..just when I'm about start making snarksome comments about how Funk more than steady 16ths and sliding 9th chords,..and name drop legends like say,...John Schofield....I finds this hidden gem💎..🎸🎶👍
Rick, I'm jumping into an RnB band with some stellar musicians and I've been bouncing through your vids here for ideas on approaches. I've been playing a long time, and my musical journey has brought me through a lot of what you're teaching here, but I still find a lot of inspiration in your lessons. thanks for taking the time to do such a great job!
Yet another badass lesson from you. Explained so clearly and with potential to use it instantly. Just how a guitar nugget should be devoured. Keep it up man!
Holy cow, many thanks! Thumbnail got me and I just picked this up and jammed it in G then E like silk to my funky shreds! EZPZ for ME-Z! New trick, RAD!
Yeah, seriously! Good one! I had a similar experience on a short vid a few years back with the box shape and obviously the Pentatonic a little so I've been able to apply them together to kinda solo in key up the neck in bluesy rock backings and random stuff on the radio or with dad since...this will give me another trick {;o)
I love watching vids like this on occasion nice to know the names and theory behind what I've been playing all these years. Really tasty stuff. 😎🎸🎶🙏🏽🌎🙏🏽
very cool. I don't understand much theory so I always remember the shapes visually, this helped a lot and was fun to play and make up new ideas in a "limited" space that is actually not so limited at all.
very cool thanks for this. i don't play a lot of long solos in my band bc were a big group but get little punches here and there and ill be trying to use this method
I highly recommend Rick's book 101 Essential Rhythm Guitar Fills and Grooves. The grooves are great, easy, based on chords and very inspirational. The can be used in any style and can provide you with ideas to create your own fills.
Don't we all 😎🎸🎶 ec400vf Although I had to hot rod mine a little being a Korean made. Hand wrapped SD's and tapping pots , for that bright Tele tone. ❤️💥 🙏🏽🌎✌️
Back in the seventies I read an article in Guitar Player (remember magazines?) about this pattern written by Jeff Baxter. I don't recall the "Dorian" term being used then. I would go to this in an Eagles, BTO, Mott the Hoople or some such cover song and even the drunks in the bar would look up and go Wha? Great tip. Subscribed.
yeah I remember Guitar Player mag, cant remember the last time I read a print one though lol. Yes this sound fits right in there with Baxter's Steely Dan stuff. BTW these days the drunks at the bar are too glued to their phones to even look up haha

“Tasty Guitar”. The title is apt. Every note you play counts and your playing is so very melodic.

Hourglass GOLD! I'm going to be all over this at the pool party this evening. Most valuable four minutes I have seen on youtube.
The tempo of the phrasing in this lesson reminds me of the way James Brown sang songs. Stunning playing that makes me smile.
