn’t deliver everything they wanted in S4.
@@AbekomonNation good point, but everytime I try to argue my side in a civilized manner on the steam discussion page, I get bombarded by people telling me to shut up because the content is free.
Criticism is fine. Bringing up potential concerns for the future/current state is also more than fine. The real issue is people kinda just acting entitled, its more of an attitude thing than an actions thing.
5:25 I think another enemy worth mentioning here is the acid spitter. when I first started playing this game on haz5 I thought these things were so overpowered, because they can absolutely wreck your health bar in one shot and they like to hide out high on the ceiling and pelt you from above. but after getting more experience in the game, I learned to deal with them, and I no longer feel like they're "op," just an enemy that you have to really look out for. I think this is a similar situation for the new enemies, people just need time to adapt. also if I'm not mistaken, season 2 had about the same amount of content, just without new weapons. that's why I'm kinda holding off until next season before worrying about lack of content. yeah, it takes a while, but unfortunately I think that's a price to pay for a developer that actually cares about its playerbase and actively avoids "horrible but effective" monetization practices. I think it's good they DIDN'T add new weapons because the game's pretty balanced right now (imo). adding more weapons will just introduce the "quantity vs quality" problem and make balancing more difficult, not to mention the increased workload on new frameworks/overclocks (as mentioned). I wanna see a shift in focus to new mission types and biomes or something, rather than 4 new guns. btw this vid is about 1/3 dislikes, which is a little surprising to me, maybe the "get good" comments were a little harsh but overall the video's fine.
Nah, "get good" comments are never harsh. Cave Leeches instantly kill you if you get grabbed by them. There is no other solution to that other than to "get good".
@@ShroomPig Instead of getting good, I prefer screaming whenever I get grabbed because then everyone in the voice chat knows exactly what happened and will have a laugh before shooting the leech, only to get grabbed by another leech. Sometimes the situation goes FUBAR, and sometimes that's hilarious.
@@ShroomPig "Get good" is harsh because it's dismissive of the struggles of another human being, and instead of 1. Acknowledging their emotional state and/or 2. offering actual advice all it does is shut down the person in the conversation.
the update felt like more DRG which is always a good thing to me. On the sting tail specifically I have one major criticism that I think if fair enough. It's not bright enough. I can hear him but I not see it amongst a horde because it's so plain colored. For such a high priority target I would have made it's tail a weakspot and make it glow a bright red color. Many other high priority targets have this sort of visual language, including the septic spreader and rock pox enemies so I would like it implemented here too.
Its tail is a weakspot according to the miners manual- I believe its meant to be the same colour as cave leaches for design homogeneity but I do understand your point
It also has a weakpoint around the mouth, it doesnt show up in the miners manual model but theres a little blue bit thats the same color as the skin under the armor
I despise the stingtail, no enemy has completely halted my progress in every mission the way it has. Unless I'm playing scout or engineer a stingtail on the ceiling is a death sentence. I fucking love it
My issue with the stingtail is that gameplay wise, it doesnt fell like a DRG enemy. With every other enemy, armor breaking is optional. Youre rewarded for being able to position yourself onto an enemy weak point. However, stingtail's weakpoint is completely inaccessible if you dont break its armor. Imagine if a praetorian had armor on its ass. The only other enemy i can think of that does this is the brundle, and its armor breaks very quickly, and its also kinda rare and low-priority, plus its armor is very brittle. The tail grab feels overtuned as well. The stingtail can cast out the grab much faster than other distruptors, and has a much higher success rate with it. And unlike other disruptive moves, your teammates cant help you. The grabber is much more well-designed because it encourages teamwork and its attack is much more telagraphed. It and the cave leech punished you for being unaware of your surroundings and staying away from your team. The stingtail punishes you for having a good position. This isnt inherently a bad role to have. The trawler and shellbacks are punish you for holding the same postion, but theyre balanced well because they put themselves at risk to do so. The stingtail is completely safe when it grabs you, and you cant deal with it most of the time because of the other enemies around it. You cant kill it when it pulls you in because youre already busy running for your life from whatever it pulled you towards. The fact that it has heavy armor and no weakpoint is absurd. You also dont get enough of a warning before you get grabbed. Theres a quiet, generic, angry noise and then you get grabbed less than a second later. Its the same reason why people dont like the cave leech. You dont get a warning. And unlike the cave leech, you cant circumvent it with perks. The grab should be slower, the stingtail's armor should be medium, and there should be a weakpoint on it's tail, kinda like the stabber vines. The tail could maybe work like the smoker from left 4 dead. The pull would be slower with more counterplay, but more consequential if you mess up and get grabbed. These changes would make the stingtail more fair to fight and be more in line with other threats in the game
Ehh personally I like having an enemy where armour breaking is actually worthwhile to have, armour breaking being ‘optional’ meant it was completely and totally worthless
The main thing I wanted to see was more optimization for graphics and FPS on lower end systems. I am stuck with a laptop that runs Intel UHD Graphics Family, and while I can play deeprock without issues, albeit on low settings, Lithophage Spikes, the Corruptor, and even Septic Spreaders cause quite a bit of frame drop for me. I am aware mods exist to cut down particles, and I do use them whenever I can be online, they make these absolutely no trouble as far as frames are concerned. But I cant always be online due to data constraints, which leaves me wishing the vanilla experience didn't bog my frames so hard with lithophage and the spreader. For anyone curious: I run DRG with all graphical settings at their lowest, but resolution scale and image sharpening at 33%, but even at 0%, contagion spikes will still cause frame drops...Big sadge.
I didn’t know it was that bad for people it’s lower end systems! That sucks especially the fact that rockpox seems to make it worse. I hope they do some work to help out the people it affects
@@brandinorulesI hope so to. I've grown into loving Season 4, but the frame drops force me to run lithophage on haz 3 or even 2 just to do them without agonizing death! At least I can still make progress on the pass.
Saying that theres no reason to leave a negative review on a game youve spent hundreds of hours on seems very ignorant to me. While it might not apply in this case, many life service games change so heavily over their livespan that they can very well end up as completely different games, and what may have made them enjoyable in the past may no longer exist or be accessible. In the case of competitive games this can get even worse when feature creep makes old strategies either inferior or completely obsolete. Again, this doesnt apply to DRG, im just making a point that theres good reasons people can give games they used to love bad reviews.
