Totally agree. The wire order was an oversight while filming but we have fixed it since. As for the nuts, they will have to last until we get back to civilisation where we can by replacements. For now we will have to work with what was shipped in that little care package. 😊
Dolphin cam…. I reckon this idea will work, and will get you the best dolphin shots of any TH-cam channel. Instead of a stick try some short line from the centre of a light-line bow bridle. It will drag between bows under tramp attached to a twin torpedo shape with camera on a spar between torpedo bulbs. Fins on bulbs dive like a lure does. Will take a bit of work and experiment but you guys can do it! :) Perfect the shape and you have a business. :) Thanks for sharing your voyage and experiences.
Tony! Good to hear from you mate. Yeah, we will get there with the dolphins cam but I like the sound of this torpedo bridle setup. Perhaps we can get the 3d printer involved and see what we come up with. Just hope we don’t lose the camera in the testing process. It’s a long way to the bottom! 😂
@@RedSeas hehe…. maybe try it with a dummy cam first. :) But yeah, it should be possible to make a trolling lure type platform for the camera that rides level between the hulls looking forward. I’ve suggested it to folk before but no one has tried it that I know of. Maybe they weren’t loopy enough or didn’t have the printing skills. But you could also make it out of balsa with lead weights and epoxy coating…. to get the strength. I’d even consider just getting a couple of really big trolling lures and joining them with a kids 12 inch ruler. Strengthen it with glass and epoxy and fix a camera mount on the ruler. Probably the longer the torpedo shapes are the more stable it will be. Doesn’t have to be two bulbs either…. could make one big single torpedo with camera mount on top. Honestly I do think you’d get great vid from such a thingy but the initial trials will be rolling and diving until you nail the fin and weight settings. I think the catamaran diver setup is likely to be less rolly because you could have each pulled from the front (without a tail on the “bridle”). Anyway, if the sea gods ever let you get a straight run without dying motors, batteries and suchlike…. it might be a fun project. 👍🏼

Hi. I am just in the process of doing my marine boat and PWC licence and I just did the section on avoidance. So when you were saying about the other boat passing you on your starboard and you were confused. They were correct. According to my coarse work the rule is if they are passing they can pass on either side but the onus is on them to avoid you. I am really enjoying your videos and loving that you have the same boat the wynns use to have.
You’re bang on the money. Over taking on any side and the golden rule of “just don’t hit anything” we’re in play here. It was just funny how he kept changing course to track us for a while and then slowed down when he came along side without any obvious reason. Still, it’s those silent conversations that are so entertaining when we are out there. Good luck with your course work. Hope you are enjoying it and keeping your eyes on the reward. Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and for (hopefully) sharing this video. We are closing in on a huge goal for us of 10k subscribers and getting really close now.

It really is. We were pretty surprised to see that on the tags….assuming it’s true. Still, indioko is the hardest working member of the crew so we don’t mind looking after her
Wow a battery that worked since 2009. Wild! Most automotive batteries last roughly 3 to 5 years. I haven't seen any lead acid battery last past 6 or 7 except for mine. I have a lead acid battery going on 7 or so now. I hooked a $10 solar charge controller up to my lithium battery bank as the "solar" source, and the lead acid bank as the charged battery. So in essence there is a float voltage on my lead acid batteries coming from my lithium batteries 24/7 or whenever there is enough of a charge coming in from solar or the lithium bank isn't depleted below where it will charge the lead acid. If I grind on the lead acid trying to start the motor, then the solar will charge my lead acid as well. Though the real thing is the battery bank is always topped up day or night. The float voltage isn't a lot maybe a quarter of a percent or less everyday from the lithium bank. The thing that kills the starter batteries is letting them lose capacity and having them sit at reduced capacity. It makes them go bad. All you need is a set of wires that leads from your house batteries to your starter batteries to pick up a point to hook in an ultra cheap solar controller and a fuse or two. Then you never have to worry about that starter battery after sitting for a month at an anchorage.
Nice one! Yeah that’s actually very similar to what we have done. We used a dc to dc charge controllers to act as a block between our alternators and the lithium. The starter battery is directly connected to the alternator. So when the house is charged enough, the dc to dc opens and begins topping up the starter. Every time we start the engine, the alternator kicks in and charged the starter too. It’s been working quite well but some day we would love to shake things up with an externally regulated alternator setup.
@@RedSeas Yeah the external regulated alternator is the way to go. What I am suggesting maintains your starter battery it doesn't charge the house bank. What you need to do is hook a solar charge controller in where the dc to dc setup is to send battery power from the house bank to the starter. It will work in line with the DC-DC charger seamlessly. Just use the terminals directly on the DC-DC charger. On the DC-DC charger hook the solar controller solar input to the DC-DC output and the solar controller output to the DC-DC controller input. I know it sounds crazy but it works and you'll never have to touch it again unless it corrodes or fails in the distant future. Trust me it means you won't be left in a seriously dangerous position...or at least an annoying one. If the alternator comes on then no voltage flows back from the house bank because the voltage on the starter battery would be too high to charge from the lithium bank and the solar controller would see the voltage spike. Trust me I've been running like that for like five years. Oh I just went back in my records and found out my starter batteries are 9 or 10 years old not 7 and normal duty cheapos not deep cycle.. When the DC-DC shuts down then likely the starter battery will be full, but hours or days later the solar controller starts maintaining the starter battery. It is especially useful if there are some small loads on the starter battery that slowly drain it, because lead acid starter batteries lose 1 or 2 percent of their capacity daily sometimes just sitting on a shelf. So after a week the starter battery could be somewhere around 85 percent even without anything taking power from it. You just need: two fuse holders, like 20 inches of red and blue wire, some terminal connectors to attach to the controller, fuse holders, and solar controller, and some 5 amp or whatever capacity your controller can put out fuses. I chose a 5 amp controller because it is likely the safest and cheapest. Total cost in America would be around 25 dollars. Your battery was far outside the norm for lasting that long without help.
Great vlog ,your diesel problem is a royal pain in the erse, been through similar and ended up cutting inspections in the tank to allow access to totally clean out. I’m sure you guys know what way it’s headed, the amount of sailors I know that now have automated polishing systems is telling of a new problem in town called bio diesel.
Spoken like a true expert. Totally agree bio diesel is a lovely concept but the idea of fuel that will go out of date and suffers from bacterial growth is a pain for off grid cruisers like us. We are going to have to work out a medium term polishing solution but really not looking forward to cutting inspection ports (if only because we need to move the fuel around and then manage the clean up to avoid aluminium shards in our filters!)
We are actually working on that. Our patreon chat last week had a few people asking if we had one so we have made a start on it but will try and get it done so everyone can enjoy some tunes to match their adventure.
More than likely the cargo ship saw you on their radar, but not their AIS. So they got even with you and slowed down to conserve fuel. This way in case you moved sporadically they can avoid a collision but they stayed close enough to keep you on their radar.
Possible for sure. We had them on ais but happy with anyone taking sensible moves to avoid danger. Their turning to match our course was a bit odd at times but still, all happy in the end
