This is the most fun I've had all year!!!! I LOVE sending cards to encourage others and now I can send pretty handmade ones! Thank you Chris, I'm so glad I found you!
I am a card maker. These are great. I always thought painting had to be THE best job. Never thought I could do it, but here I am learning and lovjng your style and instructions.
Chris, I am a novice with just enough talent to ‘dabble’. I love your work! I celebrated my 86th birthday Dec 23. I have made friends with my watercolors - occasionally acrylics - during the months of pandemic and bypassed boredom and saved my sanity! Hope it’s ok to use your paintings; believe me, you likely would not even recognize them. No selling. Just for the joy of it! Thank you! Joy Sinclair
Hi Joy, I’m really happy to know your painting and enjoying the process. Belated Happy Birthday to you,... thankfully we are making it past Covid with new vaccines and herd immunity now. Keep safe and happy new year in 2021! 😀👍
I'm drooling over this style! One thing I've noticed is that almost all watercolour artists I admire are masters of loading juicey brush and using a light hand. Something about that technique seems to work and I need to get better at it.
This is the second time I’ve done this one…I have a kolinsky sable brush now and that made all the difference in the world! My painting turned out really nice. Thank you!!
You remain my absolute favourite Chris. I learn so much from you. I don’t know how you do it, week in, week out, fresh, interesting and informative watercolour lessons. Thank you so much. Again and again: thank you
Hi Liana, thanks so much for the compliments,.. that’s really kind of you! You’re very welcome and I’m really happy to be on TH-cam teaching. It’s very exciting and fulfilling for me! 🤠👍🏻Happy Painting
Thanks so much for these helpful videos! It's so great the way you walk us through step by step. This vase of flowers is one of my favorites to do! And I like painting along with you!
I enjoyed watching you make this card. I love making cards for people because they enjoy them so much and it doesn't take a long time. You make it look so easy and I love your style Chris. This card was beautiful.
Thanks a lot. You are a great teacher! Now I am in quarantine and you are also a great relief. Now I live in Germany but I have lived almost four years in NYC and I would like to try to paint some NY corners. Take care and I will follow you in the next hours.
Thank you Chris for taking the time and doing all these videos I watch everyone and follow them they are so helpful. I’ve learned so much from you. Look forward to many more videos.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it. I tremendously enjoy creating these videos for everyone! There is nothing more exciting than progress when it comes to Watercolors,... a very challenging medium.
Wonderful, I really want to paint loose like this have tried but always over do it , now that I have found you I will keep watching and hopefully improve Thank you.
Thank you! You made my day today. I've been struggling with watercolor. I'm new to it. You made it easy to learn this painting. I will do it a second time as I know I can do it a lot better. But at least now, I know it's attainable. I will be subscribing to your channel. Again, thank you so much. I was feeling pretty discouraged.
Hi Patti, thanks for watching and painting along,.. I’m glad your having fun and the rest just works itself out with watercolor. Happy Painting and more videos are on the way
I would love to received such a beautiful card..😊...I would like to ask you what is your palette..is small but I like has 4 ""plates"" where you can mix the colors
The different colors of tape have different strength adhesives. I love the purple “Delicate Surface” tape but I always warm the tape as I peel it, regardless.
Hi Trish, I purchased that at “ the little brass box company” online. Hopefully they still have them, however they probably have pallets very similar. 👍😎
A beautiful gift love the abstract flowers a joy to see how you paint this Also thank you for the clear explanation and advice by the way did you panit on a dry paper ? Take care and stay healthy
Hi Marianne, thanks so much... glad you are with us! Yes,... I mostly work on dry paper... on this painting it’s no different. Hope your art is going really well! 🤠
Slightly tilted, for TH-cam videos,... but I usually paint with an Easle normally with almost vertical surface about 160- 170 degrees if reference point is the floor at 0 degrees.
First visit to your site. Thank you for a calm, intelligent painting session demo. What brand is the colored tape you use? There are so many now, and all of them seem quite similar to me, but I've experienced paper damage and tears from them, including those described as specifically "fine art" tapes.
Hi, thanks for watching and you can never go wrong with frog tape. It's available online or at many of the big box stores / home and garden stores. Happy Painting!
I have read that if you use regular painters tape and stick it on and off your jeans or some kind of clothing a few times it will still work nicely for holding down your paper but it’s not so apt to damage or tear your painting.
Hi Jeanne, I always use a metal paint palette and use paper towels to clean versus tissues as they leave oil deposits on palette,.... then water and paint coagulate on the surface... I use Schminke for small metal palettes, and Holbein makes a beautiful large aluminum palette,.. it's black and folds in 1/2. Happy Painting! I have a Palette video if you type in My Palette by Chris Petri. I believe I show both of the Palettes above. Good Luck and Happy Painting. :0)
Hi Dana, checkout my TH-cam Channel archives, I have five or six simple boat tutorials there that are wonderful for you. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe! :0)
Thanks Karen, I always want to make sure I’m overly explaining everything. This way everybody gets what I’m thinking and doing,… the process and methods so to speak 👍😎 many people from TH-cam over the last number of years have sent me their watercolor paintings and I’m just amazed at how successful they have become at drawing and painting in watercolor. I hope you are doing great too! Happy Painting
@@cpetri766 I've painted three from your tutorials so far. They are very easy to follow and your videos are some of my favorite water color tutorials on TH-cam! I especially like how you go over the drawing process as well as the painting process and don't choose subjects that are too difficult. I'll send a picture of the three I've completed 😃
Lol,.. no sponsers from tape manufacturers yet..... but I’m open to that idea! Hey, I just don’t want my friends on TH-cam to have their expensive watercolor papers to be ruined by the inferior masking tapes out there... especially when they’re making heart felt occasional cards... this point is really important!
I really enjoy your actual painting but I feel the constant talking and comments about tape etc a bit tiring! Don’t want to be rude but it’s a bit long winded!
That’s ok Jane, I used to turn down the volume myself on some of the watercolor art videos I would watch on you tube. I’m not offended in the least! 👍😎
Thank you for highlighting the tape that works well. That makes all the difference.
My favourite- loose beautiful floral.
Thank you Chris. I really connect with both your teaching and painting style. Your generosity in sharing your skill is appreciated.