Leaving a negative review for S4 might seem as too much but the actual concerns I heard was that the game was falling down to maintenance mode. I don't mind the developers pausing but let's be real a seson every 7 months is not being worked on 23/7. And they left thumbs down because they saw the more content fading away. So I say I d-i-s-a-g-r-e-e Season 4 is in at least some objective manner the worst season we got so far -Only 2 new enemies. They do have new polished models but that isn't enough of an excuse. I agree they aren't broken, I had my fair share with the stingtail but that was also just skill issue But they could come up with more, just modify existing models if that's the problem, 2 enemies are a big dissapointment for a highlight. We did get the new rockpox variant but they just spread lithopage and have more health. As much as I like the new design, in majority we should have had them in S3 already. -I didn't demand new primaries or secondaries but to completely ditch the new equipment part of a season... What about perks? people have been begging for that, surely making some new perks is easier than new weapons. Or utility tools? Not new ones but putting a new upgrade tier would be enough, GSG devs proved they are creative, they can be again -Overall you can say something has not enough content when everyone talks about a BEER(randoweiser) more than the actual content
People who complain typically don't desire content like weapons or huge work-heavy stuff, really the reason people (from what I've seen) are so mad, is because with the time they have taken, something major in ANY way, should have been implemented, this major is subjective however, and can be seen in many different ways. I for one, saw the amount of content and was disappointed, although I still had hope for more. Anything at all could've been added, 1 or 2 new overclocks for each weapon, overhauling the perk system, nothing HUGE like weapons or biomes, but they just did... nothing? Harold is cute and all, randoweiser is goofy and 2 enemies is nice, but any time spent reskinning existing enemies to be Rockpox variants or adding flappy bird could've been used to update the perk system, or add overclocks, things the community have been requesting for AGES. Though everything is free so I guess my argument will probably be invalid to most people.
I like the stingtail tbh, have fond memories of being taken into the shadow realm by these tusked scorpions. Easily one of my favorite enemies right now.
While other people wanted new weapons, the one thing I was hoping for (which will probably never come) is overclocks, but for the support weapons, that I think would make for a great season
@FlashOfAsh Yeah, they don't want the class identity to change or be too complicated. The idea is "This class is this, and will always do this for every game"
As much as I'd like more customisation on the tools I also feel like it would end up with people getting kicked just for not having x upgrade equipped, or because of having x upgrade equipped. I've heard this already happens with certain overclocks, which is baffling to me, so the devs probably want to avoid that getting worse. There's always some that has to ruin it for everyone else..
Hi new player to DRG here so you may call me a greenbeard. I installed the game yesterday and so far the problems I have currently are: 1. Navigating: I played Driller so I got lost frequently when drilling toward the extraction point. 2. Got body slammed by more than a dozen enermies when getting separated. Especially those that leaves gas behind. Other than the 2 above, I think the game is money well-spent with a free season pass and if you want to support the dev, just buy a supporter pack and done.
The biggest complaints I have about the new enemies is that they're badly designed, both from a gameplay balance and fun perspective - there's really no other way to put it. Septic spreaders genuinely shouldn't have been added, at least not in nearly the form they have right now - long-range, fast-firing, powerful, and incredibly annoying area denial with harder-to-hit weak spots (being on the sides, and the bug usually facing you) just doesn't ever make for a fun enemy design. Yes, they may be decently easy to counter with the right strategies, but they upset the balance of the rest of play, and are literally never fun to encounter. If you've ever played Risk of Rain 2, you'll recognize the Hermit Crabs as a similarly annoying and overly dangerous enemy. Stingtails are also badly designed, being that they're annoying to kill (hard to pick out/see, and unclear weak points), and provide easily the least fun video game mechanic ever to be invented: player stuns. This is made much worse by the fact that roughly 80% of the time you get grabbed, there's quite literally no way to see it coming. Additionally, because they have a tendency to climb around on the walls and ceilings, the fall damage inflicted from being grabbed or flung is often a guaranteed down or near-down for newer players, and still a big risk for experienced players (sometimes even a guaranteed down depending on cave generation). Again, decently easy to counter once you've played around them enough, but still just a generally boring, annoying, and moderately overpowered enemy that just feels unfair to encounter. The biggest issue with the design of many gameplay changes introduced in the newest update is that they're just flat-out _unfun,_ and they drive newer players away - I myself started playing right after season 4 started, and nearly dropped the game because of some of the things introduced in S4. Even after getting enough experience and gear to make the game quite playable and fun most of the time, I still strongly despise most elements of season 4.
1:55 GOD NO. I can't watch this any longer, just no, stop. You CAN complain, you CAN critique, you CAN whine about bad updates, not doing that is a disservice for devs, who probably want to bring u actually good shit. that being said, leaving regative review just coz one update was kinda mid is, indeed, not cool
Gonna wait Season 4 out in hopes the pox stuff gets semi-retired like the bots did. I have no idea why the devs are obsessed with every new enemy being annoying, I just can't take it anymore. DRG peaked when they added Escort/Refining and the new Dreads. Ever since it's been good OC tweaks and annoying enemy after annoying enemy. Maybe Season 5 will add enemies that blind you completely or DC you if you don't hammer some keys fast enough.
The big thing about DRG is that if the season doesn't float your boat you can just not play that season and you lose nothing, then when the next season comes out there is even more stuff to enjoy. I ignored a season at one point just so I would have more things to find in lost packs I still remember when people called foul about the tri-jaw and mactera brundle
Complaining about trijaws, I kinda understand. Very annoying enemy to face, and it feels like a cheap trick that their shots have a AoE, all in all not the worst enemy I’ve fought. But complaints about the brundle? Are you fucking insane? If they bugged it’s spawn rate I’d be happy.
@@nickr8662 honestly, after dealing with trijaws for so long, and i don't really like mactera in general, i got pretty good at dodging their projectiles. it's very cool when you dodge all the mactera projectiles and you feel like a short, hairy neo.
i have 100h on DRG and as far i understand Ghost ship is doing 6 months season where the season have a big update with lots of new stuf and a upgrade of that update (s1 + s2= rival robots, s2 + s4= plague thing) as a small company this make sense.
Season 4 sucks because rockpox sucks. It's annoying to deal with, breaks the flow of the game, and just generally doesn't feel like DRG. I don't play to be a space janitor. I don't play to be constantly frozen 2.0 (can't move AND take damage). It's just shit, and doubling down and making it even more annoying for season 4 is almost as funny as it is annoying. In saying that, I still think DRG is the best game I've probably ever played and I wouldn't ever "not recommend" it. I do recommend it, always. The things I mentioned don't ruin the game, they just make it worse. They should lean into what people actually like about the game (I know, shocking). Add new mission types. New overclocks. Better cosmetics customisation. I don't think new weapons should be added unless they bring something truly different to the game. I much, much, much prefer having a small number of weapons that always see use and can be configured in many different ways, than having 500 weapon that feels mostly the same, of which only 2 are considered "meta". Maybe even figure out a way to add new attachments similar to overclocks that add further nuance to existing weapons. In regards to review bombing the game, I'm not gonna tell people what to do. If they feel it's necessary, that's on them but I won't be joining them. If people are unhappy with the update and seemingly the direction that their favourite game is moving in, they should speak up instead of blinding fellating the devs as if they can do no wrong.
