    Great video, I especially like the split screen format showing closeups of intruments and how they look and behave in real flight which is not something you really get to see much on a full size sim let alone a real aircraft. So thanks to all involved in the making of this video!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for the great feedback! The status of the flight management system changes to CAT I as soon as the autopilot is switched off. CAT III status requires the autopilot on for an automatic landing. I did the final approach and the landing by hand, so the status changed. In general, an automatic landing would be possible at Mallorca airport. But we can do that only if air traffic control grants protections for the beam of the instrument landing system. This is typically done if the weather is foggy and you cannot see the runway at the normal approach minimum.

      Goid question: They both fly very similar during the approach. The NEO climbs much better, uses less fuel, makes less noise, and generates less emissions. If I could choose, I would always take the NEO.

    Why did the pilot turn off auto-pilot very early at about 3000 ft when glideslope was already locked? He was just in a mood to fly the aircraft by himself manually? What if he let the ILS control the aircraft till 500 ft. above and then he hand flew it?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The pilot flying decides when to switch off the autopilot. I usually switch it off at about glideslope intercept. Other pilots may disconnect earlier or later. Legally, you can fly the approach down to 500 feet or even lower, if the minimums are lower, with autopilot on. Disconnecting earlier gives the pilot more time to become comfortable with the amount of inputs needed on this day with this airplane.

    • @adonisaseem
      @adonisaseem ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks.. When you disconnect autopilot and fly with sidestick do you only look at the flight director (and those 2 pink rhombus shapes) while providing manual inputs to the sidestick or also look at the actual live view?
      Another question: If a runway and the aircraft both are equipped with CATIIIC then why not always do full autoland.. why to use it only during bad weather?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. They did and they know the contents. Before the audio of this video starts, the crew asked ATC about speed restrictions during the approach. ATC answered that there are no ATC speed restrictions and that flying „your own speed“ is approved. That was done. So the crew flew 250 knots below 10000 feet and used optimum speeds for the rest of the aproach. By the way: Even after the own speed approval, ATC can always advise the crew to fly a certain speed or to continue with standard speeds.

    I was flying in NEO few days back as a passenger and I have to say it's an amazing airplane. The noise level is minimal. You know when an airplane starts acceleration on the runway and it push you back, and that engine sound... there is no loud engine sound at all. It was the same feeling like sitting in Tesla for the first time. You see the car is moving and you hear artificial engine sound but it's not even close to other engines. This was an amazing experience. I just love this airplane.

    ILS Signal incl glideslope from 50 nautical miles away? you're not getting this in MSFS2020 :D

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Mallorca-ILS-Signal has a good range and quality. You usually receive it very early if you are not too far away from the centerline. I only have FAA data handy, but EASA and ICAO may be similar: FAA requires a standard normal ILS to give a good signal up to 28 nautical miles away if you are +/- 10 degrees of centerline. Due to obstacles and terrain, the range may be reduced and the signal may be completely unusable down to a certain distance. Especially if you are mre than 10 degrees off centerline and far away, Localizer and Glideslope indications may be completely wrong.

    Hello, great video!
    I noticed there was an arual alert on rollout when the autobrake (?) was disabled? Is that a NEO option?
    Also, what were the messages that the FO kept canceling on his DCDU (also with an arual alert) on approach?
    Thanks!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the good feedback! Your observation is correct: There was the autocallout "autobrake off" announced when I hit the brakes and canceled the autobrake. This is a feature of the NEO we flew. I do not know if this is standard or an extra option. I never saw this feature on an A320 CEO. We used the DCDU during the flight for ATC communication. During the approach this digital communication was ended by ATC, which is normal. The plane and ATC continued to communicate further and there were some connect and disconnect messages showing up, which were cancelled by the First Officer as Pilot Monitoring.

    Wieder ein tolles Video und schöne Landung - vielen Dank! Die PFD cam ist super! Darf ich zwei Fragen loswerden?: was ist das piepen bei 2:20? Und was genau ist der trigger für das Fahrwerk? Dachte 1000ft AGL / 4 nm aber hier fahrt ihr es schon etwas früher..

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Vielen Dank fürs gute Feedback! Das Piepen habe ich auch gehört und mich gewundert. Ich vermute, dass es ein Piepen ist, das auf der aktiven Funkfrequenz von jemand anderem gesendet worden ist. Vielleicht ein Equipment-Test oder so etwas. Es kann auch auf der Notfrequenz gewesen sein, die wir parallel immer mithören.
      Was das Ausfahren des Fahrwerkes betrifft, gibt es keine genaue Höhenvorgabe. Ziel ist es, im Normalfall in 1000 Fuß über der Höhe des Flughafens in Landekonfiguration mit ausgefahrenem Fahrwerk und Landeklappen in Endanfluggeschwindigkeit unterwegs zu sein. Etwa zwischen 4 und 7 Meilen passt das Ausfahren des Fahrwerks meist ganz gut. Das hängt natürlich auch davon ab, ob und welche Geschwindigkeitsvorgaben im Anflug von der Flugsicherung gemacht werden. Das Fahrwerk hilft aufgrund seines Widerstands auch sehr gut dabei, bei Bedarf schnell viel Geschwindigkeit oder/und Höhe abzubauen.

      During the approach with an Airbus 320, the lowest selectable airspeed is calculated by the airplane on the basis of the original, from the pilots entered weight from the load sheet without fuel (Zero Fuel Weight) plus the remaining fuel in the tanks. This speed is shown in the MCDU-display. Also the plane does an independent computation of its weight and the resulting speed on the basis of aerodynamical data. This speed is shown on the PFD (primary flight display). Prior landing, we compare the speeds and use the higher of the two as basis for the approach speed on final.

      @@ApproachandDepartureVideos that was fast :-) Thanks for the explanation !
      One more question: It looks like the sitting position is quite higher than the input (Stick) and thrust Levers. Doesn't that feel "uncomfortable" ? I can only compare to a care where i prefer to sit "in" the cockpit not "above"... Not sure if this makes sense but curios about your thoughts

    I've just found your channel and it's great to see you hand flying the aircraft from a long way out - more pilots should do it!
    One question about the NEO: is there much difference in the handling (especially when landing) between the NEO and the CEO? I know that many CEOs have sharklets now, but do the physically bigger NEO engines have any effect?

      Thanks for the good feedback! I only did a few landings with the NEO. The landings have not been different from CEOs with sharklets. I flew approaches with autothrust on and off. The large NEO engines did not react differently than the smaller CEO engines. I expected a little more delay when advancing the thrust at the NEO, but that was not the case. Other advantages are: Less fuel consumption, less emissions and better climb performance. The engine start takes a little longer.
