Ok so I had to pause watching this to tell you..you...are...amaZING!!! I really appreciate you talking thru what you are doing instead of just showing us..you painting and speeding up the video. Please Please move to Arkansas so I can take lessons from you!! Subscribed..and now..back to the video!
Thanks so much Jack, I appreciate your kind comments,..Stay tuned as I have much more great videos to create here on TH-cam! We are just getting started! Hopefully I can make it out to Arkansas in the near future to meet up and do some painting with you! :0)
I love this method and thank you for this beautiful tutorial. I have 140 lb paper and noticed you used 300 lb. I wonder if I can work this same way without the paper buckling so much where I can't control the different pigments movement?
140 can work two by repeatedly wetting the back of the paper as we work on our paintings…this way it stays flat ,… works really well on Masonite or more plastic type working boards.
Great job! I am a beginner and learned a lot from you. Especially how to manage the water content of the paper. Haven't seen that advice on any other videos. Do you ever soak the excess pigment up with a brush instead of blotting? Overall a nice video/lesson to watch.Thank you for the insights.
it looks like you use a brush that looks like it has a needle nose... maybe it is just the way it looks, but do you have a brush like that? You are so amazing and make your tutorials very user friendly.Stay safe in these challenging times.
Thanks Rhonda, I appreciate your kind words! Yes, that is a red #8 Alvaro Castagnet needle point brush,... every watercolor artist should have this brush...It's necessary for any type of landscape or flower painting!
Hi Judy, me too! Adding a little extra water at times really makes things fun! :0) Happy Painting and I will be creating more painting's like this one in upcoming videos going forward! :0)
@@cpetri766 Aloha Chris yes Hawaii is paradise with perfect weather, multi cultural and beautiful subjects to paint. Your excellent tutorials are helpful, inspiring and hopefully will motivate me to paint again! Our big move to another island and the challenges of settling in has disrupted my rhythm quite a bit! But I'm so grateful for your patient teaching methods! Aloha!
Thanks Susan, this one is really fun to paint! Using tons of water is a really unique look. Thanks for watching and your sweet comments! Happy Painting
Thanks Chris. Wet into wet is really fun. Trying to confuse? 300gsm is 140lb, 300lb. Is 640gsm. I had to stop and think a minute there, lol. FA is beautiful paper. Very pricey though, esp. at 300lb. Ouch. Way to precious for me to practice on. Their Studio paper is ok and is a cotton /Wood pulp mix. If I wet both sides it stays open and doesn't buckle being 140lb. Don't get the beautiful diffusion of the FA, but it's not bad. Thanks again.👍
Hi Annette, thanks for watching and the interesting and insightful comments. Your correct, wet into wet is really fun and I used to paint in this style a number of years ago. I have to experiment more with different papers more often. I'm glad you are having good success with your paintings,... thanks again and Happy Painting!
I'm really glad that I read your comment, because I've been trying the wet to wet on the 140 lb paper and my paper keeps buckling and then I get a puddle down the middle. So I'm curious, when you wet both sides of the paper I'm assuming you are not taping the paper down as it would be wet and that would be hard to do? I hope you don't mind my question. Thanks!
Wow, just love it! I too was wondering how you were going to pull it off. Therein lies the difference between yourself as a skilled watercolorist and myself as not :-). Thanks so much Chris. I learned a lot!
Hi Jim, your very welcome my friend! I am glad you are watching and joining along with us painting watercolors! Happy Painting, and keep up the good work.
Hey Chris. Another great video and technique! Really love the way it turned out. Just wondering if you have a video on the portrait in the background at the beginning. It's very Hockney like!
Hi Andy, that was a practice painting I did from one of Charles Reid’s books. Thanks for your kind comments and I’m glad your painting along with us! 👍😎
Wow! I wasn't sure how you were going to pull it off, but you did. Another Chris Petri masterpiece. I might give this a try. BTW, you need more subscribers.
Chris, great video, thank you. I am in need of a rigger brush and would like to know the exact kind you use (used at 37 minutes into this video). Would you be so kind as to provide this info? Thank you
Hi,... thanks for watching! I purchase my needle point brushes from Alvaro Castagnet's website. He is a very famous watercolor artist from Uruguay. Happy Painting!
Thank you . having a go at this using some fruit and a vase I have. Do you draw slightly dark for the camera or do you always draw quite dark sketches? Been having trouble with shadows so this really helps.
Loved this video !! Such a great tutorial and so much adventure at the same time ❤️
Absolutely love that loose flower painting
Thx Breda, those watery type paintings are fun 👍😎

Love it ! Very loose and looks clean
What about using a heat gun to help the drying process or is that a big no,no?
Question: are you using a DaVinci Travel #7 brush?
Hi Jeff, no and yes! 👍😎
Love the looseness of this. Amazing how that cad red kept bleeding through. Loved all the colors!

Really like this different style, Chris, has a diffused, painterly done quality to it, thank you.

Hi, I a new follower. One thing I want you to do, I'd love better sound.
300 Lb /640 gsm I believe.
Love the video. Please put a mat around the finished painting so that it shows better. Adriana
Hi, thanks for the compliments! I hear you,...a mat makes the painting!