@@madmonty4761 that doesn't mean that you can't be angry over the quality of update. I paid for game itself and for a supporter pack, they deemed that to be enough to deliver a free update, the problem is that it's shit.
"Just take armour break against stingtail" The sheer fact that you need to change your build just to be able to kill 1 type of bug is absurd. What if I want to run drak with deflector overclock and zuk with embedded detonator, but now I can't cause of one creature. I honestly want to love the stingtail, when it first came out but it needs changes.
First of all this video here if you have the time basically shows everything flawed with season 4, I highly suggest watching it if you have time to spare: th-cam.com/video/bhG1Ti9RujQ/w-d-xo.html To go over that video: 1- New rockpox enemies are not well made at all. At the start of season 3 you were supposed to be close to the enemies because of the random blisters, this was great because most of the time you would want to stay away from enemies so it posed an interesting challenge that was engaging but players learned that the drills were incredibly op against rockpox enemies so what did gsg do? They made roxkpox enemies fill up your infection meter if you are near it when it dies. What is the problem with this? Well now you don't want to stay in close range because you are gonna get infected but you don't want to stay in long range because you can't kill them. This was... fine, it worked because you could move around grunts and pretorains but with season 4 the new enemies are even HARDER to kill. The goo bomber has little blisters that can't be shot easily when they are flying on top of you. The spitters are basically snipers that are incredibly hard to kill because of the long range they stay in. exc. 2- Stingtail is op because, and im going to copy this from a post: "They don't have any weaknesses. They have a lot of health so it is big and slow? No it is fast and small. It hits very hard so it doesn't attack very often? No it attacks often, very often non stop. Ok so it has a clear weakpoint so we can take care of this enemy that can wipe our team and this argument is supported by the fact their sound is so recognizable so the entire team can focus on it? FUCK YOU it is under really though armour." 3- Septic spreaders are... well they are very well balanced but I wanted to point out just platforming on top of the goo doesn't work. I honestly don't have anything against harold other than having to switch between using the foam and shooting, it gets a bit annoying but you don't see harold a lot anyways. It is important we show this feedback to gsg because games die this way. If everyone pretends all is fine it will get worse and worse. What seems like a small problem now is going to build up until it reaches a breaking point.
Okay, I have massive problems with this season, pretty much all of them come from the sting tail. Have a monster that’s able to pull you to the ceiling with barely any notice is ridiculous, not to mention that at times it’s literally unavoidable (sand blasted corridors slowing you and then a stingtail pulling you)
i was scared for a bit this was going to be a super white knighty video for a bit. imo the way the seasonal content is going is worse than the pre-season updates. They take longer to relesase, and the themes are kind of limiting. the new content is amazing, but not enough for the time between and to support an entire season of grind. Also i'm pretty sure cosmetics may be taking up too much of the art team's time for other stuff to happen. each season adds an insane amount of new models to the game, which is a lot of work. imo i'd be fine with a half length performance pass and cosmetics tree, with just more time put into gameplay stuff.
Free update or not, people have the right to complain, one have the right to complain and give opinions about what ne consumes But with what I don't agree is people nitpicking stuff instead of actually giving feedback and thinking that the game is RUINED when imo they made Season 3 which was already very good, way better Enjoy the game miners and don't complain about every little thing Rock and stone
I agree with most of your sentiments in both videos, however 2 points I think need clarification: 1) To just say "stop complaining" imo isn't healthy for the community and developers. 100% agree that leaving a negative review for the game is the wrong outlet, but maybe offer an alternative where opinions can still be shared 2) I know it was a somewhat arbitrary number, but to say someone with 100 hours of game time shouldn't leave a negative review is a bit reductive. Especially juxtaposed with the similarly absurd negative reviews from like 8 hours of playtime. It feels quite restrictive to say you can only negatively review if you've experienced the whole game, but not sooo much
i love this game but saying "noooo you cant complain" the moment people start putting their opinions out is a really shitty thing to do. like what is that title dude? "QUIT COMPLAINING!" are you my mom? I paid for this product and i have the right to complain, so that the devs understand and fix the issues in the game. aside from that, the only problem i have from the update is that the stingtail is too tanky. if getting focus fired by 3 people like 7:08 in your video is fine for an unreliable distruptor that sometimes pulls you from across the cave even though he's not supposed to, and deals MORE DAMAGE than a slasher (also straight-up one shotting by throwing you off a ledge), at least make their spawns more reliable so i dont have missions where i dont see a single one and have another one where theres 20 of them throwing me around like a bowling ball. the other one makes the game more interesting and is easily killable, jet boots are fine honestly, and the new enemy is kinda too weak and doesnt do anything unless its in a really tight cave where you cant dodge its weird attack, often times we either wipe trying to kill it or kill it so fast i dont understant what happened lol.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I wanted to put my own thoughts down as well since I've played for over 900 hours. I'm enjoying the subata rework, and from what I've heard everyone enjoys the reworked overclocks, mainly because the old versions sucked. I think the addition of jet boots was actually implemented pretty well. They're powerful, yeah, but they're a RANDOM EVENT. Back in the experimental build, I used to prioritize finding jet boots over everything else SO MUCH that my brain developed a trigger specifically for whenever I think I hear the crate ping, and I got agitated whenever someone forgot about the cheat terminal. The stingtail and septic spreader are only overpowered because they're new, and I've already found a counter for each: sludge pump for melting stingtail armor, and weakpoint bonus upgrades for the septic spreader. Harold CAN be a pain in the butt if not handled properly. Once more people realize the patches of infection he throws out can be foamed and vacuumed, something I discovered by putting two and two together using the knowledge I gained from last season, then maybe people will change their minds. I don't need to say anything regarding the reviewer harassment. And for those complaining about the lack of new content: I've played driller EXCLUSIVELY. Literally and without exaggeration, the only time I played another class in my 900 hours of playing was in the TUTORIAL, and the game is still as enjoyable as it was when I first started playing. Just admit you get bored easily and try out modding.
I think the backlash that season 4 is receiving is just the result of a couple years of decaying update quality. Ever since Deep rock released, the quality of the updates has gone down. As a person who has been playing since EA, ive noticed this trend. After 1.0 released, the free content patches they released were excellent and filled with content. It didn't really matter that they lacked a consistent release schedule or duration, the content was great! I'm talking about update 31, 32, and 33 respectively. Its no coincidence that the moment they moved to the seasonal model, the updates started to become worse. Im not talking about just lacking content, but the content overall being worse. If you look at the previous seasons and ignore the weapons, alot of the content is just not as good as before. Overall i appreciate the game still receiving support, its just hard not to miss the original post launch support the game had. I wish they would stop this seasonal model, and make updates that focus on a specific type of content (biomes, enemies, overclocks).