Wow fun!

Lol...,I was wondering
Loose as a goose - love it! No messing about, straight in with the darks, contrary to most watercolour tuition but it works!
Hi Chris love the card making looks great Malcolm
I like your colors!!!!

Welcome to my channel Pauline, I'm excited your painting and joining along with us here! :0) Happy Painting!
I love the loose painting, thank you for showing up. Not sure why we had to see/hear about the painter's tape three times, though.
Lol, l thought l had inadvertently rewound it a couple of times.
Lovely tutorial. Thank you.

Hi Gigi, type in TH-cam chris petri palettes,… you you will see all my many palette tutorials 👍😎
Lovely, what was the last brush you used
Raphael and Alvaro Castagnet #8 needle point brush 👍😎
Painting starts at 17:00.
Thank you so much! It is amasing work!!!
Thanks so much Niina! :0)
Love this method of painting but find it really difficult to loosen up. I’ll just keep practising. Thank you so much.
You can do it!
Hi Chris. I love this travel palette tin you show at about 3:43 in the video. What is the brand and how could I get that in the states?
Last time I inquired (3 yrs ago ) they had discontinued making them… but you can try at “the little brass box company” 👍😎
The different colors of tape have different strength adhesives. I love the purple “Delicate Surface” tape but I always warm the tape as I peel it, regardless.
Chris this is really amazing 😉 thanks for sharing
Thanks so much Tom,...I appreciate you!
Thanks Chris! What is the brush with the long point that you used at the end? Looks wonderful!
Yes, that is a great brush! It’s a #8 needle point brush,...Alvarocastagnet.net has them! 😎👍🏻
I saw the same idea at umberto rosini
Yeah, he uses similar technique. I like Chris ' teaching method better tho.
Where can I purchase a needle pointed watercolor brush that you use.
Hi Mary, search for alvarocastagnet.net on a internet search, I use # 8 most often and also # 6 needle point.
Lovely 😊
I’m trying to build my new palette with less colors
Can you please let me know the colors you have in your palette 🎨
Thanks a lot
Hi Constanza, type in TH-cam WATERCOLOR IN 5- I have four or five videos on all my colors and palettes! Nice to chat with you!
What is the paint set you are using. Would like to purchase one.
Hi Trish, I purchased that at “ the little brass box company” online. Hopefully they still have them, however they probably have pallets very similar. 👍😎
Thank you for the tutorial. What weight paper do you use?
Very welcome Myrna, I use 140lb 300gm Arches Rough, sometimes Arches Satin paper with everything else staying the same. Happy Painting :0)
A beautiful gift love the abstract flowers a joy to see how you paint this
Also thank you for the clear explanation and advice by the way did you panit on a dry paper ?
Take care and stay healthy
Hi Marianne, thanks so much... glad you are with us! Yes,... I mostly work on dry paper... on this painting it’s no different. Hope your art is going really well! 🤠
Hello Chris, is the water color table your’re painting on flat or slightly tilted? Very nice impressionistic work.
Slightly tilted, for TH-cam videos,... but I usually paint with an Easle normally with almost vertical surface about 160- 170 degrees if reference point is the floor at 0 degrees.

Hi mountainsun; I guess he is using Scotch tape.
I have read that if you use regular painters tape and stick it on and off your jeans or some kind of clothing a few times it will still work nicely for holding down your paper but it’s not so apt to damage or tear your painting.
That was lovely Chris. BTW, I really like your opener with the painting of the clock tower. Do you have a favourite paper size when working outdooors?
Thanks so much Nancy, I appreciate the kind comments! I would say 10x14 Arches gummed block is what I usually use when on location/ en plein air.
What palette are you using to mix your colors? Mine is plastic and the colors don’t spread out like yours do!
Hi Jeanne, I always use a metal paint palette and use paper towels to clean versus tissues as they leave oil deposits on palette,.... then water and paint coagulate on the surface... Chris Petri Thank you!!
Thank you for the painters tape information. I have just ruined a card I have done because of using the wrong tape.
Your welcome Anne, tape can be really cause problems with WC paper 👍😎
Hello chris! I have a one question. Which brushes do you use?
Hi Sidar, I use Raphael #8 sable round, and a needle point brush from Alvaro Castagnet's website.
I am a beginner to watercolor. Would you paint a picture of simple boat?
Hi Dana, checkout my TH-cam Channel archives, I have five or six simple boat tutorials there that are wonderful for you. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe! :0)
How do you protect the surface of the card from moisture?
Hi, Hobby shops have waterproofing spray and liquid applied type coatings as well. 👍😎
@@cpetri766 Thanks for the quick reply and great ideas.
