TastyGuitar.com Please I’m trying to incorporate those awesome fills in a 6/8 song but I don’t understand the timing for doing this... The song is i don’t wanna be you anymore from Billy Eilish. Hope you can help....
I can't tell you how helpful these R & B fills lessons have been for me. Been playing for 45 years, grew up listening to Jimi and not knowing where his chops came from. This is the Holy Grail. When he was known as Jimmy James backing up Curtis Mayfield, LIttle Richard, Sam Cooke, etc., he used these licks as a foundation for his inimitable style. You hear Earl Klugh, George Benson, Larry Carlton in these licks, too. Well done......
Bring it back. How did we ever move out of that sweet soul music. The word soul always seemed to capture my feelings when describing this music. Thanks Rick.
Rick, thanks for posting this. I love double stops and your lesson here encourages me to get more of them under my fingers. I usually go from a given chord, straight to an octave and then back to full chord. This lesson certainly compliments and/or dovetails with playing octaves. Again, thank you very much for posting this Rick!!
Great stuff! After playing 47 years there is still room for improvement! I never went into this kind of light soul and traditional R & B stuff but i love it! Thanks! It took me an hour to refresh my skills thanks to your excellent video's!
I know I'm tardy to the party, but this video and your Soul licks video are both AWESOME! And I agree with the poster below, these are GREAT for inspiring new riffs, licks, songs, and ideas! Much love from Music City, USA!
What this proves to me, and I guess I already knew what just how important articulation, rhythm, syncopation etc are. The notes are just 12 simple notes but what makes a style is all that other ‘feel’.
Not only your best lesson IMHO, it is my my favorite lesson of all time. I love this stuff, exactly as presented. Hyperlinks to the time of each lick would be appreciated but that is the worst I can say. Thanks for not boring us with the theory, the ones that know it, don't need it, the ones that don't, don't wanna know, or can look it up themselves.Knowledge of the thirds in E from the d string down going up and down the neck is all they need to look up or figure out for themselves.
Absolutely amazing, I just discovered your video tutorials and oh my god they are just what I was looking for. I love teddy pendergrass and these licks could not be more perfect for what I want to play. Thank you very much.
I can't believe I finally learnt all these licks in one week... This after being afraid (rightfully so) over a year ago of first seeing this video of which, I first had to learn and drum some more theory into my brain and be more comfortable with fretboard intervals and CAGED patterns in relation to their root positions and surprisingly learning these licks went like a dream - just gotta get my dexterity up to the correct speed and tempos, but so far I am overly joyed - I cannot thank you enough sir, you're the best!!
I love your videos, could you please make a lesson with a whole progression and some fill licks? I am a bit of a novice but trying to keep up! Thanks for all your hard work in creating these excellent videos.
Yup! Just what everybody said below! This is the second of your must know licks lessons I've looked at and these are some of the best lessons I've seen in 50 years of messing around with guitar!
Great stuff man! So refreshing to see this kind of musical and insightful content on such an iconic yet overlooked (these days) genre of music. Taught and executed with great taste and feel. Bravo!
Fantastic stuff. Playing for 23 years and there is so little instruction in this style. So fresh sounding. Definitely hear John Mayer incorporate this in his style. More!
Thanks so much for putting up these videos, I am following all your videos and the content is really rich. I am really learning a lot and the lessons are really easy to follow, digestible and immediately useful. You couldn't have chosen a better name for the page !!
I'm about to shed so hard on your videos. Just what I was looking for for taking the next step. Beautiful work and beautiful playing, thank you so much.
this is the best demonstration I have seen so far....im am now a following fan...thank you sooooo much I play a lot of these chords and have trouble with the fills thank you