I'm loving season 4 with 300 hours of game time. The stingtail was a great addition since it added needed disruption to defense missions especially after you have a solid defense setup. I haven't really dealt with plague spreaders much but they make easy targets.
Given that ppl may cry about the bugs being to strong, imagine how the bugs feel about the dwarves and their guns. On the notion of guns: I don't see the "lack" of new guns as an issue. I think all of them are great and unique enough as they are. Developing things similar yet unique enough would be quite the challenge that MUST be taken cauciously, keeping in mind how important the guns are to the game. I dont want 50 lame guns. I want 5 crazy ones. (crosses fingers for 40k boltgun in the future) Also, the devs are still working on the overclocks, buffed and changed several of them to make them better/more diverse, which is 100% the right call in my opinion, since I think that the overclocks are what makes builds interesting. Short and sweet: Every shooter has guns, but only Deep Rock has overclocks. The new buggs are unfair assholes that kick my bearbeard ass all the time. Does it make me mad some times? Yes. Does it make me happy whenever I get to murder these bastards? YES! Make room with a big boom! I love season 4. Rock and stone.
In my opinion Septic Spreader is balanced by being glow-in-the-dark orange. Because of that colouring you can see it from far enough away and either deal with it or just shoot it. Scout can deal with it by either throwing any grenade and shooting it or aggroing it and moving it away from the rest of the team (and then shooting it). Engie has the Ka-boom and Loki for a good kill and pancakes to erect a roof over the objective as you've described it in this vid. Gunner has the Bulldog which stuns or if you're a good thrower you can use the sticky nade to make it fear. I think shield works as well? Driller can either build a Bunkie, freeze it with the Cryo Cannon or if you have the It Burns! mod for flamethrower just light it up.
I'm not going to be a Leaf Lover and complain about the lack of contents. For GSG and to roll out free updates for 5 years while also working as a publisher is nothing short of a Herculean feat so having less content compared to previous seasons is understandable. I like Harold, I like the Jet boots, the updated Overclocks are an absolute game-changer, the Spreader is my favourite bug in the game..............but the execution is what I would call disappointing, especially in Solo play. While I welcome the difficulty spike in multiplayer (I might find it too easy sometimes even on Haz 5), solo is a miserable experience on Haz 4 and above with constant horde spam to the point where all 3 of the Grunt variants would clip into each other simply because there's so many of them. It just feels like they've taken a Quantity Over Quality approach with Solo. The Septic Spreader, though advertised as an artillery unit, acts like grandpa in a shopping mall. That thing is clueless 90% of the time and some dwarf would dome it before it could even strike like another canon-fodder enemy, instead of striking in 4-5 bug formation from afar to lay on the pressure. I know some people would try to "counter" this argument with the Spitter from L4D2 and I'll gladly rebuke that comparison. The Spitter's attack is almost instantaneous, so even if it's slain quickly, there's a high chance that its attack is already coming your way, forcing your team to scatter out of self-preservation. The Spreader takes the heat-death of the universe to start launching something so poor thing is closer to reaching the Shadow Realm than being a threat. Harold, while rewarding to kill, is mind-numbingly boring to chase without the Jet boots (especially in Solo). Plus the fact that both of them were advertised together as a singular "big boy" unit of the season only to become separated and randomized events can sometimes feel like I'm being falsely advertised, and I'm sure many feel the same. But ultimately, I have faith in GSG gradually addressing these issues over the course of S4, maybe spawn Harold and the Jet boots together more frequently because that combination is really fun to tackle, maybe the Septic Spreader will soon become a long range artillery unit that can strike even without direct line of sight,....maybe this, maybe that. I don't care if people perceive this as "entitled" or not, I have my opinions and I'll share it. I've spent over 1000 hours in DRG and I want to spend more.
Consistently juking the sting-tail strike is so satisfying. I do wish a weak-point was more identifiable. I don’t mind not being able to see the sting-tail because it is more menacing that way.
Wish the Stingtail was more identifyable, almost the same size as a guard, looks like a guard, and blends into the swarm. Needs something more diffentiable from other swarm glyphids.
Agreeing with what sniss says, I think they should hold the phone for a moment and actually start implementing changes that will be visible to the player. What I mean by that? They've added a new mini boss this patch, which I rarely I see, I've played 9 games and haven't seen that boss yet. For me, this update is just couple of new bugs, which are cool but some of them also don't appear in some games, rockpox spreading more but again missing in some games and jet boots which are once again missing in some games. Safe to say that, it's not something you got worth for 7 months of waiting. New biomes, missions and weapons, hell even perks and overclocks are more.... there. You see them. You feel their presence. They are new. That's my frustration with this season. The fact that it's been 2.5 years since we got a new biome in a game where the map is so important is kind of sad. But I wouldn't leave negative review. Deep Rock still is my favourite game on steam and will always be.
The only thing I dislike of the new season is even more pox enemies (annoying, waste time to kill them thanks to their pus balls, not fun to deal with, even robots are more fun than pox enemies). I didn't like them in S3 and avoided pox missions after maxing the tree. Now I have to deal with these annoying missions again if I want to max S4 tree.
The points you advance don't invalidate the fact that the season is lackluster in terms of content. Leaving a negative review for this is indeed absolutely ridiculous, and I must say I love the content that was added in season 4, all the enemies added are fun and interresting and the boots are a cool mechanic. But for a game that has accustomed us to a consistent flow of content through its past seasons or updates, this is still extremely disappointing. There are ways to add a good amount of content without going for full new weapons (and still, they had 7 month to work on it), like new overclocks, a new mission type, new warnings...
lmao I love this! They both have blaring weaknesses so im glad that from a new players perspective they fit right in! I hope you keep enjoying the game for many hours to come! rock and stone brother!
I like how chill season 4 is, the lack of content kinda works for me I can just focus on the few new things more rather than get distracted by too much content. I will say tho, I still haven't seen a single rocket boot crate in any mission which is why I forgot they were added until I watched this video
I feel like we should wait longer for a massive update, drip-feeding is just not cutting it for me anymore. Delayed gratification is one of the healthiest habits to fall into, I think the community can handle it. Also, PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NEW ENEMIES?! They create so much more varied combat, and they are just more special enemies.
As someone who started the game only a month ago, and spent almost 400 hours in already. To me, the game is amazing with lots of creative decision going into the game, although I get why they’re complaining about the lack of content or harder enemies, still I would definitely play the hell out of it.
