Thank you! I chuckle when you “say the same things over and over” because I really need to hear them over and over! I love your style and I’m learning a lot from you!
Lol, I can’t help it sometimes but I always think it’s better to hear things over and over, similar to a fav song that we know all the lyrics and melodies to. 👍😎
I really appreciate how you repeat important tips and ideas often across your videos. They are really helping me in developing real understanding of key concepts and making them part of my long term memory! I’m really so happy about that! Thank you so so much again Chris! ☺️🙏❤️
Your very welcome amyc, I really enjoy being here on TH-cam 👍😎
Hi Chris, love doing these tutorials along with you. It's so relaxing and I've learned so much. Thank you again.
Thanks Linda, I’m really happy to be here with you painting and lots more tutorials on the way! Hope your progress continues abundantly! 👍😎
Hooray!!!! Trees I am finally happy with. Okay, to be honest I was almost happy with the first one but the other two, YES!!! VICTORY is mine!!!! Best POINTER: Do the pre-mixing of your palette having that ready on the mark is easy. Also, if a bit more color needs to be added, it's easy to do. Thanks for the pointers, oh and for making it fun too.
👍😎
Love these. Especially the last one.
bravissimo.. grazie
Thank you! So helpful and fun!
Thanks so much! 😊👍
Definitely a different & new approach for me to Trees. I try to keep pace with you & that has helped SO much in keeping it all loose & not over thought or over done. (*I do have to watch entire video first so I can know the colors & pre-mix them. Then I start video over again so I can keep up. Have yet to "master" Mixing - you make it look so easy ...) Thank you for these great Tutorials.
Your very welcome Dharma, thanks for watching and painting along... you have a great attitude! Happy Painting! :0)
Another video I find myself coming back to, Chris. Thank you! At 30:29 - 30:30, what are we missing? Just a gentle wash grey in the sky and a slight blend of some of the trees and a little bit of green and splatter on the foreground?
Yes, I agree! 👍😎
Would LOVE to see trees with snow!! Christmas trees!
Hi Patty, just use the first tree painting as a guide,... make the tree a bit darker with adding French ultra marine blue and a touch of burnt sienna to the sap green. For the foreground use yellow ochre for that dried golden field look instead of the bright green, and then use titanium white with a tiny bit of water to add speckles of white paint for snow using the spattering technique. Check out my video on splashing and spattering on TH-cam! :0) Happy painting and the Christmas season be yours! Let me know if this helps ok?
Another great lesson Chris! You are a very kind teacher and want painting to be fun....not so formidable. Thanks!
Hi Dixie, your very welcome and I appreciate your kindness! Keep up the good work!
Very nice. Please, more simple trees for beginners :-).
Hello Izabella, stay tuned ….we will work on more trees in the near future! Thanks for watching and keep up the good work. :0)
Yes he's a great instructor ;keeps it simple and easy to comprehend. I actually thought he was an actual Art Teacher out of a School when I first started watching theses videos.
I love these trees, very good ideas. Thanks Chris.
Thanks Sandy! Happy Painting and thanks for watching :0)
Really enjoyed this and needed this, and I will continue to practice. Did not succeed well with the last tree(s), mine is just a big blob lol. I especially appreciate the opportunity to concentrate on Subjects that are giving me trouble such as trees.
Welcome Barb, you will make it happen 👍😎
Thank you very much for this great video. Greetings from Germany!

This gives me permission to just play! Your practices become lovely works of art. So informative for newbies like me! Thank you so much for this video!!!!
Hello Ginger, your very welcome and thanks for watching! Keep the pedal to the metal! More new videos are on the way! Happy Painting! :0)
So helpful thank you... Trees are wonderful. I like that you teach us drawing skills and guide us on the colors. Your fall into winter trees are lovely. You have great restraint and don't overdo your paintings
Your welcome Deborah, and thanks for the encouragement! I'm glad that you are learning some new ideas and techniques here! Keep up the great work, and I can tell you really know the watercolor medium! :0)
@@cpetri766 Actually, I started out in Acrylics (I still paint in Acrylic from time to time), so there's still lots to learn. I just find water colors easier to use in some ways, but still they can be hard too sometimes. I like the look of light and transparency of them and the flow of water and color. However, maybe only 1 out of 10 of my paintings is good enough to show others. I have gotten better with The help of Instructors like yourself and practice. .LOL
Wow! How amazing thank you so very much . I just woke up and I got my paints out already!!!!
Great work Yvonne, keep that momentum going! :0)
@@cpetri766 my trees didnt turn out as good as yours but i enjoyed doing them and will try again.Thank you!
Great idea Chris to do an individual themed video. Maybe more on the horizon?
Hi Brian, thanks my friend! Yes, certainly a great idea to create more videos like this one! I will do them more often!
Wonderful, thank you 😊
Thanks Judith, I appreciate it! :0)

I’m so glad that you did a tutorial on trees. I’ve been watching everyone I can find because I feel my trees are just not right. I will try your method and see how it works out for me. Thank you.
Your welcome Paula, and great work,... sometimes just practicing on one thing really helps! :0)
Hi Chris l am going to try the tree but l have other paint is that ok thanks Malcolm
Yes, use what you have my friend, it’s all good! 👍😎
Love this - I'm going to practice this today. Could you also tell me what colors and brand of paint you have in your pallet? Love the small size of your box - great travel size
Hi Glo, thanks for watching and your kind words! Sure, my paints are 90% Windsor & Newton and Holbien Watercolor Co. Sometimes while traveling I will pick up other brands when I run out to hold me over. Keep up the good work and Happy Painting to you! :0)
HOw do you get the paint off your fingers/hand when you do the finger painting?
Omg you are Awesome !!! Good job .... I’m guessing that you are selling your art work and if you not doing it ... i should
Hi Roxy, thanks for your kind words and compliments! Thanks for watching and I do sell my art work locally at Gallery's and also online at ChrisPetri.com. Some paintings on my website are copies of others work so not all of them are for sale. I do commission work as well. Happy Painting! :0)
I always have trouble painting trees... they always look so odd and flat.. until I glaze in some shadow, then it stop looking flat but instead it'll turn very cartoony...
I agree Calvin, trees seem to be a challenge for us watercolor artists,.... I think oil and acrylic painter have challenges with them too! :0) Keep the momentum going my friend! Thanks for watching.
Hey Chris, What brand is the needle point brush? Where can I find one? Thank you!
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for watching! I buy my needle point brushes at alvarocastagnet.net. I use mainly the #8 and also at times # 6 and # 10. Happy Painting!
Never sure why you always do you Sky & backgrounds last?
For myself it's asier to make the sky more or less exciting or dynamic after the main subject matter is complete. I like a diminished looking sky most often.