Like I personally thought that the new features with season 4 were bad but the thing is that the cosmetics to me made up for it and either way if season 2 didn’t have the new secondary weapons it would have been bad as well so I’m just thinking of season 4 as a appetizer while they work on season 5
Stingtail even got nerfed, only being able to grab you from 10 meters away. Before it was.... scarier. And septic spreader is so easy to take care of. POP POP and boom, thing is super weak. Players simply have to just adapt and learn to survive. Learn the movement, learn your weapons. Find ways to obliterate weakpoints with an epic shot. These bugs are here to offer simple diversity, and the leaf lovers that complain are not ones who learn, let alone change their playstyle or mindset. It's about having fun, surviving together, drinking beer and working together. Don't try to fix something that ain't broke. Stick to it, lads.
My favorite driller loadout ATM is CRISPR flamethrower + colette wavecooker. Flamethrower with upgrades to inflict as much heat as possible, and wavecooker with temperature shock. Stingtails and septic spreaders are both relatively easy to set on fire, and the temp shock from the wavecooker does a good amount of damage. It's also good for ignoring a lot of the armor the enemies come with. That's my solution for dealing with them, specific to the driller class. Satchels also work in case of emergency.
Whether you read my last comment and completely misunderstood it or I forgot something or you just missed it, I still think you are wrong in some places. In any case, you should read my comment under the previous video if you haven't. 1. 0:01 and 0:20 are you fucking kidding me. The person that got bullied because of your video is the first thing I see in this video along their negative review. Great job, feels like this is intentional, I hope it's not and you have at least some decency Edit: you said you fixed it, hope you did. 2. I and others left a negative review not only because of season 4. These negative reviews have been there for a long time. That's because the game has been falling off for a while. And I wish that was just an update with free content, but the glitches and other awful features just unavoidably make the game worse. I don't complain about free content, I complain because I wish this content was not in the game in the first place or was better. The game was in it's best state during U33. Actually, I think overall season 4 is one of the best updates yet in terms of quality of conent. I love the new bugs and the new difficulty increase. I only wish stingtail had a better sound indication. 3. It's great that the corruptor is not bound by any awful mission types. But you know what should've recieved it's own mission type? The rocket boots. I have no idea what the fuck these things are for, they feel so random and serve no purpose. We never really needed them, they are just a random fun feature. Now, for example, imagine if we had a mission type that actually requiered rocket boots? A generation that feels unpassable, yet you have just to correct tool. So rocket boots in their current state are just... I don't even know what they are. There could've been done so much more with them for sure. 4. Asking for a whole new set of weapons every season is just unreasonable, of course. And I think the game doesn't need new weapons, just fix the old ones so they feel new and on par with the current ones. The game has VERY SERIOUS powercreep. And it's not like there aren't features that lack something. Perk system is super outdated and could've been easily updated. So many more balance changes can be made and better. As I already said, most of the balance changes were made in 2 WEEKS BEFORE RELEASE. They just slapped a rendom x2 buff on TEF instead of actually thinking for a little. It's honestly not that difficult to make simple number tweaks, the veteran community already figured it all out with math and A FUCK TON OF TESTING AND EXPERIENCE. So the only thing we got in terms of weapons are subata and pbm. Double barrel is a simple number tweak with a boomstick specific fix for fire delay. 5. About glitches. With your example of terrain laucnhing you across the map. I think you are correct for the most part. However. ONE PROBLEM. THIS BUG HAVE NOT EXISTED BEFORE. I don't care if season adds new conent and it requires some bug fixing. The problem is when the stuff that was always working CORRECTLY just BREAKS with nothing in patch notes about it. AND THEN IT NEVER GETS FIXED. Oh yea, you remember how you could rock and stone while building stuff? Yea, a small bug, really nothing major, sad that it got fixed, but no big deal. The big deal THAT THE FIX COMPLETELY BROKE WEAPON SWITCHING. And it's still broken to an extent. Oh yea, you said that you should use armor break against sting tail, good idea. BUT ONLY IF IT ACTUALLY WORKS. Armor Break completely doesnt work on a couple of weapons, just a useless mod, on AoE it's apparently fixed and it's so fixed that armor break on any AOE weapon is just absolutely useless. It used to work and was kinda useful sometime in the past. And all weapon's armor break used to work. Season 4 also broke bloom on all weapons. It now just very consistenly doesn't work properly. And there are many many many more bugs to discuss that are never fixed or/and never existed before.
I did read your previous comments. I feel bad for the guy who has been harassed. it was not at all my intention to have people seek the reviews out and leave hate. thats why ive done what i can to rectify it by bluring the names in that video now. as for the moments where I show the thumbnail of that video that contains the review, I have also blurred that now (did it just minutes after I uploaded the video and realized that the name was readable) but for some reason TH-cam is taking forever to process my changes and update the live video. Sorry
Still think the septic spitter spawns should be lowered during salvage operations. Their shots are arched so at times it is nearly impossible to complete the salvage operation point hold because septic spitters keep shooting from cover and you have to keep leaving the point to kill them, and when you get back the point its already overrun with bugs. Mean while the point hold has gone back to under 40% when you left it at 80%.
Season 4 is a bit disappointing, but it’s really not that bad, given that it’s free and the small amount of new content is extremely high quality. My personal issue isn’t the lack of content, but actually just how rare the new content is. I’ve played about 14 hours of the new season so far, and I’ve seen both of the new glyphids only a few times, only two of the new rockpox enemies, neither of which are the corrupter, and one singular jet boot. I think if they just upped the spawn rate of this stuff for a while, it would make the season significantly better overall.
Honestly this season has been a giant mess with people. Some see it that this game should be exempt from criticism because the content is free and then others complain and don’t recommend the game for a free season. People argue a bunch. I feel as season 4 definitely wasnt an amazing update but it doesnt matter because i still love this game and woulda played update or not But just because the content is free it doesnt mean you arent allowed to complain (Also i hate harold he’s incredibly annoying)
I dont understand why people take it so seriously. Ghost ship has been doing a great job. Ive played about 1k hours which is a lot but I've gotten bored and burned out before... so I just move on for a bit and come back afterwards. This new season might not have as much new content as some others but they in general seem to do more incremental updates that overall change the game for the better. I agree with your stance on the get good part of it. Like yeah there are new enemies... learn them and get good. Its not that hard. Wow the enemies do tons of damage in haz 5? Nooooo waaaaaay. Your stances in general have been pretty in tune with mine.
Yeah there are some people that are really mad about this free update so I felt this video was necessary. Glad that we agree on most things tho! I def don’t think that we are alone
🤷 sometimes any season in any game can hit or miss. Some like and some don't. You can please some of the people, some of the time. But you can't please all of the people, all if the time. Challenge and discomfort is challenging and new. Usually that's better then "same old, same old". I left Destiny 2 awhile ago and went to Hunt Showdown and CP 2077, and now DRG. I find bugs amusing, challenging to grow skill, but I will always hate over priced seasonal DLC.
As a 100+ hour player with all dwarves promoted at least once, I say this season is pretty solid. I still unfortunately have not had my encounter with H A R O L D yet, but the jet boots are fun when you do run into them. The new enemies are fine in my opinion. Kill them first and you don't have a problem (wow, what a revelation!!).
As a newer player who got the game this year, I'm enjoying the heck out of it. The only thing that had me scratching my head was that some reviews were listed as being posted 2 to 3 years ago, where I'd think there were less updates and content. Though it kinda sounded like it was being read as if it was posted this year or critiquing this season, when it could of been reviewing an earlier version of the game. Could of just been wording, but yeah that's what I noticed.
I generally agree with you on this. Season four didn't "ruin the game" it was just a smaller update than usual. The only parts of this update that I disliked is that if you get lucky enough, you can experience all of the new content in one to two missions, and that we did *not* need another random event that'll give nothing but XP when the season is over. It was a good quality of life update, but should have either come out sooner or had more content. In fact, my friends and I have been theorizing as to why this update is so small. Maybe something happened at Ghostship that caused delays and other headaches, or they pivoted from an initial (possibly more ambitious) plan that could have been too large, so they put in the stuff they finished and slapped some season 3 theming on it, or next update will be significantly larger than average. I trust Ghostship, because they understand their community and try to make their games as good as they could be, and I hope this is just a brief stumble.
Im glad you agree. I think you may be right with the speculations about gsg getting bogged down by something. Looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the future
Honestly, the Stingtail and Septic Spreader haven't been too much of a problem for me, I think they've been fantastic to fight, and it's been fun getting a sense of how to deal with the Stingtail in particular As for the jet boots, I think they're nicely balanced, great upward momentum, but the forward momentum relies entirely on you moving beforehand, elsewise you just go up And on top of that, how quickly they overheat does balance out you being able to access normally harder-to-reach places easily Loving season 4 so far, and I can't wait to see what comes next ^^
My issue with season 4 is that i either get missions with a lot of stingtails or missions with a lot of septic spreaders. I almost never get mssions with both. It kind of feels like some sort of spawning bug?
It’s intentional. Each mission the game selects a spawn pool of certain enemies so if they aren’t both selected you won’t see them together at all in that mission! I have seen them at the same time tho so I know it’s possible for them both to be present
@@TheEnemy10225 Not sure if you play on pc but if you use custom difficulty mods you can get tons of bugs, I do wish i got them both at once more often but it does happen
“New” player who started about 3-4 ish weeks ago and already has 50+ hours and has done elite deep dives and always did has 4 till haz 5 was available all with a single buddy of mine. The sting tail is a dog shit enemy. Idk in what world you think it’s a “get good” problem. OFTEN TIMES, not always as you were trying to imply the video, there is no counter play. You just get hooked from behind and pulled into enemies, taking a perk when you might only have one just for a single enemy that may or may not even target you through the expeditions is just bad design. Drg gets a ton of praise, and I think it’s good, but I also know for a fact it’s far from perfect. (Rng completely deciding what overclock you get is another huge negative for me)
It's such a dumb argument - "it's free, you have no rights to complain". Yeah ok so in your mind they can make the worst decisions in terms of new content (or in that case the lack of it) and god forbid we say anything negative. The only thing I like in s4 are cosmetics from performance pass - they're really cool. When it comes to gameplay, nothing really changed for me or in some cases it changed for the worse
Just incase you forgot, deep rock has a development team of (I belive) less than 40 people, cut them some slack, not everything in drg can be some huge extravagant new thing. Theyre people.
Regarding players with high hours leaving negative reviews: Reviews are the front-facing metric for how people feel about a game, people dont tend to jump to the Steam Discussions page. These negative reviews are the only way for those players to put their grievances forwards. Ive seen people with thousands of hours in games give them a nmegative review, because those players are genuinely disappointed with the new changes or updates. Its pretty much the only barometer we have for seeing how live-service games are reflected over time. Also your understanding of the review system is maybe a little limited; by all means you can enjoy and play a game but feel it shouldn't be recommended to others.
Tad late, but if you have 1k hours in a game you have no right to not recommend it for lack of content lmao that is over a month straight of entertainment
@@toast6375 Games can be utterly ruined by patches. See: OW1 to OW2 transition. Yeah, THEY considered that horrendous mess a new game, but a lot of publishers would not. If they added a P2W shop to DRG I think even people with 5000 hours would be justified in leaving a negative review.
A few things here - the point about taking armor break just for stingtails could work, but it doesn’t seem like great design to have to build specifically to deal with one enemy, as armor break isn’t usually used super often. Additionally, many of the armor break mods are bugged, and the some of the ones that aren’t (looking at you warthog) work in such a way to make them far less effective than their alternatives. Pretty sure lazymaybe discusses it in one his videos if you’re curious As for stingtails making it impossible to get revives, I know they should be focused as soon as you see them, but it really sucks when you get pulled off a teammate or resupply when using iron will cause one of these showed up when no one was alive to kill it. The other grabbing enemies do feel more balanced. Leeches are stationary and low hp, so you can quickly get rid of them, grabbers give you tons of warning, fly above other enemies with a glowing weakpoint, are relatively slow, and can be fended off for a long time by a few hits, and while this isn’t a great counterpoint, trawlers are rare and grab you infrequently enough (they just surf around most of the time lol) that they’re not much of an issue. As for the comparison to bulks and septic spreaders, while bulks are kinda overpowered, their rarity makes up for it. I’ll see 10-20 septic spreaders in a mission that has them in the spawn pool, but you usually only see one or two bulks. You can leave the uplink zone or put down a bubble shield to get away from a bulk for 15 seconds, you can’t do that for every spreader though. It’s the fact that the spreaders do what they do along with the fact that there’s so many of them that’s an issue. If there were like 3 spreaders in a mission, no biggie. But when a new one shows up every 30 seconds it starts to frustrate people. I personally don’t mind them too much, but they reaaally punish you for not having good coordination, which can be an issue in some public lobbies. While I’ve been getting better at focusing these enemies, and technique, practice, and skill certainly help, it would be nice if stingtails were more visible for instance to help you see what you need to focus down. Spreaders are well-designed in that aspect, you can immediately see them snd deal with them, but the stingtails have a habit of hiding in a crowd or on the ceiling and just throwing you around while you get attacked by other bugs. It’s hard to focus on something that you can’t see. Point being, the new enemies are manageable, but it’d be nice if a few things could be changed to make stingtails easier to focus at least. Spreaders do feel okay to fight, although I can definitely see why people don’t love them, cause they really hurt if you don’t kill them fast. R&S! ⛏️ Edit - meant to mention this in the stingtail section, but a cooldown reduction on the grab would be a solid balance option too. One grab isn’t bad, but getting grabbed every 2-3 seconds while trying to focus them is rough. A 5-10 second cooldown could help them be an interesting challenge that rewards you for stopping/dodging the grab, rather than a speedy cave leech on legs that doesn’t stop til it’s dead.
I was honestly hoping for some new loadout feature in the Season 4 that wasn't just Randoweizer. They did Primary, Secondary, Grenades, and I was thinking that maybe they might do new pickaxe mods, or even better, a new utility for each that matches the playstyle of the class but is different enough to make it more fun? That would have been pretty cool. I honestly really wish at some point we could at least customize our traversal and utility tools. Driller's drills always have to be yellow and they all have the same models. No Fourth Relic, Custom Engineered, Dark Future, nothing? I'd at least like to color them... They need a bit more love. I think that's part of how it feels a bit more disappointing? I just kinda expected a new thing with loadouts since they had that rhythm going, but suddenly stopped.
From what i remember ghostship said they didn't plan for deep rock galactic to be a live service game. So I dont expect too much from the free updates and just enjoy it

@@dukeofhollow5541 On a PVE game like deep rock you have to consider three main things (imo) to make a well balanced item, overall strenght, avaliability and fun factor, now lets break that down on jet boots
They are strong, rare to find and fun to use, which is a good balance, as fun corelates to how often you find yourself having it in your mission, Its a rare pay off that benefits you with MORE gameplay options during your missions.
I agree with this
I’d say if it’s gonna be bigger then buff it’s health while also giving it a major weakness.

Abysmal standards.

It was so cool to see how much trouble I could get into, or out of with the combo of my jetboots, and grappling hook.
And while I love the game, I'm concerned about its future, especially if GSG continues to ignore those who have supported them from the start...

yeaq,
My primary disappointment is that the Season 4 Missions did not, in fact, guarantee you had to face and beat the new boss, presumably via a rigged spawn chance for at least one of the 'infestation' missions.
Took me and my friends about 20 missions to see the new boss which is pretty insane
Harold isn't meant to be a boss enemy like dreads or caretaker, he's literally a rock pox version of prospector.

Speaking fax.
Sure buds

My problem with season 4 is how buggy it is. In my few days playing it I experienced more bugs, then in a previous year. So far:
My microwave gun stopped shooting for no reason, but would still waste ammo.

It is a bit hard to see! I agree with you on that
It also has a weakpoint around the mouth, it doesnt show up in the miners manual model but theres a little blue bit thats the same color as the skin under the armor
@@purisaz6289thats the head under the armour
@@caosin3667 yea
So I say I d-i-s-a-g-r-e-e
Season 4 is in at least some objective manner the worst season we got so far
-Only 2 new enemies. They do have new polished models but that isn't enough of an excuse. I agree they aren't broken, I had my fair share with the stingtail but that was also just skill issue
But they could come up with more, just modify existing models if that's the problem, 2 enemies are a big dissapointment for a highlight.
Not new ones but putting a new upgrade tier would be enough, GSG devs proved they are creative, they can be again
-Overall you can say something has not enough content when everyone talks about a BEER(randoweiser) more than the actual content
While other people wanted new weapons, the one thing I was hoping for (which will probably never come) is overclocks, but for the support weapons, that I think would make for a great season
i have thought about this idea as well but idk how they could do it in a balanced way
GSG has stated that such a thing will NEVER happen, and i see why, they have a certain role, that they should fulfill
I installed the game yesterday and so far the problems I have currently are:

GOD NO.
Jet boots and the rocket barrage overclock is just too fun
The boots are so much fun to use! I’m like a kid in a candy store when I get em
@@brandinorules I'm a big fan, got my flappy bird game down too lol I'M READY!
I ignored a season at one point just so I would have more things to find in lost packs
I still remember when people called foul about the tri-jaw and mactera brundle
lmao I didnt know people complained about those too
Complaining about trijaws, I kinda understand. Very annoying enemy to face, and it feels like a cheap trick that their shots have a AoE, all in all not the worst enemy I’ve fought. But complaints about the brundle? Are you fucking insane? If they bugged it’s spawn rate I’d be happy.
i remember the horde of angry bunkerers when the oppressor and other digging bugs was added

First of all this video here if you have the time basically shows everything flawed with season 4, I highly suggest watching it if you have time to spare: th-cam.com/video/bhG1Ti9RujQ/w-d-xo.html
To go over that video:
1- New rockpox enemies are not well made at all.
FUCK YOU it is under really though armour."
3- Septic spreaders are... well they are very well balanced but I wanted to point out just platforming on top of the goo doesn't work.
Have a monster that’s able to pull you to the ceiling with barely any notice is ridiculous, not to mention that at times it’s literally unavoidable (sand blasted corridors slowing you and then a stingtail pulling you)
I agree that in those cases it should be patched
i was scared for a bit this was going to be a super white knighty video for a bit.
imo the way the seasonal content is going is worse than the pre-season updates.
Free update or not, people have the right to complain, one have the right to complain and give opinions about what ne consumes
But with what I don't agree is people nitpicking stuff instead of actually giving feedback and thinking that the game is RUINED when imo they made Season 3 which was already very good, way better
Enjoy the game miners and don't complain about every little thing
Rock and stone
They saying the being free doesn't automatically makes any update perfect.
This video went way too hard into the realm of fanboy, it actually made me NOT buy the game after looking for reviews.
I agree with most of your sentiments in both videos, however 2 points I think need clarification:
1) To just say "stop complaining" imo isn't healthy for the community and developers. 100% agree that leaving a negative review for the game is the wrong outlet, but maybe offer an alternative where opinions can still be shared
2) I know it was a somewhat arbitrary number, but to say someone with 100 hours of game time shouldn't leave a negative review is a bit reductive. Especially juxtaposed with the similarly absurd negative reviews from like 8 hours of playtime. It feels quite restrictive to say you can only negatively review if you've experienced the whole game, but not sooo much
The stop complaining title is mostly for clickbait purposes
@@brandinorules thats fair
i love this game but saying "noooo you cant complain" the moment people start putting their opinions out is a really shitty thing to do. like what is that title dude? "QUIT COMPLAINING!" are you my mom? I paid for this product and i have the right to complain, so that the devs understand and fix the issues in the game.
aside from that, the only problem i have from the update is that the stingtail is too tanky. if getting focus fired by 3 people like 7:08 in your video is fine for an unreliable distruptor that sometimes pulls you from across the cave even though he's not supposed to, and deals MORE DAMAGE than a slasher (also straight-up one shotting by throwing you off a ledge), at least make their spawns more reliable so i dont have missions where i dont see a single one and have another one where theres 20 of them throwing me around like a bowling ball.
the other one makes the game more interesting and is easily killable, jet boots are fine honestly, and the new enemy is kinda too weak and doesnt do anything unless its in a really tight cave where you cant dodge its weird attack, often times we either wipe trying to kill it or kill it so fast i dont understant what happened lol.
the title is cliclbait.. thats what the title is. dont hate the player hate the game in the case of youtube!
Just admit you get bored easily and try out modding.
you have... checks notes ... 900 hours on driller alone?
I have 2.2k hours in dbd and I absolutely hate it, and I feel it just keeps getting worse.
(crosses fingers for 40k boltgun in the future)
Also, the devs are still working on the overclocks, buffed and changed several of them to make them better/more diverse, which is 100% the right call in my opinion, since I think that the overclocks are what makes builds interesting.
THANK YOU!! You just pulled my thoughts STRAIGHT out of my brain!
We aren’t alone in these thoughts!
Or your both rock pox worms... hmm....
@@brandinorules the DRG community is sometimes referred to as a hive mind which I wholeheartedly agree.
the only thing i don't like about this update is that the bug that shoots ketchup lowers fps
Luckily it's a lot easier to clean contagion spikes
The points you advance don't invalidate the fact that the season is lackluster in terms of content. Leaving a negative review for this is indeed absolutely ridiculous, and I must say I love the content that was added in season 4, all the enemies added are fun and interresting and the boots are a cool mechanic. But for a game that has accustomed us to a consistent flow of content through its past seasons or updates, this is still extremely disappointing. There are ways to add a good amount of content without going for full new weapons (and still, they had 7 month to work on it), like new overclocks, a new mission type, new warnings...
As a
lmao I love this! They both have blaring weaknesses so im glad that from a new players perspective they fit right in! I hope you keep enjoying the game for many hours to come! rock and stone brother!
@@brandinorules ROCK AND STONE!
I like how chill season 4 is, the lack of content kinda works for me I can just focus on the few new things more rather than get distracted by too much content. I will say tho, I still haven't seen a single rocket boot crate in any mission which is why I forgot they were added until I watched this video
I just started playing. This is the only season I know
Same for me
I feel like we should wait longer for a massive update, drip-feeding is just not cutting it for me anymore.
Stick to it, lads.
based takes my man! Rock n Stone!
Great job, feels like this is intentional, I hope it's not and you have at least some decency
Edit: you said you fixed it, hope you did.
Sorry
best comment here. get this man a true
I agree with everything except for the Stingtail bit. As they stand they *are* unbalanced.
The only problem I have with sting tails is when they just fling you in the air and kill you with fall damage
hover boots perk?
@@NickHunter I don’t think it’s fair being forced to use half of your active perk slots just to counter one enemy
Honestly this season has been a giant mess with people. Some see it that this game should be exempt from criticism because the content is free and then others complain and don’t recommend the game for a free season. People argue a bunch. I feel as season 4 definitely wasnt an amazing update but it doesnt matter because i still love this game and woulda played update or not
But just because the content is free it doesnt mean you arent allowed to complain
(Also i hate harold he’s incredibly annoying)
Kill them first and you don't have a problem (wow, what a revelation!!).
lmao yeah its a crazy concept
Honestly, the Stingtail and Septic Spreader haven't been too much of a problem for me, I think they've been fantastic to fight, and it's been fun getting a sense of how to deal with the Stingtail in particular
As for the jet boots, I think they're nicely balanced, great upward momentum, but the forward momentum relies entirely on you moving beforehand, elsewise you just go up
And on top of that, how quickly they overheat does balance out you being able to access normally harder-to-reach places easily
Loving season 4 so far, and I can't wait to see what comes next ^^
My issue with season 4 is that i either get missions with a lot of stingtails or missions with a lot of septic spreaders. I almost never get mssions with both. It kind of feels like some sort of spawning bug?
It’s intentional. Each mission the game selects a spawn pool of certain enemies so if they aren’t both selected you won’t see them together at all in that mission! I have seen them at the same time tho so I know it’s possible for them both to be present
@brandinorules gotcha. I just wish I had more opportunities to fight both at once.
Regarding players with high hours leaving negative reviews:
Reviews are the front-facing metric for how people feel about a game, people dont tend to jump to the Steam Discussions page.
@@toast6375
No, you have the right to not reccomend it
If the product has changed over time and has delivered underwhelming results
@@toast6375 Games can be utterly ruined by patches. See: OW1 to OW2 transition. Yeah, THEY considered that horrendous mess a new game, but a lot of publishers would not. If they added a P2W shop to DRG I think even people with 5000 hours would be justified in leaving a negative review.
the stingail and septic's complaints are the exact same as the oppressor and trijaw complaints when they were added
lol people are just scared to adapt to change
A few things here - the point about taking armor break just for stingtails could work, but it doesn’t seem like great design to have to build specifically to deal with one enemy, as armor break isn’t usually used super often. Additionally, many of the armor break mods are bugged, and the some of the ones that aren’t (looking at you warthog) work in such a way to make them far less effective than their alternatives. Pretty sure lazymaybe discusses it in one his videos if you’re curious
As for stingtails making it impossible to get revives, I know they should be focused as soon as you see them, but it really sucks when you get pulled off a teammate or resupply when using iron will cause one of these showed up when no one was alive to kill it.
Edit - meant to mention this in the stingtail section, but a cooldown reduction on the grab would be a solid balance option too.
Sorry chancellors review of season 4 is far better than this one.
From what i remember ghostship said they didn't plan for deep rock galactic to be a live service game. So I dont expect too much from the free updates and just enjoy it
I checked an online on season 2 and season 4 and compared to s1 and s3. Online is always down for 10-15k on release date. Leaving a negative review is a cringe, by the way. I don't like season 4, but I will never change my review from positive one, because this game gave me a lot of wonderful experience since 2018. And I see that they actually listened to the community and changed some OC, which is fantastic from them! Bought DLC, as I always do, because I just love these devs. Those who can't take criticism and those who can't politely deliver this criticism are the losers. Stay together, adequate dwarves.
The background smooth af gameplay reminds me of those Tony hawk pro skater videos where people who talked about issues while Tony hawk plays in the background… good times also as a rookie miner I completely agree with all of these points and love the new update not unbalancing anything. ROCK AND STONE!!! FOR KARL!!!

Yesterday i had a player saying he was gonna quit the game because of the new season and then after dying a few more times on our haz5 he left the game very sad
MC: Classy moves team!
If you played haz5 in Season3, then it is reasonable to start with Haz4 in then new season due to the new enemies increasing the difficulty and also the potential of stumbling upon the rockpox boss. You can't just jolly around the map anymore as you kite them, you actually need to prepare paths and battlefields prior to each wave
@@LocherYT People playing on the hardest difficulty and complaining the game is too difficult is a new format of joke to me

funny how "it's hard for the devs to add new stuff in the game" as if that wasn't their full time fucking job
